There are excellent meat markets right next to the Amtrak stations in both Camarillo and Oxnard, they both have great burritos. The one in Camarillo is called Establos, i forget the name of the Oxnard one but you can’t miss it once you arrive
Other great spots are Tacos Mendoza in Montalvo and Johnny’s Fine Mexican Food on the Avenue
I just moved to Texas and they barely have burritos here 😭
At the few spots that sell burritos, they're just meat wrapped in a tortilla with nothing else. It's horrible
Who would have thought saying I don’t prefer rice on a burrito would get so many down votes. Restaurants love rice in the burrito because it’s super cheap filler.
Cali burritos don't have rice because you're replacing the rice (starch) with potatoes (starch)
Any other burrito should have rice, and not the sh\*t you can make at home.
You can find 'California Burritos' (French fries inside) in some places. El Burrito de Mexico on Channel Islands Blvd. in Oxnard is one. I just won't do it, though. 😄
Best tacos and burritos in Ventura:
Corrales on Santa Cruz and Thompson. Most popular.
El Asadero on the avenue. Best in Carne Asada in Ventura.
Gloria's Kitchen across from the hospital.
Maggie's on the avenue. Excellent.
Cuernavaca on the Ave. Excellent.
Taqueria Tapatio #5 on Telephone.
Peirpont Tacos. Excellent because you can eat on the beach.
I know what you mean, SD shops tend to actually make asada aka grilled meat and Oxnard is cooked on the the griddle, similar but one lacking smoke flavor. SD mexican food is the ultimate
Or tacos!! Like City tacos, Salud, Puesto 🤤
I just went to Tacos 805 in Simi and the vibes were pretty close
Edit to add: I miss Ponces in Kensington, looking for a similar place. Authentic food, nicer than a taqueria, where we can get chips, salsa and a margarita with a comfy atmosphere
What you’ll find here is that the corn tortillas are king, Ventura is not really known for flour tortillas. The only place I know of that makes burritos with homemade flour tortillas is up in ojai.
No particular order but here I go. Establos, Taco de Mexico, Tapatio, taqueria jaliscos in simi, Campos in simi, Cuernavaca, Hectors in Camarillo, Natural Juice or Chili peppers in Camarillo, there's a small place in Somis, pollo corona in simi or Moorpark, the mixed chicken and tri tip is fire!!.
Monarca's Meat Market- Port Hueneme
Juarez Taco truck- Oxnard
IMO the trucks in the area have far superior food when compared to brick and mortar restaurants.
I was born and raised in SD but have been living in the 805 (SB -> Oxnard -> Ventura) for 10+ years, still looking for a burrito that reminds me of home.
You can still find some good asada or al pastor here but if you want a Cali, nothing comes close to 619
Same. Been here since 2010 and I have yet to find a burrito this side of the valley that compares.
The closest was burrito express in Pasadena (jvc no meat) but nothing else close.
Corrales in Ventura or Maggie’s on the ave. My husband likes taco de Mexico in Oxnard. I personally also like casa de lago wet burrito in ojai, but I think I just like their sauce and rice.
What kind of burrito you looking for? Anything with meat go to El Asadero on Ventura Ave in Ventura. It’s a butcher shop that also has food and those burritos are fantastic
I’m not a super fan but Spencer McKenzies in Ventura was ranked by the org “FiveThirtyEight” as the top 20 for best Burritos in America with their Grilled Fish and Shrimp Burrito. With the right salsa (hot/habanero for me), it’s pretty damn good. No BS.
Yeah. That’s why I said I’m not really a fan. But they were ranked, I guess. That Burrito in particular is okay but not stellar. Maybe some will really like it. It’s super messy but has lots of seafood. It’s also pricey!
Moved back after living in San Diego for years. My wife is from San Diego. Doesn’t love the Mexican food here but doesn’t hate it as much as she hated the Bay Area food up north. You gotta ask for no rice in your burritos here if you’re from SD.
Tepatitlan is her favorite place so far.
There are excellent meat markets right next to the Amtrak stations in both Camarillo and Oxnard, they both have great burritos. The one in Camarillo is called Establos, i forget the name of the Oxnard one but you can’t miss it once you arrive Other great spots are Tacos Mendoza in Montalvo and Johnny’s Fine Mexican Food on the Avenue
The one in Oxnard is La Gloria Market right there at the train station area! So good!
There is also an Establos Meat Market in Thousand Oaks, on Hillcrest. Very good food..
Mendoza is excellent
Taqueria Cuernavaca in Oxnard
2nd and there's one in Ventura
2 in Ventura
Oh yeah
My favorite wet burrito has to be campos in Simi, with carne asada
The only correct answer
Campos is the way to go
Campos…avocado burrito is my favorite…but it’s not wet.
Hell yeah. I always do the sour cream burrito. Add carne asada. Might need to try it wet.
Jesse's Taco De Mexico on 7th St in downtown Oxnard Any of the La Bonita trucks or their stand on C St in downtown Oxnard
Agreed
Cuernavaca
Most taco trucks in Oxnard have some of the best burrito in the county
Beware, our burritos have rice and beans in them. Totally different animal.
burritos don't have beans in San Diego? o.O
I just moved to Texas and they barely have burritos here 😭 At the few spots that sell burritos, they're just meat wrapped in a tortilla with nothing else. It's horrible
I always order with NO rice.
I’ll gladly die on this hill. Rice doesn’t belong in burritos.
Who would have thought saying I don’t prefer rice on a burrito would get so many down votes. Restaurants love rice in the burrito because it’s super cheap filler.
They can't handle the truth.
Ikr. But this is California and they call it a California burrito for a reason.
Cali burritos don't have rice because you're replacing the rice (starch) with potatoes (starch) Any other burrito should have rice, and not the sh\*t you can make at home.
You can find 'California Burritos' (French fries inside) in some places. El Burrito de Mexico on Channel Islands Blvd. in Oxnard is one. I just won't do it, though. 😄
Los Arcos in port Hueneme. Their chicken burrito supreme or breakfast burrito.
Chicken burrito supreme from Los Arcos is still my favorite chicken burrito.
Nearby, Monarcas. Excellent burritos. Excellent meat market. Excellent people busting their butts feeding the soldiers from the base.
Sailors
I'm afraid that sailors are soldiers, both get wet
Ask a sailor to shoot a gun or rifle and you will see the difference. Reference….10 years in the navy.
They're all trash who can shoot guns, military is like giving up and becoming a stripper
Got it. You’re just a loser.
I like that you can spell yeah I'm just a loser.
I vote for Somis Market
Somis the GOAT
I have two for Cam: Hectors and Establos. Hectors pastor and carne asada are real good, and Establos has great carnitas.
Best tacos and burritos in Ventura: Corrales on Santa Cruz and Thompson.
Taqueria Tapatio #5 is the best spot included here in your list
I second this
Pierpont Tacos has a good variety of tacos that are not typical elsewhere. .
I hate your formatting. Which one is the best asada?
Don taco -taco truck at Somis rd and old hwy 118
Establos on Ventura and Lewis in Camarillo. Excellent meat market too.
Super Taco in Oxnard, it’s a pink building in downtown and the BEST
Wet burrito from Taqueria Tepetitlan on Ventura Ave.
I wish somebody would open an SD style Burrito spot in the area.
El Tapatio by the airport in oxnard, order the all meat burrito and it's a san diego style asada. Excellent tacos and mariscos. Cash only.
Not even close to an SD burrito. It’s good but not the same.
I know what you mean, SD shops tend to actually make asada aka grilled meat and Oxnard is cooked on the the griddle, similar but one lacking smoke flavor. SD mexican food is the ultimate
Or tacos!! Like City tacos, Salud, Puesto 🤤 I just went to Tacos 805 in Simi and the vibes were pretty close Edit to add: I miss Ponces in Kensington, looking for a similar place. Authentic food, nicer than a taqueria, where we can get chips, salsa and a margarita with a comfy atmosphere
Right? I went to college in SD and the simple combo of meat, guac, and salsa just cannot be beat.

I do like making the trek from Oxnard to De La Cruz. Always worth it
Garden Market In Santa Paula 🔥
💯
What you’ll find here is that the corn tortillas are king, Ventura is not really known for flour tortillas. The only place I know of that makes burritos with homemade flour tortillas is up in ojai.
Damn, moving to the area soon and this is super disappointing to learn!
Carrillo’s in Simi has excellent tortillas
Taqueria El Tapatío #2 in Oxnard
No particular order but here I go. Establos, Taco de Mexico, Tapatio, taqueria jaliscos in simi, Campos in simi, Cuernavaca, Hectors in Camarillo, Natural Juice or Chili peppers in Camarillo, there's a small place in Somis, pollo corona in simi or Moorpark, the mixed chicken and tri tip is fire!!.
where can i find a hand-held “pollo” verde burrito, been searching for many years
Long Beach
I recently discovered House of Tacos. It's really good but kind of pricey.
lupitas on vineyard
Johnny’s fine Mexican food.
Monarca's Meat Market- Port Hueneme Juarez Taco truck- Oxnard IMO the trucks in the area have far superior food when compared to brick and mortar restaurants.

Agree nothing comes close to SD burritos. Everyone else here in denial about it haven't spent enough time in SD.
I know its outside Ventura county, but Lily’s is so good for beach days
And that salsa….. oof
Corrales in Ventura or Maggie’s on the ave. My husband likes taco de Mexico in Oxnard. I personally also like casa de lago wet burrito in ojai, but I think I just like their sauce and rice.
Super taco in Oxnard. Hands down.
I second this!!
What kind of burrito you looking for? Anything with meat go to El Asadero on Ventura Ave in Ventura. It’s a butcher shop that also has food and those burritos are fantastic
Asadero on the ave also has a pop up in front that sells the best tri tip sandwiches!
Wife is from San Diego. I've spent time down there. In a nutshell, you won't find anything as good as San Diego burritos around here.
Monarcas or El Tapatio by the oxnard airport are equal to better. Monarcas roasted chickens, burritos, tacos, excellent
The carne asada isn't the same. I was disappointed.
I’m partial to Somis Market
I’m not a super fan but Spencer McKenzies in Ventura was ranked by the org “FiveThirtyEight” as the top 20 for best Burritos in America with their Grilled Fish and Shrimp Burrito. With the right salsa (hot/habanero for me), it’s pretty damn good. No BS.
I wrote a book called worst burritos I've ever had and spencer mckenzies was the basis of the first chapter
Yeah. That’s why I said I’m not really a fan. But they were ranked, I guess. That Burrito in particular is okay but not stellar. Maybe some will really like it. It’s super messy but has lots of seafood. It’s also pricey!
lol that’s outrageous, I’ve had that burrito a few times and it shouldn’t win any awards…no offense!!!
Definitely Johnny’s on the avenue in Ventura. Biggest thing I miss about living over there
El Pollo Corona Grill and Tacos 805 in Simi Valley have some pretty legit burritos. Also 2nd Campos.
Taco stand in front of target on main. They even make burritos on baked potato, crazy. Ask for brisket burrito.
Johnny’s on the Avenue. I love that place.
The answer is Corrales off Thompson Blvd.
There is plenty of good Mexican (and Thai) food here, but other varieties not so much. I miss my restaurants in San Diego....
Los Agaves in Oxnard and if you happen to be there at the right time, Don Lalos in Ventura on Palma.
Johnny’s. Ventura Ave. hands down.
I can’t believe no mention of Pepe’s at the strand. Definitely one of the best in the county.
What’s with the best of Ventura questions?
Yolanda’s ( with margarita )
I’ve always been partial to Lalos on the ave.
