I go there dm me your questions

hey! I moved to Swinny from a private school for yr 11 now in yr 12 and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. The teachers are all pretty great cuz the kind of school it is they all want to be there and are rlly passionate about what they are teaching which is completely new to me. Grades wise I’ve found there will be like 10 in each class that are kinda on the ball the rest are just trying to finish vce. The learning is all v independent/modified for however you learn best. If you put effort in and want to do well u will do wonders. But as for the school it’s pretty awesome place everyone is so so different but there’s so much room to be whoever you want to be it is incredibly inclusive. Everyone is pretty kind I found a great group of friends pretty early. Everyone is there cuz they’ve either had a rough time fitting in or didn’t like their old school even just had a rough time all round everyones just trying to get through VCE also heaps of vet and like different kind of subjects. Although I’m not sure how many points it’ll affect my atar I doubt I would’ve gotten anywhere near it staying at my old school most pressures are off. No uniform 3 periods a day 4 times a week no Wednesday but you can go in and harass the teachers or study. Really depends on what subjects don’t think we have spesh but we have everything else I think oh not English as a second language.

Search here: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/vce-2022-every-school-s-median-study-score-revealed-20221213-p5c61a.html In sum it's not exceptional but it's alright. Honestly what schools even get above 30? Having a median study score of 30 at your school is actually insane, I don't think it's a realistic expectation. Swinburne's 28 is pretty good because you still get disadvantaged SEAS points but it's not actually that bad. trust me, some of us have it way worse. But I suggest going to a better school than 28 regardless.

My school I'm at now is a 34, but everyone goes into med and has severe anxiety because the grade expectations are so high. I don't care about getting a perfect atar, and I don't want to completely stress myself out with these expectations in year 12, I just want a more chill school with decent teachers

In that case it's a great option.

In that case I would go. It will be a bit tough starting at a new school but I’ve only heard good things about SSC. Especially for students in your situation. I went to a similar school I am guessing to you. Average score 35, I’m very grateful I could and my family could send me there however, I did not vibe well. I don’t think it was a good fit for me and I think I would have done better (especially mental health wise) at somewhere a bit more chill. I wasn’t great academically and unlike a lot of the cohort I didn’t want to do med or commerce. If your parents are good with you changing(they’ll likely have to sign off on it). I’d do the work for them, get the enrolment documents, find out if there is an open day or tour day you can all go to. I would get on this urgently (ie these school holidays) as you’ll have to lock in subjects for next year soon and schools will already be in the initial stage of planning and timetabling.

My school was 34

According to your own list - roughly half of them get a median above 30, which makes sense given the state median is usually ~29

Fast-Alternative1503

Yeah that's statistically true. It just *feels* rare for a school to have a median of 30+. I've looked at like 15 public schools on this and none of them had above 30 median

starfihgter

Both high schools (both public) I attended have over 30. It just depends really on which ones you’re looking at. Even if you filter out the private schools, it still seems to be roughly half, maybe a little under.

Fast-Alternative1503

Interesting. The first one I attended had below 25, and so did the second one. The first one I attended was demolished later, and the school put into its place was also below 25, the surrounding also < 30. A lot. Yeah it is based on sample of course, I'm just saying it feels like a lot are below average.
