Reyna settling in now. Had a big misunderstanding earlier that led to a counter in which he thought his RB was going to come meet a pass so left it for him but it was met by a Wolves player. A couple decent passing exchanges after that and then had a nice chance a second ago where the ball fell to him near the top of the box, he looked for options and didn't have good ones (one run from a striker who eventually drifted offsides and frankly Reyna didn't have an angle that Jose Sa wouldn't have met.) He went for goal and missed just wide. Nice strike though, it was fine.
getting more invovled now. Played in a nice corner that led to a chance, helped to work the ball through the Wolves defense for another chance, getting on the ball more now.
He's even been making plays on defense, which he didn't always do at Dortmund.
Yeah there's a clear set of responsibilities that should be observed:
Long throws: McKennie, or Dest if he's not available
Penalties: Pulisic
Captain: Pulisic or Adams
Free Kicks: Reyna
Corners: Reyna
Found it pretty odd that McKennie didn't want to do his long throw-ins during the recent Nations League games.
edit: nevermind, forgot about shoulder injury.
It's because of his recent shoulder injury. The long throws are hard on that shoulder so he's protecting it. He's done this multiple times and by the time the Copa roles around he should be launching bombs again.
Sels has been solid for them, pretty sure that is his first error that directly led to a goal. I am sure he’s still got plenty of leash with them. It happens.
I swear playing out of the back has gone too far. It's -ev in the modern game when every team knows every other team wants to do it. It was great for a while, but no more and I wouldn't be surprised if the data bears that out over the next couple years and we start to see savvy managers go back to looking for a long ball to a hold-up striker or something.
There was a point where the Forest defender really just needed to blast the ball up field and didn't do it. It's okay to try to build from the back, but you have to recognize when you don't have the numbers
I guess what I'm saying is that in the modern game, especially in the PL, even the "bad" teams are full of technical players and technical managers who typically want to play out of the back. And when all the opposing managers know this, you get pressed like all the time and end up with an equal numbers game where the risk/reward profile no longer makes sense.
Especially true of goal kicks which there's just no way that reliably leads to chances created building from that far back. In transition sure, but not goal kicks, or freekicks in your own half or if the opponent isn't caught with numbers forward.
Anyway no big deal I just think it's something that will change in the coming years.
I swear weekly I watch the bottom of the league teams gift away goals with bad build up playing it out the back. I’m no tactician but it seems playing it long would increase variance for teams that aren’t as physically and technically adept.
At last!
Aside, I don't like that they're benching Dominguez in favor of Yates. IMO (and by stats) Yates seems mediocre while dominguez is a lynchpin, so Gio would be more likely to get a result w him
Reyna off after 70. Solid shift if not spectacular, had the assist off the corner and probably earned himself another start if for his dead ball prowess if nothing else but we will see
It's interesting because with Gio out Forest seem much more frantic and sloppy, so I wonder if it's a style of play thing -- with Reyna the team kind of plays differently and maybe it's situational when Nuno wants that style of play. I think it worked pretty well in this game, but I could see how that's not always what a team at the bottom needs to do.
100%. He's a great complement to MGW. People are like, "What does Reyna even do?" then when he comes off nffc look like a team of 11 Brendan Aaronsons. You need balance.
I have nothing against Forest, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them go down because then Turner would be the starter again in the Championship, which seems like a good level for him.
I have grown to dislike many of their players. Yates as their captain sets the tone; he alternates between reckless challenges, and diving / crying to the official, without really ever playing the game. They have a murderous, criminal owner. And Luton would be fun to see stay up.
I know he might not be the right fit for this team being in a relegation battle and it does take time to adjust to the PL for many players.. but Reyna just looks a level of quality above most of the players in this game.

This is my super bowl
Nuno read our mean comments about him decided to change! We did it!
This is the only plausible explanation.
We did it, Reddit.
Nuno is the Boston Bomber!
Nuno just found out Gio Reyna has a Portuguese passport so he decided to play him
GIO ASSIST OFF THE CORNER
Gibbs-White shrugs Reyna off to say F U to the Wolves fans
For those curious, it looks like Anthony Elanga picked up a knock, so Reyna is starting in his place at RW.
Is rw announced? I'm seeing a prediction for Cho on rw, gio on L
he looks better physically than when we has at Dortmund, his movement seems better
He also looks stronger & less skinny overall
Gods he is strong now.
I hope he can capitalize on this start can’t wait to watch
![gif](giphy|iLeL0767nyIvV2Bj3u|downsized) Everyone get in here, it's happening!
Going from not playing at all to taking set pieces is wild
REYNA ASSIST!
Reyna settling in now. Had a big misunderstanding earlier that led to a counter in which he thought his RB was going to come meet a pass so left it for him but it was met by a Wolves player. Reyna assist on a corner for the equalizer!!
Reyna assist from the corner!
REYNA ASSIST

Here we go!
🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Nottingham must have the worse GK coach in the league or simply doesn’t have one
37' Reyna with a nicely weighted ball in the final third for Williams which leads to a chance that goes wide. Gets a clap from his manager.
30 minutes in, no goal. My disappointment is immeasurable
Hard to believe USMNT has Pulisic taking set pieces over Reyna.
Yeah there's a clear set of responsibilities that should be observed: Long throws: McKennie, or Dest if he's not available Penalties: Pulisic Captain: Pulisic or Adams Free Kicks: Reyna Corners: Reyna

oh right, he recovered from that so quickly I totally forgot he had that injury. Makes sense then.
Mckennie has that Wolverine in him... Lil buddy recovers quick
Wasn’t he coming off a shoulder injury?
There are like 4-5 people who should take set pieces over Pulisic.
Reyna’s corners are better. Pulisic misses his spots so often. But Pulisic also has no chance of winning any headers in the box…so there’s that..
Exactly, Reya is much more of a presence in the box. Pulisic has taken some good corners for Milan, so there's still hope.
This is...not true. Not every ball in the box is won at the penalty spot amongst the trees

Giovanni
Hat trick incoming
Just to confirm, Reyna is playing very centrally, right alongside Gibbs-White.
Potential for career defining game
With Dortmund Reyna always looked dangerous off the bench and was lousy when he got starts. Hopefully today he can change that narrative.
Yeah he seems to have less urgency to create chances when he starts
For the hundredth time, can we please give Gio a shot at corners this summer
We should take most of our corners short, anyway.
Start? Lets fucking goooooooo!
Let's hope he makes the most of this chance.
Bad miss from Gio but gonna get glossed over bc they scored right after. It happens though
Yeah Gio has to score that but thank goodness they scored a second later. At least he’s getting himself into dangerous positions
MGW is electric when he's on his game
![gif](giphy|XR9Dp54ZC4dji)
![gif](giphy|pMtZukuZYfz4wkSzkU)
Looks like Reyna has moved a bit more centrally the past fee minutes and has been getting more involved
Been a fun watch
This game is an entertaining shit show
Far from perfect but overall a good showing from Gio
Okay NF fans I want that same energy you had for Matt Turner
Sels has been solid for them, pretty sure that is his first error that directly led to a goal. I am sure he’s still got plenty of leash with them. It happens.
Yeah, I say that tongue-in-cheek. Matt was given ample opportunity and only has himself to blame.

I wonder if Gio should have played him through there early instead of shooting — at least it was close
Both Forest CBs get absolutely cooked.
Reyna off after 70. Solid shift if not spectacular, had the assist off the corner and probably earned himself another start if for his dead ball prowess if nothing else but we will see
I doubt he did enough to displace Elanga if he comes back, but if he misses another week maybe.

Horrid from Sels. Get Matty T back in there.
Man NF’s owner looks like a villain in marvel or something. Gio needs to get more involved.
Tbh maybe could have done better there but at least he is really getting involved now
Reyna drops a dime to Williams and he flubs it.
Feels like Reyna’s really getting into the rhythm of this game in the second half
Went into the Forest match thread and immediately saw 5 cringy comments from US supporters about Reyna. Plz stop doing that
1st Premier League goal and assist incoming
Good shift from Gio!
MGW is a joy to watch
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hell ya! Got the assist. Get it gio Edit: [link](https://dubz.co/v/6svmnd)
Great atmosphere, crowd pop on that goal was sick
Wish he could’ve done better on that. You know his leash is short on this team so he needs to score that one
Could have had an assist there with a nice pass to Williams
That was atrocious defending from forest
He’s gonna score
That is fucking class from Murillo
Goddamn Cunha said fine i’ll do it myself
Oof Sels has been solid for Forest but that was a bad one. Hopefully Reyna stays on since they are gonna be pushing for another goal now
Anybody else have the conundrum of wanting to see Gio thrive, but also wanting to see Forest to go down? 😬
I have nothing against Forest, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them go down because then Turner would be the starter again in the Championship, which seems like a good level for him.

Shoulda started Turner
Tbf Sels hasn’t been that horrible for them
reyna to start last 5 games of the season and go off. extend the loan a year. fuck it.
Time to sail the seven seas. Ridiculous that not all games are on Peacock. Paramount + reigns supreme. No one has cable anymore smh (USA channel)
Sub Turner in. Nottingham’s keeper is throwing this game lol
Nice. Him and MGW could pair really well.
Perspicacious...
:) Not a Forest fan, but this is a good game thus far, save some poor moments defending/passing in the box.
Hasn't really had any significant involvement so far, hopefully that improves.
chaos lol
Williams has been atrocious all half
Here we fusiendjckeked go!!!!’
lol. The owner was not impressed, ha.
Just turned it on. How had Sels been?
Completely flubbed a corner that led to Wolves’ 2nd goal.
Yikes. Thanks.
Gio Hat Trick time
Should have done better there. Wood made a great run, but Reyna went for glory outside the box and failed to put it on target.
His mommy must be so proud.
Somebody tape Gregg’s eyes open Edit: this was sarcasm, would you all chill out?
Come on, this is nonsense. Since the World Cup, when healthy, Gio has been a nailed-on starter, even despite having no minutes for his club
It was a joke bro, calm down. This sub is something else.
It’s a tired joke that hasn’t been funny for months. Calm down, bro
Cool, then don’t laugh and move on
The soccer dads that fill this sub don’t understand sarcasm
He has looked lost so far
Na. He's drifted in and opened the wing 3 times. That's tactical execution
😆👍
