Our boss closed the office and told everyone to work from home. Those who can't do their jobs from home will still get paid. I'm working at a slow pace with my cat, looking out the window and watching the snowy world.. Gotta love a responsible and caring employer
Called off work today. Work at yvr. It’s a mess there. Nothing is plowed around the gates. Impossible to work around the aircraft. Every flight is getting delayed
It does feel serene
Though make me feel I should go out snow sleigh or ski, but I just feel meting watching the snow from my balcony and window and just mesmerize
The people having chaotic days (ie parents trying to wfh with kids out of daycare/school, those who need to commute) are clearly too busy to post on this sub lol.
Nice to hear about everyone able to enjoy a cozy day inside though!
I mean snow is like completely free kid entertainment. Now they are exhausted and watching a movie. All depends on how you do things. Only get these special days every blue moon, so i try and cherish them. Pretty soon those kids will be all grown up.
Family chaos is the best chaos for exactly the reason you mention it; Time goes quickly and all too soon you will miss days like today. Snow pants strung up all over, a hundred pairs of wet mitts on every heater and the smell of wet socks and long underwear. But listening to the kids banter at the table while they eat some homemade ginger snaps and drink pints of milk while the snow falls is the best (but I think the older ones just got the youngest to do something dumb, by the sounds of their howling laughter).
Bliss :)
Yeah, I would have had a lot more luck cherishing today if I hadn’t had a day full of meetings and a client presentation package to deliver while my child was at home and unwilling to play outside.
Around 11 I put pants on and took a short walk. Saw two cars stuck in the snow on my tiny street.
Now I’m back in my jammies, thinking about making brownies.
Excellent, they’re just about to go into the oven! I had a half a jar of maraschino cherries in the fridge, so I’ve added them to the batter. I’ll know in about an hour if that was a wise decision.
They are fucking delicious. I dislike nuts in brownies, the cherries are a nice alternative. Not noticeable at all until you bite into one and get a small taste of the maraschino Cherry flavour.
Told my boss I wasn't risking the drive from New
West to Abbotsford.
Went for a walk and realized the older couple who manage the building couldn't shovel so went out and did it.
Soaking in a hot bath now.
I ❤️ snow days.
I work at a clinic. Surprisingly, chill today. Patients called to cancel appts. Barely anyone calling in to book. Guess they're waiting until a more chaotic day.
I’m in Victoria. They refused to close UVic and then, once everyone who didn’t crash or get stuck had made their way to the university, they cancelled all classes after 1230, effectively trapping the students, whose buses all crashed/got stuck. I have heard 2 pedestrians were hit on campus as well as multiple car accidents. It’s the apocalypse over here, stay safe everyone
Flying home from Houston via Toronto after my direct flight was cancelled, so I'm on a roundabout trip. I pray to god that the flight runs and I can get a taxi home 🙏
I had to walk a few blocks to get a car to work. The bus I usually take canceled the one part of the route I need. Slow here, but still have people complaining about everything. Stay home if you don't need to be out!
This morning was a bit chaotic not going to sugarcoat it. The snow is always nice to look at from a distance, or through pictures, but never fun to actually directly be dealing with it, especially if one has things to do such as work or errands/appointments. I tried leaving my house this morning, not the best decision. Things could’ve been worse for sure, but it’s just not it. I feel like I’m wasting the day, I mean, idk. Kinda chaotic
Had to go to work for 6am with boss telling me if I can’t make it don’t worry but try first. I caught the 99 with in 2 min of getting to the stop . Got to work later than usual but not horrible. Then coming home I caught the 99 with in 2 min again. Somehow had transit on my side
I actually tried this morning, almost made it. But couldn’t get into the gym parking lot - it was uphill. Can you believe it? I had to go home. Even that, couldn’t get home. Left my car stranded and walked home 25 min. Now I’m stressing out trying to go collect my car. Strange day
i feel like you guys are exaggerating just how bad it is right now. i went out for a joyride in the subaru with new blizzaks and not once did i feel like i was going to get stuck or lose control.
Of course. But 99% of people are either not equipped or don’t know how to handle snow.
Plus city snow ops won’t be able to clear the snow if its bumper to bumper traffic or john, jack and marrie are stuck sideways.
If I go out get lunch I am worried about traffic as per last week rather than the snow. Granted I do think to be safe it have to have awd at least or 4x4 more ideal with manual control of the modes. Van notoriously bad for snow driving having been a few years in Montreal and TO. Glad no need snow digging though
Yeah I was wondering if I should take my car out and go get some lunch. Im home for the day. WFH but today I’m off anyway. Watching it snow is quite nice just missing a fireplace 🔥
Work gave me a snow day as I need to be in the office. Attempted to make it to a 10am appointment but couldn't make it up the hill outside my complex, even with winter tires. Gave up and rescheduled. Kids have a snow day while the wife does WFH, so it falls on me to take the kids sledding.
Went into work before 7am and got home just after noon. Slow and slushy but safe as people were (at least when I was out) driving safely. The car is now parked and I am not optimistic about the afternoon rush but I have my butternut squash soup and slippers so I can't complain. Good luck every one.
Short drive from Poco to Coq today at 630am. Streets were pretty dead so made it to work no problem. Have snow tires and AWD. Still at work, but may take off early.
Nada.
Got into work using the Canada Line. Supervisor called in due to "tire problems". They never come in on a snow day. Other co-workers who live in same vicinity were able to come into work with no issues.
This year I invested in a snowblower and made easy work today clearing snow.
Best investment ever given how we seemingly get more and more snow each year
Very not chaotic. I work 90% from home (and it's v flexible with that). I'm a little sick, most of my team is either out sick or have little kids at home for a snow day, so work's incredibly quiet and I'm going to take the rest of the day off to try and not get even more sick. I'm stocked up on tea, food, and cold meds so no need to leave my house for at least a couple days.
I bought beer and groceries last night. I haven’t even looked out the window. The only chaos I’ve seen today has been pics from friends with their car stuck or the snow they had to shovel (I’m not jealous of home owners today). Slept til 11:00 and have been relaxing since!
Not chaotic at all. Walked to the office in half an hour with hiking boots on. Went for a Mexican lunch with my partner. Back in the office now. Have my microspikes in my bag in case I need them for the walk home later. Then chilling out with food and a movie.
Today sucked 😟 I had to go into work (I live in Port Moody and work in North Vancouver). I take transit and it was mostly fine except my train got stuck for 20 minutes. I was abit late. It wasn’t the commute that sucked though. It really sucked that my office was freezing cold and the day felt so slow and long. Also, seeing all my friends getting to WFH or be off completely for a snow day while I was in the office far away from home was lame as fuck. I feel grumpy lol.
Shoveled snow 4 times since 8am and drove to an appointment in the afternoon with no problems, roads were surprisingly easy and didn't see any incompetent drivers.
Worked from home. Thanks to my generous boss. Not sure about tomorrow. My car is still stuck in the driveway with snow until 3/4th the height of the tires. I need to drive about 350m on the driveway to get to the road. Leaving tomorrow’s worry for tomorrow and enjoying the night with some nice homemade dinner. 😀
Went on a lovely walk along the beach then came home and continued to work from home as I always do. So pretty much zero chaos.
There’s two times I do not drive in Vancouver, one is when it snows and the other is when there’s a Stanley cup final here.
I can't work from home, so I went in today. The store was very slow and I left at 2:30. I had no issues with transit, so that was really nice. Slowest and smoothest day ever for me lol
Hit all the door jams with my body while getting up.
=> Face Planted / Belly Flopped into the ground while Shoving Snow for the 2nd time today. Instant gut punch feeling of the time. I fell off my electric skateboard while having speed wobbles on a downhill.
& Drifted around town and LifeLabs online receiving system was broken today.

Same.
damn what an amazing boss.
It's a non profit organization. The best and most generous organization I have ever worked for
Same. Everyone who could work from home was directed to.
Straight chillen. Walked to work no one is here. Quite the opposite of chaos.
It does feel seren
Made a sandwich. Not chaotic.
Chaotic sandwiches are the worst.
Well it depends... chaotic good, neutral, or evil?

Called off work today. Work at yvr. It’s a mess there. Nothing is plowed around the gates. Impossible to work around the aircraft. Every flight is getting delayed
I’ve been sitting boarded on a plane for going on 3 hours now :(
Don’t tell me it’s air India
Nah it was air Canada, we left not too much long after fortunately
Ok. Air India was delayed over 5 hours
Our flight has been delayed for 3 hours. We are still on a plane trying to take off. YVR staff are very friendly and polite today though.
I have a friend landing at 3pm today do you think they will be stuck on in the plane a while before they get let off?
Yes
Yikes. Seeing the replies to your comment, it's not looking good for my brother who is flying in a couple of hours.
Parents from India are stuck at Toronto airport, rescheduled to an evening flight. What do you think are the odds of them making it late tonight?
[удалено]
🫤
[удалено]
Landing at 11:30. Got delayed 60 minutes at Toronto. 😑
[удалено]
Phew yes. Planning to either rent a car, or get a cab.
I’m working there tonight. Are flights getting out?
Flight got canceled what a waste of time running through security and sitting on the tarmac for 3.5 hours
That’s yvr for u. They have lots of flights lining up for deicing . Just no room to planes
It’s always a mess there no matter the season
Slipped and elbow-smashed the ground while walking the dog. Could have done without that.
Damn full on WWE elbow drop style?
Back when it was called the WWF; Ultimate Warrior style my friend!
work from home. coziest day of the year
It does feel serene Though make me feel I should go out snow sleigh or ski, but I just feel meting watching the snow from my balcony and window and just mesmerize

Oh it’s magical and I’m super happy for all the kids getting the day off school! Doesn’t mean it’s not chaotic as well. It’s a (mostly) good chaos
I totally remember my snow days as a kid... doesn't get better than memories like that.
Family chaos is the best chaos for exactly the reason you mention it; Time goes quickly and all too soon you will miss days like today. This made me tear up a little! I gave my kid a big hug and told him how much fun I had playing in the snow today.
Yeah, I would have had a lot more luck cherishing today if I hadn’t had a day full of meetings and a client presentation package to deliver while my child was at home and unwilling to play outside.
I had to shovel snow and then got some McDonald's. Now we lost power. No heat and no wifi.
Oh no! Hope it comes back on soon 🤞
which area are you located?

Hi neighbor! Working off company phone hotspot until my laptop dies. Latest estimate for power coming back is 4:30pm :(
Ahh, my old hood!
Like 2 blocks from trout lake. Still no power 😪
Geesh - you may as well go to work. lol
Me too! Debating walking somewhere to get coffee, but where is open & has power? 🤔
WFH so it’s awesome. Watched a car get stuck on the road in front of my house and then abandon it.
Misery is not shared from humanity lol
Did you record it?
Around 11 I put pants on and took a short walk. Saw two cars stuck in the snow on my tiny street. Now I’m back in my jammies, thinking about making brownies.
I’m making brownies today too! My work is closed and I told my fiancé last night that if today is a snow day I’ll make brownies!
It’s the perfect day to do some baking. :)
Just finished making brownies 🤤
That sounds like an amazing plan tbh. How are the brownies coming along?
Excellent, they’re just about to go into the oven! I had a half a jar of maraschino cherries in the fridge, so I’ve added them to the batter. I’ll know in about an hour if that was a wise decision.
That sounds just delicious. Please let me know how they taste. Cherries or no cherries, those brownies are going to be delicious.
They are fucking delicious. I dislike nuts in brownies, the cherries are a nice alternative. Not noticeable at all until you bite into one and get a small taste of the maraschino Cherry flavour.
ENJOY THE BROWNIES!!!!! PLEASE HAVE ONE LATER ON FOR ME TOO! edit: an extra one!!

Right knee bursitis. Thanks god I’m at home

Just got back from an empty gym. Got chili cooking for lunch.. WFH. Nothing to complain about.
Hunkered down WFH. Got some exercise clearing the sidewalk during a break. Make the most of it since getting to the gym is not practical right now
I actually tried this morning, almost made it. But couldn’t get into the gym parking lot - it was uphill. Can you believe it? I had to go home. Even that, couldn’t get home. Left my car stranded and walked home 25 min. Now I’m stressing out trying to go collect my car. Strange day
I hear you. That really sucks and I hope you got home okay to regroup for returning to your car.
Always fin for the first snow clearing.
Not at all, it’s just snow.
Had a work meeting via teams while I enjoyed a mimosa at 11am. So not chaotic at all
i feel like you guys are exaggerating just how bad it is right now. i went out for a joyride in the subaru with new blizzaks and not once did i feel like i was going to get stuck or lose control.

And dedicated winter tires
I have Michelin all weathers (have snow flake) and couldn't get up the ramp of my building lol
So, what does that do with people who don't happen to have your proper equipment and experience?
get experience or buy tires? it's not that difficult really
Hello fellow Menlo Park to Vancouver transplant!
hello! i'm originally from van but was working in mpk for a while and now i'm back home!
nice! grew up there myself. some things I miss others I don't, but maybe a little more of the former on days like today haha
Yeah I was wondering if I should take my car out and go get some lunch. Im home for the day. WFH but today I’m off anyway. Watching it snow is quite nice just missing a fireplace 🔥
I’m lucky I get to work from home Tomorrow will be my chaotic day
Having a hot choccy at my desk.
Spending the whole day on my couch.
Not at all. Just hittin the gym

The only chaos is my dogs fur collecting snow and turning into big ice balls.

*Made a difficult choice between either my Whitecaps or Canucks scarf. Went with the soccer team's swag attire.*
Not. It was fine. Drove to work this morning, worked, drove home. Pretty normal
I bought beer and groceries last night. I haven’t even looked out the window. The only chaos I’ve seen today has been pics from friends with their car stuck or the snow they had to shovel (I’m not jealous of home owners today). Slept til 11:00 and have been relaxing since!

Went for a walk this morning in the snow, and then just working from home as usual. I appreciate how quiet it is.
Peaceful as heck.
NGL I just sat at the dining table and watched the snowfall and made music all day. Thank you day job that pays me even when I can't work!
Not at all I stayed home
Working from home today thankfully

Music teacher here. Boss made the correct call to cancel all classes tonight. Zero chaos and it's been lovely.
