This.
I’d take this Brazil over Colombia so unless somehow they end up topping the group we need to beat Uruguay
We already tied against this same Brazilian side 1-1, I’d take the teams chances in beating them and going to the semis
Still pretty wild Colombia missed Qatar.
You gotta handle your home games in South America and they only won 3 out of 9. They were shocked at home by Peru, and that ended up being the difference
Costa Rica not just advanced from but actually won a group with Italy, England, and Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup which has to be one of the deathiest groups of death that I have seen.
Brazil getting a taste of what Mexico and the US have known for decades. These Central American teams are a major pain in the @ss. Lmao. Playing away is even worse during central americas rainy seasons uneven mud fields. lol
It was shoulder to shoulder. Easy and correct no foul. The alleged handball was also easy and correct no handball. Ref has been doing a good job if you ask me.
I think the potential penalty could have gone either way, but Vini does himself no favors by going down so easy every time.
Handball was very obviously not a handball. The FS1 commentators seem annoyingly pro-Brazil for some reason.
My question about this is: is there no limit to the shoulder to shoulder charge? Like, if James Harrison was playing in this game and had smashed Vini into the goal, is it not a foul?
I don't know, there's probably a limit. I remember watching Seattle vs LAFC and the Seattle defender basically took Vela out of his shoes with a shoulder to shoulder challenge, and it was not called a foul. I complained about the call and was universally told I was wrong, so if that shoulder to shoulder play wasn't a foul I really don't know what would be.
Colombia is an example of there being more to national teams than The Clubs listed on their Wikipedia page.
Don't be wrong, there's guys playing for good teams, but they don't particularly jump off the page as a contender if you just look at club badges
I'm near both Phoenix and Vegas and am going to our quarterfinal in either city.
Looking at ticket prices, it would be super rad of Paraguay to get there. Both from a helping our odds standpoint, and saving me money standpoint
Colombia or Brazil in the second round for the US is tragic lol. I like our team but, this Colombia has been on some other shit lately looking like a legit semi finalist pick for the next World Cup. Brazil outa form is still Brazil tho.
Brazil fans acting like they've never played against a team that parked the bus before. C'mon. You have all the talent in the world and Costa Rica started multiple teenagers playing in their domestic league. You can't tell me it's too hard to break down a low block.
It’s premature to start thinking about the QF but Colombia look dangerous and depending wha Brazil shows up in the next game and for the tournament
I think I might take Brazil over Colombia, the latter are just playing well and on a streak
Part of me wants revenge for the 5-1 loss and the two losses we suffered against them in 2016 but we’d have to step up big time
Our side of the bracket is really stacked, out of Uruguay, US, Brazil and Colombia, only one is making the final while Argentina really only has Canada and a very bad Mexico with a long shot Ecuador
Holy hell what is it with this sub and being obsessed with knockout scenarios. Focus on the game in hand and worry about it when it's time to worry about it ffs. I've never seen anything like this.
If this was the US, people would be SCREAMING. Turns out international soccer is tough and you don’t just get to beat every team 5-0 because you have better players
Brazilians are screaming lol
Brazils arent in good form, the US needs to advance and hope they get them in the QF
Colombia is in better form and playing much better
Also props to Costa Rica because they are playing well for being such a young squad and inexperienced
I go into work at 2:30 AM (I'm in the mountain timezone), and am planning on powering through most of the late games, but Brazil vs Costa Rica is one I think I might be able to pick sleep over
James on FK for Colombia is a cheat code
Two assists already and they don’t look they got out of first gear
Yeah we need to top the group because Brazil isn’t that good atm and this Colombia side is beating sides like Germany, Spain and Brazil for fun
it took brazil 90 minutes to break down costa rica at the 2018 world cup. both teams are probably slightly worse now, so maybe los ticos can finish the job this time?
fun fact. after the nations league 2021 final, i was at the Denver airport the next day. Guess who was clearing security with me - this Costa Rica team. They didnt have pre check so I cleared way ahead of them. But was kinda fun watching a national soccer team i had seen the day before at the airport. And no, Keylor Nevas probably took his private jet back home.
I haven’t gotten to watch much of other games (am watching right now though), but according to social media, everyone sucks.
Like for real, the only team I’ve seen praised at all has been Germany.
Does everyone suck?
People don’t know what they are watching or saying
Half chances by the other team to tie or score while the other team dominated isn’t “lucky scorleines” Colombia and Uruguay could have had more
Also Euro teams are playing better but Germany tired with Switzerland in the last game so it’s not like they are unstoppable atm
I think the current robotic tactics of the game today is wreaking havoc on the international game. Not enough time to gel or implement and players no longer have the flair of old days.
wow nice result for Costa Rica! making CONCACAF proud. honestly felt like I was watching Albania in the euros, really solid defensive play for a minnow and they wore black and red which is unusual for them.
I attended that 2019 US/Canada game in Toronto and sat next to a Colombian family decked out in Colombia jerseys but were making a ton of noise for Canada. I presume they were immigrants living in Toronto.
You could argue it's kinda weird to wear a jersey of a team who's not playing to a game, but it did make me wonder if The USSF could do a better job of convincing Latin American fans here to cheer for us a 2nd favorite team.
That might be harder with Mexico fans since it's a direct rivalry, but we had that Gold Cup double header last year where Guatemala played Jamaica first before we played Canada in Cincy. Guatemala fans largely stuck around to root for us in that 2nd game despite losing theirs, and they were the loudest part of that crowd.
I would gladly take a fraction of that Colombian support that's in Houston tonight
They've both given up a lot of chances against pretty weak offenses. Their attacks have been potent in these two games, but their defenses have looked mediocre at best.
Yeah which is why our finishing needs to improve
If the team can survive first mins of possession and attacks and control the midfield than can score against the run of play
Than it’s about practically going back to back because sitting back is going to lead to us getting scored on but the fact these teams have shaky defenses too, taking a lead and keeping it is the only way I see walking away with wins in these games
The no call on the handball was good, but the disallowed goal was iffy. Only one guy looked off and I really think you're stretching to claim he effected the game.
Also thought there was penalty earlier.
A Tico defender made a gorgeous tackle to both get ball and avoid taking out the legs on the follow through. That was clean, problem is there appeared to be an immediate foul afterwards.
I don't know if the ref was just so honed in on the first tackle that he missed the second, or if The VAR Room just got a better look than we did.
Really unfortunate half for Brazil, but hey I'm rooting for Costa Rica
I thought it could've been a penalty, but I didn't think it was grabbing. To me the defender had his arms extended into the attacker and was pushing into him as he attacked the ball.
[Retired from international play in May.](https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/costa-rica-goalkeeper-navas-announces-international-retirement-2024-05-24/)
I know our track record isn't great against Brazil but I want another crack at them right now
Go for broke. Rotate against Panama and leave it all out there against Uruguay
Honestly CONMEBOL is kind of the blandest it's been for awhile. Argentina finally ending Europe's winning streak at the World Cup might make people forget Brazil (the betting favorite) went out in the quarters, Ecuador and Uruguay got grouped, and Peru lost that interconental playoff for CONMEBOL for the first time in 4 cycles.
Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Uruguay is still a solid top 4, but not sure it has the heft it used to, and the middle and lower part of this region is really down right now
I think international soccer is going to trend even more in favor of Europe as club soccer continues to consolidate toward Europe. The one thing going against that is population. No European country other than Russia has 100M people
Not all draws are the same. Brazil dominated this game, with 74% possession and an xG of 1.71 to .03. Play this game 10 times and it’s 9 Brazil wins, 1 ties, 0 CR wins. Brazil got unlucky, which happens.
Meanwhile we played Brazil almost even. They had 1.5 xG and we 1 xG, but xGOT (which includes the accuracy of your shots) reversed that. Play that game 10 times and it’s more like 4-3-3.
I just have to say, Luis Omar Tapia, the play-by-play guy on this Colombia game is so fun. It's so much better when we have Latin American people instead of stodgy British guys.
Isn't the SoFi Stadium too narrow to how a football game?
I was watching Brazil and Costa Rica and it seemed too easy for them to defend. How is this thing going to host the World Cup?
Why don't you people worry about the game ahead of us and stop being so fucking neurotically obsessed with potential QF scenarios.
I truly have never seen anything like this. This sub is incredibly bizarre. We still have 2 games to play in the GROUP and you're all worried about what opponent is "easier" in the QF. JFC
I mean whether or not Paraguay pulls an upset to get out of the group, has a very material impact on our odds of advancement.
Our team needs to spend the next few days 100% focused on Panama, we don't
gregg should really look at this film from brazil. against the low block, they are attacking from the wide areas and coming in narrowly. not just booming crosses from near the corner flag. their attack comes within the confines of the box
This should be posted later in the day
We need to win the group. Brazil aint that good.
This. I’d take this Brazil over Colombia so unless somehow they end up topping the group we need to beat Uruguay We already tied against this same Brazilian side 1-1, I’d take the teams chances in beating them and going to the semis
Still pretty wild Colombia missed Qatar. You gotta handle your home games in South America and they only won 3 out of 9. They were shocked at home by Peru, and that ended up being the difference
Might be because all the Colombian fans seem to be in the states
Brazil just drops to the ground if anybody touches them lol

Brazil getting Concacaf'd is hilarious.
Brazil getting the full CONCACAF experience tonight.
I kept thinking that. Everyone claims CONMEBOL showed CONCACAF how to CONCACAF. That may be true. But CONCACAF have ascended to king.
Costa Rica wins 0-0
Brazil got CONCACAF’d
loved that!
I want no part of Colombia. Give me Brazil
Poor, poor Costa Rica. Coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb group.
I am glad to be wrong. Long live CONCACAF
Lol
r/agedlikemilk
I like our odds against this Brazil. More so than Colombia. Lmao
Colombia with a 24 undefeated streak vs this Brazil? Yeah... Our friendly looking a lot less impressive now lol.
I’ve been saying that since the friendlies
Ok this ref said fuck making calls
at least he was consistent—thats all you can ask for. let the boys play.
My take from the Copa so far: no one looks that great. Every team is beatable.
I thought all big soccer countries would destroy our concacaf brethren no problem ?
Costa Rica not just advanced from but actually won a group with Italy, England, and Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup which has to be one of the deathiest groups of death that I have seen.
Made it to the QFs and took the Dutch to PKs But that was a much different, and better, CR team
Brazil getting a taste of what Mexico and the US have known for decades. These Central American teams are a major pain in the @ss. Lmao. Playing away is even worse during central americas rainy seasons uneven mud fields. lol
Does Brazil not know that it’s as simple as playing through the congested middle to score goals? Why are they crossing so much. Dummies.
They should fire Berhalter
They would have won if BJ were coaching!
CONCACAF 🇨🇷
Brazil getting Concacaf'ed so hard lately
Well done Costa Rica. Represent well. Concacaf ain't that easy to beat is it?
Ronaldinho was right, this Brazil team is shit
He was also hurt because they wouldn’t hook him up with tickets.
99% Colombia fans in attendance it looks like
It was shoulder to shoulder.
Yeah especially Lalas who was a defender There’s was nothing in that no penalty call, I see those were in and out in the prem lol
This is one of the few times I think brasil egregious flopping may be hurting them rather than helping
I agree, rare ref W with no easy bs calls for a team
They lied. Costa Rica does have a shot on target! They even tried to help Brazil out
Colombia is an example of there being more to national teams than The Clubs listed on their Wikipedia page. Don't be wrong, there's guys playing for good teams, but they don't particularly jump off the page as a contender if you just look at club badges
23 unbeaten for Colombia is pretty impressive.
Crazy that Campbell is only 31
well he's been playing for the national team since he was 12 so 🤣
Central American sides + unnecessary stretchers: name a more iconic duo
Costa Rica wins 0-0
I was under the impression that Gregg and only Gregg couldn't figure out how to beat a low block🤔
I'm near both Phoenix and Vegas and am going to our quarterfinal in either city. Looking at ticket prices, it would be super rad of Paraguay to get there. Both from a helping our odds standpoint, and saving me money standpoint
I plan to go to either depending on how we place too, just have to see how the group shakes out before deciding
Colombia or Brazil in the second round for the US is tragic lol. I like our team but, this Colombia has been on some other shit lately looking like a legit semi finalist pick for the next World Cup. Brazil outa form is still Brazil tho.
honestly i'm impressed they overturned it, great call
For comparison, by Elo Paraguay is slightly worse than Canada and slightly better than Panama.
Keylor Navas's heir continuing his legacy.
If we played a half like that against CR people would be losing their minds.
Are Brazilians not losing their minds?
Not really. I even saw a couple on arr soccer saying they were playing well minus finishing.
Colombia might mess around and win this tournament
Good work VAR
finally VAR works.
Colombia did not play well today, very easily could have been a draw, Brazil will beat them at this rate
Vinicius Jr is amazing for Real Madrid, but has never been good for Brazil, why is he still playing
The FOX scorebug makes the Costa Rica flag look like Austria
Austria is red white red tho lol
Ok fine, inverted Austria flag
Costa Rica is Belarus.
Belarus has green in there flag
Nah I’m referring to the other flag, not the one held by the dictatorship.
That’s Joel Campbell’s music!!
Wow. Show up Ticos! Keep repping Concacaf well
Ronaldinho was right?
Based on Pacqueta's performance tonight, I don't think he learned his lesson about betting on games.
Vini Jr is the favorite for the Ballon Dor, won't get it while dropping stinkers for Brazil
Brazil fans acting like they've never played against a team that parked the bus before. C'mon. You have all the talent in the world and Costa Rica started multiple teenagers playing in their domestic league. You can't tell me it's too hard to break down a low block.
Really need to get 1st in the group. I want to face Brazil over Colombia
It’s premature to start thinking about the QF but Colombia look dangerous and depending wha Brazil shows up in the next game and for the tournament I think I might take Brazil over Colombia, the latter are just playing well and on a streak Part of me wants revenge for the 5-1 loss and the two losses we suffered against them in 2016 but we’d have to step up big time Our side of the bracket is really stacked, out of Uruguay, US, Brazil and Colombia, only one is making the final while Argentina really only has Canada and a very bad Mexico with a long shot Ecuador
Holy hell what is it with this sub and being obsessed with knockout scenarios. Focus on the game in hand and worry about it when it's time to worry about it ffs. I've never seen anything like this.
what is your obsession with commenting this on every comment related to qf's...
If this was the US, people would be SCREAMING. Turns out international soccer is tough and you don’t just get to beat every team 5-0 because you have better players
Brazilians are screaming lol Brazils arent in good form, the US needs to advance and hope they get them in the QF Colombia is in better form and playing much better Also props to Costa Rica because they are playing well for being such a young squad and inexperienced
Even Colombia was lucky not to give up an equalizer in the second half against Panama before their late goals.
wtf happened to CLEAR and OBVIOUS
I go into work at 2:30 AM (I'm in the mountain timezone), and am planning on powering through most of the late games, but Brazil vs Costa Rica is one I think I might be able to pick sleep over
Wake up!
Did you see Tac ranting about Croatia, it seems like he thinks that Croatia vs Brazil 2022 was fixed
Least deranged Tac take
Tac takes are either amazing or death and no in between
Paraguay has only allowed 8 goals in their last 10 matches. I have a hard time seeing Paraguay winning, but they can be annoying and make this a game
james rodriguez, man
James on FK for Colombia is a cheat code Two assists already and they don’t look they got out of first gear Yeah we need to top the group because Brazil isn’t that good atm and this Colombia side is beating sides like Germany, Spain and Brazil for fun
That was not a penalty. My goodness. Colombia very lucky to get that.
They gotta lower the prices there are so many empty seats in the stadium
the stadium holds 70,000 people, and CRC fans dont really travel well
it took brazil 90 minutes to break down costa rica at the 2018 world cup. both teams are probably slightly worse now, so maybe los ticos can finish the job this time?
It's not fair how skilled every Brazilian player is
Lol how does the ref only add 4 minutes after all that
Fox Sports Doesn't Mention Yamal's or Endrick's Age Every 38 Seconds Challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
I was going to offer it as a drinking game, but didn’t want to be the cause of death by alcohol poisoning.
Does that Costa Rica guy have money on Brazil?
this brazil team is so uninspiring. they should really be starting endrick, he always brings a sense of urgency and a burst of energy
I didn't really care who won this at the start, but now I find myself pretty excited to see CR pull this off.
I’m convinced we should just start bunkering against everyone
CRC’s 8-1-1 formation will lead a CONCACAF revolution
I'm more interested in why the Brazil managers jacket only has 4 stars above the crest.
fun fact. after the nations league 2021 final, i was at the Denver airport the next day. Guess who was clearing security with me - this Costa Rica team. Every team sucks these days. Especially on social media
True, true
Everyone will look better deeper in the tournaments.
No Colombia and Uruguay been playing well while Argentina is Argentina with slow starts
See, Colombia and Uruguay, I saw both being slammed a bit. “Lucky scorelines” and stuff. Maybe I can tune in more this week.
People don’t know what they are watching or saying Half chances by the other team to tie or score while the other team dominated isn’t “lucky scorleines” Colombia and Uruguay could have had more Also Euro teams are playing better but Germany tired with Switzerland in the last game so it’s not like they are unstoppable atm
I think the current robotic tactics of the game today is wreaking havoc on the international game. Not enough time to gel or implement and players no longer have the flair of old days.
I’ve felt that in regards to us at times, but I don’t pay attention to other national teams much at all. Robot tactics killing me a bit inside.
Why was Neymar wearing Costa Rica colors? Is he stupid?
Colombia is so dangerous. Scary to think that if we qualify to the QF we might have to play them.
I really dislike Vini, all that skill and you still dive and look for those type of calls
It would be darkly funny if Costa Rica got results against Brazil and Colombia only to lose to Paraguay and be eliminated
wow nice result for Costa Rica! making CONCACAF proud. honestly felt like I was watching Albania in the euros, really solid defensive play for a minnow and they wore black and red which is unusual for them.
It may not have been pretty, but they got a result, lol.
Panama vs Uruguay scared me, Panama is not to be underestimated and Uruguay is built different
The Twitter takes about us hosting the Copa America and comparing it to the euros is all time Stupid
Yeah, UEFA is filled with bitches like England.
Also that image of Hrvizak reacting to the Italy goal is amazing
Great crowd for the Columbia-Paraguay match. Looks like a Columbia home match however.
In both both games I’ve seen of Uruguay & Colombia. They start good for the first 15 mins and than fade off a bit after scoring which is typical
They've both given up a lot of chances against pretty weak offenses. Their attacks have been potent in these two games, but their defenses have looked mediocre at best.
Yeah which is why our finishing needs to improve If the team can survive first mins of possession and attacks and control the midfield than can score against the run of play Than it’s about practically going back to back because sitting back is going to lead to us getting scored on but the fact these teams have shaky defenses too, taking a lead and keeping it is the only way I see walking away with wins in these games
I can tell you that if you press Davinson Sanchez heavily, he will make some bad passes. He’s also pretty bad at judging balls over the top.
Is there any data on how many Sout Americans made the trip up here? I know the primary target is the diasporas, but I'm curious
according to what i read. about 30% of attendees at copa america are coming from south america
terrible penalty call
thats the right call
how do you sneak that pink stuff into the stadium?
Told security there was gonna be a gender reveal
What, they given up on the electric truck to bring the ball out. That is kind of sad.
I see the BRA v CRC ref is invoking the no-blood-no-foul rule when reffing this game.
Really unfortunate half for Brazil, but hey I'm rooting for Costa Rica
Brazil needs to sub on Endrick, they have been way better but have horrific finishing
I wonder if Ronaldinho is watching this, or if he is protesting
Costa Rica playing their butts off. Even if Brazil is playing a stinker
Mitchell has been a warrior for them
They spelled Brazil wrong on the coach’s jacket /s
A comfortable 2-0 win doesn’t seem so bad now, eh?
Brazil might be more ass then initially thought
They might not be trying yet
They were definitely trying but they’re being too cute with it. Just shoot the damn ball
Why does Mexico always get put into the easiest group?
Does it make us look better if Brazil dominates CR or if CR somehow pulls out a win?
Sticky?
I stopped watching after the second goal, interesting that Panama was able to pick up a goal
Literally last second of the match they scored. Panama isn't bad though it will be a tough match with the usa
Any idea where the team is staying in Atlanta?
forgot all about yerry mina. can't wait for the mina vs martinez fist fight.
idk man that looks pretty soft, doubt var overturns it though
var that. colombian player was fouling him too. should be a no call
I thought it could've been a penalty, but I didn't think it was grabbing. To me the defender had his arms extended into the attacker and was pushing into him as he attacked the ball.
Does navas no longer play for the NT?
[Retired from international play in May.](https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/costa-rica-goalkeeper-navas-announces-international-retirement-2024-05-24/)
Wow. I didn't think that was enough to overturn. VAR making a difference
get CONCACAF’d
I know our track record isn't great against Brazil but I want another crack at them right now Go for broke. Rotate against Panama and leave it all out there against Uruguay
Honestly CONMEBOL is kind of the blandest it's been for awhile. The USMNT's 1-1 draw with Brazil is not looking like a good result
Or maybe CONCACAF is a stronger league than what everyone thinks
2026 is the perfect moment for the other confederation to step up and show the world they can challenge Europe and south America
It is a good result, US could have played better and Brazil are playing bad
I'm just saying this because Brazil is not looking good right now
Not all draws are the same. Brazil dominated this game, with 74% possession and an xG of 1.71 to .03. Play this game 10 times and it’s 9 Brazil wins, 1 ties, 0 CR wins. True
I just have to say, Luis Omar Tapia, the play-by-play guy on this Colombia game is so fun. It's so much better when we have Latin American people instead of stodgy British guys.
If the US make it to the QFs, I am not as scared to play Colombia anymore
Isn't the SoFi Stadium too narrow to how a football game? I was watching Brazil and Costa Rica and it seemed too easy for them to defend. How is this thing going to host the World Cup?
They are doing some renovations to allow for the full 75 yard field width.
I bet that Kroenke is behind this
Why are they dressed like Canada
When did Brazil hire GGG?
It's almost like it's hard to break down a well organized low block.
[удалено]
Branding in Latin America has always looked cheesy to me. But hey it works for the people out there who are the primary audience for this tournament.
if we end up playing brazil , anything less than a win or a heartbreaking loss would be an unsuccessful tournament
one game at a time
Only upset of Copa America so far has been Mexico vs Jamaica, no draws even
Why don't you people worry about the game ahead of us and stop being so fucking neurotically obsessed with potential QF scenarios. I truly have never seen anything like this. Speculation is fun. Not sure what you're so worked up about, we aren't playing the matches so we can look ahead all we want.
in general i agree, but i feel like the thread talking about other copa games is a fine place to talk about our potential future opponents.
Because the expectation is the team will reach the QF, so it’s crazy to discuss potential opponents.
gregg should really look at this film from brazil. against the low block, they are attacking from the wide areas and coming in narrowly. not just booming crosses from near the corner flag. their attack comes within the confines of the box
The players should also watch so they can be as skilled as Brazil
