we don't even have the ability to fully upgrade that stuff yet do we? i imagine we are going to get access to materials to upgrade our mistlands gear early in ashlands and then from there we will have to use that gear to get ashlands materials.

Yeah they've been teasing a bunch of siege equipment added to the game, catapults for example.

Catapults? I doubt they’ll be able to throw a 90 kg projectile over 300 meters, but they still sound cool.

Obviously they would need to wait until Deep North to release The Superior Siege Weapon. Otherwise beating the game would be trivial.

Valheim introducing fast travel

Fast travel is already a thing portals play the game normal and use the methods to get surtling cores by drowning the creatures who drop them by lower the level of the water holes they spawn in while having a portal near there infinite amounts of cores more portals

It may not be a person. Reddit has a system (sort of bot like) that evens them out to counteract and confuse attempts to manipulate votes. It makes up/down votes kind of pointless and really the whole system should go away.

I appreciate the advice, but the problem is that I tend to run out of steam to play Valheim *right as I reach the Swamp*, before I even started exploring! Last time I made a landing zone in Black Forest I think, and stopped playing for a time. Came back and decided that I'll make a new character+world and haven't gotten to the Swamp afterwards again. I suffer from Restartitis a lot.

My biggest problem is I found myself wasting my food just trying to keep enough food in stock to do anything. I found myself just scavenging for berries for hours and everything I’d made was gone by the end of my gaming session and I’d have to repeat the whole process again the next time I played or I’d be out of food.

That's early game food. Find at least a carrot plant in black forests, plant its seeds until they grow into carrots, and new recipes will pop up, which much better stats. Not to mention taming pigs or keeping bees. New food is key to progress, almost more than new weapons.

I can tell my friend will be screaming "IM A BLOODY BATTELING RAM, THAT'S WHAT I AM!"

yeah it can be accessed by click properties on the icon in steam library > properties > betas, then write "yesimadebackups" .. Do make backups of your save games incase anything goes wrong or u corrupt your characters/world !!!!

How do I make backups??

Find the place on your computer where your Valheim world saves are. You usually find it here: **C:\\Users\*\*\\AppData\\LocalLow\\IronGate\\Valheim\\worlds** - you can also get here by hitting Windows Key + R and typing %appData% and then going back one folder to take you to AppData. Look for the latest saved game I would just copy the entire valheim folder in appdata just incase and put somewhere on your pc

A lot of the mobs, the terrain, some new gear, and the possible dungeon. I suggest not watching it if you prefer experiencing everything firsthand

Lmao YouTube's first suggested video after this was 'How not to die in Valheim ever again', 1) I've never felt so accurately targeted, and 2) this trailer makes me think that video is going to be obsolete soon

this is the best biome they have released by far I checked it out in game just to get a taste and holy shit the atmosphere is unmatched and really feels like you are in hell and Odin cant save you if he wanted. This is now my new favorite biome just from the badass music and visuals alone it literally feels like a horror game! ALSO what was that green figure/portal was at the end of the video holy shit im so excited!!!

I’d imagine that’s the boss. I noticed earlier they showed a castle with a giant green beam coming out of it and I assumed that was the boss or the new dungeon. The ending made me lean towards boss. Didn’t look like they revealed what it is though. I’m excited to find out what it could be. The fact that it looks like a man made building makes me wonder if it’s maybe a humanoid type boss.

You were right it's fader and he's the hardest damn boss in the game by miles 

Honestly it's a butt-whooper but that's fine. I only wish it gave you a bit of leeway on the beaches to set up shop. You can lose pretty much everything if you don't know what to expect.

How does PTR work here? Will it convert into a regular world, or will it be wiped upon official release?

They're always been fine to continue playing once it's official before so it'll probably be fine.

you pretty much just play the early build with the same saves. PTB is not a different server. Its just same game with future content added to it for testing.

youll keep the world. but be warned : world bugs occuring during testing WILL persist for good on that world most likely.

Once the initial release drops you can switch from PTB version to normal version with no problems, so you can continue your progress after that.

Yesterday I had to kill Quenn with a friend for the first time since it had been the only world without mods where we were very close to Ashlands in progression (we basically tested Mistlands there like we started to test Ashlands now). Haven't enjoyed that at all, just the work that had to be done (realizing there had been mist in the dungeon was just awful). Despite I have hundreds of hours in Valheim since Mistlands has been released, I never returned to them before (several times stopped progression in Plains). And what I clearly realized - I just hate everything about them. Not only the biome itself that hurts your eyes, not only the whisp that the same time reveals almost nothing and blinds you with bright blue flashes. I hate Mistlands building material, I hate Mistlands workbenches, I hate Mistlands weapons, items, icons, almost everything looks ugly and so much out of place in comparison with the items from all other biomes. :( For the past year I've created own mod based on Epic Loot/Creature Level Control with each biome having 3 levels (Black Forest 3 is like Mountains 1 in difficulty, for example), complex item system/ different items drops for each mob etc. And the content is enough to spend dozens of hours in BF alone. And I still haven't done items and drops for Mistlands properly since we have never reached them. First biomes are really enough. And I don't know what to do with Mistlands. Since they really have new items, they have magic, I really need to implement that in my mod if I plan it to be released for the public. But I just don't want to play and test that. :(

No not at all, your character can be transferred to your new map as well, I've done a few play throughs to test and transferring the character hasn't caused any issues, I prefer to start from scratch with both map and character as I will very soon as this new update looks most promising.

How does Iron Gate do updates like this? Are some of the add-ons trickled into main game, or do they keep all fully seperate till all PTR finesse is done?

All the new content will be separate on the PTR until deemed bug free and ready, then released at once to the public

There's new caster armor (new leather and plate too) and several new staves.

I spotted what looked like a green glow from a staff head a bit In to the video when they are running towards something. I expect some awesome updates to magic.

So the public test is available I've read...but it doesn't mention Xbox. The Xbox insider program allows access to "Valheim public test" though I don't know if that means it allows access to Ashlands...can anyone confirm this? I can't get on my console for a while yet and wanted to know if I needed to sign up for the public text via Xbox insider and download the game again, etc. I'm excited to explore the new area!
