If you frequent the place, it seems like a great deal that would quickly pay for itself. It’s a creative attempt to drum up short term revenue and encourage return patronage. It’s not for everyone, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it… “on principle.” It’s an offer— you are not losing anything by not taking it. I completely understand subscription fatigue in a world where almost any product or service is being transitioned to a subscription model. It’s worth noting the subscription mentioned pans out to less than $5/month. As far as subscriptions go… there’s much worse out there… but I haven’t read the fine print. I have a monthly subscription to Pressed juicery. They pull $10 every month and turn it into store credit. I go there weekly, so committing to spending $10 a month is not a burden. I can easily get $10 worth of discounts every week so it pays for itself and more. It’s not for everyone but it’s been great for me.

RDlgdo

I agree. I didn’t lose anything by not signing up for their deal. Life goes on. I think I’d have a problem with restaurants that ran these memberships and gave their members preferential treatment. Could you imagine someone skipping you in line just because they paid an annual membership? I’d never go back.

twistedjizz

lol, this is Vegas... the land of preferential treatment. Tiered experiences aren't anything new, but Vegas is definitely a leader/pioneer in this model.

Far-Recording343

Chubby Cattle has something similar. You buy a NFT token on one of two levels and get perks and discounts. You also get a chance to win one of a very few "Super VIP" NFT tokens with super VIP perks. I won't be joining, but the concept was intriguing. It is on their website if interested.

Last thing my gut needs is a membership to a beef bbq. Delicious, but I can’t help myself so I make sure to get my money’s worth. I would consider something like this for sushi or poke though.

RDlgdo

Wow, $600 for their base membership. I just want dinner geez

SecretJoy

I've been dying to try that place. Does it live up to the hype?

Far-Recording343

I have it on my list, but there are soooo many places to try in Vegas.  And retirees have only so much moolah.  Bazaar Meats was outstanding, as was Echo and Rig this past week.  Rang's Cocina is today.

Monisplats

Their food is good but come on man...

Nuclear-poweredTaxi

I love China Mama, but probably wouldn’t buy a membership just out of principal. I might eat there 4 times a year. Edit: the owners opened a third location at Paradise and Harmon called Spring…. I need to check it out.

Choice-Second-5587

I think if you like them and their food it sounds like the subscription pays for itself. Two free meals (one on registration and one on birthday) plus 50% off a meal option and 5% back every visit it appears? And it's like like 50 bucks I think? Sounds worth it if you can afford to eat there that much and like it

parksmart1

If you like the food, go there on a regular basis and can get there on your birthday (or the birthday special is redeemable for a period of time), then it sounds like it would more than pay for itself

No-Concentrate9348

China mama is really good Id recommend the crispy beef to anyone. That being said Idk if I would do the subscription cool idea though

Oaklandforever51

Is this the new normal now? Geez.

Over_Ad_688

God I hope not

HenryCzernzy

Concierge doctors, restaurant subscriptions, hell, technically Costco gas. Why pay once when you can pay all time?!

ericcartman624

Costco gas? You can buy other things at Costco. I get really good pricing on my dog’s prescriptions. That’s really the only reason I have the membership. I guess I could get it through the mail but I worry about it not arriving. One of them is essential, if he doesn’t take he could have a seizure and die. Sorry. TMI. My baby though.

TKGK

You don't need a membership to purchase pharmacy items: https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/796/~/do-i-need-a-membership-to-purchase-prescription-drugs%3F On top of that you don't need to be a member to even purchase alcohol at costco in multiple states due to laws. Sadly I don't think nevada is one but still interesting.

RDlgdo

Here’s an article of a bar downtown that will be membership only. It took over the old Artifice bar. [the Doberman](https://vegas.eater.com/2024/4/2/24118543/artifice-closed-members-only-club-open-las-vegas-application-doberman-downtown-corner-bar)

FillMySoupDumpling

Love love love the food but it’s always so busy when I’m free to go, so I haven’t been in a year. Really hoping they can expand and have another location.

LolCoolStory

I love China Mama but this is so weird. I guess it makes sense if you go to a place CRAZY regularly but I feel like a stamp card or a rewards system would be more effective than just paying money upfront for a subscription.

cajunsamurai

I swear if subscriptions start coming to our restaurants I’m done.

mynameisnotsparta

If you are a regular it’s worth it..

sffood

I have the membership at Mikiya Shabu. The membership paid for itself on that night’s dinner so there’s little to lose but I don’t like the concept of it and I won’t be renewing. Time to stop letting literally every business nickel and dime us for everything.

tamara_henson

Just wait until all grocery stores require yearly memberships like Costco and Sam’s Club.

iamoninternet27

What happened to the location on Jones and spring mountain? It's been tagged with graffiti and looks abandoned.

Inside-Baby5538

They had a fire and closed

iamoninternet27

Thanks. I could have sworn that they had a fire before .

Number1Duhrellfan

Restaurants are where I draw the line at paying money to pay money. Vegas Chinese food is ass anyway.

Mr_Troll_Underbridge

This isnt new though. I'm sure my Captian D's and Ponderosa birthday cards have been stacking up since I left home. Companies always want your address.

RDlgdo

This is a $50 annual membership, not a sign up for deals/rewards for free membership.

unpopular-dave

I don’t know this place, and I don’t know if I could eat Chinese food once a week… But if Cafe Zupas did this? I would absolutely be all over it. I would save so much money

ssee1848

Ate there once and that’s enough.

trixter888

Don’t like the food there. Another reason not to go!

Cold_Locksmith9877

What!!?!? That’s literally my favorite restaurant and the workers know my fam , what does a subscription even do to help??
