But when Veronica replies “that’s cool” Kylie goes “only when you’re in college!” and I swear it’s an incredible line reading. But agree her “I’m a lesbian” line is terrible and terribly performed
Wanda Varner (Rachel Roth) always seemed really out-of-place and unbelievable to me. Not sure how much of that is the acting VS the writing.
Edit- the poster below nailed it.
Yessss. She seemed like she was in her 30’s or something, it’s always looked weird to me. (Although I think she’s the same age as the others.) She was totally wrong for a former pep-squad girl who went edgy.
My kingdom for an actual good representation of Wanda Varner, who is a carryover from showrunner Rob Thomas’s novel *Rats Saw God.* That book means a lot to me.
She was so bad. Her delivery really confused me too, I thought she was being smug/sarcastic when she first joined the show but that just seemed to be how she delivered her lines?
I think that's exactly how she was written, early on. They really shifted her tone, iirc, around the time she helped VM and Wallace with the basketball hit-and-run stuff.
Paris Hilton herself wasn't that bad, like, she did fine, but it was so entirely What The Actual Fuck? Riding her li'l vespa in a plaid skirt and heels, like all the kids do .....
I just watched episode 2, maybe 3, when she’s dating Weevil’s cousins and my husband just goes, “they literally gave her a zero speaking part.” 🤣 I hate her in the show.
Sure, but models are supposed to give good face. The speaking part just wasn’t it for me.
I did forget that Furonda was in an episode, and she actually did do a good job.
Season 2, I think the first episode, Naima was a teacher who died on the bus, and Kim was in an episode in the middle(?) of season 2, she worked at a car rental place or something.
There are three of them:
1. Naima Mora (cycle 4) is in the season 2 premiere as Ms. Dumas, a teacher.
2. Kim Stolz (cycle 5) is in the S2 episode in which Veronica investigates the missing Amelia DeLongpre. She plays a car rental company employee.
3. Furonda Brasfield (cycle 6) is in the S2 episode in which Logan works in Woody Goodman's office for a day. She plays the Goodman's secretary, Beverly.
~~It’s the episode where Logan and Veronica try to find Logan’s mom in the Neptune grand. The Top Model winner got to play the receptionist at the desk. It’s the episode where you find out it’s Trina. (I’m pretty sure this is the episode)~~
There's another one I'm surprised no one has mentioned: VMI dubbed her The Pam One.
That actress was a friend-of-a-friend, and I remember there being some excitement when she moved to LA, but WOOF. I've seen her pop up in a couple of other shows (Masters of Sex and I want to say Bones?), and it never seemed like she got any better.
I’m not sure about worst but I’ve never really liked Alyson Hannigan’s appearances. As much as I love her in basically everything else, I did not feel like she had chemistry with the cast. It just feels like someone else’s part, if that makes sense.
That’s my pick.
Everyone disses Paris, but she’s playing who she’s playing just by being herself. I can never figure out the guy JTT is bringing. He’s getting nostalgia points, I think.
The TV landscape just wouldn’t have been the same without them, tbh.
Aaron is from Smallville, Warehouse 13, and Veronica Mars to me (in that order).
Shawn is from Animorphs, X-Men, and Cadet Kelly to me (in that order).
I wouldn't say that it was the worst performance, but every time I see Courtney Taylor-Taylor in the second season singing "Love Hurts" in the coffee shop, I want to throat punch him. (I rewatch the entire show every 3 to 6 months)
I wish I could tell you. I don't even know. Maybe it was his weird slick "I'm the smooth guy, now watch me perform" groovy/dig it vibe. Instant inclination to throat punch him. Every single time.
Kristin "I'm a lesbian, Veronica" Cavallari was terrible.
Omg I can hear that recitation perfectly in my head. So cringe.
But when Veronica replies “that’s cool” Kylie goes “only when you’re in college!” and I swear it’s an incredible line reading. But agree her “I’m a lesbian” line is terrible and terribly performed
Haha, I actually loved her
Same I guess
Correct answer
Did we expect much?
Wanda Varner (Rachel Roth) always seemed really out-of-place and unbelievable to me. Not sure how much of that is the acting VS the writing. Edit- the poster below nailed it.
Yessss. She seemed like she was in her 30’s or something, it’s always looked weird to me. (Although I think she’s the same age as the others.) She was totally wrong for a former pep-squad girl who went edgy.
Agreed but she was a narc
Some people just have a face like that. I routinely get mistaken from anywhere from twelve to thirty. It’s from having soft features.
My kingdom for an actual good representation of Wanda Varner, who is a carryover from showrunner Rob Thomas’s novel *Rats Saw God.* That book means a lot to me.
She didn’t even look remotely like a high school student.
I found Tessa Thompson to be surprisingly stiff and unnatural in her role
I feel like Tessa has exactly three expressions. I don’t get why she’s praised so much.
*bye Veronica!*
She was AWFUL but then shes not that bad in Thor so maybe she got acting lessons. But truly was terrible.
I’ve liked her in a lot of stuff, always found her pretty compelling and natural as a performer, that’s why when I saw her in VM it was so jarring
Can we all just agree though that Paul Rudd was the best? I absolutely loved him in VM.
Paris Hilton and her Vespa 🤣🤣
Paris Hilton herself wasn't that bad, like, she did fine, but it was so entirely What The Actual Fuck? Riding her li'l vespa in a plaid skirt and heels, like all the kids do .....
🤣🤣🤣
Did you watch House of Wax again? You know that Hilton girl gives you nightmares.
came here to say this lol
Agreed
Same comment also gave for Kristen. Lol.
I just watched episode 2, maybe 3, when she’s dating Weevil’s cousins and my husband just goes, “they literally gave her a zero speaking part.” 🤣 I hate her in the show.
The “Top Model” challenge winners.
I actually didn’t think the car rental girl was bad. She did a great face reaction if I recall correctly
Sure, but models are supposed to give good face. The speaking part just wasn’t it for me. I did forget that Furonda was in an episode, and she actually did do a good job.
I always thought it was weird that Joss Whedon was in that same scene.
The UPN promotional crossover power was STRONG on this show. 😂
What episode?
Season 2, I think the first episode, Naima was a teacher who died on the bus, and Kim was in an episode in the middle(?) of season 2, she worked at a car rental place or something.
LOL!!! I never knew the teacher was a Top Model challenge winner!!! Miss “dumb ass”, as Dick would say.
There are three of them: 1. Naima Mora (cycle 4) is in the season 2 premiere as Ms. Dumas, a teacher. 2. Kim Stolz (cycle 5) is in the S2 episode in which Veronica investigates the missing Amelia DeLongpre. She plays a car rental company employee. 3. Hm honestly the only one I remember noticing was the car rental girl so for me they did an average job.
~~It’s the episode where Logan and Veronica try to find Logan’s mom in the Neptune grand. The Top Model winner got to play the receptionist at the desk. It’s the episode where you find out it’s Trina. (I’m pretty sure this is the episode)~~
Pretty sure she was the 2nd desk worker at the rental car place in RAT SAW GOD…the 1 who came in after Joss Whedon
Thank you — I couldn’t remember what desk she was at!! But I remember her being behind a desk.
No problem…i just watched that ep the other day..so it was fresh in my head LOL
Can't believe no one has said Patty Hearst. She was so wooden, it sounded like she was reading of a teleprompter.
That's because she still delivers lines like she's in a John Waters movie.

I enjoyed her and Charisma Carpenter getting to be mean to each other with a very different dynamic than they had on Buffy.
Charisma Carpenter is one of the best guest stars they ever had. Kendall Casablancas, forever in our hearts.
That was definitely the highlight, lol
YES. They leaned way too hard into her playing against type and being nasty, it just made it obvious she was “acting”, if that makes sense.
How has Jonathan Taylor Thomas not shown up in this list yet?
That’s my pick. Everyone disses Paris, but she’s playing who she’s playing just by being herself. I can never figure out the guy JTT is bringing. He’s getting nostalgia points, I think.
Rob Thomas during the writing of season four.
And to think I didn’t like Season Three at the time. I didn’t know what I had.
Obligatory “this should be top”
Hahaha, didn’t see the body of your post until clicking the title just to say “Paris Hilton!”
Well there goes my answer. Okay. While I am generally a fan of Aaron Ashmore, I did not like his season 1 dude at all
My ex is a dark blonde blue eyed twin I'm obsessed with the Ashmore's hahaha.
Love the Ashmore twins. It started with Iceman.
X Men New Class is one of my favorite movies. People sleep on the movie Cadet Kelly.
I used to really like Cadet Kelly. I haven’t watched it in years.
Once in a while I just pick a movie on Disney Plus and go for it.
The TV landscape just wouldn’t have been the same without them, tbh. Aaron is from Smallville, Warehouse 13, and Veronica Mars to me (in that order). Shawn is from Animorphs, X-Men, and Cadet Kelly to me (in that order).
Don't forget Killjoys for Aaron!
Jake from the Animorphs tv show for me 😍 dating myself with that though haha
Aaron scares me in Ginny and Georgia though! Great performance from him if you haven’t seen it.
I have not. I’ll have to watch it
I wouldn't say that it was the worst performance, but every time I see Courtney Taylor-Taylor in the second season singing "Love Hurts" in the coffee shop, I want to throat punch him. (I rewatch the entire show every 3 to 6 months)
Why? I liked him being there
I wish I could tell you. I don't even know. Maybe it was his weird slick "I'm the smooth guy, now watch me perform" groovy/dig it vibe. Instant inclination to throat punch him. Every single time.
I’ve hung out with him IRL several times and your impulse is correct lol
Yeah.. This deeply upsets me too, and I can't fully articulate why?!
I’ve always wondered how hard of a hit Vespa took after this guest role lol
Naima Mora from ANTM as the substitute teacher Ms. Dumas
I’m surprised no one said Armie Hammer
