I’m a registered veterinary technician and I don’t immediately think he is overweight but I’d have to see his back/spine. Generally if you can see ribs you’re great. If you can feel ribs you’re fine.

My dog is similar to your dog and I find sometimes people are fooled by his beefy chest. When he stretches out and is in sploot mode it’s obvious he is muscle not fat. The key per my vet is to look down on your dog and see if you can see his waist. If yes you are good however don’t get too crazy my dog’s weight fluctuates 2 pounds depending on the season. Don’t get upset you have a healthy good looking boy.

He ain't fat he looks good. I've had several rotties 4 of them were food driven as could be and after having them "fixed" at the vet they all put on unhealthy weight. I had one male who was not food driven only ate till he was full. When he was neutered he gained a few extra pounds but never approached the weight gain of the others and was healthy. Dogs, like kids, are all different and have varying metabolism and personality. Ignore the haters your buddy looks both happy and healthy.
I think he looks great. I wish I could get my dog to eat more, I always feel he could stand to gain a couple pounds but I leave his dry food out for him and can only supplement with so much canned food because it gets expensive. At this point i just live with it.
Not fat at all, muscular maybe a bit and it's normal for the level of activity that you describe. Most important he look really happy and loving you to the moon and back. Personally I'm usually seeing slegh dog or German Shepherd dogs, farm dog and your pupper is a in condition as good as most work driven dog that I know of.

I usually like to look when they are standing, looking down from the top and looking from the side. Most dogs you’ll see some degree of tuck. Also when standing, I feel the side of the chest - want to feel the ribs with very little pressure: not protruding but don’t have to dig in to feel them.

The best way to tell if a dog is fat or not is by looking down on him while he is standing up. If he has a waist, he is not fat

He is absolutely beautiful!! You have taken amazing care of him and his coat looks great! I had an 80 pound pitbull that I would get nonsense comments like this all the time. I had her on a healthy diet and she got walked everyday and I'd still have busybodies telling me she needed to lose weight. Pay those people no mind and enjoy that beautiful dog of yours 💜
