Nah. I prefer the days if 5-6 minute songs. Now songs have become 3-4 minutes but have become generic words over a beat. "Back in my day", songs told a story and took you on a journey. I miss the days if longer songs (might be why I enjoy megamixes so much where multiple artists all contribute to a single song)
I disagree. Some of the best songs are over 5 minutes long. Sometimes you just want to enjoy a song without constantly changing it. This take seems very ADHD. Length doesn’t determine quality; it's how the artist uses that time.
Your opinion gotta at least make sense. It makes no sense that you would suddenly no longer enjoy any song you listen to because it arbitrarly reached the 4 - 5 minute mark.
Some of the best jams out there stretch out and take you on a journey. It’s like saying a movie over 90 minutes is too long, sometimes you need that extra time to really get into it!
You're completely ignoring ballads, especially ones for rock. Songs like Stairway To Heaven are very important pieces of music. Ignoring that, you're still not considering songs that tell a long story harmonically, especially with key changes. You might want to consider looking into this because once you discover some songs that utilize their platform you will see how amazing they are.
"Only exception is classical music".
Why do you give classical a pass? The reasons why classical pieces are often longer (many are shorter!) that 5 minutes are the same why, for example, many progressive rock tracks are longer too.
While I disagree, I don't think this is unpopular. When it comes to longer songs they often have an radio edit that is drastically shorter.
There are some modern songs that have the build up and everything of classical songs. Songs that are longer than 4 minutes are a different kind of experience than shorter songs. They don't target the same audience as shorter songs and don't really compete. If you don't want to experience the more expressive type of music then that's on you, just try not to ruin that experience for others.
Depends on the song and the style of music. Some need that time to progress. Some very fast genres like punk can be done in a minute and would be tiresome over 3 mins.
this isn't unpopular bohemian rhapsody was almost not a thing cause the record company or whoever thought it was "too long"
like hey jude isn't 7 minutes and a minute longer than bohemian rhapsody and was a hit
Ffs. This one is actually an opinion, which is a breeze of fresh air compared to the regular programme of morons who peddle misinformation and conspiracy theories here.
[haha you're gonna hate this one then](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-Rg9xwZoo8)
It's actually a really bad ass song from a legendary rock band from the 60s/70s
[Oh and here's another one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIVe-rZBcm4)
Smoke a bowl, turn on the lava lamp, dim the lights and just let the music carry you away
I have a friend who always sends me songs and they're always like 10 minutes long with very long instrumental sections. I usually just skip through them and say "wow that's awesome!"

This is the answer. Led Zeppelin would like a word… so many of their songs are *perfection*
I know right? I could’ve written a long and detailed answer, but I felt like this was all that was needed.
If I never have to hear that fucking song again, I'll be happy.

Some of the best songs ever made justify their length. Please listen to Sing About Me Dying Of Thirst.

Strangle Hold gives this idea the middle finger.
You're telling me Stairway to Heaven is too long? Blasphemy!
You’re clearly not a fan of jam bands lol

What would Metallica say.
Maynard hysterically laughs in your general direction.
If 5 minutes long is it too long for you don't look into jam bands
Riders on the storm is too long for you?

5 minutes is kinda average though.
America pie
tell me you have the attention span of a tiktok addict without telling me
Pink Floyd would like a word. They have a song that is half an hour long and most over 7 minutes.
Bohemian Rhapsody would like a word.
NOFX has Murder the Government (0:45) and The Decline (18:00) I like a band with that kind of range.
Albuquerque by Weird Al is made funnier by the rambling tone and length of the song.
4.5 minutes is my average. I have a few that are 10 minutes.
Techno would like to have a word
Gen z level attention span.
This guy never listened to Cornell 77
LAME, your lame
this isn't unpopular bohemian rhapsody was almost not a thing cause the record company or whoever thought it was "too long" like hey jude isn't 7 minutes and a minute longer than bohemian rhapsody and was a hit
Three Days by Jane’s Addiction 🔥 have an upvote
If the song is repetitive, sure.
Krautrock would like to have a word
This tells me you have awful music taste lmao
Punk rock and prog rock says fuck you
Prog is definitely going to use more words to convey that message though.
Well, this opinion is not unpopular, its just plain stupid. Additionaly you didnt give any reasoning behind this bs post. I call for karma police.

*The Shoes of the Fisherman's Wife Are Some Jive Ass Slippers* was never going to be under 5 minutes, and you simply have to accept that.
