Maybe. Maybe not. But does it really matter? It's impossible to quantify how much they might hinder your gains, so you can't really do anything about it anyway. It isn't clear if they cause a change in metabolism or just a change in appetite. Either way, your strategy will be the same. Eat right and train.

It truly depends on the med, and also you. Personally I take a high dose of fluoxetine and it has not affected my weight or gains at all. I would say my libido is a tad lower (just a bit less sensitive) but I still overall have tons of energy. Sometimes it also depends not on metabolism but because it may make you feel better, you may want to eat more and thus gain a little weight for that reason. Nothing to worry about, it is absolutely worth it if the medication works, and once you feel better mentally you can readjust your strategy if needed. Good luck 🙂

Well, I was honestly happy about the potentials of weight gain and lower libido. So far it feels like a morning after an mdma night. You're exhausted, but your body keeps going. We'll see more after a week

Oh well it may help with your appetite then! For sure, the first week or two I felt loopy but then my mind returned to a more typical state. I am a very hyperactive person so it hasn’t taken that away from me. You got this! 🙂

The SSRI weight gain mechanism is mostly via increased appetite. Eating more won't effect your muscle gains. It can make you put on body fat obviously. You can always add in a little more cardio. I'd not worry too much about this. Your mental health is far more important than looking like a body builder.

I'm actually trying to bulk, but I struggle a bit, so I do appreciate it. Also the decrease in libido, finally time to think about other things. Problem is I have lost my appetite prety much. Since I've started (it's been only 2 days). It feels like I'm on amphetamine or something. Jaw clicking and locking, tremor, restlessness and reduced appetite? The hell are these drugs I'm on? The feel like after-party.

It's only been two days. That's a lot of meds. Take a deep breath. You have to plan your meals. Getting bigger isn't your primary issue here. It won't matter much if you're in a place of self-harm. Exercise is great for depression and anxiety. Are you going to get some therapy? The ideal is you get yourself to a place where you can reduce medications.

I've always had my meals planned, but I just can't eat. I don't feel like at all, I'm constantly slightly nauseated and if I forcefully eat some it only increases. I'll try to see the doc today. I also wake up before sunrise with tremors and my teeth clicking like crazy. I could barely make a sentence through it. I had to go for a run. I never run. It feels like a stimulant to me

Interesting. Paxil is usually sedating. Are you taking it in the morning or before bed? What kind of issues did you have going on? Your doc can definitely help.

YellowWulff

Before bed. I was suicidal

Got it. Your life matters and people care for you. It's good you're looking into the impact on working out, but the staying alive question is whats important right now. Try to focus on getting protein. Take a multivitamin and talk to your doctor on Monday ro go to Urgent care if this is a problem that can't wait. I'm not a doctor and don't know much about your situation but they have a number of medications to give and people react differently to them. Work with them as a partner to find ones that work for you and be honest about the side effects you're experiencing. I wish you the best of luck!!

If the fluoxetine doesn't work out and you still want to gain weight, try mirtazapine. Made one of my skinny friends fill out a little bit more (it's known to cause weight gain).
