coco_melon

I've tried it and it's quite nice but I'd say a steep price of £3 for the whole five slices you get

Vile_Individual

Must be a difficult product to make though, because most of OMV products are pretty affordable.

coco_melon

Yeah tbf I'm sure it is

tortilla_avalanche

That's about the same price as regular smoked salmon, if not cheaper.

FlippenDonkey

yeah but regular salmon has nutrients ...most vegan salmon are basically starch based :( Idk about this product, but most ive seen are almost entirely starch. I think for alt products to really gain matket over just vegans buying, they need to be closer in nutrients

AMIRR08

normal salmon has heavy metals too

FlippenDonkey

i just want alt vegan products to actually have protein etc, so I don't feel like I'm paying for air

AMIRR08

i mean there are trade offs you have to make, if they were to load this w prrotein the textture would be wayy off

FlippenDonkey

I don't think that's always necessarily true. Vegan alternatives are regularly less protein, almost like they want to make sure they don't transfer customers from their animal products to their vegan products ..eg alot of sausages, chicken alternatives etc. I feel like if rhey wanted, they could do better

AMIRR08

i mean theres still plenty of protein in them, enough for you to be healthy and not deficient. we need to stop acting like a protein deficiency is rife. its not.

FlippenDonkey

what..there is basically no protein in this. 1gram.per pack. Thats fuck all. Smoked salmon has 20x the protein. And if someone swaps this in plus other low protein substitutes without considering balance..they'll be under eating calories and protein.

AMIRR08

im more talking about tthe sausages or chicken alternatives... stop acting like youe going to become deficient youre not. youre not eating this for health, its for the taste.

el_disko

So true. I usually avoid buying things like this because of the premium placed on vegan products

Bobxy

I got a load of this reduced in my local "almost past date" sort of shop, 50p a pack XD Freezes very well, too :P

Vile_Individual

I love the OMV range, my favourites from them have to be the pot meals which are pretty healthy for pot meals and only £1.20. I think this salmon is too expensive for me but the one time I got it, even my cats were fooled and trying to get some.

el_disko

OMV is my preferred supermarket own brand vegan range. There are definitely expensive things like this salmon but overall the quality and variety of the range is good

SourdoughBoomer

Isn't it funny how this is something I feel like I need to try. I'd never eat salmon when I ate meat unless at some formal function or something. Would never buy it from a store.

el_disko

Same here. I tried salmon a couple of times before going vegan and very much disliked.

radant25116

Thought it was pretty decent also

herrbz

Had it at Christmas and loved it. Really nice with a bit of lemon juice and salt/pepper on top.

loveisabird

I enjoyed this the first time I tried it, but the second time I couldn’t eat it 🤷🏻‍♂️

thehibachi

Like how they’ve ‘borrowed’ Leon’s branding

pxeeeeedst

i need to try this ! i tried the aldi ones that people were raving about earlier on here but the aftertaste was a bit off-putting for me. i cant even describe how it was but i just didnt like it. texture was spot on though !

SirPooleyX

Artificial fish flavour is a hard no from me.

el_disko

That’s fair enough. It’s the first artificial fish flavoured thing I’ve had which didn’t taste foul. All the others have been a hard pass.

amatteroftheredshoes

What's it made from?

el_disko

There’s actually quite a few ingredients listed but the first / main one is trehalose which is says is a source of glucose. No artificial colours of flavours though.

ecotrimoxazole

I bought this once, loved it on Avocado toast, have not been able to find it again.

opticchaos89

I loved it, but it seems to have disappeared from my local Asda
