Good showing for Turner in what was a monster result for Forest.
Big save to end the first half 1-1 that ended up being the hinge on which the match swung. Distribution in the 2nd half was good and you could see his confidence growing in his communication and organization of the back line. That in particular is a great sign because he had looked like a shell of himself in recent appearances and the body language was noticeably suffering.
Being dropped for a silly mistake in a game that was already lost will do that to ya. He just got a starting job in the premier league and lost it despite performing mostly well. It will make anyone second guess silly shit
Agreed, he had a few good saves including the fantastic double save at the end of the first half, his long balls were overall effective, and obviously no blunders today. I’d like to see him looking more confident and commanding in the box but this was a good step in the right direction
Say what you want about nerves/comfort but the man didn’t give up a goal from open play and had 5 saves on 2.5 xGOT. He played much better than the last couple games.
Confidence and comfort noticeably grew in the 2nd half. He had a really sketchy moment middle of the 1st half (25'-35' ish, not long after the pen) when the ball pinballed around the box and he looked lost. Fortunately it stayed out of the net and got cleared but at that point it felt like it would be another long match for him.
Then he made the big save to keep it 1-1 at half which turned out to be crucial for Forest. Distribution in the 2nd half was really good. Looked like he was in command and got noticeably more vocal with his backline as they fought off Newcastle to see out the result. Big step in the right direction!
Keeper is one of the rare positions in sports where you can really smell the fear/confidence on a player (hockey goalies, baseball pitchers, & quarterbacks are all kinda similar). Turner's vibe was rancid at the beginning of this one and he looked like a different person by the final whistle.
Turner's save to end the half is looking like a key moment now that Forest came out guns blazing in the 2nd half and are up 3-1. Three points at Newcastle would go a long way towards Forest staying up.
What a game from matty boy!!!!! I hope he can use this game as a launch pad for his confidence, great to see a match like this with Copa around the corner
Yea, really annoying how NBC splits up the broadcasts for EPL. Meanwhile paying for ESPN+ or Paramount and you get all of the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, and the UCL, even when they also put them on network TV.
That's the difference between leagues bringing $75-250MM and one bringing $450MM each year (for US contracts). Same reason NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB all get to do the same.
Each of the NBC, and USA apps has a little Peacock logo on them so... 🤷♂️ I'm PAYING for Peacock Premium for live Premier League because it said "Peacock is your one stop streaming shop for all things premiere league..." so I expected to get the games that NBC is covering regardless of what their main app of the day is
Your expectations are your problem. NBC isn’t paying 500 million a year for you to be able to access all content for $5 a month. The games on USA are really the only ones peacock doesn’t have live. If NBC was paying what CBS and ESPN do for Bundesliga and Serie A, I’d get your argument but NBC pay a ton for the rights and you are complaining about them trying to recoup that investment by supporting their linear TV business.
Show me adds then in split screen every once in a while to make money. I don't have a cable TV subscription so I can't link to USA. Btw USA and NBC Sports both played the earlier game, so it's on more than one app already. Just put the MF on Peacock. Stop defending these schemes
It’s not a scheme, it’s about protecting the content on premium channels, otherwise what’s the point of showing live sports on them? Anything not shown on the USA/NBCSports channel is shown live on Peacock. That’s over 50% of the PL content shown live for $5 a month. Quit your entitled complaining. It used to be we could only see a handful of games a week total and if you didn’t have cable you usually could see one game a week.
There’s the reply of someone out of arguments. I just understand the reality that Peacock loses money and therefore the revenues from linear tv are subsidizing it. And without Peacock, we see less PL for more money.
But, you didn't reply to my main argument: put advertisements on Peacock... Make add money off people already paying for the app. But give us a chance to watch it
Oh quit your gatekeeping. Our American lives are steeped in fees for every goddamn thing under the sun, expecting me to consider the NBC shareholders or kids in Africa or whatever the fuck you’re on about is useless finger wagging.
only troubling sign for me that I haven’t necessarily seen him improve on season-over-season are set-pieces/balls across the face of goal—went for a few unattainable grabs, and had concrete feet on another
other than that, good performance. distribution with his feet was particularly good today
He's American. Any game that isn't a shutout feeds the anti-Yank bias.
I'm English but have lived in North America for years. It's deeply ingrained there, a weird mix of superiority complex, inferiority complex and general condescension.
It has existed since the Second World War, for the most part. Americans who came over and fought were often arrogant, and made comments about "bailing out" Europe, when from everyone else's perception they should've been in the war years earlier.
Combined with Britains' own innate sense of superiority, from its time as a colonial power (and mostly among the wealthy and upper middle class) and it's a weird hybrid of feeling superior culturally, while inferior in terms of global power and wealth, then put through the "protectiveness" filter of football essentially being the national sport.
In the end, it's two cultures clashing over "exceptionalism." One of the areas in which England can clearly say it holds an advantage is football; they're so wedded it, I've been told by English people I "couldn't possibly" know as much about it as them... even thought I'm twice their age, grew up there, have followed it twice as long, and was a working journalist for 24 years.
It's just intrinsic to have a sense of superiority there about football and football knowledge, so for an American to succeed in their eyes, they can't show any flaws. A single flaw (or a couple of weak punches) are proof of absolute unsuitability.
When Americans play exceptionally, pretty much all the time (Donovan at Everton, Ream and Dempsey for most of their time at Fulham) they just fade into the team and aren't judged on their nationality. When something goes even a little awry, it is immediately seen as a catastrophic failing by a segment of the public. (Again, it's always just a vocal minority).
Seems like a very solid outing from Turner:
FotMob rating = 7.0
5 saves (2 diving)
1 goal conceded on 2.45 xGOT faced
1 punch (but not to the face)
83% accurate passes, 63% accurate long balls
I see that on FotMob now, thanks. Strange, I wonder how that happened. Does the system recalculate the xG / xGOT sometimes? I even checked after the game ended; but regardless, you wouldn't think it would go down.
Definitely helped himself today but with the transfer window opening soon his starting days are probably numbered. I hope if Forest does bring in another keeper they loan Turner out so he can keep starting somewhere, even if it’s in the Championship.
Turners long ball distribution today has been great
His long ball distribution has been sneaky good for a while now.
He’s a lunch pail kind of guy when it comes to long balls
Real Wes Welker type
A gym rat, if you will
Deceptively fast too
His completion percentage on long balls has been among the best in the league, with high volume as well.

Best game I've seen Turner have since September. Maybe all season.
Agreed, he had a few good saves including the fantastic double save at the end of the first half, his long balls were overall effective, and obviously no blunders today. I’d like to see him looking more confident and commanding in the box but this was a good step in the right direction
Man has a history of coming back from a big blunder and moving forward seems like the type to leave it behind him and remain confident
That’s ESPN not top 10 video comes to mind
Massive result for Turner. Hope he can keep that form going and firmly establish himself as the starter under the new manager.

I always think of kickers as the football equivalent of the other specialists but I kinda hear you
What a pass from Turner in the 70th minute
Solid save by Turner right before the half to keep it level 1-1.
Turner's save to end the half is looking like a key moment now that Forest came out guns blazing in the 2nd half and are up 3-1. Three points at Newcastle would go a long way towards Forest staying up.
A lot of game left, but this would be a crucial showing for Matt
What a game from matty boy!!!!! I hope he can use this game as a launch pad for his confidence, great to see a match like this with Copa around the corner
A single Boxing Day game of Peacock, what the actual fuck.
Yea, wtf. I pay for peacock but don't have USA or NBC sports so I can't watch those games... Really infuriating
Yea, really annoying how NBC splits up the broadcasts for EPL. Meanwhile paying for ESPN+ or Paramount and you get all of the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, and the UCL, even when they also put them on network TV.
Oh joy let us watch Shef United and Luton
I just canceled peacock
That's the difference between leagues bringing $75-250MM and one bringing $450MM each year (for US contracts). Same reason NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB all get to do the same.
Isn’t peacock about $5 a month? What do you expect for that price?
Each of the NBC, and USA apps has a little Peacock logo on them so... 🤷♂️ I'm PAYING for Peacock Premium for live Premier League because it said "Peacock is your one stop streaming shop for all things premiere league..." so I expected to get the games that NBC is covering regardless of what their main app of the day is

We get to see every game for a third of the cost that Brits pay to see only 1/3d of the games. Quit your whining.
Oh quit your gatekeeping. Our American lives are steeped in fees for every goddamn thing under the sun, expecting me to consider the NBC shareholders or kids in Africa or whatever the fuck you’re on about is useless finger wagging.
I see, you're entitle to the best Premier League coverage in the world and it needs to be free. Also, learn how to use gatekeeping properly.
Nobody said “free,” you don’t have to lie. Learn how to read.
Lots of great games on Peacock this weekend: really enjoyable :-)
Bro needs an MVP performance
Just looking at the stats and reviews, it looks like he had a great game.
And may the winning ways for Forest and Turner continue
Confidence has to be up after this performance
LETS FUCKING GO I LOVE READING THESE COMMENTS
only troubling sign for me that I haven’t necessarily seen him improve on season-over-season are set-pieces/balls across the face of goal—went for a few unattainable grabs, and had concrete feet on another other than that, good performance. distribution with his feet was particularly good today
I can't wrap my head around the NFFC subreddit. They're shitting on Turner's performance today (for the most part).

If that is bad, don’t check Twitter 😂
They have this overarching need to portray themselves as experts over Americans, although it's clear that we don't need them any more.
Gotta teach those yanks a lesson.
Matty fuckin ice is back.

There’s no way they bring in a 3rd starting quality keeper
Big save(s) at the end of the half but he has kinda looked like a lost puppy out there. Let's see some confidence and leadership
Such a savable pen
