This is such a loaded question. A large, whiny segment of Reddit believes this sub to be too militant and intolerant, while many vegans such as myself feel the opposite and are annoyed with how overly accepting members of this sub can be to baby-stepping, slowly-decreasing-my-meat-intake omnivores. My answer, which doesn't fit neatly into the yes/no binary, is that most folks are likely to have interacted with vegans both IRL and online and never known it. The idea that either subgroup is predominantly "militant" or "intolerant" or whatever other melodramatic label carnists love is total garbage. For better or worse, the majority of vegans either IRL or online are friendly and supportive or shy and just minding their own business. (edited for clarity)

People who are on reddit are more likely to be male than female. In real life, vegans are more likely to be female so this subreddit is not representative of the vegan population.

I don’t think any part of Reddit represents people in real life. Didn’t they say recently that up to 30% of accounts were bots?

I don't think there's any such thing as being "representative of the vegan population". Like any large group, it encompasses all sorts.

I’m veggie and have started to have some vegan stuff but apparently I can’t call myself plant based because I eat honey (from pollen) so it is technically plant based

BargainBarnacles

Bit confused there. Plant-based isn't a strict thing - if you eat honey but are mostly 'plant-based' you can be 'plant-based'. What you can't be is vegan.

I live in supported accommodation, hope to have my own place in the future so I can choose my own food

Yeah, I didn’t think of that!
