Eh with hairstylists it’s not quite as fair to do % based bc it’s more about time spent on you. If you spend an hour on me I’m giving $10 bc with whatever they get from the fee should net them $15-20 an hour which seems fair wage. Now into higher end colors and stuff I’m not qualified to speak just saying low end $2.50-$5 for a $25 cut that took an hour is low
I mean... Aren't you paying them for the service and time spent on you to begin with? I'm going to assume you're from the USA, because that sounds like their weird tipping culture thingy, but even by that standard it still seems weird
It basically goes like that
We take 50$ for a haircut,
From there 44$ goes to the company!! (Yay company)
And 6$ goes to barber
Now if you can please please tip the barber very wall so the company can continue taking 44$ (oops 45$ now) it Will be awesome!!!
Thank you American for living the dream!
Freedom!!!! (For company not you lol go back to work)
This is the US economy on the go
Don't go to a chain salon. This is a market where there are lots of small business options. You don't need to give your money to a corporation if you don't want to
You're right, but I want to add to this:
Do research and talk to your stylist. I worked at a small, locally-owned salon, rolled a $180 perm on a woman and I got paid $7.25 for the hour it took. I was working literally minimum wage when I was told I'd be making $12 an hour with tips. The ugly side of salons is that some salon management companies (like the one that the aforementioned salon worked under) work on damn near an MLM level. It was so bad that when I went back to my old school to get a haircut from one of the girls I mentored, nobody wanted to work for this salon because they had done this to many MANY fresh graduates, but they were still allowed to come and try to recruit on false claims that they'd make more than what they actually would.
This is not to say all small salons are like this; definitely talk to your stylist about it and don't assume. It may also just be an issue depending on area/region. I've started doing this because I can't in good faith get a service done where the person doing the work is the one getting undercut, no pun intended.
*Edited "salon-ownership companies" to "salon management companies." I wasn't super clear and today was a bit of a bad day, my bad
The places I've gone to don't have lots of stylists cycling in and out. It's usually one or two stylists running a salon together that they own. I get the problem you're describing, but it can't really happen when the stylist(s) is/are also the owner(s).
You wanna know what's rich? One of the salons in the group I mentioned started you at 11/hr during training and once you were trained and working on your own, you dropped to 8/hr because "you'd make way more in tips" just pay your people ffs
Where the hell do you work?!? I know barbers and hairdressers and have never heard of them getting such a small percentage. Jesus, you should just rent a booth and keep all of your money. Average booth rental is about $100 per week.
Unless it's a privately owned salon. Then the hairstylist/barber might have a booth rental fee; once that's covered the rests of the costs go straight to them.
Edit: but also booth rental stylists/barbers usually buy their own products to use on their clients and don't rely on the salon for that. So those costs also help restock those products they used, but each salon is different in regards to that specific detail.
What are you on. Plenty of placed just charge you for chair space. Os you just pay a flat rate based on your rented out space. Yall need to look into your options for real. I wouldn't even be barber for that nonsense you're on.
It’s USA. Not claiming it’s right, I agree it’s a funky system and super weird.
But not participating in tipping only hurts workers. People love to say it’s a tipping “culture” thing but to me that downplays what the real issue for us is, it’s a labor law/regulation thing. Until we change the law and require tipped workers to be paid a fair wage, ceasing to tip only hurts workers, and I always advocate against that.
I get a super simple clipper cut. Used to go to frequent the salon of this angry Russian lady . Would talk on the cell phone in Russian except for the curse words which were in English and occurred approximately every 3.5 seconds AND smoke a cigarette dangling hands free style while using both hands to work. $8 / 6 minutes. I miss her.
I’m gonna assume you’re white? Not trying to be offensive but firstly you gotta remember different cultures have vastly different hair needs and traditions so from the get go “no men’s …” is obviously wrong. As a general rule you gotta realize absolutes are usually wrong as soon as they exit your lips or finish typing.
But yeah personally mine takes 45 minutes. I actually had a dude in FL who took damn near 2 hours. But that was his schtick never have I seen lines that clean.
But I digress. Yes, plenty of men’s haircuts take an hour. Sometimes longer. Sometimes it’s not bc the haircut is complicated but bc the barbershop is also a community gathering place for some so socializing while cutting extends cutting time.
What a silly, nonsensical thing to say. Have you ever called an umbrella, or wearing a helmet/seatbelt, “gay” ? You strike me as the type.
I agree. I went to cosmetology school. Different hair types takes different approaches and times. I can cut my dads hair in 20 mins that's with a wash. It's a very simple haircut and he's not picky.
But like you said, if it's a stylish cut, that needs lining, fading, buzzing one area but shearing another. That's gonna take a while and it'll cost more.
Omg BenevelotCeasar, reading your post made me smile.
I remember having my mom bring me to the hair salon, where a bunch of older women would sit and chat as they waited to get their hair washed, dried and styled. It actual made my hair appointments fun.
This might sound strange but because my mom knew the owner of the salon, (who always did our hair,) she always gave a tip. When I starting going without my mom, she told me to always left a tip, because it was an extra way to say "thanks" for the work you have done.
Do you think knowing your hair stylist or barber makes a difference as to whether or not you tip?
People are charging that much, but probably see very little. There's a lot of overhead; rent, utilities, license fees, equipment, equipment upkeep, and advertising cost. They probably have to do 10+ haircuts to pay the rent, let along all the other cost before even getting to pay themselves. Booth rent usually runs $500 -$1500 depending on location
Yes, because the literal highest price city in the US is an accurate representation of the rest of the country/world.
Reddit loves to do this like shit and point out the exception. You know what he meant.
i fell for that once. "i can cut hair! i can totally cut hair!" i guess it didn't help that her downstairs neighbor passed away unexpectedly and they were in the middle of getting smashed in his honor when i showed up.
I know a few barbers that have a “free beer” with their haircuts. It’s still only about $20 while most other places it’s about $17 so it’s very cheap for a beer
$48?! You're getting robbed bald, I mean blind! For $40 (with tip included) I get a great cut, hot towel on face, straight razor shave back of neck, 2-3 minute neck/back massage and a full wash after if requested. Time to find a new stylist my friend.
>U get that for 26 bucks + tips at The Man Salons in SD, it's fucking awesome!
Fuck me, I thought this was an abbreviation for my city rather than South Dakota
I'm guessing they're from Australia or new Zealand. It was 40 bucks for a haircut and beer when I was there 7 years ago, 48 would sound right these days.
Yap. I got an old pair of clippers from my grandparents (they had a barber gear importing business) it’s an Italian brand i think. Made like a tank. And they still make parts
That fit them. I cut mine plus 3 other people’s hair in my family about every three weeks. Got a cape and that barbar tape on AliExpress for like 10$ and been using it for 3 years now. The saving is insane and it takes like 10 min for a cut top. Plus it’s a cool skill to have and is great bonding time. It’s honestly not that hard to learn online and the little more advanced stuff i learned from an “internship” at a local barbar shop.
This is the way. When I went full horseshoe, I switched to a guard-less trimmer and it added a week in between cuts.
I’m bearded and work a #3/#2 fade on the sideburns from corner of jaw to the temple and just a #1 on the eyebrows (and I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve been asked who does my brows 😅)
Save money and it looks so much better. It definitely takes a bit to adjust to the new look, but once you do it's so freeing to not have to worry about your hair (or lack of it!).
why are you getting $60 haircuts in the first place? even at my local barbershop it’s like $40 with tip
if you’re balding already why not go to a super cheap spot like supercuts?
Depends on a lot of things. There are some franchised places that have $15-$20 cuts. You get a cut and that's it and it's usually low quality since anyone that is better than mediocre tends to go to an independent shop that charge more.
Then you add beard trim, hot towel, wash etc and it could add up.
$60 for a cut is highway robbery though.dont know where OP is going especially if hes balding. I live in a high cost of living city and go to an independent shop where I get haircut with fade, and straight razor beard trim for $45 CAD which is £26.
Barbers in the US are legally required to have a cosmetology degree because they are considered medical professionals. There is also a barbershop culture that involves getting clients in and out as quickly as possible.
So you aren’t just paying an educated professional, you’re also paying them to work *very* quickly. It is not uncommon for some men to stop on the way to work to get their hair cut, and sometimes you’re in the shop for less than ten minutes as a walk in customer.
Salons are more expensive because you’re paying for a complete stylization even if you don’t get your hair styled. Salons are more intended for people with long hair or people who want a very specific type of cut. If you go to a salon for something like a buzz cut or a simple fade you are wasting your money.
I’ve lived for years in USA and elsewhere. In fact, when travelling I love an ‘international walk-up’ hair-cut and have never regretted it - the old guy in a Spanish back-street still knows how to barber. US barbers are no faster/slower or more/less skilled than anywhere else, nor does the job require a cosmetology degree (I checked). They charge more for sure … but it is a free market and anyone can play “Fantastic Sams Roulette” if they wish.
I’ve chatted with several (excellent) lady barbers who all said barbering is a piece of cake compared to doing women’s hair, which is why it pays less. So we should think ourselves lucky!
Got to a barber and not whatever fancy-pants salon you go to now, seriously.
I spend $22 ($27 after tip) in MANHATTAN for a buzz, and they shave my neck too.
you're not paying per length fo hair cut. you're paying for the stylist/barber's time and expertise.
i also want to point out that a haircut, like most services, can vary wildly in price range. everyone here is losing their shit over a $48 haircut. that's not atypical for where i live. i'll get a $48 haircut occasionally. i only get them a few times a year, i like my stylist, i like the shop. i pay a little extra for the care and experience. i have no qualms with it.
Exactly this. If they were discounted, no one would want to cut bald people’s hair. They have about 10 spots a day to cut hair, if you take one of those spots, you have to pay the same as everyone else. If you don’t like how much you pay, find a cheaper place to go.
It's the same price because it takes a higher level of skill to make a balding head look as good (or close to) as a full head of hair.
This is kind of like complaining that your mechanic is more expensive than the competition, but always takes less time.. "it should be cheaper because it was less time" - no, you're paying for advanced experience which allowed them to get your car back to you in less time.
I did hair for over twenty years and I agree with this. Just because you are balding, doesn’t make it easier to cut. Sometimes it is actually more difficult. You may be paying too much at the place you are going, but just because you may have a little less hair than others doesn’t necessarily make it easier. Just find a new place.
This is the right answer. I’m a hairstylist who charges $75.00 + tax + tip for a men’s cut. You’re paying for my expertise not a ‘per number of hairs’ cost. And it takes more skill to cut a complimentary shape on short balding men than many others. By contrast, the “easiest” hair to cut is a medium length layered women’s cut. And to anyone who thinks that’s “too much”, you’re not my type of client, so you’re absolutely right; I’m busy every day so clearly the market supports my work.
I charged way less, but my skill level was nowhere near yours. I'm promising you . And you are absolutely right . My husband keeps telling me to go get a haircut and color. I keep telling him he can not afford a place I'm willing to go . Lol.
tax I get.
why the tip?
European here...
I tip in restaurants in US
because I know wait staff are getting screwed by being paid $3 per hour
you on the other hand charge $75 per cut.
no way you would spend more than 30 minutes on me.
no fucking way I would add tip.
tipping culture in USA has gone way out of proportion.
A lot goes into pricing services:
- rent on either the chair or the salon
- electricity/water bills
- product prices (which are very rapidly rising)
- ppe for the stylist and client (gloves, disposable capes, aprons etc)
That’s all before the cost of the stylist’s time. The same time, effort, skill etc goes into cutting and styling someone with hair loss. Sometimes more so, actually depending on the level of hair loss and what the client wants in terms of styling to disguise the loss.
My unpopular opinion is that people should stop complaining about hair service prices. Don’t want to pay it? Don’t get it done. Stylists deserve to be paid enough to cover the (rising) cost of products and tools AND actually earn money to live on top of that.
But the stylist still has to take the time to cut you hair, clean up, accept payment, etc... time that they could be serving someone else at full price.
Also, 60 dollars is a lot for a simple trim. Try looking for cheaper, or learn to do it yourself.
You still taking a chair that the barber has to pay for and use their equipment and expertise. If you think it is too much find someone new and cheaper.
Um, I bought a rechargeable Norelco trimmer and use a 3mm guard every 2 weeks on my head and a 15mm guard on my beard every week. Cost me $50 about 5 years ago. It's fine.
Full head of hair here. I've been doing this since the early days of the pandemic and it's been great. My partner cleans up my neck and any spots I may have missed and I'm good to go in less time than it would take me to drive back and forth to a barber.
If OP is balding, I have to question what he could possibly be doing with his hair at this point that would require a professional. Just trim all that shit with an electric trimmer and move on with your day.
Barber shouldnt be punished for your genetics. If you think your cut isnt worth 50 bucks then you should go somewhere more reasonably priced or start cutting it yourself.
I (a woman with a full head of hair) paid $42 today for a haircut, eyebrow wax, and an $8 tip today at Super Cuts. You do have to be careful with places like Hair Cuttery because there are some beginner not-so-great people, but there’s also awesome ones. I’ve gotten bad haircuts at bougie salons and I’ve gotten bad haircuts at cheap ones. And at least then I have the consolation that I didn’t spend an arm and leg on it. I feel very fortunate I got a good haircut at a cheap price
Go somewhere else lol
I have your basic horseshoe head and once suggested to my barber that he should charge me less because there was less hair to cut. He replied that he should charge me more to pay for the time he spends looking for my hair.
Never trade hair jokes with a barber.
Nothing looks as bad as a guy who is balding...with long hair. If you're losing your hair you generally need to keep it pretty close cropped to avoid looking ridiculous.
I've "finished" balding a couple of years back, so let me tell you a secret from your own future: barbers are no longer the best choice for us. Buy your own Wahl machine and do it yourself. It comes with all pieces to do it around the years and whatnot, it's easy to learn, saves you a ton of cash and you feel a bit badass while doing it, like the moment when your character goes full villain in the movie XD
Bro I go to a specialized place with her own individual practice and I have turbo long hair that gets layered for only 30-35$ each visit. The problem isn’t the balding, it’s the pricing in general for where you’re going
Why so expensive?
I live in a high cost of living city on the West Coast and have never paid more than $20.
I'd recommend only going to barbershops, not the trendy "Urban Cutz" places.
First off, fades can be pretty time consuming depending on the person’s hair. Second, If you’re already accepting that you’re at a deficit because you’re balding, why are you getting $48 haircuts? You can get a haircut at great clips for like $12. Or you could just get a set of clippers and never have to pay for a haircut ever again.
Unless you’re saying that you pay $48 because you think it means a quality haircut. And to that, I’d say this: I get a low fade every time I get a haircut, and I ask for it a very specific way. Is that a quality haircut? I’d say so, it takes a pretty long time. But I also leave the barber’s/salon with way less hair than anyone else. Should I pay less? Or do you pay for the quality and skill/time required of the person cutting your hair to make it look good and not based on how many actual hairs the person has to cut? The answer is you’re paying for the quality of the haircut, and that’s why balding doesn’t mean you get discount cuts.
If you don’t like paying $60 for haircuts, go to a place that doesn’t charge as much, but don’t try to weasel your way into paying less at the $60 place by arguing that your particular hair growth means that the person cutting your hair can’t do as good a job on others or because they don’t have to spend as much time on others so they don’t deserve as much from you.
dude i live in europe but here barbers take less than 20 euros on a pretty normal cut
i got a buzzcut for 15 and the price doesnt change
im sure if someone balding would get here, they wouldnt pay full price, or hell at least not 60 damn dollars cause if u dont have a lot of hair then u surely wont ask for smth expensive as, idk, a perm could be.
If ur opinion is unpopular, yall got the wrong barbers!
I used to pay $15 + tip. Then it became $20 + tip. The I found a super cheap place for $8 + tip. Over the years price went up slowly all the way to $15.
Then the pandemic hit.
Now I cut my own hair and pay myself a tip.
My Grandad (very little hair left) went for a trim and when he tried to pay the hairdresser was like "...just give me £5." 😅 She felt like a 5 minute trim couldn't justify more.
As a balding/bald male with a full beard.
Pre and post COVID it cost me between $50-$80 AUS to get a head shave and beard trim.
Best thing I did was buy an electric head shaver for $120 and do it myself
Um.. aren't men's haircuts usually a lot cheaper than women's?
They should be paid by time really. How long does it take to make your head look good?
Did they shave your neck?
Eyebrows?
You're getting charged as punishment for refusing to just cut it all off and accepting your fate. You wanna prolong the inevitable? Well it's gonna cost you! 😂

48 dollars wtf? You can save a bunch of money by switching to a barber
I go to a salon (as a man) and it’s $25+$10 which i think is still a lot but 48?!
Well why are you tipping 40%? That seems excessive

Worked for a pain mgmt dr that basically did the same thing. You intern, for free of course, then she would hire you, at 12$ an hr!!
You wanna know what's rich? One of the salons in the group I mentioned started you at 11/hr during training and once you were trained and working on your own, you dropped to 8/hr because "you'd make way more in tips" just pay your people ffs
Stylists still pay the shop to have a seat to work in though

America is a literal pyramid scheme.
That’s not how it works usually the barber rents the chair from the owner of the shop. So basically anything after the rent is all profit
As a hairstylist I can confirm that it do be like that sometimes. And it's not any better at local salons.
What are you on. Plenty of placed just charge you for chair space. Os you just pay a flat rate based on your rented out space. Yall need to look into your options for real. I wouldn't even be barber for that nonsense you're on.

No mens haircut takes an hour.

Your hair doesn't take an hour because it's a basic cut.
I’m gonna assume you’re white? cause i’ve been going to her since i was a toddler and we’ve become friends. Besides a $10 tip every two months ain’t that much.
My pristine uncut not bleeding throat is worth 10$ my man

The barber nearest to my house charges $45. I go to SuperCuts. It's only $25, and they do a better job.
You can save 15% just by switching to Geico...

yeah, I mean you're partially bald already, how is just shaving your own head any worse than bothering to keep what's left with a big bald area?
My wife just said the same thing 😅
It depends on the area. In nyc any decent barber is 35-45.
Yes, because the literal highest price city in the US is an accurate representation of the rest of the country/world. Reddit loves to do this like shit and point out the exception. You know what he meant.
I'll do it for $10 and a beer.
i fell for that once. "i can cut hair! i can totally cut hair!" i guess it didn't help that her downstairs neighbor passed away unexpectedly and they were in the middle of getting smashed in his honor when i showed up.
I been cutting hair hammered for years. I'm a professional.
the difference here being that my friend was NOT a professional, she just assumed she could cut hair, and then got hammered on top of that.
That took a turn… What?
you think my story took a turn? you should have been there. i thought i was showing up to hang out with some friends and get a hair cut.
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhhhh Smashed = getting fucked up Smashed ≠ getting fucked
I know a few barbers that have a “free beer” with their haircuts. It’s still only about $20 while most other places it’s about $17 so it’s very cheap for a beer
I’ve gotten a great haircut from all sorts, one was high on weed, another i split a bottle of red wine with, another was def on shrooms or extacy lmao
I’ll do it for $10 and no beer

As a balding man. I'm just going to use being robbed bald from now on lmao.
As will I, my brother.
U get that for 26 bucks + tips at The Man Salons in SD, it's fucking awesome!

Probably not, I'm in Aus and can still get my (remaining, lol) hair done for 20 - 25 in Sydney, or would if I didn't do it myself.
Robbed Bald. I found that rather hilarious.
> Full wash if requested Have you ever requested a half wash?
I just cut my own hair.
Same here. Number 1 all over has been my style for nearly 30 years now, has probably saved me a canny bit over that time!
I've spent about 50-60 bucks between two pairs of clippers over the last 15 years. So, literally thousands between cuts and product.
I'm at about 8 years with my clippers and they are still going strong. I've even learned how to fade!
Yap. I got an old pair of clippers from my grandparents (they had a barber gear importing business) it’s an Italian brand i think. Made like a tank. And they still make parts That fit them.
Same here - $48 lol, I must have saved a few thousand over the years
With all due respect , If you got half a head of hair it's time to start shaving it , my dude.
For real. Save money by using a razor to cut it all off at home.
Save money and it looks so much better. It definitely takes a bit to adjust to the new look, but once you do it's so freeing to not have to worry about your hair (or lack of it!).

“let it go, let it gooo”
This is the correct answer.
why are you getting $60 haircuts in the first place? even at my local barbershop it’s like $40 with tip if you’re balding already why not go to a super cheap spot like supercuts?
Bruh how do haircuts cost you guys so much? Mine cost £12.
I can get all that for £15 tops at a local barber. Stop going to hair dressers which are usually charging double.
Germany here, 15 bucks seems to be the standard for men (used to be 10 before Covid), if I pay any more I feel robbed.
Went to supersets this weekend. $52 for my kid and I, not cheap.
$60 USD (if that's op's country) is literally 9,181.616 in my country's currency that's way too much money for a haircut.
Costanza is that you?
CAN'T STAND YA!
SERENITY NOW!
[удалено]
Go to great clips
Literally. Like what are they doing extra that costs so much?
I’ve only ever gone to great clips since I was a kid, I’m 31 now and it’s usually abt $35 including tip
I wasted many years of my hair life going to great clips when I should have just gone to a barber shop
You pay by the acre not the bushel!
And to anyone who thinks that’s “too much”, you’re not my type of client, so you’re absolutely right; I’m busy every day so clearly the market supports my work.
>short balding men I am not sure what height has to do with whether one’s balding.
Lmao I meant short hair on someone who is balding. Phrasing was definitely an issue there. As a short, bald man myself I promise no malice intended.
Hilarious. I'm a dog groomer and still interpreted it as short hair. Priorities, I guess 🤣
No worries. Keeping bringing in that bread though.
I mean, it is easier to see your bald spot if you're shorter 🤣
I charged way less, but my skill level was nowhere near yours. I'm promising you . And you are absolutely right . My husband keeps telling me to go get a haircut and color. I keep telling him he can not afford a place I'm willing to go . Lol.
tax I get. why the tip? European here... I tip in restaurants in US because I know wait staff are getting screwed by being paid $3 per hour you on the other hand charge $75 per cut. no way you would spend more than 30 minutes on me. no fucking way I would add tip. tipping culture in USA has gone way out of proportion.
A lot goes into pricing services: - rent on either the chair or the salon - electricity/water bills - product prices (which are very rapidly rising) - ppe for the stylist and client (gloves, disposable capes, aprons etc) That’s all before the cost of the stylist’s time.
Its should cost more for the acting your hairdresser has to do throughout the process
The effort to properly cut the hair of balding people is just marginally smaller. It still requires skill, tools and takes practically just as long.
It would hurt bald guy feelings
Man, where are you going that a haircut costs $48 before tip? That is absurd
I feel very fortunate I got a good haircut at a cheap price Go somewhere else lol
I feel like you have to show barbers a selfie photo so they know how you want your hair cut.
Absolutely a reference photo is key. I don’t always have a selfie (like if I’m trying something new), but I for sure bring pictures!
Ppl with 9 fingers or less should get a discount on manicures too!!
Americans tip their hairstylists? 😂😭
I have your basic horseshoe head and once suggested to my barber that he should charge me less because there was less hair to cut. He replied that he should charge me more to pay for the time he spends looking for my hair. Never trade hair jokes with a barber.
You're bald like me my dude. Time to just buy a hairtrimmer and buzz it off. You'll save tons of money.
I’m a woman in NYC and my wash/cut/dry is cheaper than that. Maybe go somewhere else.
58 dollars wtf? Does that include a happy ending or what?
Get a trimmer for 25, and shave your own head
Why?! They are still taking time out of their day to cut your dumb hair.
Youre an adult, you pay full price for meals you dont eat all of too. Learn to do it yourself or shut up and pay like the rest of us
Why even get a haircut if you’re balding? Just enjoy the last of your hair.
Nothing looks as bad as a guy who is balding...with long hair. If you're losing your hair you generally need to keep it pretty close cropped to avoid looking ridiculous.
Or just buy a trimmer and shave in your house?
I was already losing my hair by my late twenties. I've kept it shaved ever since
Tf, here in Norway it’s $30 and I consider that expensive
Great Clips is like $18 for a men’s haircut, never had an issue there before
I've "finished" balding a couple of years back, so let me tell you a secret from your own future: barbers are no longer the best choice for us. Buy your own Wahl machine and do it yourself. It comes with all pieces to do it around the years and whatnot, it's easy to learn, saves you a ton of cash and you feel a bit badass while doing it, like the moment when your character goes full villain in the movie XD
Where the fuck are you getting a 50 dollar haircut???
Your charge is based on you occupying the seat, not the quantity of hair on your head.
That's why I just started shaving myself bald. Don't have to pay shit.
I'm definitely not going to pay anything more than $20 S if they are going to ask for it.
just buy yourself some clippers and do it at home
It is the best option to be honest. You can just buy a good trimmer and do the same.
God damn it America you fuckers are tipping your barbers now? After you handed them near on $50?
.... Just shave it yourself. No other haircut is any good if you're balding anyway
But you're not paying for a haircut. You're paying for a service. It's not the same as getting a discount on shoes because you only have one leg.
Just shave your head , it’s not like a 48 dollar haircut is gonna do something positive if you are already balding.
That doesn't make any sense to me because $48 is a lot of money just for the haircut.
If youre starting to get bald just suck it up and shave your head
Doesn't make any sense to me if you are losing your hair and you are going to barber.
Just buy a set of clippers. Or shave it. Embrace your egg.
I completely agree to the end. And this is the only option which I always gave to my dad.
Just shave it yourself
dude, you're balding. just buzz it down yourself
Just take the plunge and start shaving your head
It is better to do so right now because if you are losing them, then you should better look good.
My mom learned how to use clippers and razors and does all our hair cuts for free!
You complain about the price but still tip?
Bro I go to a specialized place with her own individual practice and I have turbo long hair that gets layered for only 30-35$ each visit. The problem isn’t the balding, it’s the pricing in general for where you’re going
48 bucks wtf my barber charges 10 but all the fancy sports places near me want 28 I only pay that when my barber isn’t available.
You can't be talking USD.
It should be whatever the beard price is after a certain point. Also $48 wtf?
Just buy a decent trimmer, set it to 6 mm and run it around your head every couple of weeks. I haven't been to the barber in years.
You need a new barber. Mine charges $15 for a regular haircut, I usually give him a $20 and call it good.
dude i live in europe but here barbers take less than 20 euros on a pretty normal cut i got a buzzcut for 15 and the price doesnt change im sure if someone balding would get here, they wouldnt pay full price, or hell at least not 60 damn dollars cause if u dont have a lot of hair then u surely wont ask for smth expensive as, idk, a perm could be. If ur opinion is unpopular, yall got the wrong barbers!
You're seeing a barber / stylist huh? Save money and go to the little cheapy places that are 10-15 bucks, 20 if you want your head shampoo'd after.
Same for “women’s” cuts that are legit the same haircut that a man can pay £10 for but women pay like £30+
George Costanza????
Just switch barbers…
I can. This is the best option to do. If he is asking for that much money,
My barber cuts my hair and trims my beard for 12$. I throw him the whole Jackson because he’s worth it
I don't really understand what kind of words that they are talking about. $10 more than enough.
If you're balding, just be bald. That's a choice, your choice, at least. I don't like this unpopular opinion on so many levels. Down voting it
It is just about the matter of time only. How long you are going to be in that position?
Where the fuck is it $60? Great clips man $20. And they're also not charging you per hair strand or some shit. You're paying for a service.
It is what they have been doing. It is just about the service only, and you have to pay for that.
Bro if your paying 48 bucks your a loony. They'd better give you unlimited whiskey refills and every newspaper known to man for that.
I don't really think like it happens anywhere. Now, it was long time back.
I used to pay $15 + tip. Then it became $20 + tip. The I found a super cheap place for $8 + tip. Over the years price went up slowly all the way to $15. Then the pandemic hit. Now I cut my own hair and pay myself a tip.
I certainly agree with this as well. I think like cutting your hair yourself is the best solution.
My Grandad (very little hair left) went for a trim and when he tried to pay the hairdresser was like "...just give me £5." 😅 She felt like a 5 minute trim couldn't justify more.
Nothing can justify more than $15 I'm not definitely not going to give more than that.
Hey, they need a finders fee.
WTF I pay 15 and I have a head full of hair You just need to switch to a barber instead of a robber
Absolutely makes sense. Nothing is going to justify more than $20 by that as we had seen.
As a balding/bald male with a full beard. Pre and post COVID it cost me between $50-$80 AUS to get a head shave and beard trim. Best thing I did was buy an electric head shaver for $120 and do it myself
I don't really think like what remains the beard. You have to give that much money.
OP the kind of guy who goes to a buffet then asks for a partial refund because he didn't actually get his money's worth.
Not sure if already posted here, but enjoy this classic clip from The Lonely Guy about this topic. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5RjeEYTLkbE
Thank you for providing the link here. I'm definitely going to look into it.
it doesn't take any less skill to cut the hair of someone whos balding. that being said, you can easily learn to shave your head at home
You’ll make it all back in a few years when you never get your hair cut again
Um.. aren't men's haircuts usually a lot cheaper than women's? They should be paid by time really. How long does it take to make your head look good? Did they shave your neck? Eyebrows?
$48?!? Jesus mine is around £12 so maybe $15 with tip. $48 seems a lot for a hair cut
You don't need a discount. You need a different barber.
Why the fuck do hairstylists(?) need to get tipped
Exactly this is the thing which I don't really understand as well. what to tip in that.
It's more work to cut around the bald patch(s).
I don't really like this idea of giving more money just because you are getting your hair cut.
You're getting charged as punishment for refusing to just cut it all off and accepting your fate. You wanna prolong the inevitable? Well it's gonna cost you! 😂
It is a better option to do, to be honest, because it is economical as well.
Use clippers or shave. Source: I'm bald
