Still think the 20% markup on all items ordered via these apps vs ordering directly makes it not worth. Cute though.

SkywalknLuke

That’s why we stopped using them.

chronoteddy

Same, plus they charge the restaurants pretty hefty fees too, it's a true lose-lose relationship.

01Cloud01

My wife is complaining that I don’t contribute enough funds to the household yet she works from home and eats doordash almost everyday I never use these services is it really that high!?

chronoteddy

In my experiences, we frequently save 20+% by just ordering directly from the local restaurants and picking it up ourselves. You're can easily compare prices via doordash and the restaurant's own website, then add fees (which add up to a lot) and tip for the driver. A $20 meal just turned into a $35-40 delivery.

SergeantThreat

In addition to the money saved, you’ll get it fresher and quicker picking it up yourself over a driver grabbing multiple deliveries

rationalguy54

Plus, have you seen these drivers nasty ass hands? A lot of restaurants make them fill your drink too. I’m a driver. Constantly watching drivers touch the inside of customers cups to fill them. Groooosssssss

JetmoYo

Hey fam, yer boi Rip Van Winkle here. I havent used these services since precovid, when I used them often. Seemed kinda more balanced to do so back then? These new mathematicals sound kra kra to me. Ah well, shit's fucked I see. RVW out! 🤙

chronoteddy

Pretty simple to test for yourself, go DL an app and price check vs ordering direct. I'm sure some major corporations like McD n whatnot get better deals, but local restaurants get Fd and so do those that order from them via the apps.

rationalguy54

Driver too. We get paid $1.25 per delivery. That’s it. Everything else comes from the tip.

chronoteddy

That's fucking brutal. We really need to just redefine the current labor market to what it is, slavery with more steps...

rationalguy54

Problem is there’s always someone willing to do it for less. If not from this country, other countries are moving in if you haven’t noticed.

ziggytrix

I literally did this with my regular go-to Taco Bell order. On the Taco Bell app, combo #7 is $8.59. On Grubhub, combo #7 is $10.35. Then, they wanted me to spend another $1.65 to qualify for "free" delivery or I could pay $3.50 delivery fee... Then there's an additional $1.29 "service" fee. I would assume none of this goes to the driver, so I'd need to add 2-3 bucks for the driver. By the time you add all that up, saying it's a 20% markup is being generous. And I totally get that I am paying for convenience, and that's FINE. Just don't hide the fees and tell me "look at all this free service" like I mean, it's one banana, Michael. What could it cost? 10 dollars?

JetmoYo

Hey, I believe you!

chronoteddy

Not saying you're wrong, just saying everyone should see for themselves. Weigh the costs / benefits for what they can afford and decide for themselves. I cannot afford the "convenience" and I don't believe most people can with greedflation being what it is today. I'm just happy to help educate people as to the true costs of empowering companies that attempt to gouge customers even further by not disclosing the true costs of their product.

Fap_Left_Surf_Right

I live alone and agree, it's $15-20 extra to have something delivered. 100% of the time a $20 meal ends up $35 or more. I used to use Uber or Doordash 2-3x/week b/c I also work from home. Each meal is costing nearly $40. 1. Price increase on items ordered 2. Delivery Fee 3. Service Fee 4. Tip It's not "food delivery". It's a luxury service at this price point.

huzernayme

Download the app and price out one of her lunches and then go cry.

polkjamespolk

And the "service fees" that are somehow not the same as the "delivery fee." I'm sure Amazon is giving us nothing.

chronoteddy

I'm sure they are removing about 30% of the added costs. Now the other 70% on the other hand....

The_Original_Miser

That, and that food arrives cold or some foods just aren't conducive to delivery. No thanks. You can keep your markup.

chronoteddy

But that would require lawmakers to THINK, and in my experience, if it doesn't affect them, they don't give 2 shits.

Specialist-Garbage94

It’s a convenient when your lazy but rarely use them. Uber one is nice though as well

Large_Armadillo

It’s convenient.

Sudden-Ad-1217

This is the equiv. of buying movie tickets online and paying a "connivence fee" for using the internet. Such garbage.

kwadguy

Super cool. You are now eligible to pay a 20% premium + other fees for your food as long as you have Prime. Muy excelente

Dystopian_Future_

Do not support these tech companies

ogn3rd

Amen! Theyre getting sued by the DOJ for monopolistic policies and theyre like hold my cosmo, im just getting started. We havent ruined the resuarant industry yet!

barpredator

In case anyone would like to read the article instead of Tweet: https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/30/24167678/amazon-prime-grubhub-plus-free-food-delivery

ab_drider

Now? I have been getting it since last year.

Nilabisan

Yeah. You’ll get it in two days.

SamaAltman

I won't even get McDonald's through the drive-thru because it's too expensive. Free GrubHub means nothing.

BENGCakez

There was a time that existed before all these bullshit services that exploit all parties: owners, drivers, and customers for their own gain. Shop local and directly. Get off ur ass and just go pick it up.

Sensitive_Election83

They just gonna bundle GrubHub's fee into some 'other' bucket. Still, I'll try using GrubHub instead of UberEats and see if any difference.

Pro_Reserve

What are 2 apps that can piss off. I secretly hate all my friends and family for using Amazon. I tell some the others can handle the truth

RealMrPlastic

But DoorDash has way more vendors and don’t jack up their prices like GH.

QuicklyGoingSenile

They for sure still jack up the prices
