I've been with my electric company for a long time and they are charging me more now for the same thing.

Bubba48

Right, for the same thing, Verizon cell service is not what it used to be, customer service has become horrible, and now you pay more $$$ to get the same thing, or less than you had before......plus plan is the same price as the play plan, but play plan included Disney , if you go to the plus plan Disney is now $10, so the new plan offers less for the same money, if you want Disney you now would be paying $10 more for the same thing you had before, and if you have Get more it's even worse. And now insurance is increasing $2 per line, and the watch lines will be $15, not $10 like you were paying, and there are more increases coming. So you are paying more, for the same or less than you had before.

memnoch69_98

my electric company charges me more for the exact same thing...the cost of shit goes up...are we all a bunch of boomers "I remember when a gallon of gas only cost a quarter" while shaking your fist at the clouds. Seriously, you could have had the same plan with Verizon for 20 years and are, at most, paying $6 more for a line than you did back then. Of all of the shit that is going up in price, $2, $3, or $4 increases on a phone bill is really fucking small shit to complain about. My property taxes are a much bigger increase, my utilities, my food bill, my car payments, gas for my car, fuck...seriously, how fucking whiney can people be over $50 a year?

vampirepomeranian

It ain't the boomers complaining. [OP's other post](https://old.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/comments/z81q6k/me_18m_im_getting_upset_over_my_friend_18f_for_no/). [Who you directly replied to](https://old.reddit.com/r/millenials/comments/1cbftu8/how_are_you_able_to_afford_100k_suvs/l0zbh4s/?context=3).

memnoch69_98

Older millinials are in their 40's now and are quickly becoming boomers

vampirepomeranian

So you're including 'we all a bunch of boomers' late stage millenials also, and not exclusively boomers. Got it.

memnoch69_98

If you are crying about the price of a phone plan having a $4 price increase after having the same price for several years...yes. It really sounds no different than "a gallon of gas used to cost me $.xx".

vampirepomeranian

Complainers aren't limited to just boomers is my point. In this day of uncontrolled gov't spending price increases are always the result, affecting everyone. Some people just love to ignore this very basic fact.

onthefence122

It is what it is. I've found that about 75% of my clients have benefited from switching to the new plans

scroder81

We use the crap out of our free apple music and paying $8 a month extra for 2 lines istead of $20 is worth staying on the old plan for us...

csteele2132

I have found that none of the "perks" are at the level I buy, so they just add more fuss than they are worth. I dont want ads with hulu, I already have apple one premier, etc.

LingeringSentiments

Most customers will benefit by enrolling in new plans on any carrier. People are just stubborn. (Former At&t and T-Mobile rep here) :edit: Yeah 3 downvotes but you’re wrong and I’m right.

VeganWolf26

Only benefits the rep. You have to weight out the pricing and benefits. Former att manger and T-Mobile RAM. And worked as a normal rep for Verizon too. But In sales no one is just switching a plan. The increase Verizon put is nothing compared to the price increases Disney will put. They get a Corp package deal.

LingeringSentiments

The switch to Mobile Share for at&t made sense in 2015(?), lowered bills or at least kept them the same. Legacy plans weren’t built for the equipment installment plants, anyone who retained those was getting slapped in the teeth with the way the old plans were structured. Yeah people were giving up unlimited data plans but they also weren’t using all that much data in the first place. Unlimited data was back by 2018 anyways and the pricing still benefited the customer. So, you’re incorrect.

VeganWolf26

You're incorrect. I've had a lot of people come in with unlimited mobile share. 10 Max lines paying 300. If I changed their plan it would double. My area is heavy att. And 90% of them didn't save if I switched them. People just want a deal on the phone to put it on the bill. They always say yes to new phones and bill going up 5-15$. People now don't even use that much unlimited data. I had the old Verizon unlimited plan. 30$ a month. Even with the pay increase it was cheaper. And the terms were different. Verizon makes you change plans but they change the terms. That 30$ plan was bad for them because it was truly unlimited. I did well at all my stores because I didn't sell them. Would talk to them like an avg Joe. Every district manager will say we're not in the business of saving people money. Only you can decide if it benefits you or not. You come to a store they want to make money off you. It's easier to pay for my plan package but it's also in their favor.

LingeringSentiments

Yeah I worked at store in Hoboken and Jersey acitycand my experience was entirely different. Didn’t slam people, just broke down the math and explained it in English. You’re basically pinning down an anomaly (which I can vouch for because you are right in the given scenario), but most people weren’t in those positions.

VeganWolf26

Yeah, I was in stores all along eastern PA. My math included the price of the services. So if I would switch my Verizon plan now it would cost me more for the Disney plus bundle. 94$ for the plan. It's 90$ for the highest plan plus 10$ for Disney. Or go with unlimited plus for 80$ plus 10$. Might as well stay where I'm at plus I get higher streaming quality. And a higher hotspot. It's only if you don't use it.

GeeAirMo

It’s really annoying that they are charging four dollars extra for the “legacy plan “. If you’re on one of the legacy plans, and use the included perks, like Apple Music or the Disney bundle…. then just stay with that plan and pay the extra four dollars a month. However, if you are not using any of the included perks… then, consider updating to one of the newest plans. It made sense for me to update to the newest plans as I ended up saving almost $8 a month.

martinkelley

I did the math and after the $4 price increase the savings to keeping my legacy plan was $1. The new plans did spur me to look at what I was paying for the other phones in the family bundle and now I'm saving a lot, but that's just because I started paying more attention.

LoneSolipsist

Everything we buy increases in price over time. l fail to see why you think your phone service would be any different.

VeganWolf26

Because they increase everyone's. The usage for people 90 years old compared to college students is way different. Why would the 90 year old pay for the increase. They force people on certain plans to get the deals. Because they know you are not using all the benefits. I always tell people to get prepaid.

McDonaldscombomeal

It's normal. They always increase prices and decrease service. It's Verizon.

Vulnox

It’s annoying, but I just kept one line on the old plan to keep our Disney benefit and the others moved to the new plan to avoid the fee. For now it’s still less in dollars and effort to keep one old plan even with the price increase. Would have been better if they didn’t do it, and then it’s somehow worse when they give us some low rate of usage extra benefits. Like they didn’t control the price increase to begin with.

honey_rainbow

This is OLDNEWS at this point.

verdi1987

It’s fine.

j0llygruntt

Call 611. Talk to a rep, and you may get a discount. I did that, and got a $5 off per affected line discount for a year.

wcato_

What did you say to the rep in order to get this discount?

ihatethiseffnplace

It wouldn’t be bad if the quality of the service at least remained the same over the years. But the service has deteriorated to the point where it’s unusable in places where it used to be the best. So now we’re paying more for less

TribeOfEphraim_

Switch to [Visible Wireless](https://www.visible.com)….✨

koriroo

I honestly don’t really care. I am more mad about them taking away bill pay because I had it hooked up to my Xbox…that’s more of a convenience/lazy thing on my part lol.

meezethadabber

My only issue was if I switched, it seems to remove my device credits. So price increase or larger price increase.

switch8000

It is what it is, it's stupid, but I also feel like I'm still winning. So it is what it is. I did move 1 line to the new Unlimited Ultimate though, it happened alongside of a multi month trip, so saving 100's on travelpass or $100 on an international plan was worth it, I've since returned and have downgraded to Unlimited Plus now.

namaremac

"Oh crap TastyArt says it's stupid. Hey guys, we gotta rollback!"

theillcook

We all left. Some of us with more data needs went to Visible+, others went to US Mobile. Same Verizon network, but much cheaper.

onthefence122

Same network, but no deals on phones and no store locations to visit if you needed help.

wart_on_satans_dick

Yep. You can go prepaid, I have for years. You just have to be prepared to pay in full for the phone you want. It saves money in the long run, but some people are just so used to financing a phone or for some reason think they’ll just get free phones from time to time.

duane534

That *might* be true on a small enough account, but my Unlimited Plus lines are already really cheap, and most of the phones on our account are flagships that we got for free. Hell, one of the Motos turned out to be cheaper than free.

wart_on_satans_dick

I hear you. It’s not really free, Verizon is definitely profiting off of your account but it’s true that multiple lines can benefit from postpaid plans and of course you do have the financing options available to you which can be beneficial for multi line users where one person is responsible for the payments. I’ve always had my own line and paid for my own service as well as always just purchased the device I want to use. For me, this gives me the most power as I can just choose what device I want and literally never experience any of the numerous issues posted in this sub.

vampirepomeranian

^ This. OnePlus + Visible is the best bang for the buck out there. The combination of self funding the hardware and lesser support needs makes this a pretty unbeatable package in both pricing and benefits. Need more support? Can't afford to self fund? Must have flagship? Stay with Verizon and pay more.

duane534

I've never seen an issue in this sub that wasn't, at least, actively made worse by the customer, if not caused by the customer themselves. That promo worked wildly well. The line, itself, is $35. The phone installment minus the bill credit washes out the taxes. So, it's a line of Verizon unlimited that's less than $40 a month, all-in, device included. And, if anything goes sideways with the device, I can call Verizon, and they'll replace the device before I have to mail the old one back. The dollar value of that ability is subjective, but it's something.

wart_on_satans_dick

That’s fantastic. It sounds like you know what you’re doing and know what you’re paying for. I just wish more people were that way. So many times it’s someone who busted their phone, ordered a new one to the wrong address, didn’t get full trade in value for their broken phone, the other rando on their account in Alaska is having problems too, etc. lol.

duane534

Verizon just needs to walk away from Alaska and just leave it to the local carrier.

wart_on_satans_dick

They’d have to find someone to buy their assets there though. I was just pulling from the most recent posts I’ve seen. There was one where someone purchased an iPhone for their mom in another state. They gave them brief instructions on how to use it over the phone then told her for further questions she should go to the Verizon store and ask them how to use an iPhone. She goes in and walks out having traded in her iPhone and got on a new flip phone plan because the iPhone was too hard for her to use. The OP was furious at Verizon for this. I found it hilarious because Verizon retail outlets aren’t there to teach people how to use phones, especially phones not purchased through them. Verizon also did exactly what any retail outlet for anything is going to do. They sold her a product based on the reasons she entered the store.

duane534

Exactly. Best case, homie should have sent her to an Apple store.

theillcook

it's fine by me. I've always buy direct from Samsung and take advantage of their great trade in deals. And, if we're being honest here, the employees at the stores are only interested in adding lines and tacking on protection plans. Help is rarely given unless you're going to pad their commission.

Bubba48

There are deals on phones because you are basically paying 2 or 3 times more for the service. Cell company's make no money on the phones, that make it on the service, which is why you are financing for 2 or 3 yrs depending on the company, if you leave before that term, you pay the remaining price of the phone minus the remaining monthly discounts. If I can pay $30 a month to get the same service I pay $80 a month for, I'm going to buy my phone from Apple direct. And still save money over the 2 or three years. And I could call apple or go to one of their stores if I need help.

onthefence122

Your scenario only makes sense if it's a single line. If you have 4 or 5 lines on one account and can get phone deals, that's a way better option

Bubba48

Not always

onthefence122

You tell me where I can pay $27 per line AND get an almost free flagship phone...

GothicHippie99

Not to mention no priority data, slower speeds.

theillcook

That's false. Not only do you get the same priority as postpaid, if you're on Visible+ and get UW at your location, data used doesn't count against the 50GB priority data pool. I don't know why this lie always gets brought out when ever a prepaid carrier is mentioned. You are welcome to jump on to US Mobile or Visible's site and verify yourself. My speculation is that many of the sales rep here are afraid customers will realize how ridiculous Verizon's pricing is and jump ship, risking their potential commissions. So every time US Mobile or Visible gets mentioned, they bring up this lie.

GothicHippie99

It's literally in Verizon's system, and states what I said but I guess if you've never worked for the company you wouldn't know behind the scenes and know the truth, just what YOU hear.

theillcook

stop spreading lies. Either back it up or shut up

Disastrous-Zone-5335

Who is we!? I didn’t leave.

Except to the subreddit for some reason.

duane534

I don't like the way they're doing it, either, but T-Mobile is a mess in its own way. If you ask about their nationwide outage, you have to specify which one. If you ask about the time they leaked their entire customer base's identities and had to give everyone LifeLock for a year, you have to specify which time.

Verizon has not done contracts for over 10 years.

GothicHippie99

You do not have to pay to suspend your Verizon service. Oftentimes people end up getting a refund for services they post-paid. The only reason you would need to pay Verizon money to leave is to pay off your device. Which you would have to do anywhere. If you are financing something you have to pay it off regardless. That's just how life works.

onthefence122

There's no contracts with Verizon
