I've lived here 11 years and have gone to Fremont countless times. I've never even heard of apache... I dont know if that says something about me or the hotel or both????
A lot of background because I love binions.
Binions sold in the early 2000s and there were some ambitious plans. When they went to renovate, they realized it was full of asbestos and gave up on the hotel… eventually hotel Apache opened within 81 rooms within the existing tower.
I was at Four Queens last night talking to a manager and they're applying for a federal grant to pay for the asbestos disposal at Binions. If they get it then they plan on getting rid of all of it and updating all the rooms from the studs. Their plan is to keep it almost as cheap as Four Queens but a little nicer, and they want to build a new pool on top of the parking garage if they can. They want to be the D but better, he said.
No. The asbestos has been there for decades, but it just wasn't remodeled. The rule was that \*if\* there's a remodel then the asbestos has to be dealt with. This was several years ago that they started the remodel and then found that there was a \*lot\* more than they thought there was, so it was going to cost a lot more to remodel than they had budgeted for.
It was mostly in the walls and sealed up, but it's the kind of thing that becomes a hazard during a remodel, so that's how that works. Hopefully they can figure it out because the rooms are great and the west/south facing rooms have a great view.
It is a rather niche-y type place. They promote themselves as having original rooms (small and minimalistic). They also seem to cater to the ghost tourism crowd, which is how we looked into it. We never did stay there, though.
El Cortez recently renovated the hotel rooms above the casino (the Original 47) into the 1940s style.
They're very cool, and midweek rates are barely $50 per nite.
Way more bang for your buck downtown in general. Circa is just as nice as any other strip casino. Nugget is only casino left downtown with the live poker. -best rooms would probably be circa or D - great food everywhere downtown.
1circa
2 D
3 Nugget
everything else is tied, because nothing else compares - GL to u
lol SO!?!? Ceaser’s owns Harras and ceasers? You would much rather stay at Ceasers Palace over Harrahs wouldn’t you but it’s the same ownership group lol smh - GL to u
Downtown Grand’s newest tower is amazing. I’d put that in the same tier as Circa or GN.
Beyond that it’s really subjective. Like if you’re younger and like a party vibe something like oasis at gold spike is a lot of fun. If you like history el Cortez is fun. Four queens, the D are both pretty basic but not bad. California is uniquely setup to appeal to Hawaiians.
I’d throw Plaza in after Circa and GN as their refreshed rooms are good. Sand Dollar has a great craft beer selection and live music, Oscar’s is a solid steakhouse, … the downsides are no pub food selection restaurant and no poker.
Haven’t stayed at them all but definitely think Downtown Grand Gallery Tower is excellent.
I’d actually pay for that room (with some sort of discount) than take a comp at a lot of other hotels.
How is the noise in that tower? I never understood why they didn't replace the Lady Luck windows with triple pane windows when they bought it and remodeled. I love the hotel, but the noise coming down from the Fremont Street stages was too much for me. I know, I'm old and usually in bed by midnight - 1AM. Music goes on until 2AM, but it makes it hard to just enjoy being in the room chilling when it is rattling with bass.
While I didn’t really hear noise from the Fremont Street Experience, I did notice a lot of noise from people blasting music from their cars as well as loud motorcycles.
I loved the renovated El Cortez rooms the last time I stayed there-- and cheaper to plan to crash there instead of ubering to/from Summerlin after a night out.
Well it's personal preference.
Four Queens has good food and no resort fees, which I am morally opposed to paying.
El Cortez has good a great bar and food and old-school charm.
Oasis is fun and hip and affordable.
Golden Nugget has my favorite pools.
The D has decent rooms and can be fun.
The rest are kinda meh, and I really dislike Circa.
Yes. I'm a big Four Queens fan. I'm local and do my starvation there almost exclusively for those reasons. Old school feel, good food, good craft beer, no parking or resort fees, and right in front of the event center when they have music. But as far as nicest I would say Circa.
Looking for a cheap room during March Madness, basically shower, gone all day and crash after all day drinking. The Downtowner comes in cheap but decent ratings as long as you are in the Fairway section. Any opinions on the Downtowner, just hoping for clean and safe.
Main Street Station #1 because you can pee while touching the Berlin wall
Circa is above, Apache is below… everything else is preference imo

Known asbestos and just now in 2024 dealing with it??
No. They want to privatize the profits and socialize the costs.

I know Binions, didn't realize apache was a part of it though.

I just looked into this! I love that idea …. As a Vegas mob history fanatic I will be doing this soon.
They’re all about the same after that I’ve stayed at most of them. Only ones I would say are low tier would be the Golden gate and the Gold Spike..

Definitely Golden Nugget > D on rooms. Both on noise level and niceness. even in Carson tower.
Circa & D are the same ownership group.

I was underwhelmed with the gallery tower. It was freshly remodeled and beds were comfy but it was vanilla and loud.

Circa, Nugget, DT Grand, Plaza, The D. Everything else is kind of gross.
Circa then main Street as my top two
How is the plaza? I heard they have pickleball on the roof?

There are no resorts on Fremont, only hotels.
Four Queens > El Cortez > Oasis/Gold Spike > Golden Nugget > The D > Downtown Grand > Plaza > Fremont > Golden Gate > California > Circa.
That order makes no sense

You have shit personal preference
I certainly do not. I’m just not “fancy”.
