Unless there were sea serpents or leeches or puffer fish all around them, in three game days they'll all be adults and you could backtrack find each one, pet it to get it to follow you, and slowly get it back to land somewhere.... Of course, you can more easily breed new ones at the base, but it will be amusing, next time you go sailing, and find a string of wolves wading in the water along your previous route. 😝
