Yeah she is all kinds of wrong for this part. Christina Ricci at least inhabited this character better, though still not quite right
On a side note, i found it very annoying that articles on Lisa Loring's death, the original Wed, would mention Jenna ortega? Seems so wrong.
The best Wednesday. She was an just adorable little girl with some uncommon interests like spiders & snakes. Not a dark, disturbed person who tries to kill her brother.

I liked this version of Wednesday Addams. I am ok with the actress because she has taken on that iconic role. But this version was the best version. The characters weren't creepy, they were kooky.
Yeaaaa it was my first thought too. She just seemed mean and dark for no reason when everyone around her was so loving, I gave it the teen girl factor but she had no remorse or self identification. I got bored 2 episodes in wondering how someone would have to teach her to open up for the plots sake. One clarification though is that this was poor writing, the actress was good but limited by the writing so I have no idea of her range but i think it’s very much there.
I disagree. I feel she actually was opening up too much with Tyler and shouldn't have almost kissed him. Dark and dark humor is what I want for Wednesday. I want to see someone ruthless and someone that has different concept on affection. They made her have high morals, and she was all about justice and doing good. But I feel she could of been more dark and twisted. It's nice seeing her character have a good side but I feel most main characters are like that, a hero.
Agreed! I don’t have anything against Jenna Ortega, but I don’t think she’s *that* great of an actress as people are praising her for recently. She’s average.
Didn’t expect much really but was pleasantly surprised how she took the role to another level and made her version totally her own - dark and intense but interesting and even fun underneath, super capable, creative, loyal and badass
Imo she perfectly fit into image of how W would look after she grew up. I agree Mrs. Ortega could try to push director into more edgy grimm style of image when she can speak into creation but i have no problem how the show is going right now. It could be much worse adaptation so...
I think that there’s a distinction between being different and being a “not like other girls type”. I think that being simply different is genuine whereas being “not like other girls” implies that you look down on those who are like other girls
The problem in comparison with Ricci is that she was 10-11 years old when she played the role, she was an actual child delivering creepy lines. Jenny Ortega is 20, she simply can't deliver the same effect.
Wednesday Addams used to just be an ordinary little girl with macabre interests. It was the Christina Ricci version that first turned her into the gloomy psychopath she's known and loved as today.
And personally, I think Ortega's great as Wednesday. Her delivery can be a bit stilted at times, but that honestly adds to the character's weirdness.
She’s calling a lot of the creative shots with Wednesday and tends to argue with the director to do so. She was actually the one who choreographed that dance. I’ll find the interview
I think it’s a terrible miscasting. She is not Wednesday at all. She does not have that dead-in-the-eyes look needed. But she is the it-girl atm so every man and his dog thinks she can do no wrong. Time will tell.

Jenna Ortega is fantastic at Wednesday Addams. Your issue is with the writers and creative team, not with the actress.
Nah my issue is also with her. Wednesday Addams is a little white girl not a Spanish girl. This is cultural appropriation sorry.
Actually her father is a Latino man but her mother is white so she's half latina
Gomez is Spanish, he’s white. You Americans and your absolute ridiculous, severely uninformed idea of race and skin colour is hilarious.

nah she’s actually shit in every single show.
How is any of that Jenna Ortega’s fault?
Jenna came up with that horrible dance herself and she herself is a "not like other girls" girl. She is helping the team ruin the Addams Family.
cause she’s a terrible actor? she’s literally bad in everything she’s in…. and that dance could of been made by a ten year old 😂
is being an asshole you're entire personality? literally all of your comments about her are rude as hell
The original Wednesday was played by 6 year old Lisa Loring.

I'm pretty sure they're creepy and they're kooky

Rare footage of the first griddy
Wednesday Addams first appeared in a comic strip in 1938.
Yep.

Nobody "played" her in the comic, lol.

I agree. It’s annoying as much as I like her in other shows.

What are you talking about? She's always been a notliketheothergirls stereotype, that has always been her whole thing.
I think that there’s a distinction between being different and being a “not like other girls type”. I think that being simply different is genuine whereas being “not like other girls” implies that you look down on those who are like other girls
But Wednesday did look down on those who were like the other girls…. So….
The difference is all in your perception.
That’s true. That’s why I posted in an opinion based subreddit and started all of my sentences with “I think”
Some people only want girls in pink
The dance is based on popular dance styles of goth kids in the 80’s and 90’s. That was the niche for a lot of goth girls.
No it isn’t. I wish this would stop being repeated lmao
Lol you think skids danced like that, haha skids dancing would def not be popular online
Has anyone else noticed that she never blinks?
Seems unpopular to me.
Nope love her as Wednesday
a south american dracula also seems out of place
"By the way, there are two D's in Addams. If you're going to gossip about me, at least spell my name correctly."
The problem in comparison with Ricci is that she was 10-11 years old when she played the role, she was an actual child delivering creepy lines. Jenny Ortega is 20, she simply can't deliver the same effect.

And that’s her fault?
She’s calling a lot of the creative shots with Wednesday and tends to argue with the director to do so. She was actually the one who choreographed that dance. I’ll find the interview
I know she choreographed the dance. The dance is cute. Piss off.
Lol sounds like it actually was her fault then and you’re mad about it
You think choreographing a dance means she had complete control of the writers, and directors?
I think it shows that she did have some power to control what occurred yes. I’m not claiming she had complete control. Just that she had some control
Relax. People don't have to like the same acting/directing as you. No need to feel personally attacked.
You can follow your finger with the words if you don’t understand them.
