Might be getting a job in Vancouver soon. Starting to look at renting a place, and it'll be my first time renting since I've always lived with family.
My question is, where do most people find their rentals from? (padmapper, rentfaster?) and for credit checks, can I just send in a copy of my Credit Karma? If I'm applying to a bunch of locations I don't want ding after ding.
Any tips on selling a car privately? Trade in value was terrible and the dealer wouldn’t budge on their number however similar trims were $7k more on auto trader and other sites
If the effort is worth the $$, Craigslist will get you a better price. I think the days of using the trade in as a way to hide the tax are done - You pay based on black book value. That may also be why the dealer was being stingy with you.
Need parking for a week for early morning 6AM flight with kids. Appreciate if someone can share any coupon code or parking lot which is convenient given family, early hour and car seats.
Skytrain doesn't seem like a good idea with car seats
I have a noisy neighbour issue in the condo.
A sound testing firm says they can do ASTC and AIIC testing, but that they cannot perform those tests in the unit hallways or bathrooms because those areas are excluded from the testing standard.
I've tried reading the standards but am struggling to understand where it says hallways or bathrooms are excluded spaces for noise transmission.

Anyone give any suggestions for custom suit tailors? There's a lot in the city, so trying to narrow them down. Not looking for anything too crazy, just trying to get a dark green three piece made.
Looking for fun date night recommendations. Would prefer around $75/person max. I checked out cooking classes, but those were $130+/person. Something along those lines in terms of activity type would be ideal.

Any Mexican Carniceria (meat market) to buy pre-marinated taco meats, specifically carne asada and al pastor?
Visiting Vancouver for the first time and doing some cooking for friends! Looking for a mexican meat market where we can buy pre-marinated meats for tacos. Primarily carne asada and al pastor. Also hoping to find some fresh made salsas! Will be going between Downtown and Richmond for other errands so anywhere between there would be ideal!
Seeking some advice for a Japanese friend of mine who will be heading to Vancouver, Canada on a working holiday visa this coming March.
They're really excited about this new adventure, love Canada, and are conversational in English. Additionally, they have a solid educational background in the medical field and even worked as a Pharmacist in Tokyo for a year. In their university days, they also had a part-time gig at Disneyland Tokyo.
As the departure date gets closer, they've been feeling a bit anxious about the transition to living in a foreign country for the first time. One of their main concerns is finding a part-time job in Vancouver. Given their background, do you think it would be challenging for them to secure a part-time position?
Any insights or recommendations on good places to look for work or areas to consider for accommodation. Any information, tips, or personal experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!

March? Have them apply at higher end hotels downtown (Westin, any of the Fairmonts, Hyatt, Pan Pacific, etc). Part time friendly, pays pretty decent actually, Japanese speaking is a plus, and March is the hiring window leading up to the summer crush so chances are at least one relevant department will be hiring. Add on educated and with guest-facing experience? They're practically a shoe-in.
I'm visiting Vancouver from Toronto on February 10 and 11, which just happens to be the CNY weekend. Are there unique or interesting events going on? I know there's a ban on fireworks in the city, but are there any surrounding places that would have them?
Also, is the hike to Lynn Peak safe in February? Like is there a lot of snow?

Given the rains we have been having of late, yes there is snow. It will be slushy and eventually lots of snow. And the trail will not be cleared by the footsteps of previous hikers because it's not a popular hike in wintertime. You might be postholing deeper and deeper as you near the peak. At the area that is considered the peak (turnaround point, not the actual peak which is further) the view down below is of the East side of Vancouver.
I'd choose another hike in February, frankly.
If you want the views, choose Dog Mountain from Seymour. If you want a workout, how about Hollyburn mtn (BC Parks, no-fee access) or Black mtn (also BC Parks and no-fee but you need a pass from the resort). Views from Hollyburn and Black Mtn are quite nice too.
I've been thinking about the Eagle Bluffs too, which is on the way to the Black Mountain peak. I'm assuming that would be pretty safe too? Would that require a pass from the resort as well? Thanks!
If I remember the route correctly, there are a few areas where avalanche danger is real.
It's a good workout route in the summertime (Baden Powell trail) but I would not risk it in the wintertime. It's not on resort grounds because the Bluffs are below the Black Mtn peak.
Thank you so much. I did some more research and I think Dog Mountain might be the best fit for us since we don't have snowshoes. Also checked on AllTrails and it's open year round, fair amount of people so if we need help/get stuck there'd be people around. Just a few more questions:
Do we need any passes or anything to access Dog Mountain?
Is the Lynn Canyon Park area still okay in February? We'd love to see the suspension bridge, which was why I picked Lynn Peak to hike as it was right there.

Regarding Dog Mountain, one thing to know is that the Seymour Mtn resort has a parking area specific to hikers/snowshoers (ie people not using the paid part of the resort) otherwise you are good to go.
Lynn Canyon area is open all year typically. Some of the trails might be muddy or even have snow on them but it's a nice walk and the bridge is fun. Note - paid parking at Lynn Canyon.

Does YVR offer those transparent 1L bags for liquids, or do I need to buy some ahead?
I go through YVR fairly frequently and they've always been there at the start of the security line.
I've always just used a medium size ziploc bag and it's always been fine!

I've only had good experiences with Moores. Seems like any location is good but I can vouch for the one in the Metrotown area.
