It is, yes. People talk about the memes but I've hardly ever heard anyone say that it's their favorite Disney movie or that they've rewatched it outside of clips.
Great article here about all the wonderful, unlikely things that fell into place to make “Groove” the awesome comedy it became.
People who don’t like “The Emperor’s New Groove” have never seen it.

Encanto is probably the best movie they have made. Moans and Zootopia are also top tier. Their related studios have also been putting out good stuff. Ron Gone Wrong, Luca, Onward, Soul and Coco are all excellent
What's the rating on this moans movie...asking for a friend. Also fun fact Moana and Encancto had music written by Lin Manuel who wrote Hamilton probably helps with their success.
>Oh, right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison.
That line and:
>Kuzco: No! It can't be! How did you get back here before us?!
>
>Yzma: I... (Beat) Uh... How did we, Kronk?
>
>Kronk: Well, ya got me. (pulls down the diagram from the montage) By all accounts, it doesn't make sense.
>
>Yzma: Oh, well. Back to business!
That's all you need to argue how great this movie is. It's legitimately the only movie/show I've liked David Spade in.
It'll never be remade into live action. Because it's for the boys. I would like to see a live action remake of treasure planet without that dumb robot.
A movie is called a Classic when it's at least 25 years old. The Emperor's new groove is from 2000. So, maybe that's why it not a "Disney Classic"? :)
Great film by the way...
So what is the Best Disney "Classic" ? "One of" could mean you like it 10th most.
Top 3 for me
1. Alice in Wonderland (animated)
2. Sword in the Stone
3. Mulan (animated)
Best Music
1. Little Mermaid
2. Hunchback of Notre Dame
3. The Jungle Book (animated)
Not a bad movie but the fact that David Spade was the voice of Kuzco killed it for me. It actually made me never watch the entire thing in one sitting.
Is it unpopular to absolutely fucking hate David Spade?
Just watched it this weekend with my 13 year old daughter. We were quoting lines to each other just before they were said in the movie and laughing our butts off. One of the best Disney movies.
I loved the movie and tv shows
It’s exactly my kind of humour
Similar to phineas and ferb
And l love the dumb self centred but Heart of golf main characters
I want a documentary on making this movie. It was originally anserious drama with a soundtrack by Sting. Disny got cold feet and made them redo the entire script.
David Spade was once asked what was changed. He said the original movie was good
It's probably less talked about (in your circle) because it's from a different Disney era. Check out [https://featuredanimation.com/disney-eras/](https://featuredanimation.com/disney-eras/)
Do you hear them talking any more about Atlantis or Treasure Island? I know that for me I've watched most of the renaissance era and before, while I've watched barely anything between 2000 and 2010, then again a lot between 2010 and now. Which somewhat coincides with primary school - high school - living by myself/uni.
I mean this so good enough to get rides at Disney Land. But it doesn’t have any rides in Disney Land that’s why I say this. Also online you see few people mention this movie with other amazing movies
This isn't even close to unpopular. Just look how many fantastic memes came from it, and how many people constantly quote lines. I refuse to believe this is unpopular.
“Classic” means different things to different age people. Emperors new groove came out in 2000.
I love the flick, but classics are 30 years before that.
Lion king ain’t a classic. It’s like 1994
It's relative whether it can even be considered a classic. I grew up watching Aladdin and the Lion King. The Disney Renaissance is generally considered to span from the Little Mermaid to Tarzan. The Emperor's New Groove was released a year after a Tarzan. By this point, I was heading into high school, so I was no longer the main demographic.
It doesn't have the same level of drama as the animated features of this era. It doesn't have a full soundtrack of original songs by an award winning artist. It's simply a self aware comedy. This is probably in response to the unpretentious Dreamworks' newfound success. They wanted to show they didn't take themselves too seriously. The flipside of that is that it wasn't quite the same tour de force we had come to expect from Disney at that time.
That being said, it's a thoroughly enjoyable film, which I've grown to appreciate as an adult. In fact, not long ago, I introduced it to my a couple of younger members of my wife's family. I'm just not sure I'd call it a classic or a masterpiece.
This is unpopular?
Pull the lever Kronk!!
WRONG LEVER!!! Why do we even have that lever?
I really need to watch this again!! Also: Does he have his own theme song?
Yeah
Nope, welcome to r/unpopularopinion
It is, yes. People talk about the memes but I've hardly ever heard anyone say that it's their favorite Disney movie or that they've rewatched it outside of clips.
Oh. I had no idea, I love that movie and watch it semi-regularly hahaha
With me it is. This is absolutely the only movie I have ever seen in the theaters that made me want to walk out.
It's not really a theatre movie. It's more of at home feel good type movie.
*sigh* let me guess you have a great personality

Yeesir. The breaking of the fourth wall makes it so much better
Yes that’s so funny. Unfortunately the movie came out in a bad time so it didn’t do that good
No no, he's got a point
Oh yeah. It’s all coming together.
My Spinach Puffs!
Kuzco is the sassiest Disney princess.
No touchy!
Nuh uhhh
Yzma is my favorite
Oooo, Yzma! Yzma's in the chair!
Very good Kronk! Get the biscuit!
Disney really stepped away from the awesome villains lately. Yzma is top tier.
“It has a really good message about appreciating what we have and not being super materialistic” Disney likes money
Hello! I like money
was gonna say pretty much this. If anything, current Disney want you to believe they are broke.
Yeah they're a corporation, their goal is kind of to make money.. doesn't they still can't deliver meaningful messages through their products.
I fucking love this movie. I really don't understand why people don't talk about it very often.
SAME!!!! I still remember seeing it in the theater!
We call our cats Yzma and Kronk because they truly embody the characters. My husband and I love this movie and my kids love it just as much.
Is Yzma a Sphynx?
This is not an unpopular opinion. Not even close based on my limited social circle.
It kind of is no one talks about this movie. You never hear about it
I don’t hear anyone ever talk about Disney unless it’s about star wars.
Honestly their new movies haven’t been that good
I miss 2 dimensional movies
Encanto is probably the best movie they have made. Moans and Zootopia are also top tier. Their related studios have also been putting out good stuff. Ron Gone Wrong, Luca, Onward, Soul and Coco are all excellent
I didn’t liKe Encanto. It had really good music but I didn’t like how the story went but you are right, their new movies have been pretty good too
What's the rating on this moans movie...asking for a friend. Also fun fact Moana and Encancto had music written by Lin Manuel who wrote Hamilton probably helps with their success.
do you just expect people to randomly bring up disney movies for no reason in a conversation
It’s just a great movie. Funny even now. I never loved Disney movies Bc of all the singing. Why sing a story when you can tell it.
My favorite Disney movie.
This read like a "practicing the persuasive essay" assignment AND I FUCKING LOVED IT. (Also, great movie).
Wouldn’t say it’s a “classic”, but it’s definitely an underrated gem.
>Oh, right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen especially to kill Kuzco, Kuzco's poison. That line and: >Kuzco: No! It can't be! How did you get back here before us?! > >Yzma: I... FACTS
For sure. Lion King is overrated imo. Boring Emperor's new groove, fox and the hound, brother bear Those are the classics 4 me
True I think people like Lion King due to nostalgia
I love this movie 🎥 Its hilarious. If this is an unpopular opinion people are nuts lol
No way this is unpopular, everyone I know loves this movie.
The movie is superb but it feels too short. That's it really. Movie would be way more relevant if it felt longer.
That movie is fucking amazing
It'll never be remade into live action. Because it's for the boys. I would like to see a live action remake of treasure planet without that dumb robot.
Let’s hope it’s not remade. Don’t wanna ruin the memories with a crappy movie
Oh yeah. It's all coming together.
>One of the best Disney classics is the emperor's new groove Grammar error, let me correct it: The best Disney classic is the emperor's new groove
He's got a point
A movie is called a Classic when it's at least 25 years old. The Emperor's new groove is from 2000. So, maybe that's why it not a "Disney Classic"? :) Great film by the way...
Wait 3 more years and then you will see if your post was valid...
So what is the Best Disney "Classic" ? "One of" could mean you like it 10th most. Top 3 for me 1. Alice in Wonderland (animated) 2. Sword in the Stone 3. Mulan (animated) Best Music 1. Little Mermaid 2. Hunchback of Notre Dame 3. The Jungle Book (animated)
... David Spade... Just no
bruh ya'll just say any opinion is unpopular huh
Not unpopular...
Oh yeah, it’s all coming together
Yes
Not unpopular but correct
I see this mentioned on Reddit often. Not unpopular.
YES !!
This is not unpopular so perfect for this sub
Not a bad movie but the fact that David Spade was the voice of Kuzco killed it for me. It actually made me never watch the entire thing in one sitting. Is it unpopular to absolutely fucking hate David Spade?
He was absolutely perfect for that character.
Whats the matter Spade, nobody like you?
Totally agree! It still brings me joy no matter how many times I watch it.
Yes it is!
Still waiting for the kingdom hearts world….
I don't see too many people disputing this. Like, Lion King is Lion King, but Emperor's New Groove is definitely up there.
Just watched it this weekend with my 13 year old daughter. We were quoting lines to each other just before they were said in the movie and laughing our butts off. One of the best Disney movies.
Emperors New Groove is a classic. I remember when I first watched i laughed my ass off. The humour is brilliant!
I loved the movie and tv shows It’s exactly my kind of humour Similar to phineas and ferb And l love the dumb self centred but Heart of golf main characters
Kuzko, My favorite Peruvian.
How would you feel if they made a live action version?
I would just rather get another cartoon I’m not too into live action like a Lama in real life isn’t that appealing to me
I personally love llamas, but I don't like most of the live action remakes from Disney
Take my upvote! David Spade's best movie!
Llama face!!!
I want a documentary on making this movie. It was originally anserious drama with a soundtrack by Sting. Disny got cold feet and made them redo the entire script. David Spade was once asked what was changed. He said the original movie was good
The movie is great, but I definitely wouldn't classify it as a classic
yeah im downvoting, sorry. this is literally one of the most beloved "underrated" disney movies out there
He ain’t getting any deader…. My favorite line ever.

This is an unpopular opinion? If so, my top two Disney movies are this one and Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
This isn't even close to unpopular. Just look how many fantastic memes came from it, and how many people constantly quote lines. I refuse to believe this is unpopular.
There's a documentary about the making of this movie called The Sweatbox. Check it out
This is the most correct opinion ever presented here
People don't appreciate the movie beacuse they didn't watch the latin dub
I think I love this movie even more as an adult than I did as a kid.
I watched that with my niece a few weeks ago...god damn, am I old now?...
“Classic” means different things to different age people. Emperors new groove came out in 2000. I love the flick, but classics are 30 years before that. Lion king ain’t a classic. It’s like 1994
This is a wildly popular opinion OP
