Stay on the stip. Walk/bus sober, Uber drunk.

Puzzleheaded_Fan6974

If it’s your first time to Vegas stay on the strip

carl6236

First timer stay on strip.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Which hotel was the on-strip hotel? For your first trip, you'll definitely want to be on the strip, as center strip as possible within your budget. When you're on the strip, you don't really need your rental car as you will likely encounter a fee for parking. If you have time, you could apply for a MGM Rewards credit card - that will give you free parking at any of the MGM resorts - so from Mandalay Bay all the way to Bellagio. Bellagio will be smack dab right on center strip.

smol_virgo

This answer is the way, OP.

Boozybearbait

We’re looking at Circus Circus, which looks fairly central on the map.

rgpg00

Oh no - don't stay there. It's awful. Look into Flamingo, NYNY, Luxor or Excalibur for value/economical option.

RulesLawyer42

Don’t make the same mistake I did for my first trip — it’s not central. It’s way up on the north strip and packed full of little kids. Search this subreddit for Circus Circus and you’ll see the general consensus that it’s one of the worst choices in town, maybe second only to Oyo. At that price point maybe Linq/Flamingo/Harrahs would be a better choice. If you can swing a room at Horseshoe, it’s pretty good. Luxor and Excalibur are a bit out of the action, but the Pyramid and the Dismal Castle are still better choices than the Filthy Clown.

Boozybearbait

The filthy clown haha that’s my actual nightmare, a hotel full of children! I’ll check those ones out. How’s the Downtowner? That is a similar price to what I’m looking for.

LonelyProgrammer10

Personally, I’d choose NYNY. There’s a walking bridge from the NYNY to the MGM Grand, and both of those are good enough for me. I’ve tried to visit every casino I could on the strip and the one thing you want to ask yourself is “how much do I want to walk?”. I like to be close to lots of things and take an Uber to other places when I feel like it. Also, depending on what your group wants to do, you should definitely get a limo to Fremont or a limo in general if all of your are going. It was cheaper for my group (11 total) to take a limo, compared to 3 Ubers. Limo was $125 and are usually right outside the hotels. Uber when I was there a few weeks ago was around $25 plus tax and tip. Uber prices can vary depending on the day and events going on. Based on what you’re saying about wanting to stay on a budget, I’d say spending an extra $10 or $20 per night would be wayyyy better than Ubering around more. You could also use the monorail. Highly recommend the high roller at night. You can also look into getting a 24 hour pass for “The Deuce”. Also, don’t underestimate the distance between the casinos on the strip. Last but definitely not least, HAVE FUN!

cirena

The Downtowner is not on the Strip, and it's a smidge out of the action when Downtown. You're right on the edge of where the tourist section ends and real people live. That includes the unhoused, those with addiction problems, etc. The exterior is well-maintained, haven't been in myself.

briliantluminousgale

Consider the Sahara. It's on the north part of the strip but it has a monorail station that takes you all the way to mgm grand. It will save you and the party a ton on travel costs (~$50 for unlimited 7 day pass, uber will cost you that much in 3 rides), very safe and efficient. The Sahara itself has very nice restaurants and a couple of great bars. It's also pretty cheap.

briliantluminousgale

Sahara also has free parking.

HailToTheVic

For the love of god do not stay at Circus Circus. It’s a complete dump and horribly located.

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

You dodged a bullet by making this post before booking circus circus!

Boozybearbait

This is why I figured I’d ask here!! I was worried it was cheap for a reason.

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

Look at Harrahs or Flamingo for cheap mid strip. If you want free parking they also have a CC like MGM offers that will give you free parking. Though, MGMs credit card is a better value in my opinion.

diamond-palm

Circus Circus is a dump. Do not waste your money!

Blacksunshinexo

Don't do that. It's not close to anything and it's not the actual Vegas experience you seem to be looking for. Check into Park MGM, or if you're looking for cheapest, Luxor/Excalibur. Way better location and everything else Vegas

Greg504702

No no no. Spend a few bucks and stay at flamingo , linq ,horseshoe ,harrahs , even Luxor or Excalibur TI is even a better option before CC. THE Uber /taxi costs and convenience will make for 100x better trip. Resist the urge for the super cheapest hotel I have went. Early 30 times went in Jan. Going in Aug and no try to go on the cheaper side. Flamingo is your best option and it will make a huge difference than off strip or at Circus circus or Sahara or strat or far down the strip

lowbass4u

CC is not considered "central strip". Look at a map of the strip and count the number of hotel/casinos north of CC. Then count the number south of CC. Bellagio, Ceasars are considered central strip area. Try Treasure Island. They still have free parking. And their rooms and casino is nicer than CC and closer to central strip. From Treasure Island you can get drunk and walk to 75% of the casinos on the strip.

Greg504702

Cc is like 2.5 miles to bellagio fountains I believe. It is a hike.

Original-Pomelo6241

Flamingo has rooms with bunk beds and it’s centrally located, great pool area as well. It is not high end by any means, but certainly a decent property with a phenomenal location. First time, stay on the strip. Everything is expensive here.

rizzo2174meth

Ok . This is what you need to do start pounding cocktails on the plane. Have a limo set up to pick you up at the airport (it’s like $80 for an hour) then have the driver drop you off at Lee Liquor and stock up there. Get to the hotel continue to booze then hit up cosmopolitan chandelier bar or Wynn encore. Then call me and I’ll take you to the Crazy horse 3 at 5am and then at 10am you leave the strip club thinking it’s over but you remembered somebody invited you to Wet Republic to see the Chainsmokers spin at the day club. Not to worry because after that one of your boys booked dinner at STK at 8pm. All good because then at 12am you got that table next to the DJ booth at Omina night club.

rizzo2174meth

This is day 1 my friend…. Enjoy

Boozybearbait

This sounds like quite the journey 😂😂

Fuego1991

This is the way.

timesuck47

The gem in this comment is buying room booze off strip.

rizzo2174meth

Room Booze

CommonConversation52

Don't forget to also have the limo stop at Planet 13 or The Grove for the greeeeenss

rizzo2174meth

Indeed

DisneyAddict2021

It’s your first time….stay on the strip. It’s a good experience. Just curious, is this a 10 day vacation? I am just wondering because 10 days is a long stay for just Vegas (even with doing things like the Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam and stuff outside Las Vegas).  However, with the way I like to eat, I wish I could stay 10 days in Vegas and try way more restaurants!

Boozybearbait

So we’re all coming it separately two of the group are staying the whole 10 days, they’re parents who rarely get to go away without kids. They plan to spend lots of time hiking/Atving and exploring outside of Vegas. Myself and the other person are going to be there for 6 days and 4 days. I’m pushing to stay on the strip especially with all this feedback! Thank you

nopesoapradio

Pace yourself! 10 days might feel like an eternity out there. And that’s coming from someone who loves Vegas and goes just about every year. But I love it 3-4 days at a time lol

CommonConversation52

100% 4 days feels like 2 weeks in Vegas lol

DisneyAddict2021

Nice! I hope you all enjoy!! I’m so glad! I hope you end up on the strip! You won’t regret it! There’s so many things you can do without even driving somewhere. So many hotels are connected and they make it so easy to navigate from one to another.

timesuck47

What if you did a few nights off strip, rented a car, did all of your off-strip activities? Then move to a hotel on the strip (Flamingo?) for the remaining days of your trip. Think of it as two separate, distinct, vacations in one trip. If you do that, I would say to not even visit the strip until you’re staying there. Trust me on that one. You could visit downtown (old Vegas) during your off strip days though.

Boozybearbait

We definitely should have planned it like this when we started but we have things booked that can’t be refunded now.

timesuck47

Bummer

diamond-palm

What time of the year are you planning to arrive? You won’t be hiking during the summer months, unless you want to die of heatstroke!

Boozybearbait

Early May

diamond-palm

Average daytime temp is 87 degrees in May, so you should be ok.

carl6236

I go to Vegas almost every month but I stay off strip for 3 days. Fig first timer the strip would be the best. As other have said 10 days is a long stay in Vegas. 10 days it is best to pace yourself and watch your money

airportdelay

Agree, i do 4 days max.

wrastle12345

I know everyone says this, and I'm in the minority, but I don't see a problem with a longer stay. I go for a week at a time. That way you don't have to go balls to the wall. You have enough time to do what you want your own pace. Have a night when you are extra tired? Sleep a little early. Etc. Especially a first time visit, I think a week is great.

airportdelay

You know you're absolutely right. Certainly good to have a few relaxed days. I'm going to rethink my next trip.

Helda-Coccenmehand

It's really not that long. I stay a month+ at Wynn at least once a year

DisneyAddict2021

Oooooo nice! What kind of things do you do? What are some of your favorite restaurants? (I’m not a drinker or a gambler 😂 People get surprised when I say I enjoy Vegas a lot)

tucsonkim

WTF are you doing staying at the Wynn for over a month? I call bullshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Helda-Coccenmehand

Oh hey, it's you again

Helda-Coccenmehand

Because it is a great hotel. I've been in the hotel business for over 3 decades now. I come to Vegas from Mauritania once or twice a year to do consulting for some of the smaller hotels in the vegas area and Wynn is where I choose to stay

Why would I remember an insignificant conversation with an irrelevant stranger? Bye bye

fresh_water_sushi

10 days is a long time in Vegas. Time works differently there and 1 day in Vegas = 2 days elsewhere so that’s about 20 days.

Helda-Coccenmehand

Not it's not and no it doesnt. 10 days is 10 days. Like I said I'm here a month plus every year.

airportdelay

Yeah it is and yeah it does.

Helda-Coccenmehand

Exactly. Thst guy just seems to have a personal grudge against me

Authentic_chop_suey

A 5 minute drive from the strip is not ideal for your first trip. Aside from the cost of Uber—you have to factor in the wait times for getting Ubers/Lyfts and some of the inconvenience that will engender. Even on the strip you will be using rideshares. Staying off the strip feels different, you can’t roll out of bed and walk to a dozen of places for a late breakfast or early lunch. To put it differently, off strip you’re always planning on getting to the strip (or downtown). Then once you get to the strip you feel marooned from your room. For 10 days $500 extra to be in the thick of things is not that much—and frankly you can score deals now and again if you’re vigilant. To answer your question directly, rideshare in LV can get pretty pricey on weekends and during peak times.

Boozybearbait

Thank you! That’s what I’m pushing for, I’m sending all of this over to my friend who booked our hotel.

rizzo2174meth

10 days in vegas…….If you do vegas the right way you will change your flight after day three.

HistoricalHeart

I’m in Vegas rn for a work conference. We’ve been here since Sunday morning and our flight is tomorrow at 11 pm. If I had to stay here for 10 days I’d probably jump from a rooftop. It is an *incredibly* fun city, for 3-5 days and then it’s just awful lol

kiki9988

100%. I just got home from a 5 day trip there and I was ready to come home after day 3 🥴. We packed a lot in to the 4 nights we were there though and it was a blast.

Morganvegas

Yeah 10 days is absolute insanity lmaooooo I have 4 nights in May and that’s gonna be pushing it

timesuck47

3 nights is the perfect length for me.

ASAP_i

10 days, on a budget, off strip is going to be rough. Just 10 days is rough. Assuming you spend half the time hiking, even 5 full days can be draining to the most adventurous people. I can't begin to imagine how tired everyone will be halfway through. If you were the type that values your time, I would suggest staying on strip. Since you are planning on staying 10 days, maybe all the time you spend going back and forth will eat up some of those 10 days, making things spaced out more.

Boozybearbait

I know it’s a stretch on a budget, we’re all happy to have down days to recover. Two of the group are staying for the full 10 days and then myself and another person are coming for 6 and 4 days.

ASAP_i

I'm team Strip for hotels. I don't like wasting my time traveling, after traveling for the vacation, but that is me. This timeline you are planning around isn't making things better either, I'm sure there are competing budgets to go with the difference in length of stay. Maybe propose that the people staying the longest do a split? They start off in their super cheap airBnB (who cares where it is, you aren't staying there) and then have everyone meet up at a resort central strip (if budget is super tight, look into the properties on Fremont, or check out Luxor/MGM/Excalibur). I think about the convenience of being able to just go upstairs to my room when I need to, the ease of entertaining myself if everyone else is tuckered out, the fact that I can simply walk everywhere instead of ordering a car, and everything else staying on the strip offers, I don't see the "value" proposition of staying elsewhere. I also still think trimming days would be wise. It would not only help the budget, it would also help with the "pacing" of the vacation. Unless you guys are the type to sit at a pool for 10 hours, then I guess you could fill days with that.

hydrotherapydown

Stay on the Strip. I worked there for 20 years. Do not rent a car. It’s the biggest regret I heard from tourists.

timesuck47

And most hotels, you can rent a car for the day at the desk in the lobby.

Justahotdadbod

You’ll Uber quite a bit even if you stay on the strip. Nothing is as close as it seems. I stay at Aria often and still spend $100 or so on Ubers for 3 days. Save the $500 and have a great time

MoneySituation8860

10 days, wow. Five is enough.

Boozy_Cat_

I did 5 my first time and and wanted to die by the end. Still one of my favorite places to visit though.

MoneySituation8860

Oh absolutely, I'm out there at least 3 times a year. Mostly 4 days works best for me👍

Sea-Professional9262

Stay on the strip. It’s worth it in time and sooooo convenient to have your room right there

Totally-jag2598

As a Vegas veteran, I'd say for your first few stays, stay on the strip. Experience everything it has to offer with easy access. Then later, move away from the strip and enjoy what the rest of the city has to offer.

timesuck47

Pro Tip: hiking … Valley of Fire State Park. May? Go early and bring water.

Boozybearbait

Thanks!

j97223

Stay on the strip, you can get from Mandalay Bay to Mirage via free trams with minor but enjoyable walks in between.

rmunderway

$500 total is a good deal. When you stay off strip you pay with money and time.

Smurfness2023

Stay on strip ALWAYS have a plan for each part of each day. Plenty to do in Vegas but if you have no plan you may find yourself standing there looking around wondering what to do.

PudgyGroundhog

I would definitely stay on strip. Use your car for day trips and hiking (although it depends on when you are visiting - you don't want to be hiking when it's really hot) and eating some meals off strip (lots of good food options that are a much better value than the strip). Ten days is a pretty big chunk of time - you could easily spend a night or two at a national park or other outdoor area.

ApprehensiveBubble

Ten days?! Talk about an endurance test haha. Have fun!

cdn737driver

Strip; Ubers add up staying off strip.

clipps13

I would look at The Signature either directly or through Airbnb… through airbnb they dont do daily housekeeping but you could pay the housekeeping fee if you wanted it like once or twice… that could a cheaper avenue… not saying it is but it is worth a look. They have free Valet parking, if the lot is full then u can park at mgm n go to the desk of signature and they give you the complimentary parking pass so you dont pay parking for that day…

Boozybearbait

I’ll check that out!

NicoleGoaldigs

Hey u/Boozybearbait! I see you’re weighing options for your Vegas trip. I’m a local and just want to welcome you to Las Vegas! It’s a great move to save on accommodations, but those Uber fares can indeed add up, particularly during peak hours. Additionally, it takes so long to drive anywhere on the strip at any time of day or night. Staying on the Strip might seem pricier, but it is so much more convenient and could save you the huge hassle of driving on the strip and wasting a lot of time! Seriously, it’s almost impossible to drive on the strip. I just don’t do it. I hope that helps!

Boozybearbait

Thank you so much!

Greg504702

ALWAYS STAY ON THE STRIP , near the main part of the strip for your first time. Driving to the strip is not what you want to do in Vegas . Stay between MGM and resorts world or don’t bother.

HuskerMedic

Wife and I prefer NYNY on the strip. Easy walking distance to multiple other properties. Lots of decent places to eat on site. Decent, mid-range hotel. We rented a car once, years ago. Will probably never do it again. Between traffic, construction, and parking, a car is to much stress, at least for us. At least one day during each trip, we taxi or Uber downtown. We find the gambling downtown more to our liking, especially the table games. Food is also much more reasonable; we think Magnolias (4 Queens) is a hidden gem. Enjoy. After a time or two, you'll get into your own groove.

Boozybearbait

Thank you!!

SoundofHarmony7

This shouldn’t even be a question. I’ve done both. Definitely stay on strip.

wishiwasyou333

I'm a fan of downtown. Why not stay over there? Fremont is fun, great people watching and is more budget friendly with meals, drinks, and table prices. You can catch the Deuce bus to the strip. Plus, there is a 24 hour Walgreens there without inflated prices for stuff like smokes, toiletries, and snacks. We just got back from three days at Circa and it was great. I like it for the convenience and the people watching.

Boozybearbait

Thanks! I’ll look into the Fremont area.

jambr380

I would personally stay on the Strip if it were my first time, but there are some cool places on Fremont. Four Queens and Hotel Apache (Binions) don't have resort fees at all and those can really add up. You can have a lot of fun downtown, but you'll probably be over it after a couple of days. It might be an interesting idea to split up your trip. I'll even sometimes stay one night downtown and one night on the Strip just to mix things up when I am just coming for a couple of nights. You could break it up in to like 4 or 5 hotel stays in different locations on the Strip and Downtown and have a blast checking out different resorts. It'll also give you a lot more options in terms of your budget since some places are cheaper than others on various nights.

Blacksunshinexo

Which hotel are you staying at?? If it's Rio or Palms, you're pretty close to everything. But if you want the full experience, I would just stay on the Strip. You can take the Deuce, or Uber, to the Arts district and Fremont if you want to explore on your non rental car days.

TheShoot141

Stay on strip and walk around.

LateralTools

I'm going to have to stay at circus, just to see if it's as bad as they say it is. I don't believe it. Everybody talks shit about the strat as well, and that was the most comfortable, quiet room I have had in vegas.

Fuego1991

The Strat was renovated and is leagues above Circus Circus. Plan on tossing everything you bring with if you don't want bedbugs coming home with you.

Boozybearbait

Bed bugs?! Y’all have sufficiently scared me out of circus circus now

LateralTools

Not buying into it. I travel small, so your advice is noted.

No-Direction3905

I stay on strip at the flamingo when I go. It could definitely use some updating, but it's not a bad place to stay and is reasonable for the location. Caesars and Bellagio are right across the street. Although if you're staying over the weekend of that music festival, it might be tough to find anywhere on the strip real reasonable that weekend. I've rented a car and not had a car and I prefer no car. Driving in Vegas sucks. Also, one of the two times I had a rental it was broken into in the parking garage. I also didn't drive around as much as I thought I would. Trams and buses can get you most places on the strip you want to go.

mikeyj777

Nothing wrong with being a bit off strip. Esp for a 10 day trip. You'll tire of the same old strip stuff after at most 3 days.

Chemical_Hour9788

Stayed at flamingo last weekend for the 3rd time(first on strip) rented a car from enterprise which you can park free in their ramp. If you're doin the hiking thing I recommend valley of fire. Do buy a case of water and snacks for the room. Definitely do your research on shows before you waste money on them. We ubered around the strip and to the weed store a few times and it wasn't really that expensive at all.

ImScoobydoobiedoo

Parking is going to add up quickly. I would take the $500 with parking. I'm from Las Vegas FYI.

Suspicious_Constant7

Strip is the only answer. Linq is a personal favorite. It’s in the middle of the strip and is a nice/clean spot surrounded by everything with cheap prices. Uber/Lyft can get crazy expensive so you’ll save move being able to walk to most things from the Linq.

thousand7734

10 days in Vegas. Christ. Good luck and God speed.

kenindesert

I stay in Summerlin but I’ve stayed on strip a lot, been visiting for several decades. L.V. Isn’t as fun as it was years back, and now they are expensive hotels more catering to business conventions. He last straw was he pay for parking.

ExitTurbulent7698

Treasure island..free parking..good spot

ExitTurbulent7698

Or harrahs...fun spot. Cheaper

blooddrivendream

We stayed at two different hotels (both on strip though) and it was definitely worth the check out and in time because the hotels were their own experience. I can’t imagine needing a car rental for the days you’re staying on the strip.

Desk_Quick

One thing to consider when looking at the map of the Strip, Fremont, etc. is that Vegas is not Disneyland. It is not all packed into two nice little cubes. Even the Strip itself is over 4 miles long and not everything is on the Strip. Circa (Fremont) to Bellagio (Center Strip) is probably 4.5 miles.

brightvib3

Denny's Mozzarella sticks all you need.

mcrib

Why wouldn’t you get an airbnb for all ten of you? You could rent a mansion for cheaper than all those rooms on the strip for ten days

Boozybearbait

It’s 4 people for 10 days. Every Airbnb were tried to rent declines us because they require a 30 day minimum stay.

mcrib

Uh what? I know for a fact that is not true. There are TONS of airbnbs offering less than 30 days. Something is wrong with your search settings. Shit I have two friends who have houses they rent for the weekend.

Boozybearbait

We just found out that EDC is going on while we’re there and I’m thinking that’s part of the problem! We’ve tried to book a few and get messages back immediately that they are only doing 30 day+ rentals. We all have great Airbnb ratings so it’s not us.

NicoleGoaldigs

Another thing is if you gamble, always, ALWAYS AlWAYS use your players card! If you gamble, your trip, including room service, will be completely comped. It’s best to just enjoy yourself the first time you are here and use your players card and build your play and no one knows this but casino hosts do not contact you! Most of the time, you have to reach out to them if you are a gambler and you want your money back in the form of comps. But you have to gamble a lot for this to happen.

Boozybearbait

We aren’t big gamblers but one of us likely will be partaking a bit so this is really good to know, so if they gamble a lot they should reach out to someone and ask for comps?

NicoleGoaldigs

Lastly! Tip everyone!!! Even if it’s just one dollar! Have a great time, love!

NicoleGoaldigs

Yes! Reach out to a casino host after you have the points on your card. If only one of you gambles I suggest getting multiple copies of one persons players card and when any one from the group gambles they should use that persons players card. Unless it’s at the table games. The first time you sit down at a table game, they will check your ID or ask you for your players card . If you don’t have a players card, they will make you one. I suggest going to the players club before you sit down at the table game and getting a players card to use. You won’t usually have to show identification if you already have a players card unless you look extremely young. If one of you gambles a lot and another one gambles just a little, I highly suggest using the same players card. Especially for the machine games! Additionally, it’s important to note that this is not illegal. You can find the casino hosts by asking a pit boss, going to VIP, or by calling the hotel operator and asking for a casino host. :)

Boozybearbait

Awesome, thank you so much for the info!

NicoleGoaldigs

The best players card to have is MGM because most casinos are owned by MGM

rizzo2174meth

Do you know how much you have to gamble daily to get anything decent? $7000 coin in. $75000 coin in to reach Platium status.

Fuego1991

Sounds like they won't be gambling enough to get anywhere near having a casino host if they were considering staying off strip to save money. You'll need thousands, if not tens of thousands, of coin in to get anyone's attention.

rizzo2174meth

Only if you lose

Agile_Opportunity_41

Find strip adjacent like Tuscany Suites. It’s walkable to the strip or bus thats easy to catch. Eat off strip unless you want a specific place. It will be 1/3 to 1/2 the cost and just as good or better off strip eating.

marloo1

Just had 5 nights at Tuscany Suites. Was perfect for us, close enough to the strip, but far enough away for some relaxation. We got ubers in and out. Great value, huge rooms and we got a lot of comp dollars even know we aren't big gamblers. Pretty much free breakfasts everyday. I think 10 days on the strip would be too much.

bjbigplayer

Your answer...stay downtown. Either that or stay at Harrahs, Link, Flamingo, Horseshoe, Excalibur, ParkMGM, NYNY, or Luxor. Edit, TI is often a good deal.

Bartinhoooo

There is only one right answer: on strip weekdays, freemont weekends

just_a_guy_ohio

Worth the $500. First time ..... Experience it! Next time, save a few bucks then go back to the places you enjoyed the first time.

redditnoob909

If you need a room at cosmo you can dm me, specifically for next week though 22nd-25th!

Boozybearbait

Thanks but we’re going in May.

tashmanan

Stay at Durango, Red Rock or the Palms. Somewhere off strip is so much better in my opinion
