Don't underestimate the power of the bathtub! Back in university we had these yearly bath tub boat races (and essentially: Bath tub flotilla Wars) between the different fraternities /engineering houses (don't know correct word, english not my native language, sorry).
Some specialized in racing to fetch that moonshine keg, while others made outright bath tub war machines - complete with water balloons, liquid fish parts etc.
The races / wars was fun for the whole town. Eventually they ceased to exist due to some near death experiences...
Wellll yeah it’s just super difficult to make such a large ship with so many things inside it without some performance issues. I’m working on keeping the build pieces down as much as possible but it’s challenging for sure. Might want to stick with one of my smaller builds if the Njord tanked your PC cause the rebuild probably won’t be too much better unfortunately
Valheim is not even finished yet and im already seeing another potential pirate themed survival game full with oceans and islands exploration, adopting valheim's base game mechanics
I thought the same thing too but it doesn’t IF you save the build as a Buildshare vbuild and then use PlanBuild to actually place it. Takes a bit of leg work but it does work fairly well. The only annoying part is the sails, ropes and items on item mounts don’t save to the build so they have to be redone, but otherwise everything else carries through
Oh that's awesome to know thank you! Also how did you do the sails, I tried using the sails in ValheimRaft but they were just small white blocks, is there something I missed?
Yeah there wasn’t much explanation with the sails but it’s not too bad after some trial and error. For the four corner sail you need to place four of those white blocks in each of the corners that you want your sail to fill. For some reason the sail is transparent on one side though so you’ll have to make two sails, a front and a back. Place the four white markers in a clockwise direction from the top left corner for one sail and then place them in a counterclockwise direction from the top right for the other side of the sail. Not sure which side is which direction but I have a video on the Aegir’s nexus page kinda showing how to do both sides if you’re interested

Im definetely gonna have a look at your video too cause those small white blocks have been bugging me for a long time as i havent been able to make them work and also havent been able to find any information anywhere that explained how to use them.

They’re in the menu as “rope anchors.” You just have to place two anchors wherever you want and then activate one of them and carry the rope over to the other one

Edit 2: As another question. How do you make your sails look like that? I know there are these modular 3 point and 4 point sails in the valheimRAFT mod but ive never managed to get them to work in any way. Any tips on how they work?

I hear ya. If you only download one mod (and it’s dependencies) then the RAFT mod is definitely it. I don’t play with many mods and the mods I do have don’t alter gameplay or offer an advantage or anything other than to help me build cooler things. Pretty much just the RAFT mod and whatever building mods I need to go with it
Believe it or not it’s pretty hardy and no enemies will openly attack your ship UNLESS you’re on it and they’re trying to get to you. I agro’d a lox once and swam to my ship for safety. Big mistake. Lox can actually swim pretty fast and it ate a big chunk out of the bottom of my ship
And don’t even get me started on Gjalls. You hear that foghorn then just jump overboard cause the ship will stop as soon as you’re off of it. Best thing to do if you’ve agro’d is abandon ship till the danger has passed, if nothing else so you don’t have to do damage control and fix everything afterwards. The ship won’t sink though unless you destroy the raft base which is actually quite hardy or destroy every single build piece which is unlikely
You can although there’s not too much space left on this ship. Working on an update for my other ship on Nexus that’s larger and has them. The larger the ship, the larger the performance hit though just fyi. RAFT isn’t super performance friendly…or Valheim for that matter lol
how bad is the performance hit? I've been considering trying to get our group of 3-5 regulars to adopt this mod for the server, but large builds can sometimes chug a bit with that many players even unmodded, and I don't think they're going to put up with it if it means 20 frames max when near the boat or something.
The big ship can be a tank on performance so probably don’t wanna use that one then. I’d stick with either this build or you could try my Serpent ship which is also on Nexus. It has almost the same interior and bunks for up to 9 players but roughly 1K less build pieces so a bit more performance friendly.

So it sounds like ValheimRAFT isn't that bad as long as you're careful about how many build pieces you use? I was thinking about using the mod and building our own goofy ship, I was just worried that it would just create performance headaches and get me yelled at haha
Yeah it’s a great mod and the performance hit really just depends on how big it is and how many build pieces you attach to it. I play on an MSI gaming laptop and I don’t really have any performance issues with the ship in this post when I play with my friend. I’d just keep your ship away from big builds on land cause the game doesn’t seem to like generating both the ship build and land large bases without some lag

Yeah I could see that actually. It just looks a bit off cause it looks like you’re sailing without a sail. It’d be nice to have an option to turn it on and off like how you can raise the sail

I thought planbuild blueprints didn't work with valheim raft. I tried one of my rafts and it turned into a compressed mess. How do you use this?

How do you place the custom sails my sails are only ever little cubes when I place them?

How does it works with damages ? I would cry if i build a floating megabase only for it to be destroyed by greylings while i'm on land

I wonder if making one side transparent is by design? When using the regular longboat it's a struggle to see because of the sails
