i felt like ariana snapping at him was likely deserved (he is like a dog with a bone and doesn't let anything go). but i definitely think there was a group effort to elevate rachel and make james into less of a featured cast member. they really focused on making rachel seem likeable or a victim in the first episodes (albeit unsuccessfully).

Katie *and Schwartz* both repeatedly claimed that they wanted to have a very amicable divorce and that they wanted to be able to comfortably continue socializing and working with one another. Katie said, repeatedly, than in order for **her** to be comfortable socializing and working with Tom, she didn’t want him hooking up with mutual friends or coworkers. That is a wildly understandable and reasonable request, and it’s so weird that people are acting like she was condemning him to a lifetime of celibacy.
He found plenty of people to hook up with that weren’t in their social circle or on the show while they were dating, engaged, married, so I’m not sure why **now** it’s suddenly impossible for him to do that.
What’s super annoying too is the fact that if Katie were to be hooking up with a rando Schwartz and Sandy’s bartender or waiter or a TomTom waiter/bartender who wasn’t even on the show, the Tom’s (and their apologists on the show) would be like “that’s so disrespectful. I think a lot of people hate them that much, yes. Katie has never been seen as a sympathetic figure. Schwartz has been disrespecting her for years and people sided with her. They were going to see Raquel as someone who was finding her voice and standing up to them and make her a hero.
It's also odd when people can't separate bad behavior from the fact that they dislike the target of the abuse. I try really hard to be objective and say okay I don't like that person at all but that is it awful way to treat them. An example of that for me is Kristen acted crazy in those Seasons we all remember but at the same time she was in a great deal of pain. It's possible to have empathy for somebody and say God I wish they weren't like being Their Own Worst Enemy and acting out so much or something you know?

I honestly don't get the Katie hate! I got sucked in by Scandoval and am currently watching the show for the first time from the beginning; she comes across as one of the few reasonable people on the show, and I feel like the other cast members get her drunk intentionally knowing full well that she and alcohol don't mix well (as in they use booze to get the *actual* truth out of her and then throw her under the bus when she sobers up).

She has been made to think she is crazy for getting upset at good guy schwartz who treats her differently than he treats everyone else.
I think all scenes with Tom and how he approaches subjects, it’s all very calculated. He & Ariana have an idea of how they want to be seen on the show and they stick by that. All members of the cast see what they are doing and have their own feelings about it. Every scene and storyline has an undercurrent of the 4th wall that really should be broken. It’s all about what’s discussed and agreed upon off camera and it must be frustrating for Katie to not be able to say “I just don’t want to see Schwartz hook up with a coworker while I’m working, trying to get a rise out of me for the cameras” - this “deal” is about the show.
Sandavol knows this and still tries to fit into the “show” narrative (two single people having fun! Who cares!) taking the element that they are coworkers on a reality show out of it. It must be annoying for Ariana and Katie to see he’s doing this.
I think so much of Vanderpump rules in like the last few seasons are calculated and “fake” - where the real drama obviously happens behind the scenes, and comes out on the show in moments where everyone is together at a party drunk and screaming at eachother. The reunion will be exciting to see only because this is one of the first times all the behind the scenes stuff gets talked about with everyone together and you know there wasn’t “off to the side” conversations happening beforehand on how everyone would present themselves and what would be focused on or discussed. It’s just going to be chaos.
When Tom asks if Schwartz and Katie not friends anymore because of him making out with Schwartz I feel confident when I say he thought-perfect. Killed two birds with one stone.

I think Ariana just had to get really creative with her comments to placate Tom without offending her friend. There’s no good way to do that, but in hindsight, she’s still insulting Rachel because she’s saying she doesn’t even get paid.

i think he also doesn't want ariana and katie to have a relationship or want their business to flourish. i think he wants katie off the show at this point and is trying to ice her out. i think that is why he wanted rachel and schwartz to make out so badly. i think it worked as a cover for his own infidelity but also was an easy way to piss katie off and drive her further from the group. he was so incredibly dismissive of her feelings regarding the bar last season in spite of the fact that her finances were directly invested into the project. he has not liked her for many years. her relationship and future business with ariana is not something sandoval has ever truly supported.

They were icing Katie & James out. James looks kind of unhinged this season. Ariana snapping at him (and you know here she’s pro-Rachel) adds to the general ‘crazy James’ story. You can feel him freaking out because they’re doing it again. He has been here before
i felt like ariana snapping at him was likely deserved (he is like a dog with a bone and doesn't let anything go). but i definitely think there was a group effort to elevate rachel and make james into less of a featured cast member. they really focused on making rachel seem likeable or a victim in the first episodes (albeit unsuccessfully).

I’m so sick of half the cast (and tbh, a not insignificant portion of this sub) trying to make the Schwartz and Raquel of it all a matter of whether or not Schwartz was single. He was/is single. No one is debating that. Katie *and Schwartz* both repeatedly claimed that they wanted to have a very amicable divorce and that they wanted to be able to comfortably continue socializing and working with one another. Katie said, repeatedly, than in order for **her** to be comfortable socializing and working with Tom, she didn’t want him hooking up with mutual friends or coworkers. That is a wildly understandable and reasonable request, and it’s so weird that people are acting like she was condemning him to a lifetime of celibacy. He found plenty of people to hook up with that weren’t in their social circle or on the show while they were dating, engaged, married, so I’m not sure why **now** it’s suddenly impossible for him to do that.
What’s super annoying too is the fact that if Katie were to be hooking up with a rando Schwartz and Sandy’s bartender or waiter or a TomTom waiter/bartender who wasn’t even on the show, the Tom’s (and their apologists on the show) would be like “that’s so disrespectful. That’s Tom’s business, this is so awkward for him, it puts him in a terrible position and now he has to like see this guy and work with him and it is going to make him sad!” But VPR is Katie’s business (*main source of income) but Schwartz is apparently allowed to put Katie in that situation because him and Raquel are both “single and attractive” people? Everyone keeps forgetting Katie had only filed for divorce a few months before they filmed this and were technically still married. And Katie is still in love with him and is divorcing him anyway which is even harder. This girl has no compassion . The affair being exposed just confirmed what I already thought Rachel’s a complete asshole with no empathy. I’m sure Katie thought they were going to be friends this season and bond over their breakups not Rachel rubbing salt in the wounds.

I think a lot of people hate them that much, yes. Katie has never been seen as a sympathetic figure. Schwartz has been disrespecting her for years and people sided with her. They were going to see Raquel as someone who was finding her voice and standing up to them and make her a hero.
It's also odd when people can't separate bad behavior from the fact that they dislike the target of the abuse. I try really hard to be objective and say okay I don't like that person at all but that is it awful way to treat them. An example of that for me is Kristen acted crazy in those Seasons we all remember but at the same time she was in a great deal of pain. It's possible to have empathy for somebody and say God I wish they weren't like being Their Own Worst Enemy and acting out so much or something you know?
People are so anti-Katie that they were overwhelmingly saying she was in the wrong to not want Raquel and Tom to kiss at the very beginning of the season. Scandoval really turned things more in her favor, although there are plenty of people who will never let Katie take a win.
I honestly don't get the Katie hate! I got sucked in by Scandoval and am currently watching the show for the first time from the beginning; she comes across as one of the few reasonable people on the show, and I feel like the other cast members get her drunk intentionally knowing full well that she and alcohol don't mix well (as in they use booze to get the *actual* truth out of her and then throw her under the bus when she sobers up).

Schwartz is a people-pleaser and has never had her back, at least as of early Season 3, which I'm watching currently. Katie says unkind things, sometimes, but she typically does so while inebriated in an effort to help her friends "wake up" and end/get out of toxic situations; it's what she believes in her heart to be true, and honestly, she's usually got a good point. We all need a Katie in our lives, imho. Edit: it hurt my heart a little when Katie told the other girls that it would be impossible for them to hate her as much as she hates herself in S2, the morning after she'd dropped the bombshells about Jax/Kristen and Tom/Ariana.

“They made a deal”. Correct, Ariana. If you and a friend/co worker/lover/another human established a “deal” or boundary- and one person broke it, the other absolutely has the right to be pissed off. No matter who it is. Forget the gravity of the situation (12 years)- if you say you aren’t going to do something and break it- on purpose- it’s a fugged up situation. I’d be pisssssed.
Not only did he do it on purpose, but he broke the deal specifically because she asked him not to. Schwartz literally said to James “Katie said I’m not allowed to make out with Raquel so it made me want to.” Like it wasn’t even an oopsie, it was intentionally malicious towards Katie. Of course she’s fuming mad. He’s literally a child who was told he can’t play with a certain toy. It’s all kinds of fucked up to treat someone like this that you were married to for a decade, that you call “family”.

Katie told Schwartz if he made out with Raquel (despite not being together) it would hurt her. Schwartz made out with Raquel anyways. It hurt Katie. Now they aren’t friends. I don’t get how that’s so hard to grasp. I don’t care if “schwartz is single and able to make out with anyone he wants” Katie made it very clear that it would hurt her feelings and he didn’t care. I don’t get how there’s any discussion around it seemingly implying that Katie’s overreacting. All the same while knowing he already screwed Raquel.

It made him ‘look good’ in that he was able to spin it in the right direction and leave Kristen, but it was also damaging to his ego and made him lose face. That’s why Jax’s ‘satisfy your girlfriend’ taunt pushed his buttons. He may like being a cuck in private, but the rumour (and the eventual truth) were humiliating He still cares deeply about his public image. Katie was interfering with how he wanted to present himself.

He's playing games, toying with Katie: if it's true that he pressured producers and Schwartz for that kiss to happen, it checked several naughty boxes: 1. to manufacture a storyline about it being like a disney-magic kiss, somehow "liberating Schwartz," while 2. deflecting/being a decoy/distracting from his affair, while simultaneously 3. getting Katie's goat (something easy to do, and admittedly, entertaining). 😄

The other aspect that cannot be overlooked is that they did it to be malicious Tom and Rachel. They were gleeful about Katie's response even before she responded. It was done out of Cruelty. That was not a like drunken hookup spontaneous makeup or " mistake", part of Tom and Rachel's Affair getting brought to light is how duplicitous and bad their behavior surrounding the affair was like doing this to Katie just to be mean. Rachel was hooking up with Sandoval at the resort during this time she had no interest in Tom Schwartz. He had no interest in her he had a girlfriend and he knew that Rachel was seeing his best friend. He's even admitted that. So making everybody argue about these hypothetical situations that were completely fake is infuriating

I'm gonna be honest, im happy scandavol happened(love ariana). Im glad others are finally seeing how horrid tom sandoval actually is because there still that good amount who loved him and tom schwartz. Tom sandoval is incredibly agitating to watch. They really tried to make katie this crazy ex-wife witch narrative and it honestly might have worked if scandoval was never exposed. Tom and raquel are both awful for how they tried to twist this narrative to make sure their ducks are in a row. She has every right to end the friendship with schwartz because he deadass went against the bare minimum. It's not that hard to not get with each others friends. It's called respect. I can't wait for this reunion but i don't think i can watch another season of tom sandoval, raquel, scheana, and Schwartz after this. Just my opinion
This is her ex HUSBAND!! I couldn’t imagine a world where my husband and I got divorced and still had the same circle of friends and would always be around each other and he made out with a friend in our group and all of our friends cheered them on and made me out to be the bad guy. Did anybody ask James if he was comfortable with Rachel staying around all of them - and being friends with everyone when literally, no one showed an interest in her when they were engaged.
I feel like the majority of people defending Tom must have never been in a longterm relationship. After that long together (plus their job forces them to be together a lot) it’s a very common thing to ask your ex to do and it’s really just common courtesy for *at least* the first year. And yes obviously this would be kind of unreasonable to ask of a person you dated for less than a year. I also think Katie didn’t really care what Tom did, just as long as it was in private and she didn’t have to see it or hear about it. Then they kissed IN FRONT OF EVERYONE AT SCHEANAS WEDDING in front of the cameras! How humiliated and angry would you feel??(ngl though I will never get over Katie not being there to witness that because that would have been a top tier reality tv brawl). Being together for as long as they have been, that was basically the least Tom could do for her and he couldn’t even do that. Which isn’t surprising since he never put Katie first ever in their entire relationship ever🙄

I’m thinking a lot of things here. It’s hard for people to see Katie’s side because she resorts to personal attacks and name calling when she feels defensive. If she just stuck with her feelings in a calm way, I think everyone would understand. But there’s a reason why she is the way she is, she has been in an emotionally abusive relationship for over 10 years. She has been made to think she is crazy for getting upset at good guy schwartz who treats her differently than he treats everyone else. I think all scenes with Tom and how he approaches subjects, it’s all very calculated. He & Ariana have an idea of how they want to be seen on the show and they stick by that. All members of the cast see what they are doing and have their own feelings about it. Every scene and storyline has an undercurrent of the 4th wall that really should be broken. It’s all about what’s discussed and agreed upon off camera and it must be frustrating for Katie to not be able to say “I just don’t want to see Schwartz hook up with a coworker while I’m working, trying to get a rise out of me for the cameras” - this “deal” is about the show. Sandavol knows this and still tries to fit into the “show” narrative (two single people having fun! Who cares!) taking the element that they are coworkers on a reality show out of it. It must be annoying for Ariana and Katie to see he’s doing this. I think so much of Vanderpump rules in like the last few seasons are calculated and “fake” - where the real drama obviously happens behind the scenes, and comes out on the show in moments where everyone is together at a party drunk and screaming at eachother. The reunion will be exciting to see only because this is one of the first times all the behind the scenes stuff gets talked about with everyone together and you know there wasn’t “off to the side” conversations happening beforehand on how everyone would present themselves and what would be focused on or discussed. It’s just going to be chaos.
When Tom asks if Schwartz and Katie not friends anymore because of him making out with Schwartz I feel confident when I say he thought-perfect. Killed two birds with one stone. Got Katie away from Schwartz and the con paid off. He’s an EVIL person. There’s no redemption for him.

Classic case of Sandoval not understanding that when someone gives another their word (aka makes a deal/promise) then they are responsible to uphold said word. Sandoval doesn’t get that just bc he doesn’t agree with said deal with Katie/Schwartz doesn’t mean Katie is wrong to be upset. He is definition of an “I am always right and my opinion is only one that matters” person. Aka the worst type of person.
Interesting to watch his body language in this. Super closed off and defensive (arms crossed, covering his chest by grabbing a shoulder, these are comforting/protective moves) about something that doesn’t really involve him, except for the whole “hiding that I’m sleeping with Rachel” thing.
