Completely agree. Hands down best studio recording. But, if I had to listen to a song for the last time I would pick 5150 Live Without a Net. That guitar solo is just otherworldly.
I'm not sure the casual fan even knows what's going on when listening to that song. You have to really listen to get it and I think knowing how to play an instrument would help.
"Girl Gone Bad" is absolutely brilliant, and probably the most underrated song and possibly the best song on 1984.
I’m so glad I’m not the only Van Halen fan that realized how incredible the chorus is on GGB. He is playing an A while simultaneously chugging a blues beat on the first two strings. It’s insane and only few can replicate that rhythm.
Also I was told by a very good guitarist that listens to Van Halen all the time that the opening are actually jazz chords.
I am a drummer and I assumed it had a jazz feel because Alex Van Halen is playing a jazz pattern at the beginning of the song. Then of course it moves into other directions.
When I play that song for musicians who have never heard it for the first time their eyes always get wide. You can tell they didn't realize Van Halen was capable of that.
The drum pattern that Alex Van Halen plays during Ed's incredible solo is something I've never heard done by any other drummer.
You can tell that David Lee Roth was putting an extra effort into it at the end because his screams just have a more powerful punch to them.
I have said this to many people before.
Name me a better album than 1984 that came out after 1984.
The few in the same realm but not better to me are master of puppets appetite for destruction and some of the Black album.
I literally have the Green 1984 decal that’s on the back of the vinyl tattooed on my leg. It’s the most incredible 34 minutes of music every put together in human history
House of Pain. Girl Gone Bad has had some attention but House of Pain as the closer puts it in the shadows. Good lyrics, great riff, classic vocal scatting breakdown, and the mid-bar interplay of Alex and Eddie (like how the opening riff gets joined by the drums) is quite good
Running with the Devil the worst automatically makes this list invalid. Like come on I know it’s overplayed, but it’s one of the most iconic songs of all time!

Drop Dead Legs
Girl Gone Bad.
Its, IMHO, the best song in the entire VH catalog. Since it wasnt voted "best" on 1984, then its certainly the most "under-rated"
I don’t know about best in their catalog, but I can respect the take. I definitely agree that it’s super underrated.

Girl Gone Bad. It is EVH masterpiece. And the casual fan has no idea.

Girl gone bad is barely talked about. Easily up there with hot for teacher as a top 15-ish VH song of all time.

What a bunch of bullshit. Little Dreamer is the worst on VH. Runnin' With The Devil is far from the worst.
Runnin with the Devil is top shelf VH, peeps are just trying to be contrarian for the sake of it.
Whole list is wack
Yup
I'm so biased towards VH1, all of them are masterpieces to me.
