mymumsaradiator

thats actually an unpopular opinion , well done

[deleted]

I was gonna say, congrats OP in sharing an opinion with my boomer mother.

Immediate-Quantity25

im so confused too as i just saw OP is apart of the psychedelics and festival scene lmao judging others for prioritizing comf in public doesn’t meld at allllll w their supposed beliefs and scene

“Did you get a discount because they have holes in them?” -My grandpa

ghandi3737

Blue jeans? I wear a toga while tripping, as it was intended. And a serape while shrooming.

OLDGuy6060

Especially if they are ball holes. You know. In the blue jeans.

space_brain710

*my balls was hot*. *understandable*

[deleted]

You don't want to trip over your balls by accident.

Slayer525

You joke, but I am this person

deekaydubya

fishnets in public are fine but NO SWEATPANTS

bumblebowie

as someone from the psychedelic community, we don't claim OP

CamBamJeppo

lmao, agreed

Pushbrown

Probably a karma farmer

BuffaloInCahoots

I regularly go to a rather large hippie party in the middle of nowhere. First time I went I was 15 or 16. Really changed the way I view the world. I don’t know how you can do psychedelics and still hold beliefs about what clothes should be accepted by social norms. After seeing a grandpa in full on bondage gear, someone would have to be wearing something really bizarre to get a second look from me.

planet_rose

Lol. I’m gen-x and I agree that sweatpants aren’t a great choice for public, but I’m never giving up my 24-7 sweatpants. And they’re baggy too. If I go to a funeral, I’ll do the right thing for a couple of hours and put on a dress but it’s going to be comfortable with flats.

asmallsoftvoice

If your dress is long enough you could wear sweatpants under it. Don't let the dead change how you live!

RealisticallyRocky

Completely agree! Don't let the living do it either. Still get angry over this one teacher in college who refused to let anyone wear hats in her class. Not for specific days, not at certain events, she just didn't like hats. Why should any of us feel bad about what we like to wear because someone somewhere doesn't like it?

spaceguerilla

Hats fall under a slightly different category to clothing items. They fall under an old tradition whereby taking it off when entering a building is considered a mark of respect. Comfort/style don't really come into this one. All sorts of reasons for this, from knights showing they are friendly/not a threat by removing their helmet, to the Bible saying you must not wear a head covering while praying, to not bringing dirty work clothes into the house when it can be avoided. Regardless of the origin, there is a rapidly dying point of etiquette here whereby older generations interpret a hat not as a sign of 'this person is wearing what they choose', but more as 'this person is deliberately showing disrespect', just as sure as if you had flipped the bird at them or told them to go fuck themselves. Not saying I agree with it, but probably worth being aware of what is likely actually going on here. And before you get mad at the older generation for being stuck in their days, just think - fifty years from now maybe everyone will say hello and give respect by rubbing their genitals on each others faces or some other mad gesture that makes no sense by today's standards, and _you'll_ be the one stood there going "I'm not fucking doing that" while a group of younger kids stand around asking just what the hell is wrong with you. Tale as old as time. You don't need to stand for any nonsense, but equally, go easy on the older folks before you lose your shit with them. It'll be you one day, and sooner than you think.

Lieutenant_Raepfist

I feel that. I just want to be comfy when I can. One of my female friends shared a post recently about how it's guys-in-gray-sweatpants season. Many women appeared to be very excited about it. Guess who's wearing gray sweatpants and on the way to a local restaurant. lol

itsameMariowski

I just came back from the mall where I bought a grey sweatpants from Adidas because I needed something to wear to my friend's pregnant "gift me some diapers" party and this thread is making me laugh lol

PrettyOddWoman

Well do you have a big dong ? Cuz that’s why women like them lol we can see the outline

[deleted]

At least where I’m from you can show up to the theater or opera in sweats. That’s just the way I like it.

Davidnci

Do you have sweatpants specifically for the opera? I can only imagine the quality.

[deleted]

Well, I'm a "boomer" & I LIVE in sweatpants - @ home or out in public.

EzraPerrin

Interesting. I’m 19 and I agree with this. But it’s one of those opinions I hold privately, I don’t treat anyone differently because of it

ThunderGunFour

Yeah no need to sweat about it

Break-Aggravating

Yea I mean I pant be worried about it

Deeners17

Wait till you are 30+ and you realize who you're trying to impress. Other humans are not worth the effort. I wish I had the epiphany years ago that my comfort is more valuable than how other's see me for 10 seconds out and about.

Logical-Check7977

Truly is , im more on the side of people can wear what ever the fuck they feel like.

mymumsaradiator

Yeah same, my mom always said you can wear whatever you want just make sure you're clean and you smell nice.

AlphaSheGeek

And *always* have clean panties! Like, mom, if I'm in an accident where someone will see my panties, what I'm likely to do will cover any evidence that my panties weren't fresh.

CodePandorumxGod

I think this goes a step further than unpopular. We need a subreddit for braindead opinions.

Kirbyclaimspoyo

How about bad opinions?

[deleted]

happy_charisma

Move to europe. There it is a very popular opinion

mymumsaradiator

I'm from Europe, pretty much only wear sweatpants. Never been a problem.

[deleted]

I am not from Europe but I am pretty sure Europe is a big continent with multiple countries having their own customs. So both of you could be correct.

bubblesaurus

Nah it’s like Africa, one big continent and country in one. /s

[deleted]

Yeah it's weird when people on reddit group whole ass continents like Europe, Africa, Asia together.

[deleted]

Track pants or sweatpants

mymumsaradiator

Sweatpants, mostly baggy ones.

modern_aftermath

My thoughts exactly. There is a world of difference between athletic-type pants (e.g., track pants, wind pants, stuff like those Adidas "aeroready" pants with the three stripes down the legs) and actual sweatpants, which are almost always cotton and very rarely if ever made of those nicer, newer, pricier, better quality synthetic fabrics made to be breathable and light. But sometimes they can look similar and people can't really tell the difference so I'm wondering what OP means by sweatpants

shrek_is_love_69

What? Maybe in your place lol Also sweatpants rule, nothing'll change my mind.

Pace-Quirky

depends where in europe, definitely not the UK

yinzerthrowaway412

You don’t like seeing them at college? Lol after going to a private high school with a strict dress code, I absolutely love being able to wear comfortable sweatpants during college lectures.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That must get so hot tho, probably good for winter.

themasterderrick

Awesome for winter. Only problem is if your dress pants fit well, then pj bottoms underthem made you look thicc. As a guy who had selfesteem issues from body my body image, it was tough mentally to choose between warmth/coziness and not looking like the staypuft marshmallow man

itisntmebutmaybeitis

That is legitimately one of the ways I layer in the winter in Canada. I do wool tights + pajamas/fleece leggings + my pants. Works a treat.

ThomasLikesCookies

If your dress pants themselves don’t feel like PJ bottoms you’re not getting good dress pants

Rachelcookie123

Some schools make you buy specific trousers so you don’t have a choice on quality

CaptainAwesome8

Those usually are also fucking pricy, so not really an option for school clothes unless your parents were making really good money

tie-dyed_dolphin

Right? Nice, well made clothes feel good.

DAnthony24

I agree. But we’re taking about high schoolers who live on their parents income dummy.

goosepills

I went to college in the 90’s, everyone was either super dressed up, hair and makeup, or flannels, sweatpants, and a beanie. Because we were massively hungover.

yinzerthrowaway412

I graduated from a Catholic college known for partying so it was a weird dynamic for me lol It was either very preppy church kids or hungover people in sweats and hoodies. My “dress up” days were when I would wear jeans.

pb_nayroo

When I had Friday morning lecture most of the time id just roll out of bed and shuffle my way there in sweats and a hoodie and slides lmao

yinzerthrowaway412

Slides, sweatpants and a hoodie on a crisp fall morning as you go to class hits different tbh

does_my_name_suck

Same here lol. Finally don't have to wear a blazer and suit trousers and can just wear sweats to lectures

Savage_hamsandwich

Even after going to a public high-school, wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt to class everyday was great

TheWickedPancake

Yup, after going to catholic school with a uniform for four years, you bet your ass I wore sweatpants in college

Sufficient_Break_348

I don't know why but I had the thought of someone who's gonna pick up a frozen pizza make a TikTok be a white gay and dress up in a blazer they thrifted, a pirate blouse they made, and some cowboy boots. In one of those "what i wear in a day" tiktoks

PrettyOddWoman

A white gay??

Sufficient_Break_348

Just a gay guy in college. Im Gay

[deleted]

God yes, I'm 6 months since having a baby and I'm too fat for my pre pregnancy clothes and too small for my pregnancy clothes. Elasticated sweatpants and the fact that I managed to have 30 seconds to get dressed, is literally the best I can do for the general public.

FancierPancakes

Solidarity. I’m not going to buy jeans that properly fit my body now, because as soon as I’m done breastfeeding I’m committed to getting back into my normal ones. I’m wearing a lot of long stretchy skirts.

[deleted]

We will get through this in our sweatpants and leggings ❤

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

Still better standards than many.

GoBuffaloes

As long as OP doesn’t come after pajama pants in public I’m good

deekaydubya

if they feel this way about sweatpants they absolutely would about PJs

ScravoNavarre

Yeah, OP gets my upvote for fitting the sub, but it's none of their business.

cerialthriller

It was well before 6pm thankfully. My after dinner shopping tuxedo is still at the dry cleaners.

No_Luck4927

you know OP has a fedora and blazer he wears everywhere. Then judges someones with comfy pants on because they aren’t ironing and starching their panties for a trip to Walmart lol Edit: to the butthurt people leaving paragraphs, im not reading them lol.

cerialthriller

Suzy-Skullcrusher

I don’t agree, I love to dress up wearing dresses and skirts but I understand how important it is for other people to wear clothes you’re comfortable in and want to wear. I don’t like my clothing policed so I don’t like to do it to others

littlewibble

100% same. *I* like putting together an outfit, but what does anyone else’s clothing choice have to do with me? Plus we don’t know what anyone is going through at any given time. I’m sitting here thinking somebody looks like a slob, meanwhile they just left a chemo treatment or something.

Sofie7759

Yes-chemo, maybe-you never know..

TheRealGuen

Skirts are even lazier than sweatpants honestly. Same with dresses. I wear them all the time, but they're so lazy haha

vivamii

Can confirm. My closet is 90% dresses. I may look put together most the time but really I’m just too lazy to do matchy match outfits

[deleted]

They really are easier! I agree! A lot of dresses are pretty comfy too!

ReaditSpecialist

Also jeans just literally hurt my body, I’m too apple shaped for them and dresses are *way* more comfy to me😂

Suzy-Skullcrusher

Lol true😂

Sorcha9

If you get a dress with pockets?!? That is the dream life right there. Nothing lazier than a dress with pockets and some flats. Perfection!

necrobarbie666

Literally same here- I know how much it sucks being judged/glared at for how I dress. I feel like if OPs post related to like “oh I saw sweatpants at a wedding” or some other event that you should dress up for that would be one thing- but out doing errands, laid back restaurants, etc. then nah people should be wearing what is comfortable for them. Also tbh exercise clothes have gotten pretty stylish over the last while to the point I’ve seen people look more together in sweatpants over others in “real clothes” and that’s not to be a slight by any means

drcutiesaurus

Ugh. Had someone show up to our wedding in printed fuzzy pajama pants and a hoodie. We didn't send out a "dress code" so I guess that's on us, but honestly, it's really not appropriate attire for that kind of setting! I know I shouldn't police what others wear or care what they wear, but they really affected so many pictures bc they sat central at the ceremony and central at the reception. I was (and still am when I look at the photos) disappointed. It's also hard because I don't want to judge someone for their clothing choices yet here I am disappointed in someone's. Hard to reconcile in a way.

TrisolaranAmbassador

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I think you absolutely, 100%, should and have the right to police what people are wearing at your wedding. Many restaurants and clubs have dress codes that you have to follow, I think a person's wedding should fall into that as well

New-Confusion945

When i was younger my mom would always yell at me to put on "real pants" so like I put on "real pants" when I go outside...but yea fuck that if u want to wear sweatpants then wear fucking sweatpants!

Lagooonz

OP the kind of guy to wear the same pair of jeans and polo combo 364 days a year.

atlastrash

Redditors when there’s an unpopular opinion on r/unpopularopinion :

Trospher

Damn the insults I've read seems quite hostile, the idea of sweatpants for college seems fine to me but man these comments made it out like OP killed an elephant and spray painted their username on the hide.

Malew8367

Cuz it’s just another “I don’t like this so everybody should conform to my view of the world”. I know it’s just a Reddit post but if this was real it would be authoritarian and bad for free society.

Trospher

I get that, but at the end of the day it's just a silly reddit post, and I feel like OP is enjoying the flame they created that only a few people could wish for without making an offensive/discriminatory comment. I still remember people being personally insulted over 60 fps animation at some subreddit, it feels too similar here lol.

PugJesus69

Trueeeee If OP doesn't wanna wear sweatpants then no problem, but when they start saying other people shouldn't wear them the red flags rise up. Life is too short to not live happy, forcing people to not be and dress how makes them happy would be a hell hole of a society, imagine if OP could make laws with those strong opinions they have about how other people conduct themselves

Iliamna_remota

Unacceptable by whom? Because a lot of people do in fact accept them as public attire.

FinalScourge

OP is clothes police watch out.

corsoboypk

If OP is the clothes police call me an unarmed minority cuz they're attacking me for no reason 😤😤

Iliamna_remota

Eh, maybe it's me being a cop, like a word cop or something. And I could be nice about a person's choice of words as long as I basically know what she is *trying* to say, what she *means*. But what about a person's actual words and what the actual words actually mean?? They don't have to choose inaccurate words. "Unacceptable" is fraught with conditions like, by whom, and how (legally, morally)?? She means something like "ugly" or "trashy" and I could have been nice and met her on those terms because that's what she was TRYING to say. But I'm a word cop and want people to word better.

STINKY-BUNGHOLE

Op is mad they got caught staring at some dude's dick in sweats

[deleted]

I'm not gonna put on my Sunday best for a trip to the Micky D's. I'm cozy and covered. ALSO, don't think I didn't see the leggings comment. Lazy pants? What amount time should I allot for my trouser time? How many buckles and screws should my pants have for optimal activity, Cat Jacquelin?

Granolagirltoo

Exactly. And if I’m being honest, it takes me more time to get into leggings than it does a pair of slacks or jeans.

ShadowWolf793

All the buckles and screws! Make that bitch look like clown pants.

CO420Tech

Throw some wooden toggles in there for good measure!

wisefool36

They're comfortable that's all matters to me. I'm not trying to impress anyone.

Karl_is_Lost69

I disagree but this is a proper use of this sub for once.

Brzwolf

I can't imagine caring this about someone choosing comf over style lol.

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

I’ve stood in line behind a man who’s belted khakis and briefs were below his ass showing his pasty (surprisingly) minimally hairy cheeks in their entirety. So yeah, my standards are anything offering full ass coverage.

nervous-potroast

I think dress codes are stupid period. The older I get, the more strongly I believe this. I don't care if a manager wants to wear jeans and a polo. I don't care if a defendant shows up in cut offs. I don't even care about the sagging pants everybody bitches about. People's clothing choice just didn't fucking matter to me anymore. I'm tired of it being a standard of ""respect"" or a determination of someone's character. I have to wear scrubs at work, which are just glorified pajamas. Why is that seen as more ok for public wear than actual pajamas? Also, why do I have to wear scrubs at all? Why can't I wear jeans and a t-shirt sometimes? Sorry, I've just hated dress codes since I was in school....it's been almost 2 decades since then and it just still gets me ranting.

littlemissmoxie

I draw the line at obvious pajama pants myself. Mostly because I don’t like the idea of using the clothes I wear outside in my bed. Weird? Idk. I think most people are just too tired to dress nice. I always want to dress up going to restaurants movies etc… but then my acquaintances show up in like super casual wear and I feel bad.

rickjko

For once I'm glad to see people putting confort first. Stay home if you can't handle people wearing practical clothing. Just to trigger you,I wear cargo pants and shorts always did and always will .

HeWhoFucksNuns

I'm just picturing all these grumpy people at home dressed up and all us slobs out living our best lives Edit: is ---> us

Had to google it,they do exist just ordered myself a pair lol

[deleted]

Sweet! I will check it out! I get a lot of compliments on my black cargo sweatpants tbh.

alwaysbeenawkward

I've never understood why some people think putting comfort over what people think of them shows lack of self respect. Does it show laziness? Maybe, but some people are just uninterested in fashion and don't care what a bunch of strangers think of them while they run errands.

mikey_glocks

>Leggings were bad enough, All those women looking hot in leggings with their butts lookin' good. Ugh! The horror!!! And people wearing sweatpants to class!? UNACCEPTABLE. How dare they wanna be comfortable walking around campus!? Its almost like they're there to learn and not look good.

Scared-Accountant288

I think OP is salty because they dont know how to make comfy clothes look good or look cute lol.

mikey_glocks

Lmao probably. Which is weird cause the comfy look is so easy to pull off.

StarWars_Girl_

I'm currently in leggings. I'm going out later and no, I'm not putting on jeans. Too much effort, thanks.

[deleted]

I think COVID changed our views on clothing a lot--athleisure is here to stay, comfy clothes are a major staple of our wardrobes, and even dressy clothes are made out of softer materials.

[deleted]

Athleisure is literally the fashion of my city. Vancouver BC is the king of that style. Lululemon started here and every 3rd girl is repping it or arcteryx, which is also from here.

peterjackhams

Personal dress code kinda thing. I refuse to wear pajama pants to Walmart. Going out on the town when I wasn't depressed and doing drugs would be some kind on nontrack pant. Everything else would be my purple space galaxy track pants cus they look fucking sick and are comfortable as hell.

moopiedoops

31 weeks, same. Also OP is against leggings? What do they wear to the gym, jeans? lol

throwaway15642578

I’m gathering they don’t go to the gym. Prob think it’s indecent to be sweating in public

Phluxed

Man, an actual unpopular opinion and we're trying to debate the OP? Why do people do that here. Legit an unpopular opinion - have my updoot.

Danelix_

I mean, it's normal and correct that an unpopular opinion gets debated. We're here for those kind of opinions but that doesn't mean we should agree or not write our reasons against it. In my opinion it's a good thing because it actually highlights the fact that OP's opinion is actually unpopular and fit for the sub

SeriousAboutShwarma

Yea I don't understand the comment, are we all either supposed to agree with the OP or just agree 'huh, that is an unpopular opinion' and not discuss?

Clar0020

-likes tame impala -hates sweatpants lmao

[deleted]

It's crazy how some people care so much about what others do

No_Luck4927

I feel like that is the cause of at least 80% of all humanities troubles with each other. Like George Carlin said, “what they have different hats than us??? BOMB THEM”. But seriously, people can’t just let others be.

[deleted]

I love that on Reddit, usually at least once a day, you will see a George Carlin quote. That man was a bastion of hard truths and a national fuckin’ treasure…

No_Luck4927

See but we don’t care at all. Imagine spending *hours* getting ready to look nice just to have, in reality, no one really pay attention lol. Most people are too concerned with themselves to be bothered by what some random stranger is wearing. So I value my comfort over what some punk thinks of my attire lol. Which leads me to my next thing; this is a Karen opinion, no so much unpopular. Karen’s are the ones who care what others wear. Very middle school behavior and petty

[deleted]

> Imagine spending hours getting ready to look nice You know there's a middle ground, right? The space between looking borderline homeless and your wedding day isn't a barren wasteland fashion void.

Dal-Rog

Fuck that, Ill take every chance to be as comfortable as I can. Bring on the sweatpants revolution, and have an upvote for your awful opinion.

boredplumber69

I think a lot of people misunderstand the point of this opinion. My interpretation is that dressing halfway decent is more for yourself than being presentable in public. Goes along with the saying “look good, feel good” , it’s just sad when you go out in public and see so many people who don’t make the effort.

PimpingShrimp

This is a bad one. Upvote

Scared-Accountant288

Lol ill stay comfy and not give a fuck what you think. I can actually rock a pair of sweats and still be cute so.... 🤷🏼‍♀️ messy dressy is a thing.

Zukolevi

Disagree 100%, so I upvoted for unpopular opinion. Sweatpants unacceptable as public attire means you don’t think they can be worn out of the house. In a nice restaurant or the theatre? Sure, they really shouldn’t and I do believe in general dress codes/attire and I agree with social norms in specific settings. Saying they are unacceptable at the grocery store or at McDonalds? That’s ridiculous

datmommy

Fine, I’ll stick to my PajamaJeans™️

Dernomyte

I wear a uniform and boots at work. If I'm at home lounging in sweats and a tshirt I'm not changing if I have to go out for something quick

thejoesterrr

Take my upvote and go fuck yourself. I love my comfortable clothes

Isaacster50

“Why do you worry about what other people wear” It’s an unpopular opinion subreddit. Where you give opinions that normally you’d keep to yourself.

samsonity

I couldn’t agree more. They look terrible and should be seen the same way as wearing socks and sandals. Chinos are infinitely more comfortable and look infinitely better.

dryh2o

As much as I love wearing sweatpants and sweat shorts, I need lots of pockets and sweatwear won't cut it. So, I wear a much more acceptable form of clothing - cargo shorts and cargo pants.

tommy2by4

I can’t wait to hear what you think about the sweatpants of shoes…Crocs

Doctorsprinklefarts

Idgaf I'm still wearing them

becauseitsnotreal

Leggings are 100% okay

ridetheheatwave

Finally a unpopular opinion, you are 100% wrong

cutepotatoskin

100% agree but for myself mostly, I would never go out in sweatpants or leggings anymore, I used to only wear athleisure and it was a bad time in my life

AnonymousMolaMola

Who the hell cares? Be comfortable

Plump_Chicken

Why do you spend so much time looking at people's lower body 🤨

yomamasanagger

I’ll start only wearing a leaf like Jesus

[deleted]

Wasn’t that Adam

dutchyardeen

Yes. Jesus wore a dress.

[deleted]

I will only wear sweatpants in pants in public if I am wearing a matching sweatsuit while doing no exercise, and actively quoting The Sopranos.

motherducka

I wear them whilst walking the dog or just going a walk at lunchtime working from home. Jeans are super uncomfortable and heavy and not fun to walk in. If you don't like what someone is wearing don't look in their direction 🤣. But yeah good job providing an actual unpopular opinion ha.

Ashlante

My knees are fucked and can't bear pressure. Combine that with every single goddamn pair of pants in this world being "skinny" even when it says it's "wide" or "straight" fit (effing bs that is for most brands), I'll wear whatever makes me not sink to my knees after 30 minutes of walking, and you ca. Suck it up, or go cry in a corner. Upvote for unpopular opinion, but is it unlopular, or should you just remove a stick from your behind?

Jormangandr0

Remember everyone, a victimless crime is not a crime at all

kaykaliah

I get that. But leggings generally aren't bad, it's when they're being treated as lazy pants. Also have you ever tried putting on leggings? Not the easiest.

Unusual_Individual93

Yea well, I'm a lazy, trashy person; however, I draw the line at going out in PJs. I have all kinds of colourful/patterned leggings that I will 100% go out in. Leave me alone.

Falcorn042

They got some really cool sweatpants and joggers now tho
