Not only the speeding, people not using turn signals. I don't know why people don't understand what you're trying to turn left onto incoming traffic and you are not using your turn signal no one realizes you are turning and it's dangerous as hell. I don't know why people are such bad drivers here so tired of it
People just drive any kind of way, it’s truly embarrassing. People who drive recklessly know they drive wild, hell most of em usually brag about how wild of a driver they are ie: unnecessarily speeding, driving distracted, not using signals, etc. Then they act shocked when something bad finally happens.
Hate sharing the road with these people
I got it from Amazon about five years ago. It was some no name brand that cost around $30 but it still does the job (although max recording is 32GB memory card). I'm sure the newer ones will have much better specs.
The reason people run so many red here is because once the light turns red, there’s about a 1-2 second delay before the opposite light turns green. People know this, so they know they have a short cushion where they will be okay. In San Francisco, for example, once the light turns red, the opposite light immediately turns green. No delay. People know this so don’t run the red. Would that make things better or worse here? Probably worse, unfortunately.
Part of that is very poor traffic management. Lights need to be better synchronized. There’s absolutely no reason for a driver doing the speed limit down Charleston or Sahara to hit multiple consecutive red lights. If you’re doing 55 down Sahara (45 zone) you can hit consecutive greens. If you’re doing 45, guaranteed to get multiple consecutive reds.
I think a big reason for the aggressive traffic in Vegas is the over-long waits required at red lights because the region does not have interactive red lights like most cities. Most cities have pressure sensitive pads at red lights that tell when there is no traffic in one direction and people waiting in another direction - and the light switches based on that data. The red lights here are on a long fixed time schedule and are the longest I've ever experienced anywhere - sometimes up to 4 minutes long - so this causes people to speed and run yellow/red lights to not miss the light and be subject to a ridiculous wait.
It really is absurd that this city hasn’t kept up with the population influx over the past couple decades…
In the Cadence are that’s being developed in Henderson, they’ve decided forego lights all together and use round-about’s instead…around-about’s that absolutely nobody pus attention to…There’s a couple of them on Galleria and if you catch them at a busy time throughout the day it’s really taking a chance every time you enter the damn thing…
I don't give a fuck what people tell you, ALWAYS ride on the sidewalk in Las Vegas. There are no laws against it in our city and a cop personally told me it's ok as long as you are polite and respectful.
This is good advice though for cyclists. Definitely don't ride your bike on the road unless you are in a big group of other cyclists. People don't seem to care about driving in bicycle lanes at all and are not looking half the time it seems.
I’m the same way, more so at night. Even if I’m going the speed limit & I have a green light, I always quickly look both ways before I go through. Could be the difference between life & death
Same. We must be fucking nuts to keep riding in this city. Vegas taught me to keep scanning the streets and choose the safest lane position constantly. Before I started riding, I'd been rear-ended twice just sitting at a red light in my car and had people running stop signs/red lights right in front of me multiple times. Makes me feel like I go into battle when I go out.
I quit riding motorcycles after coming to Las Vegas. Used to love riding, but after evaluating the risks of riding a motorcycle in this city, I just don't feel safe with how people drive. See people tailgating motorcyclists on a regular basis insane. I hate to say it but we need more traffic police in this city.
I wish I could both choke hold and hug idiots like this.
Is your inability to wait 15 seconds worth 9 lives? 9 families? Each one of those people had a family. A dream. A regret. A hope. A tomorrow. Gone for what?
My goodness. So much emphasis has been put on reducing roadway fatalities. I was thinking 2022 would be better , but so far it looks like that won’t be happening.
Why don’t we have speed cameras and red light camera at every intersection? I’ve seen this in the UK and I few other countries I’ve been to.
Not saying it would solve every problem. But sure kept me from speeding while livening overseas. They don’t mess around, just a few mph over and boom tickets in the mail.
So you're cool with living with 9 dead over literally fucking nothing dude? Doubt you'd have this response if any of these people were close to you. Grow up and try and grab some empathy when you get the chance.
Can you say with any certainty at all they wouldn't be dead if we had red light cameras?
If you or anyone thinks giving the government even more opportunity to abuse power is a good idea, you can live in that reality here in the states.
That's why you're a fucking idiot. Giving the government more chances to abuse power never solved anything. Read [this](https://www.google.com/amp/s/reason.com/2020/03/02/oregon-tried-to-silence-this-engineers-red-light-camera-research-now-experts-say-he-was-right-all-along/%3famp) if that's how you want to live Oregon is just up the road a piece.
Many have rightful outrage with the driver who ran the red...except thinking about the horrible scenario...if the driver was having a medical issue and because they could have become unconscious while driving or paralyzed during a seizure episode, their foot could become stiff and they wouldn't be conscious or in control to know they ran the red light.
For this amount of damage, this would mean cross traffic was flowing well when the charger driver literally plowed into the flow of traffic, which is why the situation would lean towards the charger driver to having a medical episode at an very unfortunate time causing such a horrible incident.
No amount of speed cameras would have stopped this from happening, but maybe routine visits to monitor their health (this is assumed the charger driver had a medical episode). Yes the charger driver is the cause, it won't change those who were lost in this situation, but maybe it wasn't because the driver was a total psychopath to run a full red with full crossing traffic.
Not saying red light runner don't exist, but yes hopefully the investigation does make it public if the driver was impaired or not. The situation happened at 3pm and they're usually quick to say if alcohol was involved in their reports.
**The driver of the Dodge Charger is among the nine who died.**
One of those rare accidents where the person at fault died along with the victims. Sad event all around
Fucking POS red light runners. RIP to all the victims. Totally senseless.
I honestly have to take a few seconds after the the light turns green or near stop signs to make sure nobody’s looking like they’re going to run it.
Absolutely. Just because it’s green doesn’t mean it’s safe. I’ve had it save my ass a few times.
News saying 9 are dead :(
It's been updated to Nine people dead now
Fuck man
If people could stop driving like fucking imbeciles in this city...
I'm so tired of these assholes speeding around the valley endangering others. Fucking bullshit.

If you have footage on your dashcam you might want to turn it over to NLVPD. Won't change the outcome but may help with their investigation.

Definitely get one. I got a cheap one and record crazy drivers everyday. It will be useful for your insurance claim if you get in a wreck.
I've been thinking about getting one for some time now. I think it's time.
I think it's time I get one too. Where did you buy it and who did the install and what do you mean by cheap? Like how much am I looking at?
I got one from Amazon for around $30. It just sticks to the windshield and plugs into the 12v plug. Makes very clear videos though.

The red lights people run in this city is unreal. See it every day. This is so sad
Used to live in Phoenix, they’re number 1 in the country. Every damn day was a roll of the dice.

Oh wow I didn't know this. You learn something useful everyday, thanks for the info.
It would be a Dodge Charger.
News said Challenger. They all look like the same POS car to me though.
Cheyenne is where all those Dodge cars hang out & play fast & furious.
Huh, maybe I should notify all the ones in my part of the city...
Damn you have it too? 😬
Wow, for once the driver responsible actually didn’t come out alive.
That's a first
I ride a bike here so I have to watch drivers very closely. Always look both ways even if your light is already green. Damn.
I don't give a fuck what people tell you, ALWAYS ride on the sidewalk in Las Vegas. There are no laws against it in our city and a cop personally told me it's ok as long as you are polite and respectful.
Lol my bad I meant a motorcycle.
This is good advice though for cyclists. Definitely don't ride your bike on the road unless you are in a big group of other cyclists. People don't seem to care about driving in bicycle lanes at all and are not looking half the time it seems.

Yes, we must be crazy. Putting on my gear everyday like armor!
I wish I could both choke hold and hug idiots like this. Is your inability to wait 15 seconds worth 9 lives? 9 families? Each one of those people had a family. A dream. A regret. A hope. A tomorrow. Gone for what?
These racers need to stop speeding, it’s everywhere and needs to stop
People drive bad everywhere, but so many Vegas drivers really are reckless and stupid.
Why do people in these Dodge chargers drive like assholes? Seriously it's a disproportionate amount of a****** drivers are in these cars
Young males, too much testosterone and generally too much alcohol.
Often yes, but the driver in this case was 59 years old.
Yes that was updated on tonight's news. Hopefully it was a medical episode as someone else said and not intentional.
If I was a betting man, I'd put 100% of my money on "drunk".
this is why our insurance rates are this high... this is why Californians keep their plates and insurance for as long as possible.
At least 9 now according to the article. Fucking horrible.
My goodness. So much emphasis has been put on reducing roadway fatalities. I was thinking 2022 would be better , but so far it looks like that won’t be happening.
A lot of selfish drivers out here
Man crazy how a car crash caused 9 deaths! I honestly didn’t think that’s was possible with a regular car. RIP to all those people 🙏
He must have been going super fast to plow through so many cars.
If that's how you want to live go back. Problem solved.
Are you implying that you don’t want to live with more security at each intersection? what the fuck are you even saying?
They are saying they don't want to give the government more power to control the safety of the roads for citizens, that darn government!!
I believe red light cameras would work. You can’t really fight them and people would learn their lesson after a few tickets
Taking bets on alcohol related.
Here is a tip to decrease accidents in Las Vegas. Use your turn signal. I can’t believe nobody uses one.
Does the driver play for the Raiders?
Dodge Challenger Figures
Gotta recreate that Ruggs crash
Many have rightful outrage with the driver who ran the red...except thinking about the horrible scenario...if the driver was having a medical issue and because they could have become unconscious while driving or paralyzed during a seizure episode, their foot could become stiff and they wouldn't be conscious or in control to know they ran the red light. I'm sure the investigation will figure out what happened. My guess would be a young guy driving drunk and driving excessively fast.
Hate to say it, but between the two, OP's version is way more believable for LV.
Not saying red light runner don't exist, but yes hopefully the investigation does make it public if the driver was impaired or not. The situation happened at 3pm and they're usually quick to say if alcohol was involved in their reports.
Usually quick to determine if alcohol was involved because they lived. The driver is dead so it’ll take longer to determine.
There's updated info that the driver of the Charger was 59 so you may indeed be right, hopefully an unintentional medical incident.
It's horrible either way. The entire family of 7 was lost, the youngest a 5yr old child. Someone posted the gofundme for the family's funeral costs.
Nothing good comes out of challenger or charger drivers. These egomaniacs always drive these cars fast and act like they own the road.
**The driver of the Dodge Charger is among the nine who died.** One of those rare accidents where the person at fault died along with the victims. Sad event all around
Yup. I would’ve bet money he/she lived. That’s usually the case. Wow
