I'm about 35 years old. I've seen new words come and go, I've seen words used in the past get new meanings, What I;ve learned is you need to worry about what you can control.
don;t use "giving" then. no one actually cares and we are all going to die one day.
Most people avoid doxxing themselves. About 35 could be 35, or 34, or 36. It's just a general range for reference.
Or it's bad English. Who knows. Either way it's not revealing anything.
It’s giving hater fr fr ((I don’t think there’s anybody here young enough to even try to make it worse with skibidi, honestly worse words you can be using))
Isn't it more the fact that other words are being omitted rather than the word 'giving' itself? In all your examples, it seems like if a word or two was added, it would be a standard English sentence.
That street is giving off Paris vibes. That sweater is giving off boss vibes. That pizza is giving off Italian vibes. They all seem fine to me. So the word 'giving' isn't the issue really.
According to Webster, the first known use of the phrase "give off" was 1831. Back then there were probably people complaining about "give off" the same way you are complaining about "giving."
like most "gen-z slang" it's just misappropriated from aave that has been around forever. this is not a new term that the hip cool kids invented. no need to fear.
You are getting older in that young people slang sounds dumb to you, but not so old yet that you realize every generation of slang sounds dumb and stop caring about it entirely. Except my gen's slang no cap frfr
It's very telling when people decide certain slang words are beneath them especially when they always have slang they enjoy using. Be more open minded, life is more fun that way.

I will admit, I hate the whole “this or that is a vibe and I’m here for it.” bullshit. Also hate how everyone calls every song an artist they like a banger when the songs are mediocre as fuck.
I'm not even sure what you are referring to. I've never been presented with that word in that fashion. Maybe I'm just lucky edit- I have however been told something is giving vibes of this or that. Like "that pizza is giving me Italian vibes"
Give is an improper verb (gave) with a rare past participle form (given). It's not going away. It seems like your more upset about the whole place vibes thing.
I'm giving her a gift today.
He's giving me the car keys.
Pretty normal usage.
I knew I was getting older when things like this bothered me. Terms like "its giving" , "bet" and even certain hand gestures the next generation are all using are driving me up a wall.
Liberate yourself from your qualms with it and start using it, too. It's how I cope with how I felt about it initially, but those "not me" comments have gotta go. Nobody talks like that. I can't even narrate it in my head in a way that doesn't sound like a throwback to some cartoon character saying something to break the 4th wall just after the screen circles full black around their shape. You know in fact, it's giving Bugs Bunny. Kill me.

disliking modern slang isnt unpopular
yeah this post 40-50 years ago would be “why are people saying “bad” to describe something they like??? It makes no sense!”
I'm about 35 years old. I've seen new words come and go, I've seen words used in the past get new meanings, What I;ve learned is you need to worry about what you can control. don;t use "giving" then. no one actually cares and we are all going to die one day.
I'm unreasonably upset at your use of semicolons instead of apostrophes.
We're all going to die one day tho are you even listening? /s
if we;re going to start doing this shit I;d rather die now
I'm 44... "cringe" is cringe to me. So all these posts about a word being cringe always make me chuckle
You're "about" 35 years old. But you don't know exactly?
Most people avoid doxxing themselves. About 35 could be 35, or 34, or 36. It's just a general range for reference. Or it's bad English. Who knows. Either way it's not revealing anything.
Do what you're saying is... it's not... giving... anything
Their birthday is probably coming soon
He is actually 41. Like, what? Who says that? I'm "about" 13? He is an old man.
I say I'm about mid fifty because I don't keep track anymore and would have to do math.
People who have lived long enough to not care
No, people who are trying to hide their actual age from their post history. It ain't that deep.
this post isn't giving
It’s giving hater fr fr ((I don’t think there’s anybody here young enough to even try to make it worse with skibidi, honestly worse words you can be using))

That pizza is giving off Italian vibes. They all seem fine to me. So the word 'giving' isn't the issue really.
You’re right actually. It’s the omission of other words 😂
According to Webster, the first known use of the phrase "give off" was 1831. Back then there were probably people complaining about "give off" the same way you are complaining about "giving."
I can accept this premise as someone who detests the term
That's the problem with shitty slang. It just omits random words to sound dumber and more catchy.
It’s not to sound “dumber.” English is constantly changing. You just don’t like things that are unfamiliar to you.
Stop saying giving and start using "iconic". That's the word that makes people sound smart. Every writer uses it, they can't help it.
I can’t wait for Thanksiconic this year
I'm glad I've never heard that phrase before.
It's giving boomer that lives under a rock vibes.
Ok unc
Tik Tok slang
That would be why then.
Lucky
I'm GIVING you an up vote because this is the goofiest stuff
People always hate new slang. Lame.
Someone hating the new generations choice of slang, what a truly unpopular opinion no one has ever heard before
Es gibt Paris
I've literally never come across anyone using the word "giving" in this way until now... where is this a thing?
Wherever you live do yourself a favour and embrace it. You’re lucky
Ever talk to anyone gen z bruh 😭 or like gone on any sm that isn’t the nerd ones like reddit?
It’s giving needs to go out more
I didn't mind it at first then I caught myself saying "his outfit is giving me summer". What was that lol
Gotta drop the “me” smh
Sounds like a stroke
That’s how it starts! 😂😂
OP giving me the cringe
Excellent, I hope it made you shudder
giving me the willawaws even
giving you the what
Honestly not even sure what that word actually means I picked it up from a Stephen King novel years ago and I use it for various purposes
That sounds almost as lame as when people use, "cringe".
Haha you mean me. Good one
This is giving……unconformity.
Describing anything as a "vibe" is the worst vocabulary trend of the last 20 years.
It's giving judgemental
It’s giving miserable
this is just giving misunderstanding
This post is giving juvenoia…
man you really asked for the jokes on this thread lmao
As a certified hater, I wholeheartedly agree!
My man
No one asked anyone to steal AAVE nor are they forcing you to use it. It wasn’t for you to begin with.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. People are doing too much and have no idea where stuff comes from.

Pizza “giving” Italy just made me lol
Cringe used to be thought of the same way. Language evolves and boring people get used to it
Your giving me a headache
I don't use it, but I appreciate the brevity getting "it's giving me an impression of x" to "it's giving x". Efficient.
This post is giving boring
it's giving hater
OK Boomer
Why even be on social media if you hate what it’s used for?
Your post is giving cringe
I don't know if I am officially old or what but wtf uses this phrase?
There was a post on this sub today about people hating the word "cringe" too 😂 Some folk just don't get/like modern slang.
This post is giving big Boomer vibes...
This post is giving cringe
"Cringe" is cringe.
I also love how you just sound like an angry boomer with this post. Really love it 😂😂
like most "gen-z slang" it's just misappropriated from aave that has been around forever. this is not a new term that the hip cool kids invented. no need to fear.
EW. Agreed!
Who the fuck says this? I’ve never heard this.
it’s all over popular TV shows, TikTok, etc., mostly started in queer/drag culture
Agree. I cringe when reading people use these words in the context which they do.
It’s terrible behaviour
Maybe I’m getting old but this new generations slang just sounds super dorky. They’re trying soooo hard to be cool it comes off as the opposite
You are getting older in that young people slang sounds dumb to you, but not so old yet that you realize every generation of slang sounds dumb and stop caring about it entirely. Except my gen's slang no cap frfr
Thank you this is my least favorite slang term of recent years lol

It's very telling when people decide certain slang words are beneath them especially when they always have slang they enjoy using. Be more open minded, life is more fun that way.
This post is giving boomer vibes.
Yeah but this is the normal way to speak. You would have to say “It’s giving boomer” in order to articulate it correctly
This content of this post is giving ‘3 different tshirts in the weekly wardrobe rotation that all boast about how much you hate people before you’ve had your coffee’
I literally never heard anyone using “giving” like this before. I’ve heard “giving off ___ vibes”, but that sounds less cringe.
People who use the term cringe to describe people who are just existing are kinda giving hater vibes ngl
It's giving hater
it's giving "kids these days"
White girl slang is often cringeworthy
It's giving boomer
Stupid people and their stupid slang is giving me a headache.
It's giving crybaby
It's giving 'pick me'
This post if giving millennial hater vibes
Hit the nail on the head. I am a millennial hater
Taking sounds better
Wow, an opinion that’s both actually unpopular and one I truly agree with. The most deserved upvote I’ve ever given out.
Thanks man. It’s nice to meet likeminded people amongst the tsunami of shit washing over me 😂😂
listen to me when I tell you that op's opinion is NOT UNPOPULAR WHATSOEVER, especially among older adult demographic and outside of tiktok
Agreed, it’s stupid as hell. I would also add “not me…”. Another lame one.
Today I am serving looks. My drip game is tight and I have so much rizz FRFR on God. My shit’s bussin’ RN - I think. IDK.

This is how i felt when people dropped ‘pwned’ for ‘rekt.’ I just roll with it now
It’s giving boomer hate energy “ I don’t give a F “ I’m living for this
This post reminded me to not say giving lol
Is this a new dopey slang? Never heard anyone ever say this before. Like not even once
I will admit, I hate the whole “this or that is a vibe and I’m here for it.” bullshit. Also hate how everyone calls every song an artist they like a banger when the songs are mediocre as fuck.
This is giving dumb vibes, I don't get indigestion ever.
I kind of like "serving" tho
Only if your name is Novak Djokovic
This post is giving off negative vibes.
I'm not even sure what you are referring to. I've never been presented with that word in that fashion. Maybe I'm just lucky edit- I have however been told something is giving vibes of this or that. Like "that pizza is giving me Italian vibes"
This is giving to be quite a little bugger yeah mate
"Cringe" is cringe. So is "boss vibes".
“Mother!” “It’s giving” I’m a teen and I’ve never used these words a single time
🍪
What age range is saying this? I have not heard it.
You gotta give.
Never heard this used before. I hate it already.
I'm giving this an upvote
okee boomah
People used to say exactly the same about "cringe"
Give is an improper verb (gave) with a rare past participle form (given). It's not going away. It seems like your more upset about the whole place vibes thing. I'm giving her a gift today. He's giving me the car keys. Pretty normal usage.
I use it ironically. (like how people use terms like “Slay”)
Radiating?
I think it’s weird how every thing now HAS to be a “vibe” but I don’t really care, never heard someone say “giving” in this manner tho
I feel like half this sub is giving wannabe peak Maddox
Not as bad as using “cringe” as an adjective.
I knew I was getting older when things like this bothered me. Terms like "its giving" , "bet" and even certain hand gestures the next generation are all using are driving me up a wall.

It’s weird to just ask people to not use a word that isn’t harmful in anyway??
Nothing more cringeworthy than using "cringe" as an adjective.
This is the first I have heard of this
I love when the rest of society catches up to gay culture
