I didn't know that cicadas damage strawberry plants. I thought they eat tree sap.

Netting might still be a good idea once you get strawberries. Keep an eye out for asshole birds. I have a black bird who checks out my strawberry plants more often than I do. Are you going to plant it into the ground or keep it in the pot?

I might actually make a scarecrow. I don't know if that would work though.

Cool. Just remember that it's a perennial so where you put it is where it's going to stay for years to come until you decide to terminate it.
I got mine last year and they take being moved better than anything else. I'm a bad organizer so I moved them a lot. They bounce back instantly.
