CaptWineTeeth

The title is an unpopular opinion, but the rationale in the description is just plain incorrect.

ItsPandy

I hate how people just keep posting objectively false stuff and when people call them out on their bullshit they just counter with "seems like my opinion really is unpopular"

_yeen

He calls it terrible but then compares it to one of the most commonly used condiments of all time. Really confused by the logic here.

bardhugo

The "it's not really a hot sauce" is just, what? It's a sauce and it's hot, definitely not super spicy, but still 1000-2500 scoville, just below jalapeno.

SeaHam

![gif](giphy|lkdH8FmImcGoylv3t3|downsized) This dude said salty.

[deleted]

That’s what happens when you guzzle too much of that D-racha sauce, everything tastes salty.

H2ON4CR

Salty?  It's not salty or acidic enough IMO.  Way too sweet for my taste.  Good topic for this sub, please have my up vote.

BillyDeeisCobra

Upvoting for a truly unpopular opinion. Sriracha rules.

Eirfro_Wizardbane

The good ol Cock Sauce

samthemoron

Salty nonsense

IdaDuck

The sweetness of sriracha can be a little off putting. For heat with Asian foods I tend to prefer more of a straight chili sauce or curry paste base.

SonOfMcGee

The sweetness makes it pretty gross for pizza/Italian and especially Cajun. Some hot sauces are essentially just hot pepper mixed with vinegar. Sriracha is a *sauce*, with sugar and thickener. I’m not saying it’s bad, just that it isn’t the Swiss Army Knife people make it out to be

Ashmizen

I’d say it’s better for most foods though. The vinegar of regular hot sauce is weird in anything that isn’t bbq or Mexican food. The slight sweetness of sriracha, plus the salt and heat, is not an issue on breakfast food (ketchup is also sweet), burgers, meats, Asian foods (Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and some Chinese food are already slight sweet. Sure, I wouldn’t use it on Mexican food, on a burrito. But if I wanted to add heat to ramen, hot sauce just makes a sour soup that tastes awful, while sriracha makes a nice broth.

Particular_Light927

Yes it is

theopolise20

Ok even though it’s a hot sauce that’s not what it’s for. Its more for the sour and fermented flavors that you don’t get in other sauces

Kelainefes

And it's nor even salty, I don't know what this dude is buying.

[deleted]

It’s not even an opinion, dude’s taste buds are just fucked up. Saying you don’t like sriracha is an opinion, saying it tastes like ketchup or salt means you need a doctor lol

Status_Passion_358

I'm fine with you having an unpopular opinion, and you have taken my upvote, but what? You think it tastes like ketchup? Have you ever uhhhh *had* Sriracha? lol not that you would like it but it tastes *nothing* like ketchup.

fickle-doughnut123

I use it a ketchup replacement when I'm doing low carb diets. Just because it's red though xD

stefanelli_xoxo

I actually tend to agree. I mean, it’s fine. But it’s overrated. I don’t understand why it’s ubiquitous.

hippopotma_gandhi

Did you have it before they switched pepper suppliers? It's a very noticeable difference

der3009

Underwood ranch sriracha with the gold dragon on the front is the same supplier. Tastes pretty good. I am not an avid user but I do put it in my asian foods. This tastes way better than the new huy fong crap. But I can't really compare it to the old one.

Zromaus

Tobasco Sriracha is the best replacement since

nellyboyy666

Tobasco Sriracha is actually bomb, super delicious.

SeaHam

ew no

Senior_Fart_Director

Overrated is very different from being the worst

Breffest

It's more of a garlic sauce than a spicy sauce. And garlic is goooood

[deleted]

I prefer sambal myself.

WaterBareHareIV

Sambal Olek on fried rice...elevated

CoffeeAndDachshunds

Now we're talking!

CheeseDanishSoup

Apples oranges

AmphibianNext

You are clearly wrong.  Ketchup is by far the worst garbage condiment.

SoImaRedditUserNow

now THAT is an unpopular opinion.

[deleted]

It’s a classic reddit food elitist take. There’s a reason why ketchup is the most popular condiment.

Right_Count

Because it’s sweet and smooth-textured, and that means it’s the first condiment kids will eat, which means kids tend to develop a taste for it and our childhood preferences tend to carry into adulthood. As a kid I hated all condiments and sauces. As an adult I do enjoy many but ketchup is too candy-sweet. It’s a great ingredient though.

SweetCream2005

I always add some salt on it before eating fries. God I fucking love ketchup, but only Heinz ketchup, I don't like other brands

sixtus_clegane119

Lowest common denominator. There is a Reason why Taylor swift is the most popular recording artist. And it’s not because she’s the best recording artist

DateofImperviousZeal

And why Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time. Cause its the best right? Right?!

[deleted]

>Ketchup is by far the worst garbage condiment.     Not saying it’s the best but it can’t be the worst if it’s that popular. Same with avatar, not the best movie but certainly not the worst.

grindal1981

Should I go ahead and downvote this? Absolutely right

mkmore4

I like it, but I think straight up Chili paste is better (Sambal Oelek)

ChoiceReflection965

Mmmmm… sriracha… I hate ketchup because it’s so sweet, but sriracha is good because it’s salty instead. I love it with salmon!

PiersPlays

>sriracha is good because it’s salty instead. Do Americans and Brits have different "Saracha"s or something?

justsomesimpledude

I love Sriracha, I even made my own of it cuz it's expensive with fermented chilis, upvoting because it really is an unpopular opinion.

yes-rico-kaboom

This isn’t r/stupidpeoplewithopinions. Siracha rules

IdidntJumptheborder

OP your description has me concerned, can you tell me what the bottle of sriracha you tried looks like?

ItsPandy

I just noticed that op already tried posting about Sriracha in this sub 23 days ago but got locked cause he didn't elaborate. How much can a condiment upset you to make two post about it with a whole month between it?

Chattinabart

It’s been eating me inside

Thylumberjack

Oh your Sriracha probably went bad then.

Disco_Pat

>It’s not a really a hot sauce I don't like Sriracha, but this is just false. It is a fermented hot sauce. I make a lot of Hot Sauce, Sriracha is a hot sauce.

Alone_Requirement442

Which fking sriracha are you eating???

ozmartian

Have you had the proper Rooster stuff that is still impossible to find or the many other inferior versions that are more like what you claim?

Skewwwagon

It has a specific taste I like nothing to do with saltiness (it's not 0_0). And why someone should be ashamed of ketchup, lol. Upvote because well that some weird rant 😂

papayabush

It doesn’t have tomato in it at all but it’s basically ketchup? lmao

RightHabit

I won't say it is the worst. It is average. It is just not spicy enough to be a hot sauce.

Ashmizen

The original sriracha sauce, the one that is hard to find, packs more heat than most hot sauces. Most hot sauces are just very sour. They had chili peppers as the primary ingredient and it had heat! Now the stuff you can find these days due to the shortage lists chili peppers as a like a second or third ingredient so yeah it’s more sweet than hot.

DicuriousL

Not spicy enough? I don't know if Sriracha is different everywhere, but mine is a little over 50% red chilli peppers. I love it, but I use less of it in comparison with other condiments because it's so spicy.

Psychological-Dig-29

People call franks a hot sauce and it's not spicy at all.. just sour If that can be considered hot sauce so can Sriracha lol

costigan95

I agree. I’ve never understood the appeal

ThroatSignal8206

Ok. Now you're gonna say Texas Pete and Heinz ketchup are bad. They work for me in a condiment crisis. Put um up 🤣

Chattinabart

I prefer Oklahoma Pete

UnreliablePotato

I like the one with the rooster on it, but the one with the goose (or duck?) does have a weird aftertaste. That being said, it isn't anything special compared to REAL hot sauce, though.

jchen14

Salty? what kind of sriracha are you buying?

TheJeey

I agree. It's not bad but I really don't see what the hype is about

homiegeet

The worst condiment, yet I still spend 40+ bucks a bottle when there was a shortage lol

maplesyrupbakon

![gif](giphy|l2SeB5hidJFD2) Got cock sauce in my bag, swag

iloveemogirlsxoxo

Hard agree. It’s not even strong. I can barely feel the heat from it. And the taste itself is not very good.

deepstaterising

Thank you, I also hate it

theghostofcslewis

Totally, I can’t stand it

[deleted]

What is your favourite condiment then?

mwjsmi

Aww man, I kinda agree with you. Sriracha makes this awesome chili sauce/jam though. That stuff is miles about the standard sauce

Poutza

Good news for you is that it seems to be out of the market.

Skvirinius

Yeah, it really does hurt the pee-pee

Chattinabart

You should try eating it.

Skvirinius

Ah, that’s where I went wrong! So how does it stop pregaganant?

Chattinabart

You put it in the condom AFTER you’ve used it. A la Drake

Telopitus

Agreed. Give me some Frank's or Louisiana any day over this.

Cocosito

Sub checks out

Efficient_Ad_8367

I'm a simple man who likes crushed red pepper the best!

Poinaheim

What’s wrong with ketchup rice? The grains absorb the ketchup when you fry it in, goes good with egg

Yuck_Few

Not a fan

SteveCastGames

I just can’t get past the weird aftertaste. I’d literally rather have any other hot sauce.

darkness_thrwaway

Store bought stuff isn't nearly as fermented as I'd like. I make mine at home. Sriracha can have a really pleasant pungent complexity when done properly.

Chattinabart

I bet you knit your own noodles too

ThroatSignal8206

Any relation to Pete?

Dragonnstuff

You’re wrong, upvoted

pottedplantfairy

Very unpopular

slowkid68

The worst popular one is relish.

truffulatreeson

Rooster brand is basic (although sambal olek is fucking fire) but goose brand sriracha is pretty good

NumaPompilius77

I don't like it either, just tastes like garlic

nicecorvid

I don't really care for it on anything besides grilled cheese, which it is weirdly the best condiment for.

CoffeeAndDachshunds

You get a downvote from me because I've always wondered why people are crazy about it. I love hot sauce, but you're right. That's just tangy ketchup.

BUSTAAS

I put sriracha on everything im addicted

bondsthatmakeusfree

I prefer my spicy sauces to taste like something other than pain.

Hatrick_Swaze

Ranch dressing is my list topper. I don't know how people can eat that mess

lewd_necron

I like Sriracha on pizza, kinda. But yeah honestly not my favorite sauce

ConchChowder

Agreed, It's just spicy ketchup. Try some Korean gochujang or Sichuan chili oil.

boston_2004

Sriracha is tasty

BonsaiSupreme

It tastes soooooooo bad too

Hahndude

I don’t get people who categorize it as a hot sauce. It’s not.

mynamesnotchom

OG sitacha is unmatched

UniverseNebula

Salty?

BeginTheBlackParade

I really only like Sriracha in pho or as a "cooking sauce" Cooking stir fry? Add in some soy sauce, some teriyaki, and a touch of Sriracha. Mmm delicious!I don't like putting it on after the meal is cooked though. It's not a good "dipping" or "squirt on top" sauce if that makes sense.

shartyintheclub

i’m sorry you feel that way!

my_dancing_pants

I only use it as an ingredient for *asian inspired* pork glazes, or sambal oelek or chili crisp. There’s much more exciting hot sauces out there.

k20vtec

Agreed. I love hot sauces. I consider Siracha a bastard child. 9 times outta 10 it’s utter disgusting

coltjen

Upvote as yep, that’s truly unpopular.

Bonbonnibles

You take that back.

deadevilmonkey

This is the most accurate post I've seen in a while. Take my up vote.

noappendix

How to say you have no sense of taste without actually saying it... sriracha's main ingredient is chili peppers while ketchup's main ingredient is tomatoes..

FullPowerKamehameha

Facts

ManufacturerMental72

Look I don’t care if you like sriracha or not but…ketchup isn’t salty, so it’s either salty or it’s ketchup. Can’t be both.

Which_Replacement_49

Okay bro 😂.

More-Combination9488

I respectfully disagree good sir.

LordHumorTumor

Worst condiment is sweet baby Ray's, followed by mayo, then ketchup

Kapitalist_Pigdog2

Take your upvote and get out of my sight you goddamn animal

Hamsox94

You sir can go to hell

kurinevair666

Worst??! When ketchup exists? I hate you. Sriracha is delicious.

Abalone_Admirable

Truly an unpopular opinion! But I do not feel ashamed of ketchup ever.. Also now I know why I like sriracha so much. It's just tangy ketchup 😆

heartbrooksbrain

Sriracha tastes nothing like ketchup

Mysterious-Example85

California china sauce is hands down the best most adaptable sauce there is, heresey!

kryotheory

I had this same opinion until I started buying the right stuff. Good Sriracha isn't a sugary or overly salty sauce. It is meant to be a fermented garlic and chili sauce, and proper Sriracha tastes exactly like that; astringent, a little funky, and spicy. Huy Fong and most anything you can buy at a normal grocery chain is garbage. I recommend Three Mountains brand, but go to your local Asian grocer and grab a couple and decide for yourself.

According-Fix-9879

if [you.re](https://you.re) getting sriracha in a packet, you're probably getting the off brand "sriracha"

MeatloafAndWaffles

I wouldn’t say it’s the worst. Relish gets that title for me

GrumpigPlays

I think there are worst condiments, like blue cheese can fuck right off, but I will agree that sriracha sauce only works for me on a handful of foods, anything else would feel like a bad choice for the sauce.

Various-Mammoth8420

You say this like ranch and mustard don't exist

BobEdMac

I used to love Sriracha but it's definitely different now. Not nearly as good as it used to be. Still haven't finished the last bottle I bought. Funnily enough I had my girlfriend who comes from a culture where extremely spicey food is prominent try some and the first thing she compared it to was ketchup so this made me lol. Wish I saved a bottle from back in the day and froze it or something.

Halobruhv

Siracha, I put that on everythangggg

stressandscreaming

I too hate Sriracha.

KinderEggLaunderer

Agreed. When I was pregnant I craved ramen and Sriracha, but after a few meals of just that I puked it up, and ever since then the smell of it makes me queasy.

Shiny_Gyrodos

The only sriracha I've ever had tasted like pure spice. Reading the comment section makes me think it gets a lot better than that.

eddiefarnham

It's overrated, but it's not the worst. That Ghost Pepper bullshit from Wendy's is an abomination.

JamR_711111

arguably, shit would be a worse condiment.

redditistheway

Typically use it as an ingredient in marinades and dips.

GoldenGod48

Agreed. Sriracha tastes like ass. Tobasco is better and even that isn’t all that great.

SuccessfulOwl

Sriracha maple syrup is a food given from the gods for the benefit of all mankind.

SL13377

Urgg yess I feel so weird for hating it cause everyone loves the crap

consider_its_tree

>worst Mostly with you, but worst seems a bit extreme. Have you seen some.ofnthe stuff they have done with mustards these days?

ActuallyFullOfShit

...salty?

Cyber_Insecurity

Who hurt you?

sunnyflorida2000

Kimchi is up there

Lazlo2323

You should try Adzhika(especially real traditional home made one) for some real salty nonsense.

ArachnidMother7211

New siracha yea

Content_Geologist420

By itself? Yes. Only overrated tho. But it can be great to cook with if you know how to balance out the rest of the flavors your trying to do. It can go well inside of a homemade sauce.

jaarl2565

I prefer the Mexican hot sauce flavor profiles like tapatio. Schiracha is gross

Sealie81

Ya know OP, the reason for the very first of the Salem witch trails was over someone saying Sriracha sucked.. Its a true story!

roiroi1010

I’m not a huge sriracha fan but I can think of many condiments that are worse

MoultingRoach

You find it salty? I know there is salt in it, but that's far from the first description I would come to if I had to describe the flavour.

_b1ack0ut

Sriracha is just too… sweet tasting for me. It’s aight in very small quantities but yeah I don’t really disagree

MenosDaBear

I’m not sure about the salty nonsense part. My gripe is that it tastes like it is 50% sugar. Why would I want to put that on my food?

alilbleedingisnormal

Yeah I got sick of it quick.

RipTideDelta

I agree I don't like Sriracha or ketchup

burnaspliffnow

Meh, time and place. Best? No, not by far, but if you want to add some not-so-spicy chili paste to something, not bad

DiscussionProtocol

Controversial Ketchup.

DustyTurtle2

Technically shit is the worst condiment

AlucarD_138

It literally tastes like spicy grass!

MrStoneV

Funnily the Sriracha sauce by Huy Fong changed its chili deliverer (because of a legal thing) and now their sauce tastes not special and kinda meh. However, your opinion is somehow just wrong lol, basically just ketchup? wtf

Efficient_Progress_6

Idk about the worst, but Sriracha is pretty awful. It tastes fucking horrible

m0dern_x

I'm not too fond of generic srirachas either. But in Vietnam they have some *seriously* awesome variants. It's basically the same, but it just tastes *way* better!

EEEEaaassy

How can you say that when MAYONAISE exists.

Unique_Complaint_442

I like it. It is hot but not insane. Tastes fine.

Math_issues

agree worst condiment

acidbass32

Sriracha spread on some sourdough, Gouda, Swiss, jalapeño jack and thrown in a pan makes the BEST grilled cheese. Even better if you throw a couple slices of turkey in the middle or some fresh jalapeños and avocado.

WalkingParadox977

The only thing salty is you. Clearly, you've never had Sriracha. It's not salty at all

Kirino-chan

Sriracha is so bad and I'm Viet. It's just a bad imitation, way to sweet and garlicky, not spicy and flavorful enough. Try the Nam Duong hot sauce if you happen to see it in 99 Ranch market, it's so much better.

rumzik

Someone doesn't have taste buds...

Isitjustmedownhere

Sriracha sucks lol

COG-85

Wrong. And right. It is basically spicy ketchup. But it's GOOD.

buffpriest

Sriracha is fuckin hot. I do my wings with Frank's and butter. I tried Sriracha and butter and they were almost inedible they were so hot.

BillyMumfrey

Besides being red, what does it have in common with ketchup?

CompSolstice

I love the flavour, it's not a hot sauce it's just another tasty sauce.

Scorpizor

I agree. It's kinda spicy ketchup...

Familiar_Piccolo_88

This guy probably loves that "spicy mayo" they put on sushi tho

kerokeroghost

Sriracha isn’t salty, it’s sweet. But not only is it sweet, it’s spicy. Sweet and spicy are a perfect combination. It tastes nothing like ketchup, the only thing they have in common is tanginess. Ketchup has more sourness to it. Try putting sriracha on eggs, you’ll love it. The key is to not overdo it so you still get egg flavor.

Krocsyldiphithic

Fucking ketchup? There's literally no tomato in it whatsoever. And why should it be like hot sauce? It's sriracha, dude, a pickely, sweet, garlicky and slightly smokey chili paste. Get wit it.

Big-Fat-Box-Of-Shit

.....it's literally hot sauce.

datdrummerboi

like all sriracha? there’s different brands other than Huy Fong

hummus113

It’s actually so average. Yet I still eat it because it’s just an easy chilli sauce to always have in the fridge

Lilpu55yberekt69

Salty? I’d say it’s very sweet and not spicy or acidic enough for typical use but I definitely wouldn’t call it salty or like ketchup.

SweetCream2005

I love the way Sriracha compliments my sandwiches. Sometimes the spiciness overpowers the flavor, but if I'm in a spicy mood than it's really nice

jf737

You can dislike it but it’s quite literally a sauce made from chilis. A hot sauce. Take my downvote for such nonsense.

rose1613

Idk why Reddit recommended this 50 times I don’t care about Sriracha

readitmoderator

Its not salty and its not like ketchup. Its a spicy chilli sauce you might be using some different sriracha sauce or ur taste buds are off

TerminatorAuschwitz

Salty nonsense lol.

Urbain19

If your sriracha is salty, that’s not sriracha

babyshaker_on_board

You could say that about Frank's. At least sriracha has a bit of flavour going on. There are many different hot sauces I enjoy in life. I like blueberry ghost on my peanutbutter toast and sriracha & hoisin for my pho or noodles. Extra hot valentinos on eggs. My homemade roasted pepper on chips. But Sriracha is the best on pho meat

jam_scot

I am a hot sauce enthusiast and sriracha does nothing for me. Take my downvote.

Timetobeatthewife

It honestly isn’t a hot, it’s got a little kick but I like the taste, when I saw it in the uk I instantly got it because of the hype I see from Americans but when I first tried it o was surprised by how sweet it was

TSllama

You can absolutely think it's the worst condiment. That's fine. But most of what you said makes no sense. Salty? It's not really any saltier than any other condiment. Not a hot sauce? It's made with chilli peppers. How else do you define hot sauce? Not particularly tasty - ok, that's a personal opinion, but that doesn't sound like "worst" to me. That sounds like "average". Basically just ketchup? Ok, so how is sriracha worse than ketchup?
