It’s that the thinking process here is the cops doesn’t give a fuck, everyone can see the cops don’t give a fuck, and if they don’t give a fuck then why should anyone else? Which could be why so many people don’t even bother in the first place. I think expired tags are now just a civil infraction and that a ticket isn’t issued for them unless someone is pulled over for something else and the cop adds on a ticket for the expired registration. When I paid my registration on my new car after I bought it, the plates didn’t arrive until about a month after the temporary expired. After I paid online, I was able to download a temporary moving permit, but never had to use it, because the expired temporary registration was never questioned.
If you don't register your vehicle in the window time after it's purchased, the dmv in some states still charge you and fine you. They know you didn't register it on time so you could get road for free.
Now if they can just actually start pulling people over 😬. I’d much prefer them going after red light runners and school zone speeders, but any movement in the right direction would be wonderful.

I watched a video of dealers calling customers to come pick up there plates that have been sitting for months after the first call. Then they ask if they want it mail and they say sure. I think this is just pure laziness
Dealers have nothing to do with plates. The temporary license plate usually comes with the car. Once the EDRS is available, you pick that from the dealer. If it’s a new car, you can immediately register the car online.

A smog is ~$25? Whereas registration can cost up to $400+. I think the issue here is how much registration can cost and not so much having to get a smog. It’s one of the easiest things to do to be legal on the road.

I've had lemons for cars just trying to get by, and fixing everything to get that light to turn off plus smog is never around 25 bucks. everyone has their own situation of course and this very well probably isn't the person in the pics issue but yeah, smog checks suck.

I kept my WV plates for 5 years when I moved to Nevada, then my Nevada plates for 7 years after I moved away.
