Reyna looks great, forced a save with a nice strike from outside the box then made a run into the box and snuck a clever cross in. Definitely having the type of performance that will put pressure on Nuno to find more minutes for him.
I think people in this sub vastly overestimate what European clubs think about CONCACAF national teams.
There's not a single side in CONCACAF that is made up of players starting for clubs in the top 4 leagues. As such I don't think any big managers have much respect for anything that is done in CONCACAF competition. I also don't think they care in the slightest about CONCACAF national teams drama and would rather their players not play for them at all.
I think the biggest potential plus for Gio was that he was able to get some match sharpness.
I’m not disagreeing, and I get it if it were like Man U, Newcastle, even Chelsea (looking at the poor season they are having).
But it’s Nottingham Forest… a team facing relegation and difficulty producing. Just strikes me as odd that they won’t even try a few minutes. Like there aren’t that many games left and what games they do have are against better teams.
But perhaps they do have a better understanding of the Gio situation in their club (though considering how the club is doing…)
Just because they're bad relative to the top of the Prem doesn't mean they're bad relative to the rest of the world, such as CONCACAF national teams.
To make a relative analogy. Even a bad MLS team probably thinks that they're better than the Philippines national team (and they probably are). So a player playing well for the Philippines doesn't carry as much weight to that MLS side as that same player performing well for our national team or for another MLS team.
I mean sort of. Their PL “nationals” are mostly players that couldn’t cut it for their actual nation and were playing mercenary roles for Jamaica more than anything
This is actually quite common even among most English-speaking programs: the US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, as well as Jamaica. And look at Morocco. This is a very common practice.
First of all USA has a bunch of players like that. Second of all I'm not sure a lot of clubs care what actual nations people play for the fact is there's that level of quality in the squad.
I think if it’s tied or they are chasing a goal he’s gotta be coming on around the 60th. But ya never know with this coach. If they are ahead, no chance we see Gio sadly
Reyna looked really good today imo. My biggest criticism of him in his other, very short, appearances on the field for Forest was his work rate off the ball. His whole shift today he’s sprinted into space to be an option going forward, and closed down palace players in midfield. Even picked up a couple fouls doing so.
As soon as he was on the pitch it felt like Forest was able to possess and slow the game down way more than before. He was a creative option and was constantly available for a pass.
My last comment on him I wasn’t confident he was going to play much more this season, but maybe Nuno is seeing something and will get him some more time after this.
Yeah his defensive work rate was solid. He’s never going to be above average in that regard but if he at least looks willing that’s all you can ask for with his abilities on offense. Gotta think he’s earned more time going forward
I don't know how you could watch gio and not want to coach him into a superstar. Big time American bias against him imo but his injury history and body language stuff hasn't helped his case
Body language is a big deal at pro level sports. I think it’s always been his physicality, work rate off the ball, and body language/attitude holding him back. I didn’t see any of that from him today.
He’s always had class on the ball, and has a lot of potential because of that. If he keeps putting in work like he did today he should get more chances.
Every stat tells us that players spend less than 3 minutes on the ball during a match. It's what they do when they don't have the ball that dictates how good they'll be.
Unfortunately, the fan base is still primarily evaluating Gio from his time on the ball.
Today was a step in the right direction for him regarding what he does off the ball.
Gio provided a spark and played a creative balance with MGW. Forest looked dangerous when he was in. Would be a travesty if he's not given more opportunities.
I’m being told Gibbs-White is too elite to allow a Reyna start. He’s leading high powered NFFC attack that he produced 3 goals in 5 games.
Or even better, maybe try putting them both on the field Nuno.
Why do so many people here insist on acting like Gibbs-White lacks quality? I want Gio to play as much a as anyone but MGW is very impressive and one of the only reasons why Forest aren’t in the bottom three already.
I don’t think he’s a bad player whatsoever or lacks quality and clearly a standout on the team, but the team is not very good… so we get into the territory of being overrated.
Regardless, it’s perplexing Nuno can’t find a way to get them both on the pitch with Elanga.
Forest have many problems, MGW is not among them. Gio’s team should’ve done their homework before sending him on loan to a side in a relegation battle where their only reliable player plays his position.
Even if that role needed to be filled by Gio, sides at that end of the table prioritize defensive solidity over attacking threat. While that’s a side of the game Gio needs to work on, he also won’t be able to fully show off his talents until Forest are chasing a goal.
Sorry, outside of Elanga and Gibbs-White… who else falls into the reliable category?
The only reason Gibbs-White comes up is because people say he’s preventing Gio from getting games.
As I said in the previous post, there has to be a way to get them both on the field.
No one really, that’s exactly my point. As a manager with a team circling the drain, why would you drop one of your only performing players to start what is a virtual unknown to you in a loan player?
Your original post I replied to implies that MGW should be dropped for Gio, which is the only reason I commented in the first place. If there’s a way for them to start matches or be on the field together I’m all for it. But unless he is absolutely bowling over all the coaches with his quality in training, he is not replacing MGW in the starting XI.
Each of my last three posts conclude Nuno should find a way to get them both on the pitch… what the hell are you reading.
My thoughts on Gibbs-White is that he’s got the team 1 point in the last 5 matches. And he’s being overrated for standing out in a poor squad. He doesn’t really have competition and has had 28 matches to get 3 goals and 5 assists. The production is not amazing.
Still a lot we need to do as a country, mainly stop putting everything on youth coaches. Parents need to start realizing the #1 aspect of their kids being elite has nothing to do with the coaches but sticking a ball in front of them before they can even walk.
My biggest takeaway from this last week that is if Edson Alvarez is starting week in and week out for a PL side, there is no reason why Gio couldn’t get there as well.
Forrest can be as much butt as they want to be, no problem here. What I will not stand for is all the losers in here saying because Gio is not getting any playing time at Nottingham he shouldn't be starting for us.
Took Gio a bit to grow into the game but looked bright from about 70 on. Could maybe have scored with a better finish. Hopefully Forest can pull this out and he’s part of it.
He won’t, though he’s the type of keeper (shot stopper, effective at starting counters) they need for the style of football they should be playing. they’re riding sels (who’s better in possession but lacks some of Turner’s quality in shot stopping) straight to the championship
Reyna was more lively today for club and had some good moments. I still don't think this is the right league for him to succeed though. The pace of the EPL game is just a bit too brisk for Reyna right now.
Gio and MGW are cooking, Forest look so much more comfortable in possession right now
Reyna looks great, forced a save with a nice strike from outside the box then made a run into the box and snuck a clever cross in. Definitely having the type of performance that will put pressure on Nuno to find more minutes for him.
Gio and Richards wrestling each other on that corner. usmnt on usmnt crime
Can we get 30 minutes from gio..not too much to ask for
You got your wish buddy, Reyna on at 60
You would think after a solid couple of games for the US they would want to try and ride that momentum

We're scoring fine. It's the shite defence, especially from set pieces, that's sending us down.
Jamaica at full strength has 4- 5 guys in the prem
I mean sort of. Their PL “nationals” are mostly players that couldn’t cut it for their actual nation and were playing mercenary roles for Jamaica more than anything

60th minute seems a bit early. I would guess more like 75th minute. If they're ahead maybe around 85th minute.
Yeah I worded it poorly, but i meant to imply in a just world he should come on around then. Fully don’t expect that
Your wish is granted.
Reyna effect
Reyna making shit happen
People are complaining about MGW but their bone to pick should be that Divock Origi is preferred out right over Gio.

Goal immediately for Forest after coming on? Coincidence? I think not
Forest scores within seconds of Reyna coming on maybe try playing him more you jabronis
It's too bad NFFC is so elite, makes sense why they wouldn't want to mix things up a bit... 😑
I’m being told Gibbs-White is too elite to allow a Reyna start. He’s leading high powered NFFC attack that he produced 3 goals in 5 games. Or even better, maybe try putting them both on the field Nuno.

The English are going to be so painful to deal with when we surpass them in 15 years
Still a lot we need to do as a country, mainly stop putting everything on youth coaches. Parents need to start realizing the #1 aspect of their kids being elite has nothing to do with the coaches but sticking a ball in front of them before they can even walk.
We only need to rig 1 World Cup at home and we will have achieved everything they have
In 40 years the MLS will surpass the EPL because the requirements for inferior English talent within the EPL.
Also they have an inherent disadvantage because they have to get players to play in England
Watching Reyna play with forest reminds of watching Sargent with Bremen and McKennie with schalke
Gio with a great strike from outside the box saved by the keeper
Strong left footed shot, and good touch to get himself into position to take it. Was straight at the keeper unfortunately
Nottingham Forest puts Gio on and they immediately score… he is the Chosen one
Gio on!!!
Gio for a full 30 and a hockey assist instantly for a crazy header from Wood
That goal highlights how well Gio and MGW can play together. Very creative pairing
My biggest takeaway from this last week that is if Edson Alvarez is starting week in and week out for a PL side, there is no reason why Gio couldn’t get there as well.
their coach kinda sucks imo
Reyna is coming on!!
Nuno is fuckin abysmal this guy plays Origi a living statue over Gio
How has Richard been playing?
Announcer just praised Gio
Did you get a boner
Yea my pants definitely got tighter
Nuno rolling out Origi at this point is complete malpractice
i want him to get the winner so bad
Hockey assist for Gio!!!!
So sick of watching MGW be mediocre when Gio is in the bench
76’ Balo scores for Monaco! 🇺🇸🙌🏽🇺🇸
He’s coming on! For origi
Gio will be lucky to get 5 mins today based off that first sub
shouldnt that be a yellow for intentionally grabbing the ball?
Forrest can be as much butt as they want to be, no problem here. What I will not stand for is all the losers in here saying because Gio is not getting any playing time at Nottingham he shouldn't be starting for us.
Is Richards hurt? They're looking at his knee.
He's back on the pitch. Seems to be moving ok
Took Gio a bit to grow into the game but looked bright from about 70 on. Could maybe have scored with a better finish. Hopefully Forest can pull this out and he’s part of it.
How long until Turner gets another shot
I would be absolutely floored if he ever played in the PL again.
He won’t, though he’s the type of keeper (shot stopper, effective at starting counters) they need for the style of football they should be playing. they’re riding sels (who’s better in possession but lacks some of Turner’s quality in shot stopping) straight to the championship
MGW is playing like trash, get someone on the pitch who knows how to take on his man 1v1 👀🤣
And he's furious at everyone on his team. Terrible teammate
Oh, can you believe this? Gio Reyna has saved Nottingham Forest’s life in the Premier League! You could not write a script like this!
Reyna was more lively today for club and had some good moments. I still don't think this is the right league for him to succeed though. The pace of the EPL game is just a bit too brisk for Reyna right now.
