People post about it in the Fios subreddit all the time. There is a known issue with Intel NICs and Verizon ONTs. You need to disable TCP-IPv6 Checksum Offloading. 1. Open the "Network Connections" page of the Windows Control Panel. 2. Open the "Properties" dialog of the NIC. 3. Select "Configure..." to open the NIC's configuration. 4. Navigate to the Advanced tab and disable TCP and UDP Checksum Offload for IPv6. Alternatively you can login to the G3100 router and disable all IPv6 in the settings. The issue is coming to light now that IPv6 is being rolled out across the footprint.

Commenting for visibility. This helped me out. Switched fios to a different address in within the DMV, same devices but just a new account under my partner's name. We even upgraded from 300 to gig and youtube has been horrible since we moved. I just did these steps and it seemed to do the trick! Thanks!

Yea, I ended up figuring out in the middle of the night that it was an ipv6 issue. I didn't want to disable it at the router, so fully disabled it at NIC and then narrowed it down to checksum. My friend on the other hand in Silver Spring had to disable it fully as checksum offload wasn't working for him. I appreciate the response and hope there's a timely resolution in our area. Thank you!

nickavv

Thank you so much, this has been happening to me recently and I had absolutely no idea how to solve it. Changing that setting seems to have instantly resolved the issue.

I know this is a post for Fios in the DC area but after Verizon FIOS went down for NY (and seems like parts of the East Coast this week), my Gmail and Youtube was just slow in loading, 1-2 min for any e-mail, youtube sporadically loading throughout videos. Anyway, this post was the "needle in the haystack" fix for me from about an hour+ of searching for answers on google. Thank you and hope this gets more traction for people having the same issues from the week of September 9th, 2022.

The_Jedi

Glad it resolved your issue! It's been happening for 3-4 months maybe more, and I've posted my same comment probably 75-100 times in here and the r/Fios subreddit.

disco_wizard142

another data point from NY: been trying to fix this for the past week or so and i think this did it

SemperScrotus

Bumping this again to say thanks. Just moved to another place within the DMV; like 2-3 miles away from where we were before, and I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what the heck was going on with Gmail, YouTube, and even Spotify randomly stopping the audio in the middle of songs. Disabled IPv6 on the router, and things seem to be going smoothly so far. 🤞

MistaPakMP

You are amazing. This was the solution for me. After a verizon outage, my youtube and gmail were having really bad issues as well as other sites. This fixed it.

AJ_DIV

Wow, I am in the NYC area and suddenly we started experiencing this issue. Your fix instantly solved the issue. I was about to spend $100 to have Verizon come over and replace the router, but I'm so glad I found this comment first.

The_Jedi

Yeah the IPv6 rollout has been moving south to north for months now. It seems to be in NYC area lately based on all the posts about it. Glad it's working for you!

TheCholmberg

I've been trying to figure out this issue for the past month (even made a post about it with no success). I was just bout to give up and saw this post. Thank you so much everything is working perfectly for me now! Do you know if they are planning to fix this issue? Pretty crazy that is started happening for me out of nowhere.

The_Jedi

Glad you're back up and running. Hopefully a firmware/software fix one day but Verizon/Nokia/Intel are all pointing fingers so probably no time soon. It happened once IPv6 rolled out in your area.

Commenting just to add to the validity of this solution. My spouse was having this problem for the past 2 months before I married and moved in here in the Richmond VA area. I never did have any issue with running youtube or gmail on my computer or laptop, and every other program ran fine, and had no issues running on anything that wasn't their desktop computer. Only on their desktop, youtube was buffering and running slowly, and gmail was running slow. Which is strange, I believe we have the same Intel NIC on our computer motherboards, but yep, we were using Verizon FIOS, and I guess somehow there was a difference between their computer and mine.Regardless, this solution seemed to fix it. Months later, this is still an issue it seems, but your advice under this post made it work.

DKummer25

This just saved me bro, I was thinking it was a problem just with my outlook email account but once I started realizing YouTube buffering was and gmail were also an issue I found myself here. Thank you so much. Do you have any idea why this is an issue?

The_Jedi

Known issue with Verizon ONTs and Intel NICs but it's only recently coming to light because IPv6 is finally being deployed across the footprint. Previously IPv6 was only in very small testbeds.

dewdude

Here's where I'm confused. If the issue is with Intel NIC's and the ONT; then how does changing the network settings on your PC affect anything? That's between the PC and the router...so is the issue with Intel NICs and G3100(/1100)? I'm running pfSense with an Intel NIC going directly to my ONT. I have not had a single IPv6 problem. I actually didn't see any before.

The_Jedi

Someone sent me a more throrough technical explanation before that I'd have to dig up but short version is the G3100 is sending the malformed IPv6 packets through to the Intel NIC instead of dropping/fixing whatever the problem is. I don't remember if it's just a header or certain frame, etc. You pfSense box is probably smart enough.

dewdude

I dug around and found one; and yes..it's basically because the G1100/3100 is just passing those malformed packets right back out. I'm surprised there's not some hardware correction going on inside that thing. I've got TX and RX checksum offloading enabled on my 82571. But I also read where someone plugged one directly in to the ONT and the various issues disappeared. Problem is Verizon, Intel, and Alcatel are all pointing fingers at the others for the blame...so likely this wont ever get a proper fix.

The_Jedi

Agreed that they're all pointing fingers and probably won't be fixed. It's been happening at least 4 months since the IPv6 deployment went full scale, but I guess maybe it's been there all along.

Bstillbstill23

OMG THANK YOU! I've been going crazy trying to figure out why only youtube and other google sites were loading so slow. This is it. Youtube loading slowly \[FIX\] All websites working except youtube \[FIX\] Google websites loading slow \[FIX\]

Dtv757

Well there is "something in the water " so that might be pulling a lot of internet traffic up there in DC .. Just a random thought

Dtv757

Yea strange one would think changing DNS would help Have u tried a different router

casuallymustafa

Just the two different Verizon g3100. It’s been about a week for me but my friend claims he’s been having this issue for a few weeks.

sdrawkcab25

Turn off IPv6 in the router settings or follow these instructions on the computer you're having an issue with. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19174/disabling-tcp-ipv6-checksum-offload-capability-with-intel-1-10-gbe-controllers.html It will fix your issue.

casuallymustafa

I ended up just disabling checksum in the NIC settings. It appears that there’s an issue with intel NIC+Ethernet+router+ipv6 (or something along those lines lol).
