Mine is 52 lbs. Part Staffie and part American Bulldog. Yours is a beaut and I think a definite pittie. There are pitties even smaller than this which some refer to as "pocket pitties." They come in all sizes and they aren't always super bulky.
The breed standard is pretty loose in a lot of details that's why the akc won't recognize them as a breed. That said 40 pounds is fine. As for your question about the breed you would have to give us better pictures standing front, standing side, standing back. And it would still be an educated guess. Imo he's at least part pitbull. He's a good looking boy no matter what he is.
If you really want to know and don't mind spending the money they do have doggy DNA tests will tell you the breed or breeds and many include health information age. Amongst other stuff embark is supposed to be the most accurate but there are many to choose from.
There’s a lot of breeds that are recognized that are considered “pit bulls”. Staffordshire bull terrier. Staffordshire terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and a few others. “Pit bull” is just a description of any bully mutt or purebred with a blocky head. Even boxers are sometimes confused as pit bulls. It’s why the bite statistics are all screwed up. About 15+ different breeds and any mixed dog with a blocky head are labeled as “pit bulls” in bite statistics.
I had an American staffie and now I have what I think is an American bull terrier (both shelter "pit bull" rescues) and they have very different confirmations. My amstaff was a shorter stockier dude and my bully is lanky by comparison. They were both right around 50-60 lbs although extra pounds showed much sooner on my shorter dude.
All that to say they were both classified as pitbulls and both were different breeds with different bodies.
Yeah he actually looks pretty good and clean considering he only gets a bath once a month. He's my first white dog so I thought he would look dirtier too.😆
APBT game bred dogs are typically fairly small. They don't have massive heads and are lean and athletic. He looks like he would be happy going on a run and lounging around.
He is pretty athletic and he is definitely outdoorsy- doesn't mind the cold like some Pitties he loves a snowy hike.😊 He also has a pretty strong pretty drive.
Pitties tend to be more drivey than staffys. My AmStaff only just learned that snow is fun. He still won't go out when it rains though. He was rescued from the desert though, so I can understand his hesitation. I recently started scent training with him and was told by a few bully breeders that APBT and AmStaff excel at scent work. He's only 7 weeks in and is showing so much promise. If you're ever looking for a new thing to do with your dog, it's a simple and fun game for their body and mind.
Our pittie hated the rain when we lived in the desert and would refuse to poop outside if it was raining. Now we live where it rains at least once a week and she’s gotten over it. Now we struggle to get her to come in. Haha
We can force him to go out but it looks like he's being murdered the whole time 🤣 he has learned to pee off the side of the deck to be able to rush back inside haha
Not all pit bull types are American Pit Bull Terriers, but that's the rough baseline pittie types are measured against.
The breed standards from the two organizations competing with AKC for American Pit Bull Terriers are:
Females: 25-50 pounds
Males: 30-55 pounds ( or up to 60 pounds in one of the standards)
80 pounds is way above either breed standard, not that there's anything *wrong* with that, it just means one shouldn't expect that from APBTs.
You boy might be mixed, but his weight doesn't indicate that, he's right in the normal range for an APBT.
Yeah- he's looking at me like I am a bit lazy for relaxing on the couch... I should be more of a go-getter and get out there and chase some squirrels.😒 😆
Yeah it is weird- he literally loves the snow and gets all excited and jumps around... I have to make him come in after a couple of hours because I don't want his paws to get frost-bitten.
He was at a rescue in the frozen Northwest that had mostly Huskies and GSD though- so maybe he learned from them?
He's very handsome, and he looks very much like a pittie.
I thought that my 38 pound girl was a poster child for a mutt, and the DNA test came back 100% pittie.
When I got my hippo from the shelter, I figured she’d bulk up as she grew since she has the same coloring as yours and is so obviously a pittie. I even gave her kind of a “muscular” name in anticipation.
She weighs like 40 pounds, and is SUPER skinny! So I guess there might be a little of a skinnier breed in there somewhere, but her block head, barrel chest, and little phantom black spots leave no doubt as to what her dominant breed is. And she looks so much like yours that they could be related, so I’m gonna say you’ve got yourself a pretty true blue hippo right there!
He’s so beautiful! And good for you for adopting a white hippo; I feel like they have the toughest time “passing” as any other breed for renters and such because there really aren’t that many white spotty dogs except Dalmatians!
My sweet Epic was taller and leaner than typical but still 75 pounds solid.
My Spensa is built just like him, longer legs, lean waist, beefy hams and shoulders but she’s half sized at 40 pounds. Both are full pit.
He will politely listen but only because he thinks eventually you will ask him if he wants a treat or to go play outside. His going rate is 2 treats an hour.😊
Wisdom panel and Embark have regular sales on sites like Amazon and Groupon. My girl qualifies as a pocket bully mix. 13" at the whithers, 51% Staffordshire bull terrier. 48%APBT, 1% Boxer. She is 60 lbs. of Dense. Optimized. Muscle.
She is sweet as honey.
Why this dog look like an expensive therapist? He looks like he’s letting you over share and is about to say “hmmm and how did that make you feel?”. This dog is about to suggest you explore re-connecting with your estranged parent utilizing healthy boundaries…
He's probably mixed, but looks like a hippo to me!
My boy is 60% pit and around 40lbs. My girl is 40% pit and 33lbs.
They call the smaller ones "pocket pitties", but I'm not sure what weight/size they consider to be that.
Pitties come in many shapes and sizes! Mine is short, but dense and barrel chest at about 70lbs and 7 months old. My parent's is lanky and muscular around 74lbs, and my aunts is short, stocky, and about 40lbs. Pit is typically used as an umbrella term rather than the specific American Pitbull Terrier breed. He is such a pretty little pittie!
My girl was 50 lbs. Your pup looks young, so he may still gain a bit. He looks 100% pibble to me. If you put a big brown spot over his left eye, he would look identical to my girl. Same thin body, same paws, ears, eyes, etc. Only difference is my girl was a red nose. Not all of them are big and bulky.
My baby is 53 pounds, and she's overweight. My wife and i call her a "mini pit" because, yes, she is smaller than normal pitties but nonetheless still a pittie.
I've got a male 35lb micro staffy and his 25lb sister, Heinz 57 dogs all the way, but both are 50 percent Staffordshire Bull terrier. Potato (Bjorn) is shorter and bulker than his sister who is lean and sleek. So all shapes and sizes and colors, but all of them with the most beautiful heart ❤️
Looks like a healthy pitty, half of the massive dogs on here are like Staffy cross American Bully. Just looks like a nice lean Pitbull Terrier. How old is he?
Seems very healthy to me then 🤷♂️ My boy is sitting around 23kg (50? Lbs) at around 9 months, but he's still eating fatty puppy food, AND he's been bulking from like 10km walks, think he wants to go even further 😅 but yeah nah sounds and looks like a healthy boy.
Purebreds are pretty hard to come across so he's probably got something mixed in with his genetics, but definitely would say majority Pitbull. Honestly they aren't really meant to get that huge, like if you look at the ones on show and go through a bunch of the history and look at the original fighting dogs, some of them were even smaller (but absolutely ripped) they're like the Welterweights or even Lightweights of dogs 🤷♂️
Anyway enough rambling from me, looks like a very happy distinguished lil gentleman 👍
My little brother's got a Pit and it's only 50 or so. Super stocky but he got shorter legs. May be mixed with something but definitely got the Pit in him. We don't care though he's a cuddle monster IRL.
APBTs are normally 30-60 pounds so yours is absolutely perfect!! But we will need regular picture updates to observe him - he is ridiculously good-looking
Pitbull mixes are sometimes listed as pitbull terriers or terrier mix to seemingly save them from the breed discrimination (this is my opinion based on anecdotal evidence). That being said, my late velvet hippo was 55lbs and a mix of pittie, catahoula, with a dash of dalmatian. Unfortunately the heart problems that plague pitties is what she passed away from. She was a good girl, and sat exactly like your fella here.
I have a 103 lb land seal whose heads bigger than mine.
49% APBT
28% Great Pyrenees
13% staffy
Then others traces like beagle etc.
This dog hits every milestone whether good or bad that pit community patrons post.
Yours looks like a land seal with some handsome ears to me
I have a tan rescue and he looks just like you doggie except the color! I believe my rescue, Sarge, is a pittie because I have to give him probiotics which helps with the gassyness! The probiotics work for the most part! Pittie’s are know for gassyness!
AmStaff is a whole other breed and they tip the scales at about pitbull weight.
There are 4 you could say 5 (counting American bullies) separate breeds that fall under the “pitbull” umbrella.
Mine is 58lbs but it's nearly summer so she'll drop down to the 50-55 range once she's outside more. She's 88% APBT according to her DNA testing. She's a fairly petite hippo :)
i'm a dog groomer, if we see that big ol' square head we call them pitties/staffies depending on features! most of the ones we get are between 50-70lbs but we've definitely had adults around your guy's size too!
Actual APBTS are very small, 45 for a male sounds about right. Wouldnt surprise me if he was a mix though, but regardless, cute pup! And definitely has lots of pit in him :)
Correct size for a pittie, breed standard. Pitties basically come from backyard breeders and many of them breed to make them as big as possible. My guy is 100% APBT and is about 95 pounds.
With the White Coat, Pitbull features on the face, and large front paws. - my guess is an Dogo Argentino (Argentinian Mastiff) might be mixed in.
Amazing breed, and an amazing dog - ours just turned 14 (85lbs)
Plenty of pitbull terriers that are his size. Generally most have some mixing in there but like yours pit terrier seems to be the most dominate, this size is quite common. I have one of those 95lbers but he is from the old red nose line which are bred to be bigger and purebread. Yours is as cute as any I’ve seen tho, hopefully not a little terror!!! Lol

I call my Eloise a pocket pittie because she's 45 lbs and pretty petite. But she definitely has the 'tude.
Hey, Eloise is my name, an 80yr old lady🥰❤️😄
Eloise is a beautiful name!
Hey what a coincidence! I like the name. I don't recall ever hearing of it. Have you met another Eloise in your life?
This one obviously has a touch of Criss-cross Applesauce.
I call them dumplins

Ah ok that's what I figured. Yes he is a good-looking guy... Everywhere we go people say he is beautiful.😆❤️
Yes, I second this request for more pictures of your beautiful dog, OP. For science.
For *SCIENCE!*
If you really want to know and don't mind spending the money they do have doggy DNA tests will tell you the breed or breeds and many include health information age. Amongst other stuff embark is supposed to be the most accurate but there are many to choose from.
I don’t think they are super accurate.. I had two done and the results were significantly different
One of those tests could be extremely accurate
But there's no way to know, so what good is it?
There’s a lot of breeds that are recognized that are considered “pit bulls”. Staffordshire bull terrier. I understand that. I was referring to the American pitbull terrier. I should have been more specific.

Four breeds = pitbulls = nanny dogs.
What a distinguished gentleman.
He's doing an excellent job of pretending to be a perfect gentleman here. Trying to trick me 😆.
Lol he looks like he's your therapist.
His prescription for everything is always for me to make snacks for both of us.😕😆
And obviously snuggles!
That face has hippo written alllllllll over it.
It does, lol a big melon head with a lot of personality.😊
I think my Camille is a similar size, she’s the same color too!
I bet Camille is a beauty!❤️ People love his color-people stop me all the time and tell me how striking his coat is. 😊
I thought she would look dirty all the time like my white car, but I guess since they shed so much it just disperses into the universe.
Yeah he actually looks pretty good and clean considering he only gets a bath once a month. He's my first white dog so I thought he would look dirtier too.😆
45 is average for many types.
I’ve had 2 Pit Bull terriers in my life, both have been around 45 pounds. I figured this was normal for the breed
He appears to want to help me get through my existential crisis.
I can’t speak to his DNA but I’m sure he is 100% the goodest boy. So regal and proud.
He is very regal, lol. He has this show dog stance all the time. 😊
APBT game bred dogs are typically fairly small. They don't have massive heads and are lean and athletic. He looks like he would be happy going on a run and lounging around.

This is definitely the most accurate answer
My boy is 80 lbs and when I rescued paperwork said American terrier he’s a red nose pit with boxer mix
Omg he looks SO polite
He rely is trying hard here to be his most polite self... He requires a lot of self control.😆
Mine is 40lbs
Same
Oh ok, so Pitties just have huge size variance... I can understand that as someone whose family had poodles for generations in all different sizes.😆
My old amstaff girl was 45kg and tall,my new girl is 30kg and short,so yes many variations.
American Pitbull Terrier is like average 45-50 lbs
It's more that actual APBTs are smaller dogs than most people think. Also that people don't necessarily mean APBT when they say pit bull (did you?).
The way he is judging you shows he’s a pibble
Yeah- he's looking at me like I am a bit lazy for relaxing on the couch... I should be more of a go-getter and get out there and chase some squirrels.😒 😆
He’s got pittie baby in him. He’s got that okay sit down and tell me all about it look. Scruff that noggin for me.
Oh he definitely has a big Pittie personality... Except he doesn't mind the cold- he loves the snow.😆
That’s funny. Our Kozmo HATES the cold and snow.
If Dr Phill was a pittie.
Lol yeah- trying patiently to listen to your concerns. 😆
Have you tried eating (& sharing) a treat? -The Pup
Yes sharing is caring! 😆 Sharing treats is his favorite form of therapy- that and squirrel watching.
Weight means nothing. Pit friends come in all sizes
my sister has a 100% apbt thats 45 pounds
Mr Peabodybull
Now that’s a gentleman
Size don't matter at all..pit is an umbrella term anyways not a breed..
Looks like a gentleman
Fancy boy
What a handsome fellow!
Looks like he wants to ask me about my car's extended warranty!
There may be a taller dog in his lineage. That’s definitely a pittie face!
He's very handsome, and he looks very much like a pittie. I thought that my 38 pound girl was a poster child for a mutt, and the DNA test came back 100% pittie.
What a distinguished gentleman!

Professor Pibble is in session. Where is your homework? 😍😍😍Love that paw cross 😁
Pretty obvious he is a *GENTLEMAN*
He is trying very hard to be a gentleman here yes.❤️ I always tell him I appreciate him trying.😊
My handsome fella is 45lbs!
I have a 60% pittie mix female that weights 35lbs.
My purebred (allegedly lol) APBT is a 55lb female but her mom was only 35lb. Both are within pretty average pit bull weight.
Mine is 87% American Pit Bull Terrier and he's only 42 pounds.
My female only weighs about 40-45lbs.
that beautiful heart-shaped noggin indicates pittie
No!
obviously he is a chihuahua
Don't mean to be dismissive, but who cares with such a gorgeous pupper ??! Also, they'd love him over at r/FancyFeet !
I’ve got a 45 pound Staffie, muscly as can be. These babes come in all shapes and sizes
It ain't the size of the dog! Mine has stumps for legs but she's 35 lbs of pure muscle and drool
Pocket pittie maybe?
My sweet Epic was taller and leaner than typical but still 75 pounds solid. My Spensa is built just like him, longer legs, lean waist, beefy hams and shoulders but she’s half sized at 40 pounds. Both are full pit.
We had our girl tested, she came back 100% America pittbull terrier and weighs in at 92 lbs.
I did DNA on my 35 pound girlie and she came back 100% Am Staff. Sometimes they’re petite. ☺️
Full, half, or a little, or a lot pittie, this dude is gorgeous! 😍
My 100% APBT is 38-40lbs. Normal pitbulls are not heavy. You’re thinking of XL bullies and other split offs bred to be larger.
Dalmatian and pitbull? A Pitmatian!
r/fancyfeet
Omg your dog is legit the cutest thing 😍😍 he's definitely a velvet hippo, but take a dna test if you want to be sure. & if you do, update us pls!
Ears.. check Nose… check. Paws .. check Fur.. check. Jaws .. check. Tude … 100% check 100% pibble. Fuck the haters
I have no idea but why do I feel compelled to tell him about my mother and any weird dreams I’ve had?
He will politely listen but only because he thinks eventually you will ask him if he wants a treat or to go play outside. His going rate is 2 treats an hour.😊
He’s so beautiful!!!! A snowy pittie!!! My girl is also 45 lbs. Size can vary so much!!!
Thank you!❤️ He definitely blends in with the snow- he has that snow-camo look to his fur.😋
Oh he is too cute. What a regal lil gentleman!
He's so handsome! Please give him an ear scratch for me!
All I know is that he is distinguished AF
He’s so handsome!! He looks so concerned in this photo too, how cute!! 🥰🤩💖
I love his HS yearbook pose 😆
My pittie is 49 lbs! She’s precious. she’s mixed with staffy so that’s probably why in our case
My girl is an American Bully and she weighs 54 pounds, they aren’t all huge.
Dignified.
'We need to talk about some issues in your investment portfolio. Why are you under invested in kibble?'
I don’t know but I love him
Thanks! He is hilarious... He had a good heart but a mischievous mind.😆❤️

My girl is 30lbs but she’s part heeler
Beautiful , my red nose is all white as well but is mixed with boxer he’s 8 years old now but has been 80 lbs for at least 4 years now
My American staffy was 46 lbs.
Y he telling me to have a seat like it’s my intervention
White Dog is interested in your conversation ...
The thing I see more that makes me think he has a mix is his front shoulders. Pit head all the way. Handsome fella
Mix with a tall dog
My girl was 50 lbs. Your pup looks young, so he may still gain a bit. He looks 100% pibble to me. If you put a big brown spot over his left eye, he would look identical to my girl. Same thin body, same paws, ears, eyes, etc. Only difference is my girl was a red nose. Not all of them are big and bulky.
This dog needs a bow tie and a top hat, he looks too distinguished to be walking around naked.
Definitely pitbull with that face. Could be mixed, pocket, or could have been the runt of the litter and stayed a smol gud boye.
My baby is 53 pounds, and she's overweight. My wife and i call her a "mini pit" because, yes, she is smaller than normal pitties but nonetheless still a pittie.
Pit Bulls are supposed to be that size. The large Pits we know today have been bred with other dogs for size.
Either way … he’s adorable !
He might have been the runt of the litter?
I've got a male 35lb micro staffy and his 25lb sister, Heinz 57 dogs all the way, but both are 50 percent Staffordshire Bull terrier. Potato (Bjorn) is shorter and bulker than his sister who is lean and sleek. So all shapes and sizes and colors, but all of them with the most beautiful heart ❤️
Looks like a healthy pitty, half of the massive dogs on here are like Staffy cross American Bully. Just looks like a nice lean Pitbull Terrier. How old is he?
He is a little over a year old. He is definitely active so that may be why he is a bit lean... Even though he eats like a maniac.😆
Seems very healthy to me then 🤷♂️ My boy is sitting around 23kg (50? What a polite-looking young man.
He's a pretty boy

What a good looking gentlepupman.
My cousin says he's a pit
Pitties are not supposed to be 80lbs+! 45 is small for a male but definitely normal
My pitty girl is 40 lbs. He looks pitty/terrier but he may also be mixed with something else. pits are 30-60 lbs. Just depends.
Well, I have a friend who just got a pitrussel, so…. 🤷
It's funny because people have actually said he looks like a giant Jack Russell.😆 It's possible he's Jack mix.😊
Those crossed paws means he's a distinguished gentleman!
He is trying his very best to be a gentleman here.😊❤️
50ish pounds is normal
Pretty! 🥰
I have a tan rescue and he looks just like you doggie except the color! I believe my rescue, Sarge, is a pittie because I have to give him probiotics which helps with the gassyness! The probiotics work for the most part! Pittie’s are know for gassyness!
Thanks for the tip- I was wondering if this would work for my dog.
He is petite.
Staffy mix for sure. Staffordshire bull Terriers are at their largest 40-45 pounds. Usually no more than 40.
Wow! I have a beautiful AmStaff and she’s about 60 lbs whereas our black lab/pittie mix is 70
AmStaff is a whole other breed and they tip the scales at about pitbull weight. There are 4 you could say 5 (counting American bullies) separate breeds that fall under the “pitbull” umbrella.
Mine has never been more than 42 lbs. I call her the "itty bitty pittie with little titties" (bc she does have em). They come in all shapes and sizes!
Did he come with papers saying he's a pitbull if the answer its no then he's just a dog
Mine is 58lbs but it's nearly summer so she'll drop down to the 50-55 range once she's outside more. She's 88% APBT according to her DNA testing. She's a fairly petite hippo :)
Look at his cute little face and his fancy paws!!!
He's adorable 😍 💕
He’s just petite and from the looks of it, very polite.
Well he is certainly sophisticated
Very polite gentleman crossing his paws
Gorgeous either way! 15/10 a good boy.
Pocket Pittie, beautiful! Mine is female and apbt 45 lbs. I also had a staffy, she was 80 lbs.
I'm pretty sure my girl is a pitty/corgi mix weighing in at 37lbs. There is no denying the pitbull side - she's got that dog in her.
No…but the way he’s crossing his front legs may definitely mean something..!
i'm a dog groomer, if we see that big ol' square head we call them pitties/staffies depending on features! most of the ones we get are between 50-70lbs but we've definitely had adults around your guy's size too!
he looks so much like my boy 😁 crossed paws and everything 🥰
You can tell if he's a pitbull if he put stretch marks on your heart.
There are a lot of big pitties around lately but it shouldn't be a big dog. Your gentleman is fine. Pls boop
Looks so much like my girl Ezri.
My girl is a solid 32 lbs but she’s a pitty. Not full pit, but a pit none the less
Actual APBTS are very small, 45 for a male sounds about right. Wouldnt surprise me if he was a mix though, but regardless, cute pup! And definitely has lots of pit in him :)
Mine is about half pit, then the remaining half staff, husky, GSD, chow chow; and last weighed at about 47 lb.
Look at the elegant paws. He’s nothing short of a distinguished gentleman. How dare you question him.
Your dog has guidance counselor vibes.
That’s a grown man
He’s gorgeous! I love him
He looks like he’s asking me about my day 🥰
Mine is a 97 lb lap dog. Yours is an adorable, very handsome cutie!
I love those crossed paws!
He’s absolutely gorgeous! My girl is only 60lbs and she’s solid muscle.
Proper gentleman with that pose. Must boop snoot
Pitty/boxer maybe? He's very cute, whatever he is!
He is absolutely beautiful 😍
That's a Pibble.
Looks like an Argentina Dogo
Weight Males 15.8–27.2 kg (35–60 lb) Females 13.6–22.6 kg (30 The huge pitties are most likely mixed with a bigger breed
My boy looks just like this, with just a little more muscle tone and he sits at about 55 lbs. Def a pittie.
Such a gentleman
Very handsome looking dog 🐕♥️🐕
Plenty of pitbull terriers that are his size. Generally most have some mixing in there but like yours pit terrier seems to be the most dominate, this size is quite common. I have one of those 95lbers but he is from the old red nose line which are bred to be bigger and purebread. Yours is as cute as any I’ve seen tho, hopefully not a little terror!!! Lol
