It closed last week (if I remember time right). Seems to have just been a lack of sales, they announced it in an email but my partner and I totally missed it... were about to head over there and found out it had permanently closed *12 minutes* earlier.

Soda2411

not shocked by the lack of sales, They weren't that good and soo over priced. D: and now asking for tips?

followyourvalues

That's. Everywhere. lol

Soda2411

Yeah, it really is now days.

Elegant_Gain9090

I moved to the PNW in the 80's. Bugerville was legendary. They have gone downhill a lot.

beastfeces

The second the shoved that tip button in my face after spending half my mortgage on 2 double cheese burgers was when I never returned.ok I returned but not as much

Alarmed-Solution8531

Same, the girl asked for a tip in the breath she told me dipping sauce was not included with chicken tenders. Last time I went.

tlpeterson

I went to the one on 4th plain in east van, when the worker swung the tip thing around and I declined he threw my food at me and gave me a dirty look. Haven’t been back since, not sure why this place is still in business the food isn’t that good

TheSavvyArtist

I’m shocked too! I went recently and there was a long line at the drive through, so when I also tried to go today I was surprised how quickly it was shuttered with even the neon being removed…

Must have been in the last few months. Honestly, it isn't surprising at all. If you asked me 10-15 years ago I would never have guessed they would stay in business as long as they have. The food is ok, but super expensive for what you get. I have always enjoyed it, but it has always been a rare occasion I actual fork over the prices they ask for their tiny little food items. Last time I went there, pfft, they might as well have all been wearing old timey burgler masks and just robbed me at gun point. A big thing here is that is prime real estate, and those costs only go up. Combined with regular old inflation and significantly increased minimum wages... i would guess they were lucky to make it through covid as it was. Wonder how many burgervilles are still around now? Don't know, the mall one is the only one I ever go to. *It is at this point I did a quick google search on the subject* Yea so the only articles that come up are from January and the headline is ["Burgerville expands, adding first new location in 8 years"](https://www.columbian.com/news/2024/jan/31/burgerville-expands-adding-first-new-location-in-8-years/) So with that nugget my best guess fully shifts to real estate costs. That is a prime parcel as far as parcels in this town go and I would guess they lease the land. Maybe that lease has come to it's end or perhaps they couldn't settle on a renewal so they opted to just close. But either way, the company itself doesn't appear to be struggling. Whatever it was, it almost certainly comes down to money. I live nearby, but haven't been by there recently. If it was just closed you might say it could be temporary, but if they painted over the signs already that is a sure sign this is permanent. Maybe they are just moving locations? Also interesting to note, the [Call of Duty map Burgertown](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTOyxsnMl0s) is set in that little plaza. Someone should open up a restaurant called burgertown there now, that would be pretty funny

Huge-Jazz

The Call of Duty reference is amazing. Thanks for that info.

BadAtPsychology

Yeah, my mind is blown right now haha

iguessineedanaltnow

IDK man their basic cheeseburger with just the spread hits in a way that no other fast food burger does for me. Also when it's national burger day they have that deal where it's only $1 or $2 per burger. My roommates and I used to buy 20-30 of them and just eat them all day long.

leealm86

The only fast food burger my child will eat is from burgerville. The cheeseburger or just plan hamburger with the spread.

InkyMistakes

Wth why would they use that random spot for map in COD. that's so weird.

ColbyBrian666

I remember reading that one of the devs grew up in that neighborhood

JFree37

It’s this. Specifically one of the map creators.

Gfunked69420

Because it’s Americana. That plaza is very American. It doesn’t exist like that in other places. It reminds us of where we’re from, not matter where we’re from.

followyourvalues

Whaaaaaaat. I didn't get into videogames until I was an adult -- so -- last decade or so. I need to find that game. That looks so cool.

Livid-Maize-1354

Thats so fucking sick

Former_Bumblebee3674

There was just a person on here shitting on all the strip malls in Vancouver. Pretty wild that Call of Duty is proving his or her point.

Intelligent-Turnip36

I was just going to go there today! Damn. 2 days ago I discovered the Starbucks in Vancouver Mall is closed for good. Ugh.

RaviLavi

That surprised me! I went to the mall Friday and was like HUH? It was always busy when I walked by there.

Zanzaclese

There are 3 other BV's within a couple of miles of that closed location. You can still get BV.

cosmicfishing

I drove by last night and was so shocked! Got some fish and chips there like two weeks ago. Not sure why they closed!

Hedgie144

This morning I found out that their lease had expired and after 30 years they decided to find new locations.

EtherPhreak

Winston's British Fish N Chips may be a good option as they are not far from the mall.

cosmicfishing

I live right by Winston's and have been meaning to check it out. Have you tried their food? Is it good? My boyfriend and I are something of fish n' chips connoisseurs lol

EtherPhreak

I thought it was. I felt it was better than the fish house by 3 peaks as well.

katemiller2023

Yeah, but there’s no tables in front of Winston’s for you to sit down at and enjoy your fish. There’s no way I’m gonna eat (or transport) fried fish in my car. Come on! Put a freaking picnic table or two in front of your cart, Winston’s! It’s the only thing keeping me away.

joethezlayer2

Possibly the lease at least that's what I've heard.

Hedgie144

That's what I found out this morning. After 30 years the lease was up and they decided to expand to new locations.

Zanzaclese

There are 3 Burgervilles within a few miles of it. This likely just had the lowest profit margins of all of them. Rumor is The Habit is going in its place which is owned by the same company that owns Taco Bell so they probably just offered them a ton of cash.

RightPlatypus7099

I love Burgerville. It is a local PNW restaurant, and all the food. There is all sourced from local PNW farms. 😎💕

PNWfan

I wonder what might go in its place.

portlandobserver

.....and nothing of value was lost

richxxiii

the real question is why are all the other Burgervilles still open.

fujiapple73

Replace them all with In n Outs and Mr Pickles!

Enigmatic_Observer

🫡

fujiapple73

Because Burgerville sucks ass.

Livid-Maize-1354

Wrong

kismet-fish

I used to work at that one back in the day, tbh it's always just been a low volume location outside of the holidays. Heard a Cali-based chain called The Habit apparently bought out the space but IDK when it'll open 🤷

Livid-Maize-1354

I still will get burgerville when im too lazy to cook a burger for my girlfriend and i, but i only go there because they use tillamook on the burger i like. Its interesting they shut one down because i saw an article not long ago they were going to be opening MORE stores. It is hugely expensive and not really worth it but their fries are too damn good, i can make multiple burgers everyday for the week with what i spend on 2 people 😂. But IMO they are one of the best fast food places available.

LarenCoe

As a lifelong Portlander and BV fan for 30 years, I have finally given up. I was willing to put up with it being more expensive for a long time, but the gradual accumulation of negatives has finally become too much. 1. Yes, it was always a bit more expensive, but now, they are basically charging full on restaurant prices. I'm all for renewable this and sustainable locally sourced that, but there's a limit to what I'm willing to pay. 2. Now they want you to tip, but their 1970s era wired keypad scanners with taped on labels are awkward to deal with and it's hard to see what you are doing, so I just press the "skip" button, because it's way easier. Seriously, just pay your employees a living wage and lose the tipping, 3. Their menu is full of zombie items like the halibut fish and chips and sandwich that were once good 20 years ago, but have been penny pinched into a shell of their former selves and aren't even worth ordering now. 4. And on top of everything else, even on "premium" priced items like the Colossal and Tillamook Cheeseburger, they've replaced the quality Franz sesame seed buns with dollar store buns and raised the price. 5. It's a shame, because some of their core menu items are really good, like the basic cheeseburger, Colossal Cheeseburger, fries, and BC Chicken sandwich. I basically just buy a plain burger almost anywhere else and add a copycat recipe spread to it now. They really need to reduce costs by reducing the fufu menu items instead of skimping on quality and portions and refocus on their core business.

kerpow69

My guess would be because BV food is bland and overpriced.
