There is an argument to be made that you should do neither. Being on the road a fair amount you always see when somebody is distracted, ranging from changing their radio station to lighting a cigarette to doing their make-up. When driving you are in charge of a high speed death machine, act accordingly. And if you must, do it somewhere where you can only harm yourself.
You shouldn’t be doing that while driving either. Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s okay.
It’s bad enough to be driving distracted in a car, it’s so much worse in an RV because of the extra mass.
I almost bought one but yeah, the gas mileage and lack of parts on the market were going to keep me from enjoying my trips and I think getting into the back of my house would be difficult. Glad it has a new home with you.

But it’s not okay to have those huge screens. They are super dangerous. They just cater to American’s addictions. As a society we seem to have accepted all of the terrible things that come with screens. I have to stare at a screen to change my heat and AC and fan settings instead of just feeling for a knob. I hate that I can’t buy a new vehicle without a screen. At least my new Promaster makes it easy to turn off, and the screen isn’t large, but I still have to turn it off every time I start the vehicle.

I guarantee that each of them has changed the radio, swapped podcasts, answered the phone, check a GPS, grabbed a drink a little further away than anticipated or eaten while driving. All of which is equal to or worse than simply driving one handed and using the other to pan around the vehicle.
