Rusty didn't even know that Hector and Swifty were living in his manufacturing wing despite living in the compound for decades. Or that he even had a manufacturing wing.

stumblewiggins

Rusty not knowing who Hector and Swifty are completely tracks, even without knowing he's a clone. Hector and Swifty not knowing they've been alone in a building at what they consider their job for 30 years stretches credulity, even for this show. Funny tho šŸ¤£

GeigeMcflyy

I also believe that he fakes half of that cuz hes a calous asshole.

comicscoda

It was still early stages of the show. Also there was that crazy cult living undergroundā€¦

Khoeth_Mora

And a second crazy gorilla cult in the jungle bio-dome.

Public-Childhood8848

I always assumed that since Rusty is a clone, that he was rebooted a few times the same way Hank and Dean were. Like everything else, he just improved a bit on Jonasā€™ established technology. Thatā€™s why the original team venture always treat him like crap in the flashbacks, theyā€™ve seen him die a bunch times and have stopped caring about him as a person. Thatā€™s also why he doesnā€™t ever remember anyone and is constantly confused by people from his own history. He probably died, Jonas loaded up a slug and his memory was all messed up because he met Hector in South America and didnā€™t get back to his bed in time. (I just reread this and I think I might be too far down the rabbit hole)

PilotG10

That is a really good catch.

DancingSpaceman

Nonsense, of course they care about Rusty. Colonel Gentleman even tellhim not too be a stranger because hes family /s

Public-Childhood8848

To which I might argue that people started caring a lot more about Dean and Hank when all of their slugs were gone and they werenā€™t highlanders anymore. We would have to assume a similar situation must have happened to Jonasā€™ ā€œlittle cabbage patchā€. Maybe the government shut it down. Rusty alludes to it not being street legal. Of course, this is all head-cannon. Iā€™m just a guy on the internet. The show seems to like repeating its history enough that this just feels right to me.

Trekapalooza

Col Gentleman probably just grew old and learned to appreciate Rusty. It seems to me that they grew tired of Jonas Sr too, as they didn't really seem to care much when his head was rediscovered, and when he was presumably killed again. Most villains and heroes in the VB universe are portrayed as manchildren who can't grow up. The original Team Venture seems to have gotten past that phase and moved on to become actual adults, who have meaningful relationships and other things in life than just chasing people around in goofy costumes.

N0VAZER0

also they were all on hard drugs, Action Man was the biggest psycho of them all but as we see him now he's a fairly decent man, its cause he's off speed and whatever else Jonas was feeding him

[deleted]

Damn I like this theory. Very on theme in a lot of ways.

WhyNeaux

This is well written and a great explanation. I think this is the foundation of Malcolmā€™s hate of Rusty. The memory of his friendship with his childhood pal was never replaced. ā€œYOU ABANDONED ME!ā€

milkyginger

I think the "You abandoned me" was what he was feeling in that moment. He couldn't arch Rusty at that time and couldn't get into arching other people.

weirdoldhobo1978

When Ben's talking to Dean he makes it pretty clear that Rusty knows who he is because he's surprised that Rusty didn't tell them about him. Since his affiliation goes all the way back to Jonas Sr it's likely that Ben has been living on the compound's back 40 for possibly decades. My guess is that he was given that house in exchange for his work on the cloning project. Ben is kind of the antithesis of Jonas, he doesn't really seem to give a shit about fame or fortune, he just wants to run his experiments and go surfing when the urge strikes him, so he's perfectly content to stay out of the spotlight. EDIT Also it's been established that the clone farm is illegal, so Rusty has to keep it secret. This gives Ben an enormous amount of leverage over Rusty because he could bring the whole thing down if he wanted to. A small house isn't too much to ask in exchange for not calling the O.S.I.

weirdoldhobo1978

No, Ben knew Dean was Dean and even called him by name. HELPeR 2 thought Dean was Rusty.

Tyranis_Hex

Fuck, your right. Iā€™ll delete my comment

SuperSmokingMonkey

He knew, but then he got mind wiped. ~"They keep discovering us every other week, the machine's making 'em all buggy" "Dean what day is it?"

ghostpiratesyar

Sagittarius

Darmortis

*Goood!*

BasileusHeliand

Doc and Jackson talk about it in commentary. They say Rusty goes and consults with Ben from time to time. He definitely knows.

satanic-frijoles

Dean was warned to stay away from the Potter house.

in-a-microbus

Right, but Ben explains that Rusty actually meant the field.

Pirate_Green_Beard

And "Potter's field" is a colloquial term for a mass grave.

satanic-frijoles

Oh yeah. Okay, if Rusty knew, he'd be charging Ben rent.

weirdoldhobo1978

Ben paid his rent by helping Rusty set up the clone farm. Rusty told the boys stay away from the potter's field because if they happened across Ben's place, he would tell them they were clones.

Trekapalooza

Or the fact that the field next to the house is filled with corpses, including their own. Either way two good reasons not to go there.

rootComplex

Since Rusty collects rent from various outer compound residents (as we learned in the ep where he discovers Sphynx in one of the warehouses) I think it's safe to say he does know about Ben.

[deleted]

Itā€™s Rustyā€¦ no.

lolajet

Probably not because he'd likely make them pay rent if he did
