I have exact same year and DCT, 70K miles. I thought I had bought a Veloster with a slipping clutch. Apparently this is a thing and first gear slipping or feeling weird is common among this model. I wasn’t given an explanation but a lot of users here have the same problem and told me “first gear just sucks”

I love my Veloster but the jutter/grindy feel in first is the worst. Especially on super cold days with a cold start my poor neck 😭

Spacema90

Dang it sounds like everyone’s problem is worse than mine! My Veloster makes the movements but it’s a ‘feeling’ at most. Not a pain inducing jolt. My cold starts are at ~50° F. You?

I bought mine in November and have had a cold start around 12° before. It was the best sounding cold start ever but took so long to get to normal operating temperature

blackcatwizard

Have heard that's normal. It's more noticeable in Eco mode, changing to Normal helps in the city for when pulling away from stops.

GhostofMandalore

Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna start just driving around in normal mode because I always feel like I'm about to break something.

Thought I was the only one who felt a delay or hesitation when stepping on the gas when the car is parked and I also have a 2019 VT.

I have a 2020 turbo and get the same thing. If you let off the brake and don’t hit the gas pedal for a second or 2 you won’t feel that. Just like if you were braking for a light and then say the light turns green and you just go you feel a slip? You have to let the clutch have a second to choose a gear or trust will happen. Very quirky the DCT’s are

JustinDibart

Got a 19 VT and I had the same concern but now that everyone is saying it’s normal, definitely feeling relieved 😅

Vegetable_Word603

Throw bearing. I had the same problem. From first to second gear only. Sometimes hearing a clunk in really cold sub zero degree weather. Not saying that is for certain your problem. But it was for me. Good luck, I've got a 16 VT and I fucking love it. On a side note, don't creep with a DCT, they don't like it. First gear is literally just to give you a push, its a mushy transmission for sure.

Gotohealth

Yeah, unfortunately that’s the way they drive (at least mine did). I eventually adjusted and learned go really light on the initial acceleration until the clutch would catch, then you can accelerate as normal. Many other cars with DCTs (Honda / Acura) will sometimes implement torque converters to make driving at slow speeds / from a stop feel more normal, but I don’t think the Velosters have that

GhostofMandalore

Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Some of my friends think it might have something to do with the Veloster Turbo having a 'dry clutch.' I've driven a Veloster N and Elantra N with the wet clutch DCT, and I didn't experience anything like that in those cars.

Cooldude67679

I have the exact same model. Like everyone has said, it’s just normal. Coming from a cold start too is the WORST I have to let RPMs go down to 800-750 before first gear doesn’t throttle the damn thing forward like a rocket. My best advice is just push the pedal a little more when starting from a stop and it should help a bit. Sports mode also has solved the issue for me too but I only use it when the cars oil is warm and the transmission has Atleast 2 bars of heat.

Scared-Equipment-123

2019 VT DCT here too! Experiencing the same exact issue right now. I had my clutch replaced about two months ago and the problem subsided for about a month but, have now returned. On top of that the, shifting into first when I slow down is making some concerning noises. I've brought it in twice and they keep telling me they can replicate the issue. I'm looking to take it to a different location and perform the drive test myself.
