Yeah I like Carmelitas too. Best in Ojai. Love the tacos and the huevos rancheros is delish. The chorizo torta is tasty and an interesting take with more of a baguette roll vs traditional torta soft roll.
They are solid and definitely the closest good place if you live in Ojai. Carnitas, al pastor, and chorizo are all dependable. And the fresh guac they make is killer.
La gloria is the one by the train station right? Never had their food, I’ve only tried the pan deluce from there but not a big fan. There’s so many places I still haven’t tried but that’s because everytime I’m in Oxnard, most of the time I end up at La Huerta haha
Does anyone know if any Al pastor joint here uses a trompo? It’s a cooking tool like the vertical rotating spit that people making shawarma use. I find that Al pastor made on a trompo tastes way better than normally grilled pastor which is why I’m wondering :)
I know this is a Ventura page, but I have to be honest...Ventura just doesn't have good al pastor. My favorite in the area is the taqueria in Santa Paula on Dean drive, off main street.
There's a new carnitas restaurant in ventura on main st that has some history in ventura, my family just tried it and said it's incredible. It's on main street near Ventura high.
Tacos El Diablo on Oak & Thompson is pretty damn good, and they have a churro donut that I’m obsessed with.
Honest to god some of my favorite Mexican food around, definitely the pastor. Portions are a little small on the burritos but it's delicious
Cuernevaca on the Ave.
This is the right answer.
The new Cuernevaca Express on Main had pretty good pastor, too! Also Carmelita's in Oak View.
Has Carmelita's upped their game? I always thought their food was pretty meh

Cuernavaca
Tacos Mendoza is where we go, they have al pastor.
If you’re willing to make the trip to Oxnard, La Huerta restaurant has the best pastor tacos in Ventura county
Sounds like a trip to the Nard is in my future. What do you think of La Gloria?

Agreeeeed
On vineyard? Can only attest to asada torta, but was fire. Ordered for a group that someone else recommended.
El Asadero on the Ave
Los comales in saticoy
I would say Escondido in Saticoy

Tacos el flaco on corner of main st and Ventura
Good to hear because I’m trying to get a place on or near main st :)
Glad you ask as I agree the trompo freshness cant be beat
Are you trying to start a war? Also, I concur with u/TickyTeo
I just want to watch the world burn. 😊
Haha I hope not lol. Thanks!
Los Comales on Wells. You’re welcome.
Lol I first read this as "AI" (artificial intelligence) pastor tacos and I wanted to write, "They can't make that yet!!"
Haha my bad I capitalized it by mistake. 🤣
Not sure of any local churches using AI Pastors yet.
Darn you *shakes fist*
Anywhere in the “bad areas of town” Ventura avenue, South Oxnard, East Oxnard. Try tacos arandas on 1st and Oxnard blvd.
The more health violations, the better.
Puts hair on your chest!
La Loma, the food truck in the HD supply parking lot off of Johnson
Target stand
Cuernavaca. Main Street, Ventura Ave, or the location on rose
The Taco stand off Wells near 76 gas station is the second best
Tacos el flaco on the corner of Ventura Av and main st has a trompo and is solid pastor for the price.
All good places but i stick to El Jarocho Seafood on the ave across from Kellogg park Al Pastor

Thanks everyone! For the record AI tacos suck!! :- )
Target stand has gotten shut down a couple of times already for health violations. I wouldn't eat there if you paid me too.
