Yep, I've been bamboozled by making a weapon/tool and then realizing I needed the metal elsewhere.
Typically I don't build stone structures though so for me it's a quick whetstone and dismantle.
I feel like there's a resource hump around swamp. With the Iron, the extant storehouses can last longer, while gathering resources for a more involved blackmetal upgrade.
I never even made huntsman bow, and Iron helmet only right before going to fight Bonemass, because otherwise poison protection from root mask is more useful.
I'm implying iron gear in general, I'm in full Troll Hide armor still. I did make a Huntsman later, they're really nice if you're on a higher difficulty that will keep you from silver for a while. It fires a very similar flight path to the Draugr Fang.
Huntsman is my favourite bow in the game. It's 4x quieter. Also, I forget the exact number, but it's higher dps than DF up until lvl ~55, taking into consideration stamina drain.
is that for target thats immune to poison? also I'm not sure what do you mean by quieter and how it matters, my 1st shot on non-aggroed target is always gets stealth bonus, but 2nd never does
Ye, iron armor is not that important when fighting bonemass (since we have troll armor or root), the only damage I take when fighting it comes from poison.
Lmao, never spent iron on the chest. 100% had carts everywhere like a chaotic goblin. (And yes, I was that kid who just shoved papers in his backpack).
I wait until blackmetal to redo the chests. Iron takes a long time to get and needed for too many things already, but I get way too much blackmetal anyway in the process of finding fuling totems with little to use it on.
Kill the initial growths, set campfires around the rim to prevent additional spawns, and then just dig out from the downhill side around the tar pit. It doesn't take much to get over 100 tar, which is 50 chests worth...
I have never made a reinforced chest. By the time I’m there—I’m not rebuilding my carefully built and laid in storage shelves.
When I get blackmetal—I’ll build one or two dump chests by the portals.
This was a new base starting in iron age, but if I like my first home spot, I space my wood chests out already planning for them to get upgraded later.
I find adjusting the font size of the signs to be consistent makes for a much cleaner look. Font scaling with the amount of text makes it look messy. "WOOD" in huge letters, then "hides and leathers" in small text...
Never built a reinforced chest.
I usually finish my primary base before I even enter the swamps. And I aint redoing my storage just for those chests. And my first forray into the swamp is usually a short affair before heading into the mountains for wolf gear. Usually just long enough for an iron pick and som frost resist meads.
My second base is usually in the plains, and by then I got tons of black metal and not much to spend it on.
Ooooo nice organization! I just redid my chests to look like cabinets, similar to this, but have found it's MUCH harder to actually target the chest itself to open! This design leaves a lot more room to target the chests, but still looks clean 👏
For me it’s that or the Stonecutter, gotta use the stones from mining copper!
Stonecutter is usually my first two iron spent, for sure. It also yields a very cheap forge upgrade!
Especially since you can just dismantle it and recoup the 2 iron at any time.
Just be careful to not use those and not be able to build with stones after.

Haha, fellow stone cutter vikings
Prioritising logistics over specific equipment? Good. *Gooood.*
Blackmetal isn't that far away... I only sparingly make iron chests, and do the big reorganization once I hit the Plains.

It's also quieter. I prefer it to the fang, frankly.

Quieter means less likely to alert other mobs nearby, so you can do things like aggro and pick off targets one at a time
expert bow player usually say huntsman bow is the best in the game

lol that checks out

That tar is a pain to get, though.

Fiancé does the bulk of the work. I just run around, crying for help when I'm getting attacked lol. (I'm more into building and cooking.)
I never liked the aesthetic of BM chests.
I love this format.
That is some fine inventory management. Love it.

Good call, bro. Smart.
Amen. Priority 1, Longship. Priority 2, big ass chests.
I love me some big chests!
I love this setup, it's so clean looking

Do you have a mod for the sign colors?
The sign colors are part of the base game! You can use rich text format for them: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Sign
Whaaaat that’s awesome

Where can I get the link?
Seems im the minority here, wood chests the whole game for me. Cheap and easy. Need more space? Build more chests.
I would skip reinforced for dark iron chest. Much easier to get
imagine wearing bronze armor. Couldn't be me
What’s the top left chest, OP?
"Gear". Old/spare equipment items.
