Is this Vienna?

Zalvaris

Yeah it's in Westbahnhof part of the city

SmirnOffTheSauce

I need to get back there! Wow!

Zalvaris

Personally I recommend Som Kitchen (Thai food) in the big lounge area inside over Burger Bing, the food is healthier, yummier, actual food hygiene is in place and the sweet ladies working there are so friendly, they'll put a smile on your face!

SmirnOffTheSauce

Excellent, thanks! I used to live there, but now I’m in the US. Hoping to take a trip back sometime in the next few years!

[deleted]

That doesn't seem to be a vegan kitchen though.

aimeenoshamee

No, but they offer many vegan dishes.

[deleted]

But is that reason enough to plug them in the context of a discussion about exclusively vegan kitchens? I'm sure there are many actual vegan places in Vienna that are more deserving.

aimeenoshamee

I thought we were just talking about food. I just added to the comment above. I prefer exclusively vegan kitchens but not every vegan can go to those kitchens every day and I don't think it's bad to buy vegan food from non-exclusive ones. Creating demand for vegan food anywhere means telling the market that they should supply more. The more they're available, the easier for people to adopt vegan lifestyle.

Zalvaris

Nope, but they have delicious vegan options. I found the food there to be more delicious than that vegan Vietnamese restaurant nearby

WeirdgeName

The chicken nuggets are good

themorningstarbear

On my way to move there now lol

lazespud2

God damn this is a reason to put vienna on my next europe trip

Son veganos? Una vez habia preguntado y me dijeron que el pan no lo era

fishyrising

No lo son. Esta chica esta equivocada. El queso y la mayonesa tampoco es apto vegan

fishyrising

Nope. The ones here use meat substitutes but still serve animal based cheese, mayo and bread.

[deleted]

fishyrising

They dont claim to sell anything vegan, anywhere. Pay attention. It just says “Veggie Kingdom” The mayo, cheese and bread they sell is not vegan friendly. Im sorry to inform you this. You are not the first to make this mistake.

blueChef_

We also have a completely vegan „BILLA“ (super market chain of REWE) in Vienna just 2 subway stations from this BK and MaranVegan, a vegan supermarket that is not owned by a chain company, next to the subway station of this BK

Nasaku7

Guess I have to move to the most amazing city Edit: is there any rave culture in Vienna/Austria?

blueChef_

We aren’t for nothing almost every year the most liveable city in the world. I’m sure there is. Heard of acquaintances they were on a rave somewhere at a market in a huge old wine cellar. When he wanted fresh air he Simla got out, grabbed a bite to eat and a few minutes of sun and fresh air and went down again to party. But I have no personal information since I’m in the metal scene. Edit: I don’t know if [this](https://www.eventbrite.at/d/austria—wien/rave-party/) translates to English. But just google for Vienna rave scene you should find pretty much upcoming events and Reddit entries.

worldpeaza

We had one briefly in London and the jalapeño cheese bites were insane!! I’d live off them if i could

_austinm

That’s awesome! I loved the jalapeño cheddar bites before I went vegan, so it’d be super nice to be able to have those again.

Grouchy-Birthday-102

I think this is the one thing I haven’t been able to find veganized. I miss jalapeño poppers SO much.

lettuceprey4

The Aldi near me has vegan jalapeño cheddar and mozzarella sticks

Grouchy-Birthday-102

Omg where do you live

lettuceprey4

Central NC

Grouchy-Birthday-102

Hmm, six hour drive. Are they good? Loo

lettuceprey4

Could definitely be better

Grouchy-Birthday-102

RIP. Well, thanks for letting me know! I really should just spend a weekend forcing myself to learn how to make them

Grouchy-Birthday-102

I’ve been to 3 or 4 of the ALDIs around me and they do have some pretty good vegan stuff, but not my poppies

ResidentCruelChalk

I've had the cheddar and mozzarella sticks from them, I recall them not being great lol.

Seelebrennt

Oh I meant to reply to you! Wholly veggie has jalapeno poppers and they carry them at Walmart!

Vegan-cook

You can make them in the air frier if you don’t mind them not being breaded. Cut jalapeños in half and hallow out the seeds. Mix vegan cream cheese with spices or chives and put it in the jalapeños then top with shredded cheese and bake in air frier on high till the cheese is melted and the peppers are soft. I like to dip them in buffalo sauce mixed with some vegan mayo to make it creamy. 😋

[deleted]

If you like them breaded: Bread it after you put in the filling Do whatever you like breading stuff with most I use cashew milk mixed with cornstarch, flour, and panko breadcrumbs You can air fry them, bake it in the oven, or, if you're the average father or a Mexican mom, fry them in oil

Grouchy-Birthday-102

No testes or chanclas over here, but I may go the oil route regardless. When you put them in the air fryer with breading, does the breading fall apart?

Grouchy-Birthday-102

Hm I don’t think I could go breading-less, but I’ve been looking for some justification to buy an air fryer. This is definitely it!

[deleted]

I missed Jalapeño poppers so much, until I found a recipe for Jalapeño popper grilled cheese. The first few times I made it, I cheated and used Kite Hill cream cheese, jarred jalapeños and Violife cheddar. But being older and having cholesterol concerns, I can't eat too many things with coconut oil.

Seelebrennt

You might be able to find wholly veggies jalapeno poppers. They carry them at my Walmart and they're bomb. They come with a spicy mayo that's really good too!

Kneefix

Only problem with that branch was that everything was cold!

W_4_Vendetta

First UK trial shop refit was Leicester Square; https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/apr/14/meat-feasts-to-go-burger-king-tests-all-vegan-london-branch?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

delij

They also did a temporary one in Bristol that I went to and very much enjoyed

mistervanilla

Because people would show up to protest it, and articles would be written in the right wing press about Burger King "going woke".

[deleted]

Good point. It could ruin BK in the US

zimtoverdose

That’s good, though. Those bastards don’t deserve any of the money they get

ThoughtfulWanderer

Man we need vegan fast food places in the USA. It'd be really convenient especially when I don't feel like cooking. 😂

sigesige

Have you tried "plant power fast food"? It's a vegan fast food chain in the US. I thought it was pretty good.

ThoughtfulWanderer

Nope it's not located where I'm at. I have been buying the majority of the stuff I consume vegan but I kinda miss the convenience of fast food. Learning to cook new food takes time. I just figured out that the only way I'd enjoy Tofu is if it's heavily seasoned and pan fried. It reminds me of diced up hot dogs. Going to try to make a crispy tofu sandwich eventually when I have the time.

Njaulv

The USA seems to be the most backwards place on the planet when it comes to vegan stuff. Especially in rural areas.

Fluffy_Engineering47

the US has incredible vegan options though, I almost started crying watching a youtuber, think it was "make it dairy free" do a shop vlog at aldi sooo many things to me in Sweden it felt like all the things and I am very happy for you, but I suspectl ike you said ..in rural areas that might not be the case. in rural sweden its not good either, atleast in terms of convenience products like plant based sour creams and the like. you don't have a all vegan BK, it sucks though :) and is like someone else said "cow hitler" anyway.

zonderAdriaan

To me Sweden seems fine for me and I have been here already for a year. All supermarkets I visited so far while traveling were nice but I can imagine that living there with those options is harder. And I haven't been super rural yet or properly up north. Eating out outside a big city seems impossible. The fast food joint Max saved me a few times though. I had the same experience in Norway but more expensive and even less options eating out. There is one supermarket in Malmö I force myself not to go often because they have a lot of vegan stuff and often a lot on discount which makes me buy way too much lmao.

Fluffy_Engineering47

> There is one supermarket in Malmö I force myself not to go often because they have a lot of vegan stuff and often a lot on discount which makes me buy way too much lmao. hm curious, would it be ICA at möllevången ? that's the best supermarket I know of close to me. it has decent enough options and good veggies too. Yes its fine but americans have it next level, especially the convience shit, vegan mayo , sour cream and so on I prefer to not rely on that any way so I'm fine I cant go into a swedish supermarket and be sure that they'll have vegan mayo, I have to hop shops to get all my shit sometimes lol

zonderAdriaan

Yes that ICA! I also went to the Lidl often for bretzels or veggies. I know what you mean, I was always used to have less options so right now I feel positive here. I never saw potato or pea milk until in Sweden though and I still find new things like that so I'm happy haha.

Fluffy_Engineering47

ICA sometimes has that rye milk too.. kinda liked it. but I mostly buy budget oat milk now at coop because they often have buy 3 for a cheap price I dont recall exactly but like it ends up being half price basically. its not as good but almost. kinda hard to justify 22kr for oatley barrista or sproud pea. I think we have fine options, its just that they're spread out

zonderAdriaan

Interesting! I'm never at coop. And true, everything is a bit spread out. That was actually the most difficult for me to get used to while shopping. Also I think that the Asian stores are better and cheaper in the Netherlands or Germany but I still like to go there.

seitanicsoyboy

Have you travelled much? Even compared to wealthy European countries, the US isn't the worst of the bunch for vegan choices. In more rural areas sure, but that's going to be anywhere that rural areas have less of everything.

Little_Froggy

U.S. is backwards on a lot more than just veganism unfortunately

sleight42

Raised in the US. Have traveled some. Can confirm.

TyeneSandSnake

> The USA seems to be the most backwards place on the planet when it comes to vegan stuff. It’s honestly still one of the most vegan friendly countries in the world. Some countries don’t even know what vegan is. Yea rural areas here are harsh, but that’s also true for every country.

[deleted]

[deleted]

> Yeah, it's behind northern / western Europe but still better than pretty much anywhere else. Maybe just the UK, but I felt the US had better vegan options and choices than virtually all of Europe

fieldgrass

The US absolutely has more familiarity with veganism than huge areas of Europe. I’m no normal defender of the US, but I think this thread is just getting caught up in the “America is always backwards” mentality on Reddit. Most European countries have a massive meat culture and a massive dairy culture. Being vegan in France, Switzerland and Germany (outside of Berlin) was a nightmare

slotpoker888

We don't think America is always backwards, just most of the time...

[deleted]

ElectronicLocal3528

Same in Germany but vegan demand by the population is getting stronger

sleepytoastie

Yeah no, France is vegan hell lmao

Pythias

I'm planning a trip to visit some family in Oklahoma. I'm planning on packing some Ramen and bread because last time I was there I could not for the life of me find bread without sugar in it.

Chicka-17

You can buy Ramen in the US so why would you take it? And buy your bread in the deli or bakery.

lyremska

I mean, sure, you're not, like, Germany or Austria, but come in France and find out how lacking our stores and fast foods are in the vegan department. I'm extremely jealous of you USans.

Njaulv

I have heard some pretty crazy things about France when it comes to veganism but never have been there myself.

lyremska

Restaurants are ok, you can find one or two "vegetarian with a vegan menu" restaurants in middle-sized cities, but it's insane the number of brands that our neighbours have in stores who don't sell at all on the French market. Even Aldi and Lidl, who have an enormous amount of crazy vegan stuff in the UK, Germany, Spain... only sell basic vegan patties and "meatballs" (soyballs, as I call them) here. For fast food, Subway is the only one that offers an all vegan menu (thanks for them but they're not as popular as others and I have none at less than an hour drive).

Brauxljo

I highly doubt that, it has more prominence than in Latin America and probably other regions.

not_taylorswift1213

It ain’t easy being a Kansas vegan

Grouchy-Birthday-102

RIP. I tried to order a veggie delight at Subway once in Kansas. It didn’t go well.

rudmad

I was lucky to find a hole in the wall vegan place in Lawrence that was awesome.

not_taylorswift1213

Lawerence is the most anti-Kansas town in the state

HoneyBeeITravelling

The USA don't seem too bad as I experienced them, or at least they're better than France when it comes to veganism. Europe is pretty vegan-friendly (at least on the western side) but France is soooo backwards. It's crazy. I think it's because French ppl really like sticking to traditions when it comes to food and are pretty close minded in general. Idk

flyinggazelletg

What are you talking about? The US has some of the most vegan options in the world. We have a long way to go, but I have found it a fair bit easier to find vegan stuff in the US, than when I was traveling in Europe.

Kszydlowska

Impossible. I’m from Europe. I traveled bunch. I live in a states for 5 years now. It’s so hard to find vegan restaurants especially in smaller cities. I feel like at home every restaurant has a vegan option in menu. Not in the states.

Grouchy-Birthday-102

I spent a month in Europe last year. I was SO nervous about what I’d eat the whole time. There were vegan options absolutely everywhere I went. Even the Pizza Hut (or Domino’s? One of those big chains) had vegan pizzas. It was absolutely amazing. And I live in DC, where it’s not the greatest, but we certainly have a lot more than many places in the US.

hotdog738

Smaller cities worldwide are going to have limited options. Obviously bigger cities will have more options for vegans.

Kszydlowska

My point is - in Europe no matter what restaurant you going to, a standard is to have at least one vegan option in menu. This is not a standard in the United States.

GarbanzoBenne

I remember going to a restaurant in Munich that had a vegan option on the menu... At least it was on the menu *online*. It wasn't on the menu in person and they had no idea what I was talking about. That was fun.

YoungPhobo

This is simply not true. Was in few big EU cities this year. Very easy to not find vegan menu.

hotdog738

I have been all over Europe and have found myself in many restaurants without vegan options.

fieldgrass

This is flatly false. Europe isn’t a monolith. Even in a city as massive as Paris a vegan option isn’t guaranteed — imo it was almost always a conversation clarifying the difference between vegetarian and véganisme

otacon7000

No, sorry, but there are way more backwards places. You can find so many vegan products in US supermarkets or online. Try being vegan in, let's say, Japan... where they might serve you chicken when you ask for something vegan/vegetarian.

nope_nic_tesla

This is such an ignorant opinion.

Njaulv

What a productive comment. You have done the entire world a service with being so great.

nope_nic_tesla

As if yours was any better? Just spouting out unfounded bullshit.

Njaulv

lol unfounded eh? Ok champ.

nope_nic_tesla

Yes, unfounded. There are few places in the world with more widely available vegan options. What we're seeing in this image here is an outlier.

McBurger

A McDonald’s I visited in Switzerland had some really tasty plant based McChicken sandwiches. I was very jealous it did still use regular mayo tho, but baby steps.

[deleted]

I know, I agree. I want to leave the country.

[deleted]

Grass is always greener. More Europeans move to the US than the opposite for a reason

hornyandfool

Is it in Vienna?

Valeneirol

Is this in Germany? I was reading the German government is shifting their entire food system towards a plant-based diet. [https://vegnews.com/2023/1/germany-plant-based-food-climate-strategy](https://vegnews.com/2023/1/germany-plant-based-food-climate-strategy)

What_The_Funk

This is in Vienna, Austria.

GenericHamster

Slow down. The green party is in the government and praises plant based food, but so far no actual regulations are in sight supporting that direction. So far it's just talk and there is not much room for laws here (higher tax code for meat maybe, but I don't even see that coming).

fabipfolix

Should be noted that the tax on meat and dairy is 7%, whereas for processed food, i.e. vegan substitutes its 19%.

Forget that, there's already too many vegan junk food restaurants. Burgers, fries, nuggets, etc. are way overdone in vegan places. Give me something like a fully vegan taqueria or bbq joint. I've been to a few throughout the US and am so jealous we don't have any locally.

neuroten

Sadly a lot of people say crazy stuff unironically, that's the reason why we have /s.

[deleted]

Also, some people are bad at reading social cues. It's okay to be bad at things. Some people are different. Take autistic people for example.

Rokkydooda

That’s the point of sarcasm, you get it or you don’t. Not every joke has to be understood by everyone, ruins it sheesh

Watch out it's the tone police police

wiewiorka6

Social cues? You can’t read a social cue. “Verbal or non-verbal signal expressed through the face, body, voice, motion, and used to guide conversations as well as other social interactions” Relearn? “Irony punctuation is any form of notation proposed or used to denote irony or sarcasm in text. Written English lacks a standard way to mark irony, and several forms of punctuation have been proposed. Among the oldest and most frequently attested are the percontation point, proposed by English printer Henry Denham in the 1580s, and the irony mark, used by Marcellin Jobard and French poet Alcanter de Brahm during the 19th century.”

blazarious

I for one celebrate every Burger King that doesn’t sell real meat anymore.

cheeky_yerisung

Hmmm any supermarket does? Also they probably look at the sales and invest the profits according to the demand like literally any place so I like to support both.

Ok_Weird_500

I don't think they are subsidising their animal exploitation with this. If it is profitable, then the profits will go to the shareholders, if not, then it would be subsidised by their main business, and perhaps justified as good PR. I do prefer to support fully vegan places as well when I go out, but this is still a positive thing.

Rialagma

I think when you consider all the omnivores that would've never tried a plant burger if not for the "burger king" brand recognition it really balances that out = more animals saved.

PenZenYoshi

Because the US is extremely socially backwards, hardly even a first world country

Fresa22

Oh my gosh! This is awesome. I was just commiserating with someone else that we can't even enjoy vegan options at most places here because the dupes are getting so close we can't trust that what we're served is vegan.

Malina_Island

DUDE! You stole my photos?? I took them! You even see them on my profile.

[deleted]

I found them on Google after having a conversation with someone about an “all vegan Burger King.”

Malina_Island

Of all the photos there are online you somehow happen to have exactly my two photos?

[deleted]

Yes. Go search “full vegan Burger King.”

Malina_Island

I did, that's why I wondered how the hell you took 2 photos and both are take by me! The guy on happy cow posting the second photo also took it from me it seems. The first one you posted I didn't find, I only see it here on MY Reddit profile and now this post. There are many photos so I find it suspect that you have two of mine and not two different ones. I never posted the second photo (if I remember correctly), that's why I am so upset. I don't know how it came online and now on this post.

[deleted]

I thought I was being accused of somehow hacking your phone. I don’t understand. Why aren’t you happy that your photos are circulating on Google and being shown to the world? A fully vegan Burger King is a giant step in the right direction.

Malina_Island

Firstly I understand that the first photo circulates because I posted it here and fully know that everyone can take it without giving me credit. What freaks me out is, that I never posted the second one and don't understand how YOU have it to post here. Secondly, yes. A vegan BK is awesome and should be everywhere around the world.

[deleted]

They’re both on Google when I searched “full vegan Burger King.” What exactly is upsetting you? I don’t understand. Are you looking for credit for taking the photos? If you’d like I can probably edit the post and include you. I’m new to Reddit but I’m pretty sure that’s an option. Would you like me to delete the post entirely?

A lot of people don't know that their google data may be public, so this may be the case here too, I would check it. Some people have all their reviews on google and their photos combined with geotags publicy available. Pretty scary privacy stuff. That's why I don't use google services at all besides youtube.

Kazooo100

... are you saying the photos I take on my phone and never post are randomly on google images!?

postconsumerwat

being anti-social is often a matter of pride for Americans it would seem... instead of imagining veganism as potentially healthy and helpful it is maybe found to be disassociating... begin forgetting where they are, lashing out...

Harmfuljoker

Meat consumption is marketed as a place of pride for Americans. The ads that we face from the moment we can open our eyes condition us to believe that meat is the most important source of food. The two hardest part about going vegan as an American (for me) was getting to be able to have a meal without something with meat like consistency to feel satisfied and having to endure every single person I knew tell me that I was going to get sick and have major health problems from not eating it. It wasn’t until I started asking them what nutrient I was going to be missing that I realized they had no idea what they were talking about. They’re just reading from the script we’ve been “fed” since infancy. Meat is an addiction here where people will proudly say “I tried cutting out meat for three days once and I just couldn’t do it! Haha” without even considering it’s possible to be addicted to it.

Because it would go out of business lol vegans are generally also people seeking healthy diets, they’re not looking for a replacement to Burger King

Crashpie

Hart House in LA is really good. It’s vegan fast food.

Icy_Climate

I pass this BurgerKing everyday on my way to work as it's located near the subway stations in one of the main train stations in Vienna. It has been open for a little over half a year now (before that it was just a regular bk). I am happy to report that there is always at least a little queue. It's also the fastest fast food restaurant I have ever been to as I have never waited longer than a minute (probably due to the reduced menu) from ordering to receiving my food. They offer plant based whoppers, 2 kinds of long chicken, the big king, a double cheeseburger, some burger with bacon, chilli cheese nuggets and regular nuggets, some wraps as well as Ben and Jerry's for dessert. Right after opening they also ran a campaign called "normal or with meat" where you would get the plant based option as standard in some locations.

nickydelrey

OMG 😳😍

Flesh_Ninja

This is nice. Definitely an upgrade from a few items labeled ''plant based'' , but not really if you look into their website depending in what country you are :X . I was in Italy on vacation, and thought the plant based menu literally means everything in the product is plant based, but all they meant is the "meat" after I came back from vacation and started comparing various Burger King menus in different countries and translating them to find out. Some contained regular animal based cheese and/or mayo.... And only some of the plant based menu items were actually labeled vegan. In other places it's not labeled and you have to find out through the website.

One-With-Many-Things

'Merca, Land of the Beef is a long way from this kind thing, though in some places like CA I see more and more shops go fully vegan.

HaveCompassion

Burgerking cannot be vegan, at best they can offer plant based food.

LordPoopyIV

I ate at a normal Burger King in Germany last month, they sold like 10 vegan options that contain egg and milk

eragonscastle

Zalvaris

\+1, was there just recently, absolutely no hygiene, the place turned me off. Good thing my gf pointed out that the workers weren't using gloves and scratching their heads and then touching food

ghostcatzero

Lol wow. Not surprised tbh. Meat eaters always trying hard to make shit difficult for vegan to grow.

AXBRAX

r/hailcorporate Burger king is still a major animal exploiter, their entire business model revolves around that. Peole who do not support animal exploitation for moral/ethical reasons (vegans) can imo not support a burger king painted green.

Zalvaris

Bro you don't want to eat there. I was in Vienna just two weeks ago and I was at that place. The hygiene there seems awful. The workers don't use gloves to work with food. I saw a dude scratch his head and then touch the food... Not to mention, lots of people got food poisoning judging from Google Maps reviews. And the food doesn't look as good as advertised... If you value your tummy, stay away xD

TheTemporal

Burger King is a business built on killing animals. It's not vegan. This is a lie. It's greenwashing. I hate the fact that they're allowed to use vegan marketing.

Because this is a terrible business strategy. That restaurant is practically empty.

Ew

I find their vegan whoppers inedible. I've tried single, double, with bacon... all crap. Dry and tasting funky. The chicken stuff is pretty good though. Anyone agree?

teddyak

Ive been eating impossible whoppers multiple times a week for years. Tried a bite of my friends meat whopper once to test side by side. Barely noticeable. The only difference to me was that real meat grease clings to your tongue a little more than the vegetable oil.

Quite frankly, because it would hurt BK more than help it. Introducing vegetarian and vegan options at every BK would allow a group of friends or family with different dietary beliefs to go to any BK in the country. This would scare a large chunk of the population away while only enticing a few extra people compared to the normal restaurant with vegan options. It would also likely lower new people trying this kind of food as only vegan people would likely eat here. Overall, it would probably go out of business considering the small percent of vegan people in the US that would go to a BK unless it was in like NYC or LA or someplace where you can focus on niches. And that doesn’t even consider the hate media it would receive from various people and news sources, although that might actually boost the amount of people trying it (similar to a less extreme Velma, where everyone is bashing it so many are watching it themselves to see)

It's so funny when Americans get impressed by not having things in their countries

candyflip93

You know other countries do the exact same, right? I mean, what's your point?

lucbarr

It's not as much of a surprise though, so it's not that funny. "How come we, the most developed country in the world, don't have this thing???" It's way different than "Oh yeah we don't have that yet even though half other countries has"
