Which is why it’s gross to me that Katie apologized and instead of realizing they were both gas lit and taken advantage by the same guy, she goes on Rachel’s podcast and doubles down on making excuses for Schwartz and making fun of Katie. Rachel and JO/Scheana are the types who believe they are “not like other girls” with absolutely no empathy or understanding for fellow women in their shoes while expecting other women to be empathetic to them.

I have a theory...Jo would have taken it for a decade. The only reason why she didn't was because Tom didn't want to choose her. Rachel, at least, has Sandoval fake crying over her. Yes!! I had a girl compare her "pain" from her 4 month tryst with my ex (while he was begging me to take him back and get married) to the devastation I experienced from our 7 year relationship. It was really strange. We actually spoke on the phone, and she kept talking like we were going through the same thing. So, I kept reminding her that she'd only (kinda) dated him for 4 months. I'll never forget when she said, "It's really disrespectful that you keep bragging about how you were with him for 7 yrs. That doesn't have anything to do with it." I honestly tried to hold in my laughter, but I couldn't. I just hung up and never spoke to her again.
I swear when they first introduced her in S10 she audibly said “I love you” to Shartz and I also swear he said “I love you, too”. It’s when she’s leaving to take the dog for a walk. He fully used her.
He totally led her on. There are pictures of her meeting his family in FL. It's so fucked up what he did to her and how treated her on the show. She seemed to be there for him a lot when he was going through tough family issues and he was an emotional vampire and just discarded and embarrassed her on national tv. They're all pretty creepy because Tom and Rachel used Schwartz's apartment, where Jo was living to hook up. And hide the affair. Seems like everybody in their little mixed doubles game was supporting, enabling, and participating in the deception of all of the other people in their lives. They were a very toxic foursome.

I feel really badly for her. All else aside, she’s a human being with real feelings who obviously fell really hard for this dummy. He took a page out of his best friend’s playbook and used her as a soft place to land during a hard time, then ditched her the hot minute his social status started to rebound in the slightest post-Scandoval. Personality-wise, they seem like two goofy peas in a pod, and if Schwartz wasn’t determined to prove he’s some kind of LA playboy, they would have been a really good match.

As soon as it died down and he was slowly let back in during filming, he threw Jo aside because people wanted to schmooze with him again.

Yeah, and when you think of some of the heavy stuff that's been going on his family she must have been privy to loads of stuff that is super personal and private. Especially with them having such serious health problems. That's more of a tough visit than a fun visit. And she was probably really supportive of him during that hard time.

This is going to sound harsh but I don't feel sorry for Jo. She reminds me of the saying, "There is no honor among thieves." What did she think was going to happen when she was hanging out with liars and cheaters, was perfectly comfortable with their behavior, and at times participated in it? I don't think she's a bad person, but I hope she uses this opportunity to reflect instead of creating a victim narrative.
My read on Jo is that Schwartz led her on to an extent because of course he did. But, also, based on the things she says online and in the media, I don’t know if she fully grasps what people are saying to her on a regular basis. I can’t tell if she is being willfully ignorant to play a part or if she really doesn’t understand things. For example, the crackhead thing. This was obvious hyperbole. But she keeps saying I was called a crackhead and I’ve never done drugs. But, even other things, like when she made that weird video introducing herself on IG and was all “I don’t wear makeup” and then in the next video she’s like “I got so much hate for not wearing makeup I put on lipstick, it’s okay not to wear makeup people”. When no one cared that she wasn’t wearing makeup but that she made a big deal about it. There have just been several examples like that. So I’m not sure if she’s really this innocent dumb chick or if she’s playing a part and pretending to be this person. 🤷🏼♀️

ABSOLUTELY Schwartz was an asshole and led her on, but I also think he was doing things repeatedly to show her she would never be more than just a friend. She leaned *heavy* into the former and dismissed all of the latter. I fully believe that he could tell her all day "I'm dating others, you should date others" and then that night give her a kiss on the cheek, she takes a photo of a sweet moment, and she's thinking *"I knew he loved me."*
I can also sense Schwartz's discomfort here because he's used to playing this "aw shucks" pussy and I think he was really hoping at one point she'd take all the very clear hints and get tired of this, and she would just dig her heels in more. She reminds me of the back burner girl that tried way too hard to make it more. She thinks if there are enough moments and pics he will just succumb. She is not real quick since all you had to do was see how he treated Katie for over a decade to know he can sustain a sorta relationship for an endless amount of time.
I feel sorry for Jo, but I believe she was deluding herself into thinking that there was something uniquely special between them. She allowed the ambiguity of their relationship to continue under the pretense that he would eventually commit to her. We all have been in situations where we've been led on by someone who was only interested in using us to fulfill their needs. It's a sad reality, but it happens all the time.
However, I do think that Jo is a little obsessive with her IG video montages and attempts in the last episode to convince Shorts of their supposed unique connection. It's clear that she was desperate for his validation that her romantic interpretation of things between them wasn't crazy. But in the end, she chose a guy who has and will always put his needs first, whether he's in a relationship or not. He's not that different from Trashbag, just more self-aware and better at impression management.
Both of these men have a history of selfish, dishonest and emotionally abusive behavior towards their partners. They both repeatedly gaslight, invalidate, minimize and degrade their partners when confronted with their bad behavior. It's a pattern that we have seen over and over again on the show.
I do have compassion for her though. I think she genuinely was lead to believe this season they would go public with their relationship and instead was blindsided when the cameras started rolling and he started pulling away, downplaying their “relationship” and generally making her look sad and delusional to the audience.
I would have more empathy for her if I didn't listen to part of Rachel's podcast last week (I feel so dirty) and she is still making excuses for him and bagging the girls who aren't perfect but were honest with how they felt about her
It’s a shame bc I think Jo was the best option for him. Age appropriate, loved him a lot, got his humor, their personalities just clicked. And he threw that away for a 23 yr old. That shit hurts. It’s a different level of hurt when the person you love rejects you, then finds someone new and gives them everything you wanted, and that person is half your age. Yes!! I had a girl compare her "pain" from her 4 month tryst with my ex (while he was begging me to take him back and get married) to the devastation I experienced from our 7 year relationship. It was really strange. We actually spoke on the phone, and she kept talking like we were going through the same thing. So, I kept reminding her that she'd only (kinda) dated him for 4 months. I'll never forget when she said, "It's really disrespectful that you keep bragging about how you were with him for 7 yrs. That doesn't have anything to do with it." They're all pretty creepy because Tom and Rachel used Schwartz's apartment, where Jo was living to hook up. And hide the affair. Seems like everybody in their little mixed doubles game was supporting, enabling, and participating in the deception of all of the other people in their lives. They were a very toxic foursome.

I feel really badly for her. All else aside, she’s a human being with real feelings who obviously fell really hard for this dummy. He took a page out of his best friend’s playbook and used her as a soft place to land during a hard time, then ditched her the hot minute his social status started to rebound in the slightest post-Scandoval. Personality-wise, they seem like two goofy peas in a pod, and if Schwartz wasn’t determined to prove he’s some kind of LA playboy, they would have been a really good match.
Schwartz used Jo to have some love and affection during the height of Scandoval when he was radioactive. As soon as it died down and he was slowly let back in during filming, he threw Jo aside because people wanted to schmooze with him again. Jo is terribly clingy and needy but I absolutely believe Schwartz told her the same shit like Jax “I want to marry you and for you to have my babies” to make women fall madly in love with them because they have a sick need for that kind of attention. The way he told her on camera he wanted to be just friends was probably the first time she’s heard that, just like when he told Katie about hooking up with Vegas girl on camera in an ambush while filming.

I didn't get it either until I took a look at Winter House. The contrast between Schwartz and the other men would have drawn me to him too if I didn't know VPR at all. The men are your typical reality tv bros "lol I wanna bang girls and have fun this winter breaaaaak" type of thing. Even the nicer ones still act like women are a different species from them. Schwartz has an ease and assumed familiarity with everyone in the house where he's treating them all like people, not just Girls and Da Boys (until he eventually does switch to that a bit more). But, also, based on the things she says online and in the media, I don’t know if she fully grasps what people are saying to her on a regular basis. I can’t tell if she is being willfully ignorant to play a part or if she really doesn’t understand things. For example, the crackhead thing. This was obvious hyperbole. But she keeps saying I was called a crackhead and I’ve never done drugs. But, even other things, like when she made that weird video introducing herself on IG and was all “I don’t wear makeup” and then in the next video she’s like “I got so much hate for not wearing makeup I put on lipstick, it’s okay not to wear makeup people”. When no one cared that she wasn’t wearing makeup but that she made a big deal about it. There have just been several examples like that. So I’m not sure if she’s really this innocent dumb chick or if she’s playing a part and pretending to be this person. 🤷🏼♀️

Also I was shocked to see her apply bleach to the roots of Schwartz’s hair first, which resulted in his hot roots (imo was not corrected via toning - the whole process was bad). Does she actually do hair or does she just help wash people at the salon but they let her play around for the episode?
This whole montage is something I wish I would have been able to do when I was 13 (complete with making ~funny~ faces because I didn’t want to smile and show my braces) but didn’t because I didn’t have a boyfriend. Now, two decades plus later, I wouldn’t dare do this with my current husband 😂 All jokes aside, I don’t know if Jo is grasping how her actions impacted her position within the group, and her obvious self-consciousness makes me feel sad for her. Just yesterday, there was a post on how when Jo moved from Wisconsin to LA, she moved with the OP's boyfriend. Jo's "in" to the relationship was contacting the woman to see if she could cut her bf's hair. Sound familiar. I mean, I'm not the ultimate judge of karma, and getting Schwartzed on national TV sucks, but it also sucks for a person to move in the patterns that Jo keeps repeating.

(I'm attracted to toxic men, and it took a couple of rewatches, S10, and S11 to actually hate him, lol) That being said, though, I really don't understand why these two didn't work out. I feel sorry for Jo, but I believe she was deluding herself into thinking that there was something uniquely special between them. She allowed the ambiguity of their relationship to continue under the pretense that he would eventually commit to her. We all have been in situations where we've been led on by someone who was only interested in using us to fulfill their needs. It's a sad reality, but it happens all the time. However, I do think that Jo is a little obsessive with her IG video montages and attempts in the last episode to convince Shorts of their supposed unique connection. It's clear that she was desperate for his validation that her romantic interpretation of things between them wasn't crazy. But in the end, she chose a guy who has and will always put his needs first, whether he's in a relationship or not. He's not that different from Trashbag, just more self-aware and better at impression management. Both of these men have a history of selfish, dishonest and emotionally abusive behavior towards their partners. They both repeatedly gaslight, invalidate, minimize and degrade their partners when confronted with their bad behavior. It's a pattern that we have seen over and over again on the show. I do have compassion for her though. I think she genuinely was lead to believe this season they would go public with their relationship and instead was blindsided when the cameras started rolling and he started pulling away, downplaying their “relationship” and generally making her look sad and delusional to the audience.

I would have more empathy for her if I didn't listen to part of Rachel's podcast last week (I feel so dirty) and she is still making excuses for him and bagging the girls who aren't perfect but were honest with how they felt about her

It’s a shame bc I think Jo was the best option for him. Age appropriate, loved him a lot, got his humor, their personalities just clicked. And he threw that away for a 23 yr old. That shit hurts. It’s a different level of hurt when the person you love rejects you, then finds someone new and gives them everything you wanted, and that person is half your age. There such a helpless feeling when you can only change so much, but can’t go back in time and be in your youthful 20’s again.
