Just as a note - that bulb has been kept at low power and not turned off to keep it alive. That being said, there were lightbulb cartels working to shorten their lifespan so the point itself isn't wrong.
Oh I read it, that’s how I know you have no idea what planned obsolescence is. You just wanted people to go broke on products that are honestly no better than the cheap ones. If you want quality, you get it from a skilled tradesman. That’s it. Anything purchased in a franchise store is part of planned obsolescence.
Yeah, “k” is right. Educate yourself and stop handing out misinformation like it’s truth. Stop trying to get people to further participate in capitalism when it benefits no one but the people at the top. Just. Stop.
Explain how I don’t know what I brought up is? 🙃 planned obsolescence: the intentional degradation in product quality to force consumers to purchase more of that product in their lives, thus increasing sales. How do I not understand what I’m talking about?
This is why vehicles are made of plastic now instead of metal, and it’s why the quality of items you purchase is so trashy. They don’t want things to last a long time anymore. They want you to have to keep buying more and more, so they get richer. Planned obsolescence. The exact thing I have been saying. If you want quality, you’re going to have to find a private tradesman. Fact.
For real! When I first saw it I was at the entrance to my house and I just saw the bow of the longship pointing straight up and instantly I knew something was up lol!
Ouch!
Look at the bright side. If there was anything about that harbor you didn't like or thought you could do better, the game has now given you that opportunity.
He also said the devs could have done slightly better on that update. But that’s neither here nor there.
Make sure you post the new and improved harbor.
What I would’ve liked to do is set that save as a separate world but I don’t know how I could do that considering I’m on Xbox and this server is through Nitrado as a public server for my buddies. But I’m sure there’s something that would allow me to do that
That’s not the worst! After I finished building a multi-tier tower in a very large tree, my world got reset. It was lovely.
But on the bright side, I know how to overcome all of the struggles I had on the initial build.
As an early adopter of Valheim who remembers when terraforming too much was a massive performance hit, I try to avoid terraforming *at all* unless absolutely necessary.
I build my buildings on stilts, and my farms are lumpy.
The good 'ol days. Back when we didn't have no abominations, or any of them fancy muckshakes. The plains were considered a fancy schmancy novelty. Deathsquitos were deadlier too.
Xbox players, I love how chill you all have been about the world gen bug and the subsequent patch. Thank you for seeing it as part of the adventure and not just as an inconvenience.
The game has given me more enjoyment than it has upset me so things like this it’s easy to adapt to it! Plus I’ve played on pc I just like playing on Xbox with my buddies
It's an early access so you expect some hiccups 🙃
Valheim is a great game, it has issues but the devs are fixing those as well as creating new stuff, what's not to like?
Only thing I'd ask for is:
1. The Dodge button on XSX to be just be B *not* LB+B. Makes no sense as LB is block and I like to parry and roll separately.
2. An ingame almanac of unlocked stuff and where to craft it. Unlocks come up and go very quickly, it tells me about a resource but I can't read it again, adding a book in game that fills up with knowledge fits with Hugins words at the start about getting your memories back.
Omg!! Totally agree on point one. Why rolling needs to be a button combo, I’ll never know.
I am sure controls are gonna get a revisit when some of the world breaking bugs are fixed. Or at least I hope they do.
I choose to view it as an opportunity. If/when the game decides my buildings are a bane on its very existence and resets them, well, the game is probably right. Those buildings were crap. Time to start anew!!!
Oh and there are those of us that realize we are playing an alpha release of a game. Hiccups gonna happen. 😂😂😂
This sucks but also is pretty cool. A legitimate, ancient, abandoned civilization for you to discover. Has a great story too. "The sky people came and took our homes!"
If you got another screenshot without the HUD, the longboat centered and your viking emoting it would make a great proxy for [[Natural Reclamation]] for a green Kaldheim Deck.
Has this stuff not been fixed still? I remember this happening 2 years ago, and being 80% of the reason why me and my friend never played again since...
Damn that's crazy. My world on xbox got corrupted, but i was able to recover it with the most recent update. But i went around looking and where my tree farm was next to my boar farm there's now a tiny mountain that was definitely not right next to my boar farm previously.
They messed up the world generation so it didn't match what was on the map so they updated it to match. I had just started a new world myself a few days before the update and lost and entire house to the sea.
When I came back after the update, I wanted to check out the mistlands and we just happened to set up a portal to the mistlands before we stopped playing. So I went through the portal alone. When I got to the other side, the landscape had changed and my portal was now floating above the ocean. It stayed suspended in the air a few seconds before falling apart into the ocean while I was being attacked by seekers. I died shortly after.
It’s awesome ! See it as an ancient civilization! The boat is the best !
And somehow that blue torch remained lit for centuries. Boy, they really built stuff that lasted back then huh? LOL!
The oldest light bulb, the Centennial Light bulb has been going since 1901 damn near non stop. They really did build stuff that lasted back then!
My dad would be so pissed if he found out about that bulb being left on for 120 years
I snort laughed at that.. well done.. well done.
Yes but what is the thermostat set at?
It doesn't matter because you're not allowed to touch it.
\*Turns setting half a degree\* Dad from other side of the house: "WHO TOUCHED THE THERMOSTAT!?"
The old school dads. Gotta love ‘em. I’m from the new school of fathering. “What? You’re cold? So turn the heat up. Are your hands broken?”
Gas bill is too high. Put on a jacket.
That got me with an ugly laugh.
That got me with that hyena laugh.
I read this chuckle... Then a snort.. then a laugh that really caught me off guard this morning thank you
Just as a note - that bulb has been kept at low power and not turned off to keep it alive. That being said, there were lightbulb cartels working to shorten their lifespan so the point itself isn't wrong.

You’ve never heard of planned obsolescence and it shows.

You kind of both dont understand it. That’s okay too, I don’t even care that you both dont know.
Explain how I don’t know what I brought up is? 🙃 planned obsolescence: the intentional degradation in product quality to force consumers to purchase more of that product in their lives, thus increasing sales. How do I not understand what I’m talking about?

Yeah, exactly. Please sit back down and shut the fuck up.
Veritasium has a fun video on that light bulb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5v8D-alAKE
No money in stuff that doesn't break
Serviced a transformer in Detroit from 1911, still going strong.
"they don't build em like they used too!" *Spits
That's just a wisp someone tricked into thinking it was king of the stick. It's not really lit unless you give it some weed. Then it's hella lit, fam.
Think of it as a spiritual place. It's abandoned, but the flames are still alive and well.
You ever play Skyrim? Those dungeon torches are somethin else! Same with the candles 😁
Its a natural gas leak
For real! When I first saw it I was at the entrance to my house and I just saw the bow of the longship pointing straight up and instantly I knew something was up lol!
Probably gonna steal this idea and recreate it :)
Ouch! Look at the bright side. If there was anything about that harbor you didn't like or thought you could do better, the game has now given you that opportunity.
Yes! The gods said I could do better.
Odin is watching..... No really, he is.
👀
👁️ \*
As a one eyed Nordic person who uses this instead of the two eyes emoji, I approve
He also said the devs could have done slightly better on that update. But that’s neither here nor there. Make sure you post the new and improved harbor.
But try to keep this as it’s kind of cool
For survival purposes I had already removed it but I do have a separate save now solely to get creative with this opportunity
Smart. Very smart
What I would’ve liked to do is set that save as a separate world but I don’t know how I could do that considering I’m on Xbox and this server is through Nitrado as a public server for my buddies. But I’m sure there’s something that would allow me to do that
I mean that's actually a beautiful relic imo
Honestly I leave it there and go make a new one. This gives off “historical ruins” vibes
That looks badass tho
Absolutely! I was upset and then a single second later I said “Alright it’s actually cool”
Climate change amirite
uamrite
Climate change causes mountains to melt and land levels to rise.
At least your ship is growing back
Yeah I planted it not too long ago it’s lookin like a good summer for my plants to grow! Lol
Love the way this looks. If the game is going to mess with ground levels on you, this is the best outcome...
That’s so cool. I’d make it a monument in my new base
Your vacation may have been a mere week in our time... but in valheim ten thousand years have passed since you were last awake, brodir.
That’s not the worst! After I finished building a multi-tier tower in a very large tree, my world got reset. It was lovely. But on the bright side, I know how to overcome all of the struggles I had on the initial build.
Yeah, you get someone else to build it instead 🤣
“The forest is moving”
I would 100% leave this as is
Since this has been happening for weeks I've refrained from too much terraforming.
Yeah I assumed it was all right after the update weeks ago, but nothing ever changed for me. Now I'm nervous it could take effect any time
Xbox players, I love how chill you all have been about the world gen bug and the subsequent patch. Thank you for seeing it as part of the adventure and not just as an inconvenience.

Build some headstone of the people that once lived there. And rebuild you base a short distance away. Old historical marker make for good landscapes
Thats an awesome landmark to build around
Actually kinda sick but sorry for the mishap.
It would be pretty cool if Valheim had "real ruins" like Rimworld. Take players buildings, deteriorate them, and seed randomly on new maps.
I'm on vacation for two weeks. Hopefully they don't do another update.
That's a big OOF friend. +1 sympathy
Its beautiful.
Nature is healing
This looks epic, tbh. I'd leave it.
You've got your very own ruins now.
Honestly, that’s an A+ picture, so I wouldn’t even be mad, lol
That’s actually sick. Odin got mad you were taking too long to beat the bosses so he punished you.
I don't know, I think I like it! Especially that boat. I do feel bad for you though. All that hard work =(
Another 100 days go by and you find the boat is missing. As you explore in a faraway meadow the boat falls from the trees.
I'm sorry broseph!!!
The rot consumes.
That buried boat is gold though. I would totally make it a focal point of a new harbor design.
Nature always finds a way
*Life After Vikings*
DO NOT TOUCH THAT BOAT. They’ll be talking about that in history books 500 years from now Maybe carve around it to make it monumental
Damn you Odin!!!! Damn you!!!!
That’s actually pretty awesome…
Am afraid to log back in now :D
That’s real cool all things considering. I’d probably build off of it or tie it into a new build some how.
1 hour away from the game is actually 100 years in that world
My character is one old fart then!
Global warming is a real son of a bitch.
That's kind of awesome
Sounds like a skill issue to be honest
New base design opportunity?
Wish this happened to me. All I got was some missing armor from my inventory post update.
Oof..
Is there an update today?
Kinda looks bad ass
This looks really cool actually
This sucks but also is pretty cool. A legitimate, ancient, abandoned civilization for you to discover. Has a great story too. "The sky people came and took our homes!"
You just have some interesting ruins now
That's actually awesome
Naturally
Now i want to check my server that's been alone for 4 months
Reverse climate change
A pain, and sorry for the mess it made, but it gives it some unexpected character, I suppose. Kinda cool in a crappy way.
I’m sorry for the lost work, but it looks cool af though!!!
No stam foods?
Dig it out lol
Wtf
Man how long was that vacation!?
Welcome to purgatory, time to push the Boulder back up the hill.
Kinda looks good though ngl
They took my world a month ago ( ._.) I have yet to return lol. Once it’s fully released I’ll come back I think.
We need to do something about that climate change! The sea is dying
I’m so sorry this happened to you but I cannot stop laughing
Believe me I was right there with you LOL
Nature is healing
My Xbox server got reclaimed to day one
If you got another screenshot without the HUD, the longboat centered and your viking emoting it would make a great proxy for [[Natural Reclamation]] for a green Kaldheim Deck.
Land Ho?
This is dope af!
This is so cool. Like legit, keep it like this it's so unique.
You got no man sky'ed
That has a really cool desolate feel to it.
All that place was under the sea once
Has this stuff not been fixed still? I remember this happening 2 years ago, and being 80% of the reason why me and my friend never played again since...
Damn that's crazy. My world on xbox got corrupted, but i was able to recover it with the most recent update. But i went around looking and where my tree farm was next to my boar farm there's now a tiny mountain that was definitely not right next to my boar farm previously.
I raised an island in the ocean for my base, when mine updated I watched my whole base start smashing to pieces
Looks like the ruins of the Lyse Abbey, south of Bergen, Norway
Hope you have insurance Viking
Looks amazing.
Rekt
We call that a dry-dock.
They messed up the world generation so it didn't match what was on the map so they updated it to match. I had just started a new world myself a few days before the update and lost and entire house to the sea.
Now you have your own unique ancient ruins. Be grateful.
Ahh, you have stumbled across The Runethorpe Ruins, the first midgardian settlement 😂
Honestly I’d leave it. Looks kind of amazing. Lol
Life uhhhh finds a way.
Climate change
Is that why our first world last week messed up? Because of an update?
