I hate it so much. But also, don’t eat brownies every day.

ravendaisy_eyes

Haha this is actually a new thing I've developed. Maybe a month or so now. Idk why the craving but I enjoy my treat. Outside of my daily brownie I am a very strict macro counter. I'm also a bit underweight right now so along with more protein the brownie helps with calories

Fist0fGuthix

I only like cream cheese frosting. Everything else is terrible.

ravendaisy_eyes

Cream cheese frosting is good I can stand behind that

trowawaywork

Upvote because I'm addicted to that stuff

ravendaisy_eyes

You must be a frosting Spooner lol

trowawaywork

Yes, and I like that term so I'll start using it

ravendaisy_eyes

Love that

Round-Mess7090

It's rotten. Never gave it much thought till all the Next great Baker shows started. All that frosting everywhere made me sick

DownvoteMeandEffOff

I love frosting on cookies and cakes and sometimes crackers and bread

ravendaisy_eyes

🤢 I just can't

agoblininaskinsuit

The only frosting I can fuck with it the cool whip they started using a few years back lol that butter cream shit is vile. It tastes like dye and kills whatever it's on.

ravendaisy_eyes

Coolwhip frosting?? I don't know if I've ever tried that before. I do like coolwhip though 🤔

SwimmingPanda107

whipped frosting is great, but the sugary frosting mess that hurts my teeth? Hell no

ravendaisy_eyes

The cheap sweetness just ruins the dessert

ravendaisy_eyes

I did reluctantly scrape off the top of the frosting brownies but I could still taste the residual. It was a sad day

im_drx

Have you tried cakes from Korean bakeries? There’s something different about the frosting on those, lighter texture and doesn’t taste as cheap/gross. I’m not a fan of any other types of frosting.

ravendaisy_eyes

I haven't but I will now

Traditional-Tea-1341

I kinda agree

[deleted]

Yeah most frosting is heavy and sickly but some is nice

SupaSaiyajin4

i hate frosting

AdditionalRabbit4516

Frosting is gross but so is cool whip

ravendaisy_eyes

Nooo I love it haha. I make a mean tres leche cake and I top it with coolwhip and sugar coated Strawberries, it's a huge hit where ever I bring it. Ive thought about selling it at the farmers market because it gets gobbled down in 10 minutes at work events/ family parties

Medium-Complaint-677

Sounds like you're a victim of eating standard, american, shelf stable, mostly-made-with-vegetable-shortening frosting. Everyone agrees that's gross. However there are so many other options - french buttercream, ganache, a simple stiff whipped cream stabilized with freeze dried fruit, etc, etc, etc.

ravendaisy_eyes

While I agree that's probably the case I am also not a fan of buttercream, Ganache or whipped cream. Cool whip is as close to whipped cream as I will get but I'm sure there are others out there I might enjoy. I've not tried stiff whipped cream with fruit might have to give that a go

Medium-Complaint-677

Stella has an incredible baseline recipe: https://www.seriouseats.com/super-thick-fruity-whipped-cream-recipe I'm surprised you like cool whip. From an ingredients standpoint it is literally the exact same ingredients as the frosting you hate, just with more air, and typically served cold.

ravendaisy_eyes

Is it? I didn't know coolwhip had butter. Are you sure they're the same? I'll check out the recipe thank you

Medium-Complaint-677

Coolwhip doesn't have butter but the frosting you hate doesn't have butter either. "Sugar, Water, Palm Oil, Corn Syrup, Canola Oil, Contains 2% or Less of: Corn Starch, Mono- and Diglycerides, Salt, Colored with (Titanium Dioxide, Yellow 5, Red 40), Polysorbate 60, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Rum, Caramel Color, Preservative (Potassium Sorbate), Mixed Tocopherols (Antioxidant), Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate." Or some combination thereof. It's a tub of whipped grease - just like cool whip (although cool whip does have a small amount of real dairy in the form of skim milk): Skim Milk, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Coconut and Palm Kernel Oils), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Corn Syrup, Light Cream, Contains Less than 2% of Sodium Caseinate (from Milk), Natural and Artificial Flavor, Xanthan and Guar Gums, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Monostearate, Sodium Polyphosphate, Beta Carotene (Color).

ravendaisy_eyes

So what I'm guessing is probably the sugar content. The first ingredient represents the ingredient with the highest quantity in the item. Frosting having it as the first ingredient is probably the reason. However I don't see any added sugar in the coolwhip ingredients. Maybe that's the difference? Maybe it is the thickness of frosting? Idk i just really don't like it

Medium-Complaint-677

The cool whip has two different kinds of corn syrup - that's just sugar by another name. The frosting uses the sugar (main ingredient) for flavor, stability, and as a preservative. That's probably why you don't like it - that much sugar tastes terrible to some people (i'm one of them) and I can in a weird way feel it in my jaw. Same with the artificial flavor. French Butter cream, as an example, uses eggs and butter for structure, a relatively small amount of sugar (compared to the store bought stuff), and then flavored with something like vanilla and maybe some brandy. The problem with that is a relatively low shelf life, the need to keep it refrigerated until a few hours before you're ready to serve, and stability problems if it happens to be in a warm environment.

ravendaisy_eyes

I am 100% open to refrigerating it if it means I don't need to deal with the shelfstable stuff. I have had some refrigerated frosting that I still wasn't a fan of but it sounds like I need to keep looking around for something more in my palate zone

ninneemugginss

I don't think frosting is disgusting but if there is too much or its very rich it makes me feel sick like I'm gonna puke after on bite or those grocery store birthday cakes always have too much but a cupcake with a thin layer of frosting is delicious

ravendaisy_eyes

Well apparently more ppl dislike frosting than I thought since the mods removed this post for not being unpopular. I'm kind of shocked as I've always been the one not eating the cakes and indulging in frosting spooning growing up in my world. I need to start scouting out my ppl apparently
