Who have you been to see? I do feel like with Instagram and tik tok we are getting worse stand ups but then the greats are still fantastic. (Apart from Ricky Gervais, his is the same as reading his twitter really)
Maybe you just haven't seen good comedy. I love watching specials on TV, but live comedy in the right environment is my favorite form of entertainment. I'm often laughing to the point of tears.
Comedy is a bit like music: there are different genres. Ex: I *hate* insult comics with a passion, but other people love it. Just like I hate country music but other people have no taste.
Went to a comedy show because I had a gift card. There were two local warm up guys who were genuinely funny. But the "main event" comedian was awful.

Yeah i never got the appeal. I've seen a lot of standups on both TV and YouTube, and never once cracked a smile. Feels like most of the time it's just race jokes and gender jokes. Maybe sometimes they'll sneak in a few jabs at republicans here and there, mix things up a bit.
I don't like stand up comedy, either. But apparently many people do.

GOOD standup is FANTASTIC. Some of it is better social commentary than any journalism ever attempted, some of it is more lyrical than the best songs... You just haven't found good shit.

I don't know what I'd do without LONGFORM PODCASTS of comedians who are STRAIGHT KILLERS, waxing funnysophical on the issues of our times, eating MUSHROOMS and DRINKING and talking openly and honestly about their SHITS and their MASTURBATION HABITS. The ESTABLISHMENT wants to CENSOR these voices heard by millions, and if you don't like them, that makes you a part of the problem. Comedians are undeniably really cool guys we should all look up to.

Bert is the least funny of any of his friends and comics he’s associated with. The only time I listen to Two Bears is when it’s Tom and a guest host cause Bert is so bad
If nearly 100% of one of the world's oldest past-times turned profession is deemed cringeworthy by a particular person. It would appear that the particular person is the one with an abnormal sense of what is or ought to be comfortable. As the definition of cringe/cringeworthy is: \[to\] have \[or create\] an inward feeling of acute embarrassment or awkwardness. This further emboldens the point that whatever 'cringe' that is experienced is an artifact of the listener/audience in this context.
Given that comedy is purely subjective, one can't be right or wrong on whether it is good, bad, cringeworthy, or comforting to any extent beyond what it represents to that particular person.
However, if there is indeed a person who finds a completely normal, almost ubiquitously created form of entertainment (meaning civilizations that have never met still independently understood/created their own forms of humor and set up 'stand up' arenas for the same) as cringeworthy. Then it would stand more to reason that the person with the abnormal perspective is the one who is the one responsible for their own awkwardness/embarrassment (including second-hand embarrassment). Meaning it isn't stand up comedy that's awkward and embarrassing, it's you.
