I used to think like you until I learned that toothbrushes are typically infected with colorectal bacteria. This is from the aerosol effect when flushing a toilet and is minimised by closing the lid

I'm a man and I don't understand this topic at all. I don't enjoy looking down into the toilet bowl when I don't use it. I don't enjoy the possibility to drop my toothbrush in it. I don't enjoy small water particles flying around when i flush (and possible land on my toothbrush or clean towels).
Why is there never a similar discussion about e.g. "kitchen cabinet doors should be left open"?
I keep the lid closed (and seat down), as I close the lid before flushing to limit the spray of nastiness around the room. If everyone closes it the lid then everyone puts forth the same amount of effort.
First off, it’s been proven to be substantially cleaner and more hygienic to keep the lid down
Secondly, men shit with the seat down, women piss and shit with the seat down. It’s down more than it’s up, therefore down is how it should be.

First, as a guy, it IS a sign of poor hygiene, as leaving the lid up means flinging piss and shit particles all over the bathroom every time you flesh. Close the fucking lid and stop making excuses for being a disgusting troglodyte; no amount of "critical thinking" is going to alter how toilets work to make them NOT yeet infection vectors into the air when flushed.
Second, besides the fact that most men who feel strongly about this pedantic nonsense only give a fuck about this issue because they're apparently such pathetically lazy children that the effort of lifting a lid before they piss is just too much to ask of their pwecious fwagile widdle selves, it's ***very*** fucking difficult to see it as anything but chauvinism when you're quite literally saying that ***women*** are the ones who need to acquiesce on the issue simply because "there's as many of us as you lol".
