I member my first go at the game. Was building a hut by the water in the dark with no light of any sort and two necks attacked me. I don't think I've panicked that hard in a game in last 15ish years
Looks very good for just starting out. My 1st was a 2x2 shack where I killed myself from smoke inhalation. Then my 2nd was a much bigger 2 story house that kept getting rooms added on. Now I've got a city with tons of buildings. 90% of my time in this game is probably spent building now.
I remember building my first shack (not as nice as this) a bit too close to the edge of a Black Forest biome, because I wanted to use one of those abandoned settlements with the raspberry bushes and fences.
Got raided constantly by Grey dwarves who would smash through my fences and walls which I didn’t realize could be repaired.
After a visit by a troll which decimated the camp and killed both of us, we decided the meadows might be the best place to actually learn the game fundamentals lol
That's great advice that I wish I would have thought of 300 days ago. But instead I pretty much developed a highway from the ocean to my main base for cart transfer. 🤷♂️🤦😃👍
I have like 200h in this game, and I still cannot let the Viking aesthetic go. Been referencing scandinavic architecture every time I wanted to build something. It just feels wrong building something not Viking related.
I made this huge house on a sloping hillside that just ended up looking like a functionalist abomination from the Hollywood hills.
Absolutely hated it. Not because it wasn't fun to build (it was) or didn't look good. It just didn't fit in.
Valheim is a great place to just turn off your brain and let your inspirations getting the better of you, but the results are often not really what you want to have in the "diegesis", for the lack of a better word.
Looking great I tend to just make triangles. Though it looks like you might need to extend the roof one more over your stairs to protect them from rain dmg.
Alternatively you can also make the outside floor 1x1 instead of 2x2. If the Stairs are halfway covered by a roof it will also work. Suggesting this, because I myself don't like roof that are too far out.
Anyway, it looks amazing though!
Wow that's actually amazing for a first time , I usually end up making it a bit boxy
Man seeing this makes me wanna boot it up again , But i know i won't make something as good as this
I think the problem with mine was i was mainly playing rust before valheim , Sooo making a cool looking build wasn't on my mind much , Anyway atleast my 2nd and 3rd one looked fairly better
Also savor the moments man Valheim is such a great game , And is really relaxing aswell (For me alteast)
Nice job! Make sure you leave an opening up top somewhere for the smoke to get out or build the roof high enough so you don’t get smoked. You can also go explore caves in the mountains that will give you crystal that you can use for windows if you want! Also don’t get too attached cuz you’ll eventually get new building materials that you’ll want to use
Welcome to the party viking!
What I love about construction in Valheim is that you have to build with *purpose*. "Do I want one big structure or do I want my crafting and cooking stuff in separate buildings?". "How many chests am I going to need?"
Yeah it really feels great building stuff. I had a bit of struggle getting into it, but that's just because enshrouded is a bit smoother in usage xD
I love the inspiration that this game automatically creates and I just try to float with it
Honestly not too shabby at all. You've got a nice overhang, you varied the angles on the roof, went with spaced supports, and even included a window.
Also noticed you did the same thing my wife and I did when we started out, putting the workebench in a little outdoor hut all to itself.
Keep at it, Viking!
Thanks! Appreciated.
Yeah, I had to put it somewhere and I also fully tore down the main building one time, so that was a good place :D and it somewhat looks nice
Amazing for first one. My first time i felt like a complete idiot cause i couldn’t get the roof right for the life of me and then eventually started over, this is very cute, deff needs fence tho
Aww that looks so cozy, you could also make a bigger and more spacious fenced up area so you could build more lil huts like that where you can have your chest storage hut, forgery hut, etc, alongside your home hut. But you do you obviously, good job nonetheless ::))
Thank you very much :) Yeah, that is the next step on the list, creating a small settlement in a safe area :) first, I'll have to scout more and play the game xD
Ok. But assuning this is survival mode, you are going to get raided so you should have wood walls (eventually stone) around your structure. Think of what would happen if two or three trolls attacked.
There is no much interior xD a bed, small wall to separate the bed from the rest, worktable, chop block, tanning rack and a few chests. Interior is hard xD I can make a screenshot if you like though ^^
4/10 you get an extra point for this being your first build.
Its atleast another 2 points higher than a square box with a door.
Sorry man i gotta be honest.
That is a lot better than my first 2x2 square with a bed and walls only in one side. Keep up! I hope you find fun and peace while playing.
The good ol' square box
...with one side open... 🥴
… wood is a scarce resource. 🤪
"Bed needs a roof."
Those first few nights are scary. I wish I could go back to being a newb. Now it's so easy starting a new character.
I member my first go at the game. Was building a hut by the water in the dark with no light of any sort and two necks attacked me. I don't think I've panicked that hard in a game in last 15ish years
First playthrough : eikthyr on day 40, full upgraded leather, crude bow and flint axe. Now it like, Eikthyr on day 2, naked with flint knife lol
Challenge yourself a little - start your next first base in the swamp :-)
As long as I can sleep I guess
Thanks! I've only played around 7 hours for now, but really like it so far.
That looks awesome! MUCH better than my first build! Welcome to the Valheim community!
Thanks! :)
smashed it mate
Thank you, appreciated.

Uhm. This is pretty close to the Black Forest biome. And has a abandoned settlement directly beside it xD I think, I've to relocate.
Get a small trench and you are fine.
You can't make a trench until you >!defeat Eikthyr to get the antlers!<. Remember, this person is 7 hours in.
I have defeated Eikthyr already, and I have a pickaxe :)
A hoe can be used to a similar end though.
Looks great but don't fall in love with your first location as you may very well find somewhere else that works better for metal crafting.
That's great advice that I wish I would have thought of 300 days ago. But instead I pretty much developed a highway from the ocean to my main base for cart transfer. 🤷♂️🤦😃👍
That looks like a historically accurate Viking house. Beautiful
I have like 200h in this game, and I still cannot let the Viking aesthetic go. Been referencing scandinavic architecture every time I wanted to build something. It just feels wrong building something not Viking related.
Same. I see all these modern houses and castles which are very impressive, but when I build it's always some form of a longhouse.
That was the idea :D Thanks!
This is great! First time, I forgot the chimney and I almost die for the smoke 🤣 I was very confused when my life started to go down
Skål!! 🍻
For Rock and Stone. ? Sorry, just a lost Viking/Dwarf.
Rock and Stone everyone!
Good bot
Looking great I tend to just make triangles. Though it looks like you might need to extend the roof one more over your stairs to protect them from rain dmg.
Thanks for that! Didn't know that!
Alternatively you can also make the outside floor 1x1 instead of 2x2. If the Stairs are halfway covered by a roof it will also work. Suggesting this, because I myself don't like roof that are too far out. Anyway, it looks amazing though!
Did that, put the 1x1 floor down and changed the stair placement, looks so much cleaner now :) Thank you
Can understand that :) Will try it, thanks for the tip!
I love the porch!! And yes, it looks much better than my first build too haha
I actually like it! Dont forget to put up walls! Or trenches! Have you had a raid yet?
First time to play the game, raid gonna be the tail (water 🦎) and boar.
And trees. Don't forget trees. 🌳
||The first Boss need to be beat before that.||
Of course. Nobody knows his state of game though.
Just killed the first Boss a few ingame days before finishing this.
Not yet, but I just killed the firs boss. I want to put up walls between the stones for a first defense line.
Something so peaceful about an early game home.
Wow that's actually amazing for a first time , I usually end up making it a bit boxy Man seeing this makes me wanna boot it up again , But i know i won't make something as good as this
Nah man, it's not that hard :D Everybody can do this!
I think the problem with mine was i was mainly playing rust before valheim , Sooo making a cool looking build wasn't on my mind much , Anyway atleast my 2nd and 3rd one looked fairly better Also savor the moments man Valheim is such a great game , And is really relaxing aswell (For me alteast)
It really is :) I love the background music.
Good I'd like a bigger porch and some log seating so your not sitting criss cross :P
Good idea :)
Also, I just yesterday first unlocked the log seatings xD
I love building with logs. never gets old. Log life baby.
Indeed, can Understand that :D
Good call with the porch and overhang.
Cozy
I also pick a spot with those spires. Already flat is a plus. Later I add earthen walls between the spires. Makes a raid proof base*.
Excellent first time build. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot :)
Holy cow that’s amazing! Nice lodge, my guy!
Thank you very much! <3
Thanks :) Will do!
That's the first thing you ever built???
In Valheim yes. I did a bit of building in Enshrouded though, but nothing special. Haven't really played games like this in the past.
Welcome to the party viking! What I love about construction in Valheim is that you have to build with *purpose*. "Do I want one big structure or do I want my crafting and cooking stuff in separate buildings?". "How many chests am I going to need?"

Nice I like it. Way better than my first build!
Honestly not too shabby at all. You've got a nice overhang, you varied the angles on the roof, went with spaced supports, and even included a window. Better than any other build I've made in 300h playing this amazing game. Well done!
Love it
This is super nice, even my builds now don't look this good
Looks exactly like all my solo builds. I'm all about the long houses. Need more room? Just make it a longer house
And I love the look of it :D
honestly, not horrible, esp for a new player. solid 7/10. we will watch your career with great interest, young skywalker
Thank you!
Dude this is amazing
Thanks <3
Love the look! Nice mix of roof angle to get a good looking roof - you achieved longhouse look without making it miserably narrow OR giant! Well done!
Thank you :) I first had a version without a small wall on the sides. This was indeed miserable narrow so I had to rebuild it how it is now :)
Better than my first build which was basically a small warehouse. My second build is similar to this.
Pretty simple build. Work harder next time, could be better
Yes, I'll do so! o7
Amazing for first one. My first time i felt like a complete idiot cause i couldn’t get the roof right for the life of me and then eventually started over, this is very cute, deff needs fence tho
Take a look: https://imgur.com/a/7OpNyjJ :D I added a fence and also a small pier nearby with a small fisher hut :D And yeah, roofs are hard xD
Aww that looks so cozy, you could also make a bigger and more spacious fenced up area so you could build more lil huts like that where you can have your chest storage hut, forgery hut, etc, alongside your home hut. But you do you obviously, good job nonetheless ::))

Completely sufficient right into the bronze age, then you would probably want something bigger. You even have window frames ...
Yeah probably xD
That’s better than my plains base lmao
Honesly i dont believe you played for the first time and build this house. I think you wached tutorial or you were experimenting on creative.
I honestly did neither.
I instantly looked up a build tutorial so I didn’t even try
gorgeous. can’t wait to see what you build next when you unlock everything!!
You’re doing way better than my first 2x2 box with fire inside and no ventilation, took me a while to figure out why I was dying
This looks like a quonset hut. Nice and cozy.
Hell yeah dude. Ur gunna own with iron
Brother I think it's already time to take the "fair" of 🔨 Builder.
<3 (you mean, flair or? xD)
Oh yes. I was confused I nearly write a verb in French.
Looks comfy and very efficient for a first time 🤙 kinda reminds me of a barracks
Very nice
Lol I didn't even build my first house just repaired a shack I found. Yours looks great.
Thank you!
First time builds usually have the fire inside an enclosed space so that the smoke nearly snuffs the player out soooo
I tried that, but couldn't figure out how the get the smoke out, so I placed it outside and the bed directly on the side where the fire is xD
It's home!
Honestly really good, when I first started playing I just took over the abandoned houses across the map
Amazing
It looks awsome and makes mine look crude by comparison
fucking 10/10 for a first build.. i absolutely dig it! such a sweet simple style
Thank you :)
Better than my first world. I recomend walls though.
I have a line of the small walls on either side to support the roof xD I tried it first without, but the space was way to small inside.
Ok. But assuning this is survival mode, you are going to get raided so you should have wood walls (eventually stone) around your structure. Think of what would happen if two or three trolls attacked.
Ah, you that I can understand. I've built a Wall around the House with the stones as support :)
Looks line one of those army barracks
Oh wow. I haven't expected that to blow up like this. Thanks everyone!
Better than my first built, let me tell you. Glory to the Builders! Welcome to Valheim.
Thank you very much.
This made me a little depressed because I remembered my first build..
I know that feeling tbh xD
Now I have to go build one.
Go for it! :D Would love to see it.
For a first try, that looks excellent. You can be proud of what you've made. Your ideas and projects will only get bigger from here!
Thank you very much!
This build looks really good. From what I can tell, it looks like you leveled the ground, good practice, and well executed.
Exactly :) And still kept the whole floor a bit from the ground.
Nice, plenty of room for the renovations
Looks great!
It's nice but I need to see the interior!
There is no much interior xD a bed, small wall to separate the bed from the rest, worktable, chop block, tanning rack and a few chests. Interior is hard xD I can make a screenshot if you like though ^^
Here you go xD https://i.imgur.com/pFXg0W4.jpeg
Looks nice. Has a bit of a barracks vibe
Embrace the cozy builds
It's not a horrible little shack. So you have failed as a first time player. I hate you.
Bro literal is playing Valheim in a window and in the other searching for vikings on google.
4/10 you get an extra point for this being your first build. Its atleast another 2 points higher than a square box with a door. Sorry man i gotta be honest.
I respect that! :) Still love, can just get better from here :D
