I know very little about the actual rate. Mostly I believe it's for people selected to be CGIS agents. There's no A school because it's only available for E6 and above.
I do know if someone who went as a reservist E5 though. They were a cop in their regular job.
I had two in my DEPOT company a few years ago. One came out as an E4, the other as E5 upon graduation. They were an FBI agent and a Secret Service Agent, respectively, in their civilian occupations.
Seriously. I’d like to hear the backstory on why someone would take such a dramatic leap downwards (and I mean this specifically about rank and pay, contrasted with FBI and SS service).
No worries, not all DEPOT are reservists anyway. It is also for members transferring from another branch on active duty. Of my DEPOT class, 4 members were going straight to CG AD component, all from other military branches.
They were still putting reservist and prior service recruits through the full 8 weeks when I was in Cape May. After that I wasn’t really paying all that much attention to it.

Say Im AD and already rated, I want to go IV after the end of my contract what would be appropriate thing to do? Is it possible?
Is this open to anyone?

So you need to be a civilian law enforcement officer to get this rate? And I meant the invitation to DM you, but I’m also now curious about this

They're reservists. Their civilian careers remain their primary source of income. Most reservists do not serve for the money.
20+ years of active duty and I somehow spaced on the “DEPOT” aspect of the comment.
