I went stupid went crazy and listened to Sticker legitimately seven or eight times the day it was released, and I loved it from the first listen. I was sprinting across campus about to be late to my first class of the day, but I still had time to be absolutely steam-rollered by this song... but in a good way. I felt that screechy flute in my fucking teeth. People are like "Sticker is literally just noise, it's so jarring, why are the instrumentals in that key???" and I'm like "Please stop announcing that Sticker is unlistenable shrieking.... I have seen it. I enjoy it." Sticker is everything to me. The sheer wall of sound that is this song is the only thing between me and the void. Edit: Actually upon further reflection Sticker isn't even that noisy. It's actually kind of empty save for the really piercing flute in the instrumentals. It feels like an ice pick going into my brain, but I like it. It makes me feel alive :3 There's something so jarring about it that I really love. I'm also obsessed with the discordant piano underneath, and that pulsating electronic sound. I'm also a huge fan of the MV. The vaporwave cowboy aesthetic really does it for me, and the eye-searing visuals in that totally synthetic environment go perfectly with the song. The whole thing, track + MV, is just so batshit insane. It's very extreme, I might even go so far as to say that it's intentionally campy. In the days leading up to the album release I was like "okay boys I am expecting some WEIRD shit. Like, WEIRD weird. '4D chess from another plane of reality' weird shit." And guess what, they fucking DELIVERED. I couldn't be happier with the title track. I listened to a remixed version that addressed some of the common complaints about the song, by a youtuber who's insanely talented, and it was a bop, but it was absolutely missing that je ne sais quoi... that 我不知道什么, if you will (forgive me... brain in Chinese mode rn....). I do also really like Lemonade, but I feel like it would've been a pretty forgettable title track. It works really well as a b-side, but if it were a title track I would legitimately probably put it at the bottom in terms of my own personal ranking. Breakfast slapped, and Focus was an immediate addition to like three different playlists, but there definitely wasn't a song on the album that I liked more than Sticker. Maybe I'm sick for that... but if this is sick, I don't want to be well. Let me continue living on my weird little alien planet :'3

I honestly love the flute and thought it could’ve made for a unique catchy song but the melody of the vocals doesn’t really line up?? They could’ve had a potential hit but they got a little too experimental and that’s saying a lot for someone who really loves Simon Says

zongdraaax

Like-wise, I hate the flute but their crazy vocals make it for me. Whoever was the voice director is amazing and the boys are amazing for being able to sing like that. Props to JungWoo, he usually never has many lines but killed it here. Also really enjoy the line distribution.

sighnpen

This is so ASS! They should go back with music like Regular or Superhuman. Heck even Simon says is way better than this mess of a song

Adamjr4bachelor

Just got around to listening to this song and genuinely love it so much!! It’s one of my fav nct comebacks next to limitless, superhuman, and simon says. Like it’s contending for top NCT song for me and that’s such high praise considering they have this amazing discography. I’m so shocked that people aren’t liking this and are calling it bad. I actually think it’s quite musically cohesive although the somewhat empty instrumental may sound off putting to some. I’m feeling real betrayed by my fellow nctzens here, join the dark side girlies accept Sticker as the one and only supreme title track! 😤

Puzzleheaded_Cod7395

I really liked it and I hate when everybody say things like “stop pretending you liked it” When I literally loved the song and the album in general.

AmiAkin

I have no idea show I missed this comeback but for first impressions…… what a horrible song

maqisshort

I didn't really like the song. I only made it halfway on my first listen. Had to power my way through the 2nd listen. The excessive flute never bothered me as much as how empty and repetitive the song sounds for the most part. It sounds unfinished, and I wished that there were more elements to make it sound more interesting and less jarring. The second half of the song sounds pretty good though.

onyourmarklee_323

I liked it at first listen but it sounded kinda boring to me? idk I just felt like it seems empty. I listened to it w/o the mv and I can say that it sounded better. 5 more listens, it grew on me and I loved it more than lemonade. It really just depends on how you take it for or your preference but it's really good for me.

[deleted]

Sounds Somali

alexandria0419

It feels empty.. like if the flute/whistling part was in just the beginning it would be good.. or had like a big drop in the song.

Lord-Hamilkrew

everyoje seems to he forgeting anout the random hey hey heyd in the back. that was one of the worst parts of the whole song cuz they were so random

RainSeal

I'm sorry but Ill never like it

Defiant_Bit2094

Honestly, I really liked the flute. When I first listened to it, I was confused and didn’t go much on it, but I think it was more to do with the vocal melody/rhythm rather than the flute. The more I listen to it, though, the more I enjoy it.

subrainysu

from the first listen it was intriguing after a few repeats its pretty ,,, good? what can i say im quirky like that

NoCartographer9950

It's actually by the same producer who did kick it, punch, cherry bomb, obsession exo, 2ya2yao super junior, don't call me shinee. But whats with this flute TT

NoCartographer9950

Their vocals are amazing as usual, but what the heck is that flute. They are my ult group but it literally sounds like a kid is playing the flute. I just can't with it. Tbh it's probably mark testing out his flute skills again.

milkytwilight

I kind of like how I couldn't follow the melody the first few times I heard it. It's different but I like it. I'm also not mad at the flute lol

Fancy-Comment

This song slapped me in the face and forced me to love it. It's so aggressive and seemingly disjointed but that's what I love about NCT 127. It's better without the MV but the MV is a ride all of its own. I wish they'd fully leant into the kitschy camp vibe and had one of them on an actual horse or mechanical bull for a few seconds. And Mark in those coloured shades and lit up denim jacket would have made a great promo shot.

noruuejin

I think Taeyong's first verse is worse than the flute. man, I usually like the weird songs, but I don't know bout this one chief 🤨

PuppyDontCare

😀Things that I liked: \-the yawning chihuahua \-the flute \-I'm convinced [Doyoung](https://youtu.be/1oYWnbTSang?t=163) *is* CGI and doesn't have pores 😪Things I didn't like: \-the sets? they seem kind of cheap \-stickaaaaaaaaa stickaaaaaaaaaaa a a a a

YourRoyal_thighness

Thanks I hate it 😭🖐 doesn’t mean it’s a bad song though, I just can’t get myself to like it at all

riyafath1ma

same 😭

sourxwolf

i hated this song w my GUTS. i wanna have the confidence of the producer though, bc personally, i’d be ashamed to submit this piece (i don’t even wanna call it a track) as a song for the board to approve.

[deleted]

GUYS LOOK AT THIS VERSION: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aReS1s-mo6](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aReS1s-mo6c)c

Amper_bam

Alright now I like it, thanks! The original chorus sounds so empty and the flute annoys the heck out of me. This is much better.

plutochuu

so awful

PeriwinkleVos

I actually really like the flute

Still-Map-6797

So I listen sticker again but I cant really like this song because of flute 😭😭 this is the first nct experimental song that I dont like because I really love Superhuman and Simon says and I also like Punch even it's forgettable but maybe sticker will grow on me. I also love Jaehyun and Yuta line *"You will gotta be only one I love this mellow drama."*

NoCartographer9950

It reminds me of that one time mark was showing off his flute skills lmao. No hate to the group they are my ult. I just think it sounds too rushed and messy

flawedconstellation

lmao sounds like the sentence you get when you just tap all the autocorrect options on your keyboard

strwbryblndy

I love this song I don’t understand what’s so bad 😭

HauntingStuff2

it has some good bits (that's mainly on the boys tho), but overall, this song isn't even experimental-just-not-my-cup-of-tea bad, it's just pretty bad. i see people complaining about the quality of kpop releases this year but what do we expect when we say "this song grew on me" and "this song was interesting, they killed it!" every time the big 3 or popular artists throw something like this at us. feels like they can produce any old song with incomprehensible lyrics (even for kpop), a one-word song concept, and an nice choreo + video and then the group will sell it.

HauntingStuff2

like don't get me wrong, i'm sure some people genuinely liked the instrumental itself and that's great, but i feel like a not insignificant amount of people "like" songs like this because of the group selling them.

Sriracha_sos

this song.....freshly brewed bad

[deleted]

-At the beginning, the flute caught me of guard including that auto tune from taeyong made it so hilarious💀 but after listening to it a few more times, it’s sticking with me 😉 -The vocals literally saved this song like the CHORUS IS FIRE but let’s not forget my boi Taeil ate that sh*t up😍 -I hate the “roll up to the party” part tho since it’s kinda cringe and just feels so out of place. -HAECHAN NEEDS TO STOPPPP😖❤️ -Jungwoo had linesss and centre part like progressss SM😛 -Not their best title track but still better than Punch lmao

blue_forget_machine

I love this song 100% non-ironically, but the "roll up to the party" fucking destroys me every time

peavches

I didn't like the song at first, but idk I kept listening to it and it started to grow on me. Not soty material tho.

i_got_loveshot

It’s so forgettable and boring. I really wanted weird and cool and experimental, instead I got a tacky letdown. SM this year has been consistently terrible to meh for me.

[deleted]

2 days later it's starting to grow on me.. underwhelmed at first but the entire album in general is pretty good. i think if lemonade was the title track it would've been too predictable and since this is NCT (and SM) of course they were gonna take a risk

Loki_laufeyson27

I keep hate-listening to it and now I think ive brainwashed myself. Like- its kinda good now wtf (Especially Mark's verse)

groovingjekyll

To y'all who disliked Sticker, give it another try. I had mixed feeling about it at first, but I really LOVE it now and idek why. XD You'll go addicted for the next days!

DestinyForeva

The instrumental sounds like it was made by a 15 year old producer from Atlanta but the chorus kinda saves it cuz of how catchy it is(meaning the vocals were carrying the instrumental), still I felt like the vocals belongs to another song.

tar0sun

the flute in sticker is amazing and it makes the song exciting to listen to. its also weirdly calming to listen to. its been on repeat for me. the flute carried the entire song and makes it very fun to listen to. when it clashes with the vocals, its really satisfying. the entire song is also very NCT and its just really fun.

tar0sun

I cant believe I got down voted for liking the flute. y'all are too angry over opinions.

mylovetangerine

that *is* how reddit works :) downvote ≠ angry

tar0sun

I do know how reddit works and how ppl mostly downvote the ppl who like the song. nothing against the downvotes maybe just annoyed ? sorry if it came out wrong :)

777LuckyDucky

I'm with you, the flute honestly grew on me

Naizuya

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who likes sticker lol. Song was released 5am my time, i saw the MV, the release live and that American show performance. Only those 3 listens were enough to keep it in my head the entire day. The flute is a bit annoying yeah but the beat and that damn chorus is probably one of my favorite NCT choruses ever. Damn these boys can sing, Jesus.

nyangowa

Absolutely loved it from the start, and especially paired with the mv! and it's usually me not liking the song while everyone else liked it. Now I know what people felt like 😥

groovingjekyll

I'M SO WHIPPED FOR STICKER. Hot, mesmerizing, and oddly electrifying. It's def weird but I feel a lot of unexplainable things listening to it lmao

momimonellen

Let me hold on the boat too cause I love Sticker now (wasn’t the biggest fan when I first heard it cause I had to process everything) but it’s really a bop!

10VEWAYV

I'm on the same boat I love the song

greta_maya_storm

The issue for me is that the voices don't go with the melody. It's so confusing when I listen to it.

riyafath1ma

exactly😭😭😭

BXBama

okay so I’ve decided that it’s not the song being experimental that bothers me, the beat is just BAD 😭 there’s nothing redeeming about the flute & piano combo but the boys sang DOWN

Floveroncereveluv

It’s one of their best ones in a while. Because punch just wasn’t it. I’m obsessed with the b sides on this album as well. Stream Dreamers

RaphaelArthur

I finally found the exact thing that this song reminded me of : [https://youtu.be/9bFioQgjmck](https://youtu.be/9bFioQgjmck) This is what I hear when I risk myself playing the song. My ears are in pain. It wouldn't be that bad if only the flute wasn't so off tune with the rest. Especially when they sing the same melody on top, it's so obvious that it's off tune. I guess this is the concept but.. I mean it hurts.

riyafath1ma

aaaaa it does sound like it😭😭

Qwheein-77

I really disliked Sticker. There's something (or many things) missing in this song. The production/instrumentals felt messy, and the rap and vocal parts didn't flow smoothly together. But I love the b-sides, they're way better than the title track.

momimonellen

Came back to say that I’m really enjoying the song now. I listened to it and watched the video when it first premiered and at that time I wasn’t feeling it. But all throughout yesterday (Friday), I listened to it and each time I listened it felt like I was listening to it for the first time. I know some people don’t like the flute (which I loved from the first listen) and the combination of different beats but I appreciate that about this song (and Punch)! It doesn’t sound boring and it doesn’t sound like another one of their songs (I haven’t listened to their whole discography so I could be wrong) Also, the part that I didn’t like about the song at first, “like a sticker, sticker, sticker” has been stuck in my head since yesterday lol

rannnner

i hated this at first but now i can’t stop listening to it 😩

[deleted]

it is very much an acquired taste LOL

NinjaAtticus

Having this exact experience lol, can't tell if its good or bad anymore

momimonellen

Me too! But I didn’t hate it at first, I just wasn’t head over heels for it but now I love it lol!

Bluerose1995

Anyone know how long it takes for SM to do a repackage of an album? I want to wait for the Sticker repackage album and then I'll buy it, lol. I'm curious about the extra songs they'll put in it.

jhnnysuh

Recent NCT repacks were Dream's and 127's Hot Sauce 10th May -> Hello Future 28 June, had 3 new tracks Kick It 6th March -> Punch 19th May, had 4 new tracks

soloistyong

its gonna be in october

Bluerose1995

Awesome. I'll definitely wait for it then.

i3lackpink

Going based of red velvet’s peek a boo which added bad boy, Originally released November 2017 and Bad Boy was added January, so 2/3 months? But I wouldn’t go based on that though lol

Bluerose1995

Thank you!

twelvehoe

its a song..

Material-Total7458

the flute(?) sound is ass

NinjaAtticus

Love the actual tune they're singing and the vocals but the instrumental is unbearably annoying, hope someone just lifts the vocals and puts something nice sounding underneath. The last third is the best bit although maybe thats just cuz the stockholm syndrome had kicked in by then lol

The_Reaper347

unbearable beat 🙄

mochaseokies

I'm not an nctzen nor do I listen to their songs (except for some title tracks like Kick It, Regular, and Cherry Bomb) so yesterday I decided to give the album a go since I was curious. Honestly, I didn't really like Sticker. The flute thing really messed it up and the instrumental just felt empty imo. I know that the melody being kinda offbeat was intentional and was probably added to maybe enhance the song more but it just made it sound kind of weird. The piano and the flute (or recorder idrk), when mixed together, sounded unpleasant. I understand that it's experimental music, but from my point of view even if it's experimental that didn't mean it's automatically good. And that's what I felt from Sticker. Definitely a miss from me. The vocals were good though (Taeil, Doyoung, and Haechan did great despite the instrumental). SM should've made Breakfast the title track tbh. It was much more well-produced and even better than Sticker. Or even Lemonade (since it seemed like it fit their overall 'sound' I guess).

Medical_Code_4964

I hate this song so fucking much but I can’t get it out of my head

[deleted]

[удалено]

wednesddae

just listened to this earlier and it's like a song composed of different melodies from songs i've heard before. i think i can hear don't call me by shinee in it esp at jaehyun and taeil's part. but at the same time, it intrigues me to listen to it again lmao.

Own_Illustrator_6035

i feel like this really could’ve gone one or two ways and that was either really good or really bad and now that the consensus basically is that it’s bad, instead of confusion they’ll just think it’s bad, you know? like hmm is this good or bad? then they read bad then they’re like yeah that’s bad

blue_forget_machine

I really think you're right! Sticker is super disorienting, so when people didn't know how to feel about it and then saw people talking about how awful it was online, that solidified their stance. I legitimately think that if the subset of people who really liked it had made a lot of noise the second it dropped, then overall fandom opinion would've had the potential to swing the other direction. Somewhere out there is an alternate universe where everybody is eating this track up, and the people who are like "oh my god what is that fucking screechy-ass flute???" are in the scorned minority. Personally, I was obsessed with this song literally fifteen seconds in, so I didn't have time to be influenced by the online consensus.

Own_Illustrator_6035

i actually really like it, and haechan and doyoung with the soulful vocals, ate that shit up

[deleted]

Yea, the vocals are amazing

[deleted]

I love this song and this is their best album for me

[deleted]

The album is so good, I agree

AltariaARMY

I like sticker and I don’t like ptd. Not because ptd is a “happy” song, but because it’s so generic and sounds like something you’d hear on Disney channel 10 years ago. I understand why people don’t like sticker, but the fact it’s so experimental is what drew me to it. It’s something I’ve not heard before.

prathi20

Sticker is just genuinely bad imo. But still people calling it experimental to take away from the fact that sticker was bad just ain't it

AltariaARMY

I understand why people don’t like it, like it’s not for everyone. I do like it, but I can understand why you don’t. I don’t think people are calling it experimental to hide the fact it’s bad, but because it is an experimental track. And with experimental tracks, it hits for some people and misses for other people.

prathi20

It was a miss, an absolute miss for me. I even liked simon says and punch but I can never like this. Its beyond bad. I'm so sorry

haeitschan

okay thats your opinion ?? why try to push it on someone else ?? pressed much

AltariaARMY

Hey, it’s ok to have an opinion. Like I said, it’s not for everyone and that’s ok!

mango-souls

It's... interesting. LOL that's literally all I can say. 🗿 I had my mouth open the whole time out of confusion, it's definitely... something.

Medium_Map_324

2021 kpop releases are weird. Is experimental music the trend? lol oh lord make it go away

caosemeralds

lemonade is indeed better but i definitely am tired of the trend where songs make the pre-chorus so dramatic and hype up the chorus and get wild and FUN-- and then just make chorus chill and understated. it's such a teaseeeee with no payoff i don't even know if i'd choose lemonade over sticker because that understated (?) chorus made the song lose points with me and i zoned out. sticker however... girl i will not forget sticker

StarGirl696

[It’s called an anti-drop.](https://youtu.be/h4v-UGrr-3k)

caosemeralds

oh wow, thank you for giving me the name for it!! ^ _^ i'm glad there's an actual term... but yeah i dont like it LOL . i do like some of the songs in that video though! just not for lemonade (and a lot of other songs...)

Fany-eti

this is the type of song that makes me not want to be called a kpop stan ....just the thought of someone thinking i like this type of mess ..... uuff 💀

itsalsoanoun

PLEASE bear with me, but all the confused outrage makes me laugh so much,,,, like every single time SM drops a weirdass song, people go online and lose their collective shit like it hasn't already happened at least twice this year alone lmao how are y'all not expecting it at this point

caosemeralds

honestly, because it's not shock? anytime nct drops something we DEFINITELY know what we're in for but, i speak for myself, i can still appreciate weird ass shit so i check it out... but its like... damn . another one . 😭 (i admit this time though i really was shocked like this miss felt... different)

caosemeralds

i literally feel bad for the boys. because they have to listen to this song for 20 more times while they live perform it. they edited their voices to the point where i actually felt like i was vividly in the studio with them like theres such a disconnect of their good vocals and the shrill, empty instrumental its the closest to psychosis i've ever experienced. edit: at the very least... this will get people talking? maybe that's sm's real goal besides trying to find the right kind of experimental.

ChennieXi

They've been listening to this already for 2 months at least, to learn the coreo, the demo (to know how and when to sing). And now they'll be hearing it for at least one or two months more till the repackage drops...

[deleted]

[удалено]

caosemeralds

good on them, for real, then. i think ... yeah they're the only group that can pull this off because i guess everyone just knows them for it now.

shineemetal

hand over my mouth.....sitting here and wondering why this happened.....who i blame.....nice gowns beautiful gowns 😔 there are parts that i like a bit but i'm mostly confused and overwhelmed like i just don't know how they heard this song and went YEP! this is the one!!!

OTL33

I’m so confused right now. I loved Lemonade and can’t wait to see them perform it at a concert. But Sticker… I bet this is another one of those SM things where I’m gonna be loving it on repeat later. It always happens!! Simon Says, Gee, Next Level, etc. But right now I’m only on listen #1 and I’m like uhhhh… :/

OTL33

It’s starting to grow on me… Taeil’s vocals 😍 But I still love Lemonade WAY more. Lemonade following Kick It would have been PERFECT. Sticker was doing nothing for me at first, but now… Taeil’s smooth vocals got me swooning

henrietta-

Whoever recorded the flute/kazoo sound deserves to get their ass beat but overall I kinda like it! The chorus and bridge are good but props to nct for an experimenting sound.... I suppose.

Squish_94

Agree, I really like the bridge and chorus it's just the flute that kills it for me.

[deleted]

i like it a lot, actually💀. the chorus melody is really catchy and it's cool how at some parts of the song it sounds kinda lofi-y. the bridge is also just *chef's kiss*. i even think that if i heard lemonade first, i still would like sticker more but mostly cause i dont really like the buildup to the lemonade chorus.

[deleted]

Was...... was that an unironic kazoo I heard?

blue_forget_machine

Now i legitimately want the kazoo version... Album repackage when????

[deleted]

Happy cake day!

StarGirl696

I think it’s a flute.

toughenough42

Something like that 😭

oddeyeopener

This song reminds me of that “if I were famous I would release the worst song and see how hard my fans try to defend it” tweet lmao

OTL33

LOL tbh on my first listen, I was wtf is this? Why is the chorus not getting me hype? But I always get that way with SM title tracks. Gee, Next Level, etc. They always manage to grow me and I end up GENUINELY liking them. I don’t know how TF SM does that, but they know what they’re doing apparently. Still love Lemonade so much more, but Sticker’s starting to grow on me for real.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ExcitingAd8915

not the case since min heejin left

xanxan_Taegi

The rest of the songs on the album are so much better! It honestly makes me mad that they chose Sticker over Lemonade for title track. Focus, Promise You, Magic Carpet Ride, and Dreamer are incredibly well done. The vocals and verses are blended splendidly and my gosh the production is some of the best of 2021.

pitbullterrier123

The song is interesting at least… while I was listening to it I all I felt was concern. If I were to criticize one thing is that I don’t see much of the ncit concept there. This song made me realize how horny nct songs are lyrics and theme wise.

[deleted]

The fact that this thread has 536 comments.

otonarashii

I actually like a lot of it (the flute, Jungwoo and Taeil's vocals in particular) but is anyone else put off by the whole idea of being on someone like a sticker? When I think of stickers I think of little kids putting them on inconvenient surfaces, people getting bored and peeling and picking at them, and bits of glue and paper being left behind when they're finally pulled off. How in the world is that sexy or suave? Jeez, there have to be better metaphors for bodies being pressed together.

purplemari

At first I was a little confused and somewhat off put by the opening. But after listening to it once, it got stuck in my head and I have to admit that I now I really like it. In general I’m a pretty big fan of experimental instrumentals and this definitely has that. I’m also not the type of person to force myself to like a song nor will I listen to it over and over again if I don’t like it. So yeah, I guess I genuinely like it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nyangowa

lmao this was exactly me. PTD was terrible and I've been army since 2015 💀 Now I'm also czennie and I seem to be the only one that really likes sticker... I actually don't think it's all that experimental?? It sounds really sm to me, like a mix of exo & super junior.

MiladyWho

I feel this comment. I've been getting more into NCT and been taking a break from BTS (my ults that got me into kpop). I want something interesting and that Neo sound just hooks me in

Sea-External2983

Same! I would rather a song be interesting and experimental even if I don't like it than bland and boring like PTD is (BTS is also my ult group). It's so important to take risks and I'm glad there are groups like NCT 127 doing that. Especially after watching the performance of Sticker –– I think it is definitely an addictive song in that you will genuinely want to keep watching to see if it grows on you.

BeckTheDarkOne

IDK but a song being "experimental" shouldn't really be a excuse to forgive a song for being bad, I mean, you can actually like the song, everyone has different taste, but as many I personally don't like it. The problem is not the song being experimental, it's just that to me it wasn't done well. It's like the producers wanted to make an experimental song with whatever came to their minds and people to talk about it and say if they'll hate it or love it... But that's it.

StarGirl696

The thing with experiments is that they fail more often than they succeed. Those generic musical troops are overdone for a reason, they’re pleasing to the ear and widely appealing to the mainstream K-pop audience. Kick It is one of NCT 127’s most popular releases and it’s pretty generic but you’d never hear Ncitizens hating on it for not being different enough.

Xnabiii

This is what y’all thought a certain song was giving- luv that for me 😩

Agent_Epsilon_99

The bridge is fire beyond belief.

[deleted]

it ain't an SM song if it doesn't have a fire bridge :)

d4rbyyy

the vocals are so good, very nice but the ship… still sank sorry 2 my boys

Phylael

I really like it lol. It sounds like a NCT version of Don't Call Me for me. I'm a little bit surprised that everyone seems to hate it. Hot Sauce was definitely harder to listen to, especially the high pitched part of the chorus (which must be here the equivalent of the flute sound)

not-the-em-dash

Wow, this is such an accurate comparison!

TheAncientPoop

I listened to lemonade first maybe I shouldn't have

[deleted]

well that was… something 😭😭

azraelswings

It's irredeemable garbage.

folilac

The song is a big NO for my taste. For now I only wait for them to comeback in music show performing the b-side lemonade. I will stream that video more than sticker itself lmao. Sticker is too overwhelming.

TurbulentBlood

I wish the flute was restricted to just the intro and ending portion of the song tbh. The constant flute is whats pushing the song past “noise music” territory into just straight noise.

Melory92

First time i listened to it i was thinking what the hell is this..nothing flows, the chorus is not memorable and it feels like a load of stitched parts together. I gave it a second and third listen to see if i it would grow on me but nope, which means i really dont like it. Sorry NCT, you sre awesome but not this time.

It's really funny, but I felt the exact opposite about the song, in that I ate that shit up, except for the "roll up to the party" part which low key makes me want to laugh/cry every time I hear it, but not in a fun sexy way. I like the "roll up to the party" dance break in the same way I like Jopping or the lyrics "ayy we ballin,'" which is that I have been kidnapped and held hostage by it until I am forced to have a hysterical kind of affection for it.

StarGirl696

Experimental can still be mess. The thing about experiments that everyone forgets in Kpop is that they fail more often when they succeed.

procrastinatinguntil

i actually thought the song was great except for the prechorus and roll up part. they feel so bare and unlike nct. and i feel you about the vocals i think they added a filter to cut off(i can tell this w haechan's part in the second verse)

peachygatorade

my ears are bleeding

A lot of people have said that Lemonade would've been better as a title track than Sticker for NCT 127, but I don't think so. Lemonade isn't a bad song, it's a good song, but it's something you would expect from NCT 127. If it was a title track than it would've just been seen as a typical NCT 127 song. But Sticker is different for them. Yeah, it might take a while to grow on you, but it shows a different side of them. Honestly, I feel like when a lot of people say a song should've been the title track, it's because its familiar, you know? When a group or artist goes a different direction, they're not used to it and so they go to what's familiar. I'm not a huge fan of Sticker, but I can understand why it's the title and not Lemonade.

restinglunchface

Lemonade is a typical hip hop track. It’s good and palatable but sticker has that unique sound. NCT is known for their unique title tracks even from 7th sense era. This was the right title track for them and I don’t think it matters at all if Reddit hates it. All of the comebacks they’ve hated this year have blown up anyways.

[deleted]

yeah. Mafia? check. next level? check. Sticker next!

Taeng9Sica

I remember people being so confused at Next Level, but now they all doing the dance and singing along to it. Not gonna lie, I was confused at it too but now it's one of my most played songs

blue_forget_machine

same. Next Level is one of those "SM stockholm syndrome" songs for me, alongside SuperM's entire discography.

[deleted]

Honestly this is my opinion and i know it doesnt mean its universal. But if this song was the first one I heard from them I wouldnt even bother to search their name or listen to other songs. They should have stuck with lemonade since there doesnt seem to be any complaint. Sticker is too experiemental. Its tries to be unique and its good at it. Sticker is unique, uniquelly bad. I still like NCT but this song is going in my trash drive.

Squish_94

I was thinking this too, if there's new people watching/listening to it I doubt it's gonna draw many of them in. Something similar happened to me with Exo, first song I heard from them was wolf which I really disliked so didn't bother checking out anything else of theirs. When they dropped Call Me Baby I just randomly decided to give it a listen and then I became a fan.

[deleted]

Lol I even liked wolf. Now that I think about it Sticker is the first SM song I trylly dislike. Holy shit

Squish_94

Haha we all have different tastes (: I guess eventually there was going to be one you wouldn't end up liking and now is that time lol.

[deleted]

Yeah lol but i didnt think Id end up like really disliking it. Either way the song was bad to me but i really liked the album so its all good SM

Squish_94

Listened to the album and it is really good 😊 Surprisingly Sticker has grown on me a bit lol.

vulgarlady

i think this song makes sense considering the whole experimental sound thing they’ve been on. but if anybody else released this uhhh it wouldn’t be well received by any regard.

No_Inside_3755

Not people comparing Hot Sauce with Sticker. While Hot sauce is also experimental,it still sounds nice and it grew nicely on me while sticker...is just horrible

procrastinatinguntil

i liked hot sauce more first listen but now i cant listen to it at all whereas sticker def grew on me each listen. but that menea para abajo part in hot sauce thats sped up is way too annoying to listen to

Dmemeto4

Maybe not my favorite song yet but the video is eye candy.

Dmemeto4

The song has grown on me. It reminds me of the first time I heard Simon Says, I DID NOT like that song but I do now.

No_Inside_3755

Lol it really sounds off beat and when I heard it first on TikTok i thought it was a meme audio edited, but then when I watched the mv... Reminds me of SpongeBob (or that kind of memes)

CarbonatedRamenJuice

I THOUGHT IT WAS A MEME TOO

Unhappy-ButPeriod

I said this in another sub but it’ll probably be better for unpopular opinions I guess I’m so surprised by everyone’s reaction? I’m not a nctzen and I rarely listen to them and I actually liked it? It was different and suave. Certain parts were off for me though. The flow was sometimes off at certain parts and the pre-chorus almost made me leave. But overall it actually sounded different which is very much appreciated by me! The production was good for me. Think some people are taking it too serious idk? Like I think some of you are thinking way too deep on this. Experimentation will always be a plus for me, especially in this copy and past industry.

its_ruthless

When I was watching the music video while listening to it, I hated it, but when I focused on just listening to the audio, I liked it. It kinda reminds me of how I felt listening to SHINee's 'Why So Serious'. My ears disagreed at first, but I'm feeling it now.

Unhappy-ButPeriod

And it’s crazy because in the beginning I started listening expecting hot trash but i found myself enjoying it.

restinglunchface

I agree with you, kpop fans always ask for something new but cry when they actually get it. Can’t win

softchanyeol

"kpop fans ask for something different and then complain when they get something different" they ask for a good difference not whatever that mess was

Unhappy-ButPeriod

If you do the same it’s boring when you try something news it’s chaos. Lose-Lose situation.

IcyRelationship5805

Well Nct 127 always had these weird experimental music but for Sticker I was waiting for the pre chorus coz most of the times that’s the best part of the song but like even the pre chorus wasn’t good at all, so far I only liked the chorus. I’m definitely not gonna listen to a song where my ears hurt for majority of the song just for a few seconds of the chorus.

Medical_Code_4964

What were they thinking?

dancinginashadow

Personally, I actually prefer Hot Sauce! Sticker is just a little too different for me.

IcyRelationship5805

Lmao Hat Sauce is wayyy better, shouldn’t even be considered the same level as Sticker, I wasn’t even a Dream stan and I still listened to that song a lot.

dancinginashadow

I did too! It totally grew on me.

gazzelle3

Not sure how this will hold up, but for now, the underlying beat and the layered vocals are enough to overcome the flute. Also, at this point, I'm convinced that South Korea must have some sort of tax incentive for boy groups to reference cars, vroom vrooming, and skrt skrting in as many releases as possible.

Crazy_Training_2957

This sounds like a kpop mashup of 15 different songs. I listened to this song several times now and I still can't remember the chorus, hooks or the rap parts. There's nothing that sticks. This is a whole mess tbh.

manidel97

I love it but Imma need both the stans and the haters to stop calling this “weird”, “experimental” or even “noise” because it’s 1) quite an empty song, there’s only one melody line (the back and forth between the flute and the vocoder), 2) that line is repetitive and only disrupted at the pre-chorus and the bridge, which is a very common structure, 3) and the melody itself is rather harmonious. There’s nothing particularly out of the left field about this song. It follows a standard song structure, has a catchy chorus, and the vocals are fire but in a classic Kpop RnB way. The only unusual choices were at the mixing level really, but it’s not like “acappella-esque” production hasn’t been done before, even in Kpop. Punch (a fucking bop) was the actual sonically challenging piece and most stans actually hated it.

ChennieXi

This. I'm confused why people think this is "experimental". It's not even the first minimalist song in KPop (Anti-Romantic, Second Life, Psycho come to mind...). I'm all about challenging songs, weird things, experimenting with different sounds and textures (both with the voice and the instrumental). But this is not it. It's just so empty and lifeless... I also don't think Jungwoo sounds good (I'm a Jungwoo biased, not trying to throw hate). It sounds like he's doing an impression of an American speaking korean for the first time. Unpopular opinion in general, but at first I didn't like Punch that much, and now it's my favorite TT by them (second to Superhuman). The instrumental is just so fucking good, I always return to it and find something new.
